Does TM save File Vault files??

I mistakenly deleted an important file and am trying to restore it from my TM backup drive. The problem is that when im in TM, I cant access the archived 'desktop' where the file was stored. I also use file vault and it appears, when I open the backup drive, that TM has not backed up any files/folders held in file vault, including the file Im looking for. Is this likely to be the case? Does TM backup FV files?
(BTW, the only thing I have excluded from backup in TM preferences is the backup drive itself)
Thanks!

TM backs up file vault but ONLY when you are not logged into the filevault account. You have to log out of a filevault account and log into another one and then let TM back up. One of many a reason not to use filevault.

  • FAQ: When I apply edits to an image using Revel, does it save a new file or just the edits?

    Q. When I apply edits to an image using Revel, does it save a new file or just the edits?
    A. Revel cloud keeps a copy of your full resolution originals. Edits in  revel are non-destructive, so your original is always preserved (unedited). When you export photo (MAC) Save to Camera Roll (iOS), that's when Revel applies your edits. On iOS the preview is used. on MAC the full resolution of the original is used to generate the new edited photo.

    Thanks kumars ,
I have a specific drag and drop area on our website. This works fine for all earlier releases of Firefox after these security settings
"(1) Enter "about:config" in the URL field; (2) Right click and select New->Boolean; (3) Enter "signed.applets.codebase_principal_support" (without the quotes) as a new preference name; (4) Click OK and try loading the file again."
Bust these settings not work for me in Firefox 17.
Yes the drag and drop functionality is java script based and i am not using any script blocker addons.

  • Where does iWeb save the site file?

Sorry guys but this is a lazy man's question.
Where does iWeb save the site file when you click the save button?
Is it saved as a seperate file or is it hidden within the program?
I not talking about publishing it.

Yes there is...I'll refer you to Apple's own technote...
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303670
But you probably don't want to keep it on your iDisk. The file could be huge and the back and forth network bandwidth involved may make iWeb opens and saves unbearably slow. I've always recommended one of those cheap USB flash drives to keep a potable Domain file on.
Has this been "helpful" to you?

  • After Time Machine backs up my file vault files (after logging out), when I next log into the user account it beachballs permanently during log in.

After Time Machine backs up my file vault files (after logging out), when I next log into the user account it beachballs permanently during log in.  The backup was successful, as I had to restore after this issue last time.  Hard resetting doesn't resolve the issue.  Is there a Time Machine setting that I should be aware of?
I have 2011 13" MBP, 10.6.8 and use an external hard drive connected via USB for my Time Machine backups.
    Thanks

I was able to get it to work.  Thanks for your help.  It's unfortunate the two applications do not work well together.  This is what I did:
    1) Safe boot and logged into the affected user (since the whole issue damaged the account's system settings).
    2) Turned off File Vault in System Preferences. I needed to make some space on the hard drive first since apparently the total free space on the hard drive has to equal or exceed the amount of data currently in the file vault.  I deleted some files and moved others to the Admin account.  This whole process took awhile.
    3) Finally, just restarted and logged in.  The next time machine backup seems to be a significant backup, I assume because it's backing up the user account in a different way now that File Vault is turned off.
    Thanks again!

  • Image Capture does not save a scanned file

Image Capture using an HP Photosmart C3180 to scan a document does so but does not save the file to the Desktop.
A pop-up windows displays Scan Results but still not file
    O/S Lion, Image Capture Version 6.1 (440).
Used to work, what is the deal?

As for the scanner - so is this new one wireless? When I hooked up my Epson All-in-One, I had to install it via USB first before I could install the wireless (per their instructions).  With Snow Leopard, I simply installed the driver and it covered and recognized both the print and scan function - not so in Lion; I had to go through hoops with the scanner part and it finally showed up as a separate unit. I thought that is silly, but - as long as it works.....  I'm trying to think of possibilities since I'm about out of ideas, so you might want to consider that (if it applies). The other troubleshooting suggestions usually include redoing the "add" function after a reboot.
As for Image Capture, I am out of ideas. FWIW, I never use it - in my workflow, there is no need for it. Not sure if this would have an impact, but make sure that you choose Image Capture in the CDs&DVDs Preference Pane (mine is set to ignore or ask purposely):
If that does not work, I'd suggest reinstalling the OS over the top of what you have.

  • Why BRBACKUP cmd does not save SAP control files?

    Hello!
We experience some issues running BRBACKUP utility to save SAP's data objects.
When we run the BRBACKUP cmd, we see that all tablespaces and configurations files
are save, but BRBACKUP cmd does not save control files. Why, we don't know?
BRBACKUP run throught AIX crontab and it looks like this ...
    brbackup -u system/disapinst01 -c -m full -t online
the init<SID>.ora file looks good, we can see that the *.control_files entry is OK.
    *.control_files='/oracle/<SID>/origlogA/cntrl/cntrlDDI.dbf',
                    '/oracle/<SID>/origlogB/cntrl/cntrlDDI.dbf',

    - SW: Plataform IBM AIX V5.3.0.0 ML 5300-05

    Somebody help us, please!

brbackup copies one controlfile to /oracle/PRD/sapbackup and then backs up this copy.
look for a similar message in your log:

  • InDesign does not save - generates new file

While working with a 6 person workgroup, using InDesign and InCopy across a network.
I am in InDesign CS 6 on a Mac, the rest of the team in InCopy CS 6 on PC's.
The problem I am encountering is intermittent and happens when the group is very active, crunching on a tight pub deadline.
Some times I am able to save the InDesign file properly, it saves over the latest version in the proper place without prompting.
At other times it does not allow me to save properly and forces a "Save As" scenario, which of course wreaks havoc with the links.
We are working over a network that also creates scenarios where a file in PowerPoint sometimes pops up inadvertently and intermittently as "read only"
I can only describe this as a kind of intermittent "lag" in the network.
    Any thoughts?

