  • Does the Iphone 3G support music playback via a bluetooth headset?

    Hi All,
Does the Iphine 3g support music playback via a bluetooth headset at all, I suspect not...

It's been on many a user's requested feature list since the first iPhone, and people were disappointed when it didn't show up on the 3G. The adaptor he links to will get the job done.
I have to admit I've demoed a couple of bluetooth stereo headsets, and the music sounded awful. Perhaps it's improved, but for this reason it's not a feature I've personally wished was included.

  • Does Intelligent Management Center Support UPS's?

My IT department is getting Intelligent Management Center to replace some monitoring in SolarWinds. I want to know if Intelligent Management Center supports UPS's and what brands?

How big is your network, and how much money do you have to spend?
I've most recently been working on data-center sized networks, and they tend to be covered by large, center-wide UPS's with generator backup - the UPS and associated rectifiers isolate the protected kit from any chance of surges, so they're not needed on a rack-by-rack basis.
That's not a viable option for a smaller network or client base, so you sometimes need to think outside the box - one place I'm working on has two racks, one large UPS in the bottom of one rack and a PDU for each rack running the essential hardware (switches, servers, not monitors or non essential stuff) running off the one UPS.
There's no one size fits all solution - if you have widely distributed network closets/racks and don't want to put a UPS in each rack, your best bet might be getting switches with redundant power supplies and ensuring each supply runs off a separate electrical phase - since a lot of power outages only affect one phase at a time, you can often survive brief otuages on the secondary supply until the primary is restored.

  • Previewing dts via optical out

I'm using DTS streams in DVD studio pro 4 (.cpt files). Although the manual says it can be previewed through the optical out on a G5 with an external DTS encoder, the DTS-stream can't be previewed, it simply doesn't work. (ac3 files are previewed ok in this way). (and by the way, after building a project the apple dvd-player does play the DTS through the same optical out.)
so how can I preview DTS in dvd-studio pro 4 with the optical out on a G5?
    Geert

To listen to more than the default 2 channel output of a G5 you will need a PCI soundcard such as the M-Audio Revolution 5.1 (or some other more expensive PCI card or Firwire option) which provides 6 discrete analogue outputs from FCP and other mutlitrack sound editing applications (not, at the moment, from Soundtrack Pro).
The optical output only passes encoded streams of DTS and Dolby Digital as well as two channel audio.
DVD player and DVD Studio Pro 4.0 can pass encoded streams to the optical output.

  • Does Toshiba portege t130 supports 64 bit windows OS??

I have a Toshiba portege t130 laptop..it had 32 bit windows 7home premium os...I have formatted it with the 64 bit OS..now it starts hanging a lot...does it really support the 64 bit OS??

Unless your RAM exceeds 4 GB, there is nothing to gain by installing 64-bit Windows.
But there are lots of things to lose with 64-bit Windows. It cannot run any 16-bit applications. That includes all DOS applications. It cannot even install 32-bit applications that have 16-bit installation packages.
In order to run 32-bit programs, 64-bit Windows needs to emulate the 32-bit environment and run the programs there. So it runs most everything slower - not faster. Usually, you won't notice the slow down. See KB906892 for an extreme example. Eventually, there will be 64-bit applications. But for now they are rare.
Many older peripherals have only 32-bit drivers.

  • Does standalone OC4J 9i support transaction suspend via TransactionManager?

    Hi,
I know (did not try that though) that OC4J 10.1.3 standalone supports transaction suspend/resume using TransactionManager interface. Does OC4J 9i support that as well?
    Many thanks,
    Sale

    Mahmoud,
The error message, you have posted, seems very clear -- the only valid values are READ_COMMITTED and SERIALIZABLE. This is also documented in the "Oracle9i JDBC Developer’s Guide and Reference", chapter 19 [Coding Tips and Troubleshooting], in the section entitled "Transaction Isolation Levels and Access Modes". Here is an excerpt:
the Oracle server supports only the TRANSACTION_READ_
COMMITTED and TRANSACTION_SERIALIZABLE transaction isolation levels
As someone who moved from Oracle to Informix, I can tell you from my experience, that different RDBMS's have the same functions, but each works differently. So while you probably needed to use the TRANSACTION_READ_UNCOMMITTED isolation level with "SQL Server", you don't need it for Oracle.
What you need to do is forget how you do things with "SQL Server", and learn how to do things the Oracle way. As you have seen, trying to transfer "SQL Server" code to Oracle doesn't always work.
The Oracle documentation is available from

    Good Luck,
    Avi.

