Does using a keyboard cover block the fans?

I am using an iSkin keyboard cover for my MacBook Pro 15" Retina Display purchased in 2012. I was wondering if using this keyboard cover hinders the fans' performance.

  • Should I use a keyboard cover with the new retina screen?

    Someone in an apple store told me I shouldn't use a silicone keyboard cover on the new 13" macbook pro w/ retina because apparently theres not enough space for it when the laptop is closed and its been causing faults? Anyone know anything about this?

    It also blocks the air intake.
    I use the original thin foam packaging that comes between the screen and KB from the factory to reduce debris gettting in and the monitor getting impressions.
    Since it's light and thin, lets air get in under it and into the machine throught the keyboard, deflects spills it's been great for the last few years.
    I use a external keyboard and scroll wheel mouse to take the wear and tear, I hate trackpads anyway.

  • Keyboard Cover for the MBP

    Does anybody have a Keyboard cover for the MBP?
    i'm looking to invest in one, just need suggestion on which and where to get one!

    btw: its a 15" mbp

    Whether you're talking about the old MacBook Pro (with "PowerBook" style keyboard) or the new unibody Late 2008 MacBook Pro (with chiclet, MacBook Air style keyboard), the BEST one I think, because I searched far and wide and tried them "all" out, is from iSkin.
    It's not sticky (like ZCover's) and it's not el cheapo like some other ones I've seen that advertise as not being sticky (it literally, the silicone cover, sticks to your fingers while typing), but look like crud.
    I am typing with one right now. It is fantastic. I bought the "painted on" ones. It was the Arctic Pro Touch FX model.
    Here it is:
    [http://www.iskin.com/productkbrdair.html]
    (If you have the older MacBook Pro, just go to the right section on their website. You can also choose which ever color you like, of course. I just liked how the keyboard cover I got looks like there is NO keyboard cover at all!).
    P.S. KBCovers also sells a similar cover and they are not sticky either. I just didn't find out about them until after I bought my iSkin one. (Was at Macworld last week, why I was able to "test drive" all the models before settling on one). Also, PowerSupport is coming out with one--according to the dealers there--but it's not out yet. Their demo is also not the sticky kind. (Too much info?).

  • Does anyone know how to reset the fan on a MacBook Pro 13-inch (Late 2011) to it's factory setting speed (Maybe Terminal may help?)

    I have a late-2011 13-inch MacBook Pro running OS X Yosemite. (Standard configuration).
    My problem is that I downloaded a fan control application and it worked perfectly, but it started to get annoying so I deleted it.
    Does anyone know how to reset the fan speed back to factory settings (Maybe a command in terminal?)

    Hello damo1177,
    It should help to reset your system's SMC and NVRAM.

  • Keyboard Cover for the Envy 17-j053ea (EU)

    Hello all, I'm in search of a keyboard cover for the laptop model in the subject. Keyboard covers for this model of laptop exist but they are often the US layout (for instance, the return key is a rectangle as opposed to a 7 shape as it is on an EU layout). Whilst this doesn't run under hardware problems, it would however run under protecting the hardware.
    Is anyone able to find a keyboard cover for me as I cannot seem to find any anywhere?!
    If only it was easier to clean laptop keyboards from tiny bits of dust and dog hairs.
    Thanks in advance.

    Helloo,
         I've also been searching for a cover for my HP Envy, and I have the 15" one, but it's still pretty similar because there's no covers with the EU return key [the one that's shaped like a 7]. So after alot of searching, I went on the second page of Google [!!!] and I found this link that provides customized clear keyboard covers!
         The catch? It covers the entire bottom portion of your laptop, including the touchpad. So for me the idea of a plasticky touchpad is kind of repelling, but I'm not sure what you would prefer, so I'll just leave the link here.

         However, if you do find one that only covers the keyboard, be sure to mention it as that would infinitely be better.
         Good luck!

  • Since updating to iOS 8 my keyboard is blocking the area of text that I am writing on and will not allow me to scroll up. I am not using the split keyboard function. How do I fix this as it is quite annoying

    I Have recently updated to iOS8 and now my keyboard blocks the area of text that I am typing in an won't allow me to scroll the screen up to see what I am typing. I am not using the split keyboard function

    Hello there Smart43,
    It sounds like you are not able to correctly see the message you are typing because the keyboard is in the way. I can understand how that would be pretty frustrating. I would start by quitting the running apps on your device:
    iOS: Force an app to close
    Double-click the Home button.
    Swipe left or right until you have located the app you wish to close.
    Swipe the app up to close it.
    When you have done that restart the device and test the issue again:
    iOS: Turning off and on (restarting) and resetting
    Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    All the very best,
    Sterling

  • Should I not be using a keyboard cover?

    I got a keyboard cover yesterday and I love it already, but I've heard quite a few people say that it can, and for them, has, damaged the screen. I'm just starting college so I'm not exactly made of money, and I'd hate to ruin my screen because of something I was uneducated about. Should I keep it on? Thanks.

