Does Verizon FiOS block Port 5900?

Okay, so I've got a computer with absolutely no ports blocked, I've shut off the firewall, the thing is behind a router, but set as DMZ. I still can't control/observe. I can use every other feature of ARD except control/observe, and screen sharing. I've confirmed that port 5900 is not responding on the computer in question, despite the above extreme trouble-shooting measures. The computer in question is not on my local network, it's in another state with Verizon FiOS internet. Does Verizon block port 5900, or should I suspect there is something else going on with the router or ARD?
If port 5900 is being blocked by the ISP, can I use router/ARD magic to change what port actually gets used, while still making ARD happy?
I'm kind of going crazy here...

Welcome to the Discussions,
You will have to check with Verizon to see if they pass port 5900 or not. I suspect that may be the case.
While I can't tell you how to change the port, I can tell you that many administrators use port 80 tools like gotoassist.com or logmein.com for system on networks out of their control. Of course you won't be using ARD, but it is much easier than changing the default port settings on every machine.

  • Does Verizon FIOS Support Outlook 2010?

I just upgraded my computer to MS 7.0 o/s and to Office 2010.  I am having trouble configuring Outlook 2010 to the same mailbox address I've used successfully for the last 5 years on Office 2003.  Does Verizon FIOS support Outlook 2010?

Certainly they support Outlook 2010, just not automatically.

That is what I have to say about it.
There should be a law against a utility turning off a standard service. It is like the electric company all the sudden deciding they will only send DC. Now my appliances don't work.

All you need to do is to change the outgoing server on your non verizon accounts to
    outgoing.verizon.net
Check the authentication box and enter your verizon mail userid and password under setting and in the advanced tab make the port 587
You've wasted more time in compiling the complaint than it would take you to fix the issue.

  • Does Verizon Fios Internet Support Docis 3.0?

I am looking at purchasing my own router and modem, wondering if they even support Docis 3.0

Verizon FIOS services does not use a modem.  There is either an ethernet or coax connection from the Verizon Network into the home.  If ethernet you can plug any router you want into that connection.  If coax you would need to use a router that supports coax or ask VZ to see about converting your connection from COAX to Ethernet.
Also, if you have FIOS TV Services you may want to stick with the VZ provided router.  The VZ Router provides Internet Connectivity to the STB's for On-Demand, Channel Guide and remote programming of your DVR.
Some folks will install a secondary router leaving the STB's connected on the VZ Router and having all of your devices connected on the secondary router including wireless LAN

  • Does Verizon Wireless support Port forwarding.

The 4510L has port forwarding. But the IP address ports are all stealth. I know VW has to take security measures for spam and hackers but this is just a little over kill here. The IP addresses they use are from wdspco.org. At lest in my area. Come on VW where is a tech support that are not sale reps. This feature should be part of the ISP service. It should not be an issue to allow simple port forwarding for the NOC. I know the public IP address is not routable. Its not going to cost more to route.

  • VOIP has stopped working -- FIOS Internet -- Verizon blocking ports?

