Does turning off wireless feature inactivate the firewall?
My goal is to insert a hardware firewall between my modem and PPC Mac computer, and accordingly, plan to use the Apple Airport Extreme (AE) base station router for this purpose. Since I don't really need the wireless feature at this time, I plan to turn off Wi-fi on AE. Will doing so also turn off or diminish the WPA/WPA2 & WEP security firewall features of AE, or will they still work as expected with my wired internet connection?
Wireless security is not really referred to as a "firewall" in the strict sense of the word. Wireless security, or encryption, is used on your "local" network to prevent unauthorized computers from connecting to your local network.
A firewall is special software that protects all devices on your local network from devices on the Internet. The AirPort Extreme uses a very effective NAT firewall.
If you have the AirPort Extreme connected to a simple modem, the NAT firewall is automatically enabled.

Go to Solution.Well you can do one of 2 things:
Go into the database (Calendar, Address Book, etc), hit the menu button, choose Options. From there you can turn the Wireless Synchronization Off. You can leave the settings to Off for each database that you want to synchronize with.
You can follow these steps to remove the IT policy from your phone. This will remove any polices that may still be in effect on your device when it was connected to your company's BES. As i turned on my iphone 4s on and connected to a wireless internet a page opened from the app firewall ip and i usually choose all connections. so it got stuck i held the standy by button but it won't turn off. so i held the standyby and home buttons. when it opened all apps music and pics where not there. why? then i enterted photos and the loading logo appeared then the standyby appeared and i entered my password and everything in my iphone was there but thing were scattered and apps wheren't in folders everything was messed up but no photos or music AND IT SAYS UP IN THE MIDDLE OF THE SCREEN EXIT SAFE MODE. so i restarted it again and it opened and nothing was there and again i entered photos and the samething happen again. why did this happen? and can i get my data back? and in the usage it says that these thing are there but not showing.

The Find my iPhone service option is given to you when you first set up the device. If you just reset it, you may have been given that option. So, in other words, the service may have been enabled even if you didn't realize it. You can then go to www.icloud.com and click on Find my iPhone, and have it play a sound. Unlike Compukid said, Apple will not assist in locating a lost device without the Find my iPhone service.

Every cut I make in the sequence window leaves one remaining frame from its deleted neighbor clip. How do I turn off this feature - It is driving me mad.
Here are 3 pictures detailing what I'm experiencing.
Picture 1; clip 1 tail frame.
Picture 2; clip 2 head frame.
Picture 3; clip 2 head frame is now tail frame of clip 1.
does this help describe what is happening? Basically every cut I make
leaves an unwanted frame as a ghost of the missing cut.

What are you talking about? There is no "compatibility feature" on the iPhone, and .exe files won't run on the phone.
Please slow down and explain exactly what you're trying to do and what happens when you try. -

How can I turn off this "feature" and have the power button bring me the shut down / restart / sleep dialog by default again?
With the position of the power button on the Retina MacBooks, any mistake turns off the screen in the middle of a presentation or any activity using a projector or big screen — a huge waste of time to wake up the display, enter password, have the projector sync back, watch audience disconnecting from what was being discussed, etc.
This is very annoying, and seems to add to the increasing collection of options Apple decided to make by itself instead of allowing the user to choose.
Come on Apple guys, I'm using my Mac because I want options and lots of preferences to tweak to my needs.
If I needed the lobotomized version I'd be using my iPad!
Any way (official or hack) to change this button back to its proper funcionality?

Does turning off energy saver include never letting the display to sleep? A warning alerts me that its life might shorten... Thanks!
(I'm doing this for the recalibrating of the battery etc...)It would shorten it's life if you leave it on year 'round. For the amount of time to calibrate the battery won't hurt it.

I have been trying to turn off wireless synchronization in my black berry ever since I got it.
When I go to the helpsection in my Blackberry Desktop Software program, it says
1. On you blackberry device, in the calendar application, Contacts application, Tasks application, or Memopad, press the Menu key > Options.
2. If necessary, click a calendar or contact list.
3. Change the wierless synchroization field to NO or clear the wierless synchronization check box.
4. Press the menu key > save.
NONE OF THAT EXIST ON MY BLACKBERRY!
I mean have all the applications but there are NO wireless synchronization check box.
There is NO wierless synchroization field! I can’t find any place where it says wireless synchronization on my blackberry. I can’t synchronize my calendar at all.
This is really horrible, what kind of stupid instructions does blackberry give out?
Has anyone come across this problem and is there a fix for it?

