No, updating iTunes will not erase your library or backup files.

My 2 TB Time Capsule’s memory is full because it will notautomatically delete old files as it is supposed to, so it is giving me zerobackup of my two computers now. How can this be fixed so my Time Capsule deletes the old data and savesthe new?
Neither my local computer consultant nor I have been ableto change any of the settings in Time Machine to correct this problem.  Working with the choices in the TimeMachine, there does not appear that there is any way to change the frequency ofthe backups either, so, after a year has elapsed, the time capsule is full, andmy only choice appears to be to erase all the current data on the Time Capsuleand start over, something that I do not want to at all let alone repeat on anannual basis.  My questions are:
What can be done to have my Time Capsule delete old filesas it is supposed to do, so it has memory available to allow my computers toback up?
Is this a software problem that can be fixed online or isdoes this require a mechanical fix of defective hardware?

How much data is being backed-up from each Mac?  (see what's shown for Estimated size of full backup under the exclusions box in Time Machine Prefs > Options).
Is there any other data on your Time Capsule, besides the backups?
Most likely, there just isn't room.  Time Machine may be trying to do a very large (or full) backup of one or both Macs, and can't.  Since it won't ever delete the most recent backup, there has to be enough room for one full backup plus whatever it's trying to back up now, plus 20% (for workspace).
Also see #C4 in Time Machine - Troubleshooting for more details.

I was using iPod touch before and I bougth new iPhone 5S.I change my apple id.Now I can't syncronize my library and my new device. I deleted old one but nothing change.I can't only add music, videos etc in library when my device connected.I tried to delete iTunes and set up again but it doesn't work. It's really hard to using like this. I always add new things at iTunes when my device doesn't connected. Please help me

You reinstalled an old version of iPhoto after you updated your library to the newer version.
Update ALL your software and try again.
Click the Apple Menu at the upper left-hand corner of your screen and select "Software Update..."
Repeat until it tells you there are no more updates.
AND, launch the App Store application located in your Applications folder to see if there are any updates there as well.

  • Why does the new operating system not delete the moved files from their original location - it seems like an enormous waste of space, time and effort to clean up every file once you've moved it

Why does the new operating system not delete the moved files from their original locations - it seems like an enormous waste of space, time and effort to clean up every file once you've moved it - also, when transferring large amounts of files it becomes a very large problem remembering which files were transferred and which not.

You're going to need to be more specific, as I'm not quite sure I understand what you're talking about.
If you're referring to copying from an external hard drive or flash drive, and you want to actually move files rather than copy them, you can hold down the option key to force it to do a "move" rather than a "copy." This is not new behavior, though... the Mac OS has worked this way as long as I can recall (and I've been using it since 1984).
If you're having a problem with trying to move files from one place to another on a single drive causing them to be copied instead, that is likely because of some permissions issue preventing you from actually being able to move them.

  • Delete old files on my video ipod

I am a new ipod user and have a video ipod. I have been downloading podcasts to my ipod for a week or so. Even though in my itunes I keep only the newest episodes, my ipod retains all previous episodes. However, when I go to my ipod in the source list, all the podcast items are de-highlighted and I can not select or delete.
Can someone point me to a way to delete old files on my ipod?
    Thanks!

    Try this:
In iTunes click on "Podcast", you don't need to have your iPod connected.
Highlight the file you want to delete and press the DELETE key on your keyboard. It will ask if you want to delete the file. If you want to just remove it from your iPod and want to keep the original file on your computer select "Keep Files". If you want to remove from both, select "Move to crcycle bin". This is for PC. If you use a Mac the wording might be slightly different but the principle should be the same.
When you're all done deleting, connect your iPod and the podcasts will be automatically removed from your iPod.
    Hope it helps.

  • Time Machine SparseDisk Fails to Delete Old Files

I'm running Time Machine on the new 7.3.1 patch and have finally filled the drive. At first everything was going smoothly until I realized that Time Machine is not deleting old files to make room for new ones.
I found this out when I realized Time Machine stop backing up to it because the drive is full. Why is the sparsedisk not getting smaller or making room for newer backups?
Is it because this feature is unsupported?

Thanks.  Although the reset did nothing, by deleting enough old backups (a VERY slow process) I could get it to free enough space for another backup.  It's not clear to me why it cannot do this automatically.
Time Machine will delete old backups, if it can.  So something must be wrong.  See #C4 in Time Machine - Troubleshooting.
If nothing there helps, a clue may be lurking in your logs.  Use the widget in #A1 of Time Machine - Troubleshooting to display the backup messages from your logs.  Locate the backup in question, then copy and post all the messages here.

  • How do I get Time Machine to delete old files?

On threads for earlier operating systems I've seen similar questions, and it seems Apple hasn't resolved the problem that although Time Machine says it will delete old files when the disc is full, it doesn't do it, even though my hard drive has only ~300 GB of files on it and my external hard drive has 1.5 T, it does nothing to delete old files automatically.  This hasn't always been the case.  The first few entries were deleted awhile back, freeing space, but that has stopped happening.  Any suggestions?  Do I have to start with a fresh external hard drive?

  • Cant upload new songs in iTunes from new computer onto iPhone 3gs

How do I upload new songs in my new iTunes from my mac to my iphone 3gs WITHOUT deleting or replacing all the old songs? My old computer crashed and I have no way of accessing those old songs but I dont want to loose all 509 songs. some were burnt from CDs i no longer have some were purchased through iTunes etc...help please! i really like my old music and just want to update it.