    Background:
I have two VOIP device, one is from VOIP.com (HT-286) and the other is my Blackberry 8220 wifi-enabled phone.
Until December, I had Cox Internet for the last two years -- ZERO problems with the above devices.  I made and received phone calls just fine.
FIOS internet installed early december.  Both devices worked fine on install.  I made and recevieved VOIP phone calls with both the VOIP.com device (Home phone) and my wifi Blackberry.
I've taken my VOIP box over to the neighbor's to test it -- works fine.  I plug into their router and have no problems.  My wifi Blackberry works just fine when I go to to the bookstore or coffee shop (Free wifi).
Internet (as defined by using PC web browser) and TV work fine.  We have VOIP service with VOIP.com.
    Problem:
About two weeks ago, I noticed that I would occasionally get phone calls on the blackberry and there would be no one there. I didn't think anything of it until my wife finally asked me why she couldn't make outgoing calls on the house phone.
I tested it, and this is what I found:
    BOTH PHONES:
Phone rings.  "Dead" call.  However, the caller can hear ME but I cannot hear them
I make outgoing call on VOIP/house phone:  I get dial tone, and dial as normal, but once I've dialed, SILENCE.  No ring, nothing.  The called phone will ring but I will not hear it, nor hear the other party answering.  I can call my wife's cel phone (Tmobile) or work phone and it rings.  She can hear me, but I cannot hear her.
I make outgoing calls on wifi Blackberry:  Enter number and press send as normal, but SILENCE.  Same symptoms as above.
As I said, I've taken both devices to other networks and they work fine.  NOTHING was changed on the router in the time frame EXCEPT the name of the SSID, which I changed the very first day --both devices were working for several weeks after.
I have powered off and restarted the router a dozen times and I just did a "hard" reset to return it to the factory settings :: my voip service still is not working properly.
    WHAT I HAVE DONE:
I called Verizon FIOS Internet support.  They say since I can watch TV and access the web, that nothing is wrong.
I called VOIP.com and they say they see the device coming into their network, but they cannot see if Verizon is blocking ports 5060-5070.
Blackberry support flat-out says that Verizon is blocking ports.

VZ isn't blocking those ports.  they only have restrictions on port 25, and in some areas port 80.  all other ports are open.
I would reach back out to voip.com and see if you can escelate it with them.    you can also go to portforward.com and see if they have any walkthrough guides for your particular device.    if you have a friend with fios you can try switching routers to see if that is the culprit, but there is nothing in your description that suggests to me that it would be a router issue.     Also look into QOS if your VOIP people can give you any information on that,   it may also be an avenue you would want to explore if you have VOIP transpiring over there.

  • Port-forwarding or UPnP on VERIZON FIOS modem/router

I'm trying to help someone access his home network remotely from another location. he just got the new Verizon FIOS network.
i'm new to the world of port-forwarding and UPnP forwarding, but have learned a lot in a short period of time.
I can easily setup port-forwarding and UPnP forwarding (necessary to setup the afp file sharing, screen sharing, etc) on Linksys routers that have those capabilities.
My friend just got the new Verizon FIOS network installed. It is smoking fast both up and down. We figured out that the box Verizon provided him (it's a fairly huge thing) is an internet modem, a router, and a wireless router all in one.
And once we accessed its control panel, I definitely saw places where we could configure port-forwarding........
but it's not quite as straightforward as it is on a Linksys router in that, on a Linksys, if I want to open a specific port, like 5900, for screen sharing, I can easily type in the numbers 5900 and type the IP address of the computer on my LAN that I wish to forward port 5900 traffic to.......or I can do this with UPnP forwarding....either way it is simply and fully controllable.
But on this Verizon box, it seems to have most standard ports and protocols stored in presets that you must choose from. For example, if I wanted to setup port forwarding for FTP traffic, I would choose FTP from the dropdown menu and then the router would automatically know to forward port 21 to the computer of my choice.
but we specifically want to turn on AFP for apple file sharing, which is port 548. On the Linksys, i could simply type port 548. But this Verizon router does not show a service called AFP. It has a nice LONG menu of many different pre-set options, but AFP is not one of them. Would it be called something else on a device like this that is obviously not specifically designed to know Apple's file sharing protocol?
So would anyone know what kind of service I should look for that opens port 548 for file sharing?
Anyone have experience with these new Verizon routers/modems yet? I'd really love to find a way to type everything in manually, but I dunno if that's possible on this unit.
i know there's a lot here. thank you to anyone who knows about this and can shed some light

That doesn't work because applications that initiate outbound connections are given randomly assigned 5-digit port numbers (e.g., 49144) through which the CLIENT communicates. The "well known" port numbers like 548 for afp, 22 for ssh, 80 for web servers, etc., are for the SERVER function to which the server daemon listens. Example: you don't send the request to download your email from your pop 110 (or 995 when using SSL), or from your imap 143 (or 993 when using SSL); that's the port number at the DESTINATION server to where your traffic is delivered, i.e., the port to which that SERVER is listening for incoming traffic. Same for when you send mail, you send from some randomly assigned five-digit port number TO the smtp server's port 25. You can see this by launching Terminal.app from an admin-privileged account and typing sudo tcpdump -i en1 (use en1 for airport, en0 for wired ethernet) and looking at the packet transmissions' headers.