    It is only good in theory....
    Will it block spills and dirt? Yes.
    Why is it BAD? The oil from your fingers etc. transfer to the screen when you close it.
    It keeps in heat, prevents (heat rises, the cover keeps it from escaping) the Mac from venting itself,….Macs vent from the FAN (convection).
    from the conduction transfer of the metal chasis, ....and thru upwards heat radiation (thru the top platform/keyboard).
    If youre worried about damage not covered by Apple warr.  (such as spills, theft , drops etc) you can buy personal insurance for same which is very cheap per year.

  • Using Safari and Skype and the fan is going full power. What is the problem and how to fix it?

    My 13-Inch MacBook Pro has been experiencing heat problems while I go on to applications such as Safari, Word and Skype. It's never done this before.
    What's the problem here and how can I fix it?

    Skype is the one giving you problems.....
    When sitting at idle, Skype can use as much as 90% of your CPU's resources.  The reason I know this is because I use Skype and have to shut it down once the fans start spinning and my Macbook starts getting hotter.
    Another solution is to downgrade Skype one version down.  That seems to work for a few people.
    good luck...

  • HT203171 Why does my laptop overheat and then the fan goes absolutely beserk!!!

    Well basically after about half an hour of use the laptop starts to make a luder fan noise.
    After 10 minutes of this the fan goes beserk - I mean beserk and it's quite scarry. Then the entire operating system fails and the system restarts. I tried resetting the PMU but it won't reset properly. I need some other way of fixing it.

    Hello:
    You need to take the computer in for diagnosis.  There is a hardware issue, but no one can diagnose that on-line.

  • HT1689 My keyboard is blocking the viewvevery time i need to type

    Can anyone help ! The keyboard now appears on top of the screen im writing on, so you cant see anthying..

    If it's partway up the screen then press and hold the 'keyboard' button at the bottom right of the keyboard and after a second or so a popup should appear - on that select 'Dock' and the keyboard should move to the bottom of the screen.

  • Some patterns used in "replace text" block the whole IDE

    I sometimes need to do something like replace (.*) with tbl.\1 = rec.\1
    This I thought should be achievable using regular expressions, but it is dangerous to use within sqldeveloper as it can freeze the whole program. Doing a single substitution works as expected, but doing a prompted replace shows that instead of performing the above once per line as expected, it is done recursively in seemingly never-ending loop, which I guess is what makes the IDE seem to freeze if one attempts a global replace.
    Also I noticed that under 3.0 I can also replace .* with tbl.& = rec.& with the same (deceiving) result, but this seems unsupported under 3.1EA (albeit a fairly standard construct as RE's go).

    OK STOP FOR A MOMENT ... i found a way to display the external text in a dynamic textbox
    and i managed to let it display only one parte of the text...
    my question now is:
    var xmlData:XML = new XML();
    xmlData.ignoreWhite = true;
    xmlData.onLoad = function(ok:Boolean){
        if(ok){
            trace(this);
            box1.text = this.firstChild.firstChild.firstChild.firstChild.nodeValue; /*using the xml file that i postet above i get the HEADLINE text of HOME and everything is ok*/
            box2.text = this.firstChild.firstChild.firstChild.secondChild.nodeValue;/*i wanted the second tag under HEADLINE to be displayed (body) but the command seconChild does not exist.. how do i tell him that i wantthe text of the HOME and not of HEADLINE???*/
        }else{
            trace("ERRORE CARICAMENTO XML");
    xmlData.load("txtsito.xml");
    i wanted the second tag under HEADLINE to be displayed (body) but the command seconChild does not exist.. how do i tell him that i wantthe text of the HOME and not of HEADLINE???

  • How to use progress indicator which block the user for editing ?

    Hi All,
    I have a requirement where i need to show a round progress bar while processing to the database.For example :- I have a bounded taskflow and inside it I have a two jspx page called as "First.jspx" and "Second.jspx".And i have two textboxes and one "Save" button on first.jspx page.
    Now when user puts the values in the textboxes and hits the "Save" button , my ticker or progress indicator should say "Please wait while processing" and as soon as the transaction is complete , i need to show another page which is "Second.jspx" page. "Save" button action has method inside a managed bean which has some functionality and then it executes the VO(View Object) and commits the data.
    How should i implement the indicator?
    I have read this article :- http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/developer-tools/adf/learnmore/42-progressbarcolor-169184.pdf but it doesn't fit to my requirement.I need indicator which holds the user to edit anything on the page.Like what we get when we do any transaction in banks while navigating to payment gateway.
    Please suggest!!!
    Thanks and Regards,
    Shah

  • How long should you use the Macbook is the fan is at Max?

    Hey all, the reason i ask is because sometimes when i visit a site with embedded video the CPU rises and heats up so the fan goes up to max. How long should you keep there with out damaging anything? Sometimes the videos are 45 mins, there tv shows and by 5th min is heated up and i dont want to keep it running for the rest of the 45 mins and wreck somthing. Whats the max time for that?

    Not really an answer but I was wondering where your computer is located or how you are using it? My kids were putting a quilted blanket on their lap and then running their notebook on top of the blanket. The blanket had a terrible insulating affect on the computer. And to make matters worse, sometimes the blanket would block the fan exhaust! I had to scold them and teach them to put something else on the blanket over their lap, like a book, and then put the notebook on the book. That really stopped the fan from running a lot.
    It's just something to be aware of. The MB will run cooler if there is space all around it.