  • No Audio in Safari after DVD-Playback via "optical out"

    Hi,
i'm using an optical cable to connect my Mac Mini to a hifi receiver. Audio works great in Safari & Firefox and so on, even digital out (dts, Dolby Digital) is working with Mac DVD-player.
But after DVD-playback the audio doesn't work anymore in Safari & Firefox. I have to completely quit Safari or Firefox and reopen to get audio back (e.g. Youtube or Apple Quicktime Videos).
    How can i fix this?

    I have the same problem.
Apparently, the "Digital Out" channel cannot be shared by multiple running applications, the first one starting takes it and keeps it. You have to stop it to allow an other (single) application to use it instead.
To me it is a bug : the front most application should take the Digital Out channel, and release it when an other one becomes front most, but this bug has apparently being going on for a long time, and Apple does not seem interested in its correction.

  • Does anyone know the sound card specs (USB/Optical out) for the Macbook Pro 15 Retina?

I have looked everywhere and have just given up. The "technical specs" aren't very technical at all. Anyway, I have mine hooked up to a Cinema display, so the Thunderbolt and one USB are used on the left hand side. That leaves just one USB for 3 printers, one scanner, my Griffin PowerMate and my DAC. So I was wondering if using the Optical (Toslink Mini) out in the headphone jack might be a plan if I can find a DAc that deosn't need the USB for power AND if the optical out is 24/192.
I am just starting to set the laptop up as a replacement for my Mac Pro Desktop so wondering what to do here.
    Thanks!

I've just started to look into an issue I'm having with my DAC and my new iMac. There are some serious issues with using a DAC with USB3.0, so you may not even be able to use your DAC on your USB port. I'm getting a lot of popping noises when going through my USB 3.0 ports. I've had some success my hooking my DAC up to a UDSB hub (which is USB2). Problem there becomes power supply issue, whereas the problem with USB3 is data transfer.

  • Does the new airport extreme support backing up via time machine to an external hard drive pluged into the usb port

Does the new airport extreme support backing up via time machine to an external hard drive pluged into the usb port

Yes, but you might want to note that the port on the AirPort Extreme is only USB 2.0, and that it runs at about half the speed of the USB 2.0 port on a computer, so things are going to be quite SLOW as far as backups are concerned, or anything else for that matter.

  • Does the built-in DAC on my 2007 mid yr iMac support 96/24 audio as it supplies signal to the headphone jack? (is there a reason to export audio via optical jack then to an external DAC?

does the built-in DAC on my 2007 mid yr iMac support 96/24 audio as it supplies signal to the headphone jack?  If so, is there a reason to export audio via optical jack then to an external DAC then to stereo?

My suggestion to work around this problem would be to hook up an Airport Express. The AE also has an optical out the same as your iMac. As long as your wireless connection is robust enough you should be able to stream from your iMac to your AE and then have the optical cable connect between your AE and your DAC, which then connects to your Integrated Amp/Receiver/Pre-Amp (depending on your system configuration).
I assume because you are using the optical out and connecting to an external DAC that you are looking for a high level of Audio quality ?

  • MultiMedia Center for Think Offerings install issues with Vista

    Hello,
I recently upgraded my ThinkPad Z60m to Vista by doing a clean install from disk.  Since this process involves manually installing each of the ThinkPad utilities manually (no pre-built image for Vista, only XP), I have ran into some issues with the installer for the MultiMedia Center for Think Offerings.
According to the Support & Download page, there are two downloads available for the Z60m and both have issues (or errors) that are preventing me from installing the application.  Below are the two products and reasons for not installing:
"MultiMedia Center for Think Offerings for Windows XP and 2000"
Problem: Does not install on Vista
Error message: "Could not open \device\physicalmemory"
"MultiMedia Center for Think Offerings for Windows Vista"
Problem: ThinkPad Z60m is not a supported
Error message: "This program is not for machine type 2529EAU"
What I am looking for is an installation of MultiMedia Center for Think Offerings that supports users who have upgraded from XP to Vista (or downgrade depending on your feelings of Vista  ).  I have not found anywhere saying that upgrades from XP to Vista are not supported, so I should expect that software updates should be available for ThinkPad products on either platform.
Thanks in advance for your help.

I recently did a clean install of Win7 Ult on my X61 7676A24, and this is the only Lenovo software that I could not find a Win 7 solution for. However,
    1. I was able to load WinDVD8 upgrade (from Lenovo's Win7 information page) after first loading the WinDVD5 version that was the last good release for Vista.
    2. The Multimedia Center for Think Offerings is basically Roxio's suite for writing cd/dvd's, drag to disc and so on.
Since I could not load this anyway, I was forced to try out Win7's inbuilt cd/dvd writing - it works perfectly well.  Even better, Win7 natively supports an excellent ISO burning tool. So, I think if you explore these inbuilt tools, you can probably live without the Mul Cent for Think Off.
