Does turning off iCloud backup affect my photostream, contacts, and calendar wireless syncing?

I keep getting the announcement that my icloud storage is almost full, so I checked into managing my storage. If I turn off the "Storage and Backup" on the bottom, will that affect my contacts, calendars, reminders, and photostream wireless syncing? I don't want to pay to get more icloud storage.

No, that just means it will no longer backup your device to iCloud.
More than likely it's the amount of photos and videos in your camera roll taking up all that space, hence why your storage is almost full. You can manually backup these photos and videos to your computer and then turn off the backup for just the camera roll (you'll see this option under Settings, iCloud, Storage & Backup, "This iPhone" or device you have, and then you can toggle Camera Roll on/off, where it also tells you how big the camera roll is) and still continue to backup the rest of the device (Settings, apps, wallpaper, etc) to iCloud. Or just turn the whole option off and backup to iTunes instead.

  • Does turning off iCloud backup delete backup

I am thinking of making a monthly backup of my devices in iCloud as I still prefer (sorry) to use iTunes on my PC. The idea is to have the previous  months backup available in iCloud should any problem occur.
If I backup to iCloud and then revert to backing up using itunes on my PC between iCloud backups does this delete the iCloud backup after a certain time period?
    Thanks

    Hello antdude,
turning off iCloud  wouldn't affect any of your locally stored documents. Just turn the feature off by opening System Preferences > iCloud.
Oh OK. The message was confusing me: http://i.imgur.com/kZOu5zr.png ... It sounded like disabling iCloud would delete my Mac's local copies.

  • Can I turn off iCloud backup and keep my old backup?

Basically I am sick of being asked for money for more storage space. I cannot seem to get my iPhone backup under the 5gb free space, so the only option I see is to turn off iCloud backup. Can I do this without deleting the old (original) backup?

No.  When you turn it off it removes your existing backup.  You'll have to back up to your computer using iTunes (after turning off iCloud backup it will automatically back up when you sync).

  • How can i recover my photos if i restored my phone but turned off icloud backup?

how can i recover my photos if i restored my phone but turned off icloud backup?

Do you have any backup at all for your device? If you do, then you can restore from that backup and get any photos that were on it. If you have imported your photos to your computer, you can sync them back to your device via an iTunes sync. If you had Photo Stream turned on, you can recover your Photo Stream for the last 30 days or 1000 photos on that Photo Stream (whichever comes first) by signing onto the iCloud account that the Photo Stream was turned on for.

When you switch to iTunes backups, the device will start to make any further backups to iTunes on your computer. It will only do this when it is connected to iTunes and a power source. (If it is set to sync/backup wirelessly, it will only do so when it is connected to a Wi-Fi network)
When you switch back to iCloud backups, it will basically resume where it left off and start to back up once again to iCloud. There is no moving of backup files between iTunes and the cloud when you switch between backup options.

  • The last update turned on iCloud. How do I get my calendar to sync with outlook now?

The last update turned on iCloud. How do I get my calendar to sync with outlook now?

iCloud wasn't on, I accepted iTunes offer to upgrade to 6.1.1.
Next time I went to sync through iTunes, iCloud was on.
Your advice appears to have solved my problem...for now.
    Thank you.
Historically, the upgrade to 6.0 lost all of my contacts.
A manual restore brought them back.
Tech support said "Oh, that happens sometimes, you have to back up before upgrades", fortunately I do.
Again, thank you for the help.

    Thank you.

So you have business contacts that were lost... do you not have these on a Database in some shape or form? Sounds like you need to invest in a RAID1 backup setup for your computer so you dont have this issue in the future.
As for repairing your problem, sounds like you are going to need to start from scratch at this point or if the data is still on your phone look into a program that can take the information from the phone onto iTunes.

  • Does Office365 EWS provides Push Notification service for Contacts and Calendar Events?