A save as, over the current file should not cause any problems at all
and in fact is pretty good practice.
If you can't save over it, are you getting an error message?

  • Does ACR save JPEG & TIFF files like RAW files are saved?

I know ACR saves RAW file edits to side-car files, not permanently changing the original file. Does ACR do the same for JPEG and TIFF files when they are opened, edited and saved? Thanks.

I wonder if Kelby could have been confused by the fact that the metadata describing the Camera Raw settings is being stored back into the JPEG file.  The key is that the JPEG file is indeed re-written, but the actual image data is not changed.
Here's an experiment you can try for yourself:
    1.  Start Photoshop, and choose File - Open As...
    2.  Change the type to Camera Raw, and choose a JPEG file that you have on your disk, and press [Open].
    3.  When Camera Raw comes up, push the Exposure control all the way to -4.00 EV and press [Open Image].
    4.  Note that it's very dark, as expected.
    5.  Close the document, do not save.
    6.  Note that the JPEG file has been updated on your disk by seeing that its date and time are current.
    7.  Choose File - Open As... again and open the same JPEG file.
    8.  Note that the Exposure control is set again to -4.00 EV and the preview is very dark.
    9.  [Cancel] the Camera Raw dialog.
    10.  Open the same JPEG file from Windows Explorer using the Windows Photo Viewer.  Note that it is NOT dark.  The original JPEG data is still intact, as bright as it ever was.

  • "Backup" does not save a Json file nor does one automatically create when I start up firefox (bookmarkbackups)

    Hello,
I've successfully saved my bookmarks and browsing history in the past.
Transfering them from an old hard drive to a new hard drive.
I was trying "Backup" my bookmarks, but after choosing a location to "backup," firefox freezes for a few seconds but no json file is created.
Also, when I look up the "boomarkbackups" folder, the last saved file was sometime in June.
    Can someone help me?
Thanks so much for your time and help.
    Cheers,
    KevinH

    FredMcD,
Thanks so much for your help thus far!
Thanks for the addon I backed up using FEBE, But I don't see JSON files
    Session store, places.sqlite,
    Bookmars-2014-04-15_76972.json (for example)
Are they all actually backed up? I Performed a back up and all I got was the following:
(See image - and is this all normal, is it missing anything? Can this negate fixing places.sqlite?)
    Cor-el,
    Also, thank you for helping!
I turned off firefox and rebooted computer as instructed if the link you sent. Couldn't not back up and no auto backup.
Is there a danger of loosing my bookmarks using this (as described in the link you sent):
    https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/places-maintenance/
The rebuild section in the post (Rebuild Places database)
warns of loosing your bookmarks. So should I try the following first? :
    https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/places-maintenance/
Thanks both of you for your help and time. My bookmarks are like my library. They are very special to me.
    Cheers,
    Kevin H.

  • Where does iWeb save local .html files?

The answer that keeps coming up is "domain". I see all my images, music, what-have-you, but not the actual html files. Are they there somewhere and I just missed them? I need to find them so I can upload single pages and the entire site every time I publish. I do not use .mac as my server, if that happens to make a difference.

iWeb doesn't make any html files until your either upload to .Mac or Publish to a folder.
The html files will be moved to your iDisk or found in that new folder.

  • Where does iMovie save the movie file?

I have imported my video and I want to get to the folder without opening iMovie. Which folder does iMovie put the raw footage into?
    Thanks,
    Brian

    Brian,
You also need to know that when you see your iMovie project inside the HD Movie folder, you can't simply double-click the project icon and see all of your assets. You need to hold the Apple button while single-clicking on the icon, then choose "Show Assets" to see your media, the QT reference movie, etc.

  • Time Machine 10.5.3 can now recover individual File Vault files?!

I don't know when this happened, but it appears that I can now recover individual files from a FV protected account using TM in Leopard 10.5.3. It works just like it does with an unprotected account;choose a folder, click in the dock, zoomy UI.
What's more, while logged into a FV protected account, I can chose BackUp Now... and it does just that. The only difference is that when I log off of a FV protected account, a backup is performed, which makes sense since individual files cannot be backed up once the FV protected account is logged off.
Am I right? This was such a big user issue I am surprised Apple didn't make a bigger issue about announcing it.

Neither OS X nor QuickTime natively allows the playback of .flv content. However, adding Perian to your system

playback. I imagine that at some point in the past, you must have installed Perian on your MBP but not on your Mac Pro.

I disagree. You are doing a major operating system upgrade. That changes all the base OS files, including the file vault files.
I would think it foolish to do that type of upgrade with File Vault enabled.
But we will find out as many will do the upgrade with File Vault enabled and if they have problems they will surely post about it.