By 'rebooted' do you mean that you only rebooted it, or that you reinstalled its software ?
If rebooted then aare the songs still on your computer, just not in iTunes - by default your iTunes library is stored under :
    Mac OS X: /Users/username/Music
    Windows XP: \Documents and Settings\username\My Documents\My Music\
    Windows Vista: \Users\username\Music\iTunes
    Windows 7 and Windows 8: \Users\username\My Music\iTunes
If it's there then File > Add To Library in iTunes should let you add it back.
If not then you should be able to copy iTunes purchases (including apps, films etc) back from your phone via File > Devices > Transfer Purchases.
For non-iTunes purchases (and for purchases if need be) there are some programs listed half-way down this page which can copy them back : Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device
Then add them to iTunes via File > Add To Library
If iTunes thinks that you are trying to sync the phone to a new computer : Syncing to a "New" Computer or replacing a "crashed" Hard Drive

  • Uploading new music from itunes to my nano

From the begining, I have been able to upload cd's and music from itues; and whenever I connect my nano to my computer the songs have always downloaded to my nano. The problem is.....For the past month, anything "new" that I have purchased through Itunes has not downloaded to my nano. I have already installed all new verions of Itunes and gone through the "hold" or "reset" function that Itunes suggests. Does anyone have any other suggesetions for this problem?

For the past month, anything "new" that I have purchased through Itunes has not downloaded to my nano.
just checking something quickly. if you play the songs in itunes for a few seconds, does itunes ask you to authorise the PC?
if so, once you've authorised them, do they transfer through to the ipod?

  • Want to start new admin account and delete old one in 10.3.9: recommended?

I just bought a used iMac G4 running 10.3.9. It works fine, but -- being a used computer -- the main admin account has the previous owner's username and password. (And most importantly, the "Short Name" -- which can't be changed -- is the previous owner's personal name.)
I have the password for the existing admin account -- no problem there. But I would like to start a new admin account, with a "Short Name" and password of my choosing, rather than forever be tied down to using the previous owner's account.
I know how to start a new admin account, customized as I like -- again, that's not the problem. The question is: what would happen if, after I created a new admin account, I then deleted the original admin accounr created by the previous ower?
    Is this possible?
    Is this recommended?
Will it screw up "permissions" and "ownership" of existing files/applications, etc.?
I actually went through this process before, with a different used Mac, and I remember encountering some problems afterward, that I'd like to avoid this time around.
(Also, I should mention that the install disks did not come with the computer, so I can't re-install the OS without buying new disks.)
    So:
Should I start a new admin account, then delete the old admin account?
Should I start a new admin account, and just leave both accounts on the machine but ignore the old one?
Or should I just leave things as is and endure having a goofy "Short Name" on my account?

OK, I took the plunge and it seemed to work out OK.
I created a new account. Then I marked it as an "Administrator" account (a trivial detail that I actually couldn't figure how to do for a few confusing minutes). Then I selected the new account to be the account that the computer automatically logs in to when it starts up. Then I restarted, and was logged into the new admin account. Then -- crossing my fingers -- I deleted the old admin account (and kept the deleted account info just in case). I then restarted again and, as hoped, everything started up fine, I was automatically logged into my new account with my desired "Short Name" etc., and when I checked, the old account was gone.
So far, everything has worked fine since then. So, I declare this issue resolved.

  • Time Machine almost full, can I start a new drive and NOT delete old one?

Because I had an External HD crash, I was wondering if I can start a new External Hard Drive (500 GB) from scratch (meaning I don't copy old files to it) and keep the old one as a back up to the back up??? Also, I have NOT been backing up the applications and on the new drive, would like to do that. If I move the old stuff from the 300GB, won't the Applications take up most of the 500 GB??
Or is is simply better to copy everything over (I asssume it all remains on the old 300 GB hard drive) and simply let it start rewriting? My iMac is gettin on in years and I'd like to be prepared should something happen to it.
And as you can tell, I am not very techie so please feel free to talk down to me.
Has anyone migrated to a new External HD? I have directions from Apple, is it easy????
    Thanks . . running out of space soon . . .

Just to be sure, do you mean your TM drive crashed?  Or an external HD, containing data that TM was backing-up?
I was wondering if I can start a new External Hard Drive (500 GB) from scratch (meaning I don't copy old files to it) and keep the old one as a back up to the back up???
Again, I'm not sure what you mean.   If you mean put the old TM drive "on the shelf" and start fresh on a new one, then yes.  Eject and disconnect it, then format the new one (see Time Machine - Frequently Asked Question #5 if you're not sure how).  Give it a different name, so you're sure which is which, then select it as the destination via the Time Machine Preferences window.  TM will do a full backup to it, so may take a while.
The backups on the new drive will be completely separate from the old ones.
If you ever need to see or restore from the new ones, use the Browse Other Backup Disks option, per #17 in the above link.
I have NOT been backing up the applications and on the new drive, would like to do that.
Yes, it's usually not a good idea to exclude System or Applications folders.
If I move the old stuff from the 300GB, won't the Applications take up most of the 500 GB??
No -- your Applications folder is probably in the range of 10-20 GBs.wn to me.
Has anyone migrated to a new External HD? I have directions from Apple, is it easy????
Again, not sure just what you mean.
