Does Updating Your iPod Erase Your Music?

If I update my iPod with the newest software, will the update erase the music on my iPod?
Please let me know!
Thanks!

There's no reason that updating should erase your music, personally any firmware update I've done has gone smoothly. However you should always keep a aback up of your music in case of problems with your computer so if anything ever happens to your iPod you can reload it and/or iTunes.

  • Downloading music from your ipod to your itunes library

does anyone know if you can download music you have on your ipod to your itunes library

Open iTunes and select edit/preferences/advanced/general. Put a check mark in the box marked "copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library" and also "keep iTunes music folder organized", then click 'ok'.
Connect the iPod whilst holding down the shift/ctrl keys to prevent any auto sync, and if you see the dialogue window asking if you want to sync to this itunes library, click 'no'.
Then go to file/add folder, open 'my computer', select your iPod and click 'ok'.
The music files should transfer to your iTunes.
However it appears that no playlists or any other info such as ratings/last played etc will transfer.
If this is important to you, you may want to use other options.
There's Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music and playlists etc from iPod to iTunes.

I am trying to transfer some music files from my iPod on to my hard drive. I have tried dragging them on to the hard drive and I went through all the options and configurations and yet I can't seem to figure it out.
Can someone please help me out and tell me how to get music from my iPod on to my computer hard drive?
    Thanks,

You cant drag your music from your ipod to your computer, you have to use a third-party program to do it. There are many you can use, so try searching it on google. Some i can rememeber are yamipod, and copyipod.

  • How do you get your songs from your ipod to your computer?

can anyone tell me how to get your songs from your ipod to your computer?

Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
Other free programs are Pod Player, SharePod and Floola.
If it's a Mac, try Senuti or Music Rescue.

  • Syncing your ipod with your computer that has your iphone already on it

Can you sync your ipod with your new computer that your iphone is already on if you have had the ipod for a long time and had a different computer at the time

    - Connect the iPod to the computer and transfer iTunes purchases:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer
    - Transfer other music by using a third-party program like one of those discussed here:
    Copy music
    - Connect the iPod to the computer and make a backup by right clicking on the iPod under Devices in iTunes and select Back Up
    - Restore the iPod from that backup
Note that the iPod backup that iTunes makes does not included synced media like apps and music.

  • Is it possible to import tunes from your IPOD to your Mac?

I thought I had a good back up copy of my music & I was wrong. I had to restore my MBP to factory so now my music only resides on my Ipod. Is it possible to import it back into my Itunes library from the Ipod?

I suppose I could cut/paste the whole link since you don't seem to have read it, but the pertinent part of the link starts at this point.
"Switch the iPod to manual update and enable disk use
The first thing you need to do is make sure have configured your iPod to enable disk use. To do this:
Open iTunes on your old computer.
Connect your iPod to your old computer and wait for it to appear in iTunes.
Select your iPod in the Source pane under the Devices section to display your iPod preferences in the main library window.
Click the Summary tab in the main iTunes window.
Click the Manually manage music button. Changing from automatic updating to manual puts a check mark by Enable disk use. A message says"
Continue with the rest of the instructions after this point.
As a suggestion for future posts, it's always better to start your own topic rather than disrupting someone else's topic. It's more courteous to the original poster, & it can become very confusing to try to troubleshoot with several people in the same thread who may have similar but actually unrelated issues. Thanks!

  • Connecting your IPOD to your Car using a Pioneer Radio Adapter

Is there any easier way you can watch your videos on your IPOD using your Radio (Pioneer) Adapter. I had it working 3 times but the problems seems to be after I shut my car off, the adapter or the IPOD will not allow me to go back into the menu. I know I would press the Menu button continuously and the IPOD will take me straight into the menu. This is a cool feature to have because then your Ipod works like a Mini TV output for your car. Anyone has any suggestions!!!?????? Please hit me back up with a response.

I don't think it's really an "issue." Your iPod is fairly old if it does not have a color screen (probably the 4th gen model).
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1353
Recent iPods have much better processors and can interact in more ways with the devices they are connected to through the dock connector, like your car's system. It's like a computer... an old computer cannot do many things a newer one can do, no matter what software is installed because there are hardware technology limitations.
Now, if that other iPod you tried was the same model you have (or earlier), and it worked, please post back.
Otherwise, you should refer to the documentation that came with the system, or online info that may be available from the car maker's web site, to read the system requirements for the iPod. If your iPod meets the requirements, please post back.

Beware!  When you initialize your boot disk be sure that you specify "Journaled" and not "Case-sensitive, Journaled". Previous OSX installers would check this and give an error message. Mavericks does NOT! If you install using "Case-sensitive" many apps will not work.

Follow the instructions here or here; using the first set of instructions then requires syncing the second device with the iTunes library containing the content.

  • How do you sync your ipod to your itunes without loseing all your music?

Some how my itunes deleted all music (everything except my purchased music and I dont have my other music anywhere else only on my ipod.). Today I tryed to add a new Cd but i cant do that untill i get all my music from my ipod back into itunes by syncing it without losing everything. how do I do that i need to know ASAP

You need to put your ipod in manually manage mode. When you plug in your ipod the box that pops up is gonna state your ipod has been synced with another library do you want to erase and sync or transfer purchases or cancel. Hit cancel. Under devices in theleft hand side of itunes click the name of your ipod. That brings up a summary page, then select under options on that summary page manually manage ipod then click apply. You can then add content by dragging and dropping from itunes library to the name of your device. this allows syncing with multiple computers withuot losing content.

  • How do you import music from your ipod to your itunes???

I just got a new computer and I can't figure out how to get my music from my ipod to my new itunes, does anyone know how?

    Kid,
These links will give you several methods of recovering whatever songs remain on your iPod; some free, some third-party software, some more comprehensive for restoring Playlists, Ratings, Play Counts, etc. Read them and their associated links before deciding on a strategy that works for you. There are many various third-party software programs that will offer a more robust process, or an easier GUI. Do a Google search for them if the links below leave you wanting…
Don King Resurrected: Deleted files from hard drive (free user steps – music recovery only)
MacMuse: Computer Crashed (free user steps – music recovery only)
Copying music from iPod to computer (a primer on various methods and software)
Copying Songs from Your iPod to a Mac or PC (resource for 3rd party software)
    iPodRip Software
    PodUtil Software
Senuti (Mac OS X v10.3 or higher Recovery Utility)
XPlay (Software For Music Recovery &/or Cross-Platform Functionality)
XPlay Photo Browser (For recovering Photos)
After recovering your song files, strongly consider developing a thorough backup strategy for just this type of situation (and many other potential disasters).
You need at least two full sets of your music, not including what is on the iPod:
-- One full set on the PC within iTunes (on internal HD or ExHD)
-- One full set on an separate external backup medium (CD/DVD/ExHD/other)
-- One (full or partial) set on the iPod
Music files on just the iPod and only one other medium is not considered having any backup.
If you cannot store your complete music files on the computer’s internal HD, then create and maintain at least two external sets (any multiple combinations of ExHDs, DVDs, CDs).
Backup both the music files and the Library database file (iTunes Library.itl). What are the iTunes Library files?
Here is a post on developing a thorough backup strategy: http://discussions.apple.com/click.jspa?searchID=394618&messageID=1263275