I have a BlackBerry Curve 9330 (v6.0.0.524, Platform 4.4.0.438). After installing the desktop manager software and attempting to synch my device with my pc, I received a notification that I must first turn off the wireless synchronization option on my BlackBerry. Okay, cool. But how?
Evidently with a headache. I tried following the directions from Research in Motion. I tried reading the user manual. I tried searching the web. I tried calling BlackBerry's customer service line to get a refund on the past two hours of my life I just wasted. But all of these attempts were in vain. You know why?
Because there is no "Wireless Synchronization" field, that's why.
I don't know how a company manages to give its customers false instructions or no instructions at all. I also don't know how I managed to waste yet another hour of my life on my BlackBerry. But after playing around with my phone, I figured it out. And now I will share with you lovely people!
So, assuming you already set up an e-mail account to be used with your phone, here's how to wirelessly synch your Blackberry Curve 9330 with Blackberry's desktop software:
Go to Messages on your phone. You can get there by either clicking the yellow envelope icon on the top of your screen or going into your apps and then clicking on the envelope icon.
Once you're there, scroll to the top and click on the date.
Click on Full Menu.
Go to Email Account Management (above Spell Check).
Click on your e-mail address.
Click on Edit.
Scroll down to the bottom and you will see Synchronization Options. Open it up and uncheck Contacts and Deleted items.
Save.
Viola! After following these steps, I could *finally* sync my BlackBerry with the desktop manager. Hope this helps! -
"Turning Off" Wireless Capabilities
I just installed a wireless network built around the WRT54G2 wireless router. Everything is working fine but I have a question. My primary computer is connected to the router by ethernet cable, so I use the wireless connection capabilities only about 10% of my computing time. I thought I recalled using an earlier model Linksys wireless router at a previous workplace that had a switch which permitted the user to "turn on" or "turn off" wireless connection capabilities. I don't see anything similar on this router. Is there a simple method for disabling wireless connection capabilities, while still keeping the router enabled for my ethernet cable connection? Thanks for the feedback.
Turning off the SSID broadcast does not disable the wireless radio! The radio will still be active. It will still send regularly send out its beacon. It just does not include the SSID in its beacon anymore.
This means: anyone in your proximity (with the right software which is freely available in the internet) is still able to detect that there is a active wireless router even though the name of the network is unknown at first.
However, any wireless communication always includes the SSID of the network. This is always in the unencrypted part of the transmission even if you have wireless security enabled. This means also that anyone in your proximity is able to capture the wireless packets exchanged. A single packet is enough to learn the name of your wireless network.
Once you know the SSID you can try to connect to the wireless router even if it has the SSID broadcast turned off. If you have no or only weak wireless security in place it is easily possible to break into your network through the wireless.
Therefore: unless you have WPA2 or WPA with a strong passphrase set up the SSID broadcast won't really protect your network from access. With WPA2 or WPA enabled turning off the SSID broadcast has little benefits if any. The disabled broadcast causes connection issues with some devices, though.
You can turn off the wireless radio by manually modifying the wireless settings. Change the option for the "Wireless Network Mode" usually set on "Mixed" to "Off". This will power down the wireless radio in the router. This will really turn off the wireless capabilities of the router. -
I cannot change song order on playlists (old or new) with highlight and drag. I have turned off shuffle and highlighted the far left column (up/down arrow) of playlist. My mac pro is running 10.5.8 and am using itunes 10.4. I can't drag and drop "music" to "playlist" but can right click and get the option to "add to playlist." No such option for moving song within playlist, only the up and down arrow which moves song from top to bottom list, so if it is #4 from top it will move to #4 from bottom. Stupid I know. I spent over an hour with Apple support, reinstalled itunes, restarted and rebooted computer. Networked with my laptop which is running 10.6.8 and itunes 10.4 and it can drag and drop. The final Apple support solution was to reinstall my operating system. I would prefer not to. Any other ideas?
After looking at other people's posts, I think it's official: there is a bug. Itunes support said I should not have lost the drag/drop tool and I haven't on the laptop that is running itunes 10.4 and operating system 10.6.8. I chatted with someboby who lost both his drag/drop and side scroll and what we have in common is a wacom tablet for a mouse. My laptop is a wireless mouse. I reinstalled whatever updated driver that wacom has out there, shut the system down for night, hoping for magic, but alas none to be had. So if I want to change song order, I network the laptop and desktop, share the screen on the laptop, drag and drop to my heart's content and curse Apple for making me work this hard to find the tool that was once at my fingertips. Apple also let me know that if I want to share songs in household that the hundreds on songs that were purchased for .99 need to be repurchased for another .30. Maybe Apple is holding my drag/drop tool captive til I pay up the money or Maybe the next update will fix the problem, I for one give up for now.

How can I turn off background features in Premiere Elements 8?
There are two features that run in the background while you're working in Premiere Elements 8 which, while useful, can interfere with your other work. So, if you find your computer running sluggishly, you may want to try disabling them.
Background Rendering renders all non-DV footage or footage to which effects or transitions have been applied on your timeline automatically. (Clips which appear on the timeline with a red line above them need to be rendered in order to show at full quality.) To turn off this feature, go to Edit/Preferences and uncheck the Background Rendering option.
To manually render your video, press Enter. The red lines above your clips will turn green when rendering is complete.
The Organizer also runs a background feature called the Auto Analyzer. To disable it, go to the Organizer's Edit/Preferences and select the Auto Analyzer page. Uncheck this option.
Note that the Auto Analyzer creates Smart Tags, which are necessary in order for the program to Auto Enhance your clips. If you turn off the Auto Analyzer, then, you will also disable the Auto Enhance feature.
Finally, as an added tweak, go to Premiere Elements' Edit/Preferences and set Timeline Scrolling to Page Scroll. The default setting (Smooth Scrolling) continually moves the timeline as your video plays, wasting unnecessary resources.That is not standard behavior. You may have installed an extension that causes it.
Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
* Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