Even though there are REST API's for performing PUSH and PULL operations for Office365(online), I am still looking the old EWS approach where in I want to subscribe for PUSH notification service for Contacts, Calendars and Mail Boxes.
Can any one suggest if there is a way to achieve this.

  • Effect of turning off  iCloud Backup

I'm preparing to update to iOS 7 on iPhone. I'm backed up on iCloud. When I turn iCloud Backup OFF (at Settings > iCloud > Storage & Backup > [Backup] iCloud Backup) am I correct in assuming that only disconnects my device from iCloud? In other words, it doesn't delete or otherwise alter the backup data maintained in my iCloud account for that device?

It does not disconnect your device from iCloud. It simply means it will not back up to iCloud. Anything turned on in the iCloud settings (Settings > iCloud) will all continue to sync.

  • Does changing my Icloud account mean losing my contacts and pictures?

I am trying to sperate my iphone from my ipad. I have created a new apple account to keep my messages, text, and emails from going to my ipad, however I haven't deleted my old icloud account from my iphone yet, beacuse I don't want to lose my contacts and pictures. Any advice would be helpful at this point!

If you want to migrate your phone to a new iCloud account along with a copy of the iCloud data, start by saving any photo stream photos that you want to keep to your camera roll (unless already there) by opening your my photo stream album, tapping Select, tapping the photos, tap the share icon (box with upward facing arrow), then tapping Save to Camera Roll.  If you are syncing notes with iCloud that you want to keep, you'll need to open each of your notes and email them to yourself so you can later copy and paste the text into new notes created in your new account.  Then go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account (which only deletes it from this device, not from iCloud), provide the password to turn off Find My iPhone and choose Keep on My iPhone when prompted.  Then sign back in with a different Apple ID to create your new account and choose Merge to upload your data.

  • My computer crashed and i lost most of my data. thanks to icloud i still had my contacts and calendar.

good morning. my hard drive crashed a couple of weeks ago. I had my contacts on Icloud. Once i was up and running I transferred the contacts from icloud to outlook.
now I have NO contacts at icloud and as a result lot all on my phone and ipad.
Help.I have tried to copy back, I restored my phone to earlier backup and nothing????
any suggestions i am lost without this information. It appears on my PC but NOT on phone or Ipad

That doesn't answer my question, do you know how to use Outlook? if yes please tell me which account these contacts are in.
    If No
You do that by looking in the left sidebar, finding the contacts and then reading the group they are in. Personal Folders or Exchange or iCloud. Take a screenshot and post it.

  • Updated my iMac to mountain lion, had iCloud problems so I turned off iCloud. Then my software updates stopped coming through.  Turned iCloud back on but still not getting updates even when checking manually.  Help   Greg0954

I updated my imac to osx mountain lion.  Had trouble with icloud affecting my itunes so I turned off iclouds.
Then my automatic software updates stopped coming through.  Even when I check for them manually by
clicking on software update it acts like it's checking for about one second then says "no updates available".
It's been months since I've got any updates,  used to get them every week or two.
Could turning off icloud have affected the necessary contacts ?  Please help,
                                                         Greg0954

I think all these problems are related, but might try this fo SWUPD...
If you check for software updates using the App Store in OS X 10.8 and get "NSURLErrorDomain error -1100" the problem may be with your Software Update preferences. This is particularly likely if you were using a custom Apple Software Update server. To solve the problem, quit the App Store, move the following two files (if present) to the trash, restart, and only then rerun App Store updates:
    /Library/Preferences/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.plist
    /Library/Preferences/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.plist.lockfile

  • Restoring from iCloud - when can I turn off iCloud from old phone?

Hi - I upgraded from 4S to 6 and I'm restoring from iCloud backup - it's taking a while to download all the apps and photos as I expected.  While it's downloading/restoring from iCloud can I turn off iCloud service from the old 4S or do I have to wait until it's complete on the 6?

No.  When you turn it off it removes your existing backup.  You'll have to back up to your computer using iTunes (after turning off iCloud backup it will automatically back up when you sync).