  • Change to FIOS service, port 25 is now blocked.

Outbound traffic on port 25 is now being blocked for residential FIOS service?  When I signed up in November I specifically asked and I was told that Verizon does not do any port blocking on FIOS service.  I am now in a contract with Verizon and they have changed the service provided and I can no longer use port 25 outbound.

    somegirl wrote:
You don't have to use 587 specifically, just some port other than 25. 587 is the most commonly used "other" port, so it's what Verizon suggests, but you should check with your email provider.
As an example, I have an AT&T email account in addition to FiOS. I have that account defined in Windows Live Mail using outgoing server smtp.att.yahoo.com on port 465 using SSL and I can send using that account just fine while connected to FiOS - I rarely send using that account so I just verified earlier this afternoon that it still works.

  • How do I set up a Apple TC with a Verizon FIOS wireless modem model  Actiontec 424wi F series.  Does the wifi in the modem have to be shut off and will it effect the FIOS tv?

How do I set up an Apple TC with a Verizon FIOS wireless modem model MI424wr F.  Does the wifi have to be turned off in the modem and then bridge it to the TC?  Will FIOS tv be effected?

Your first call should be to Verizon support to ask them if you turn off the wireless on the Actiontec router....will it affect any of the features/functions of the FIOS system?
If yes, then it would be best to leave the Actiontec router "as is" and connect the Time Capsule using Ethernet in Bridge Mode as a back up device only (wireless is turned off on the Time Capsule).
If you want to use the dual band (and likely much faster) wireless capability of the Time Capsule, then you should turn off the wireless on the Actiontec device to help prevent wireless interference effects that will likely occur when two wireless routers are in close proximity to each other.
Again, the Time Capsule would be connected to the Actiontec router using an Ethernet connection from one of the LAN <-> ports on the Actiontec router to the WAN port (circle icon) on the Time Capsule. Configure the Time Capsule in Bridge Mode as well in this type of configuration.
Bottom line....what Verizon says will pretty much dictate how you can set up the TIme Capsule.

  • Verizon blocks ports?

I have DSL & Actiontec GT704-WG. I opened a port to host online game, but when I use a port scanner found here: http://www.canyouseeme.org/
It tells me my port is closed even though I forwarded everything correctly. Does verizon block any ports besides 80? I only use windows firewall so i know its not a firewall problem. Anyone with same router can help me?
    Thanks
heres a snapshot of my router
    http://i45.tinypic.com/105edd5.jpg

Verizon itself doesn't block ports at the head end besides port 25 for smtp outgoing email.  they basically don't let spammers bounce messages off their smtp servers to send emails.   Port 80 is questionably blocked by region - I have seen a lot of users in the forums that have port 80 unblocked.  and then sporadically a user forum member will say its blocked but most people say its unblocked now.  VZ made that decision middle of last year.
The router that verizon provides has a firewall and like all firewalls it blocks a BUNCH of stuff.  that's what firewalls do.  it's kinda their gig.
If you port forward, try to use portforward.com for a good guide.
Basically this is stuff you probably know, but I'll recap just in case.
Set your pc to have it's own IP address   - you'll configure that on your PC nic settings under tcpip v4
then go into the router, and open the proper ports.  I don't know what ports your game wants, but make sure the source port is set to any, and do not specify a number in that section.
make sure its pointed to the IP you gave your PC, and apply the changes and try again.
if that doesn't work there may be one or two users here that will pop up that may have additional info, but you can also reach out on the portforward.com forums and see if you can get some answers there,   DSL Tech support won't help with any port forward configurations.  they consider it advanced and out of their boundaries.

  • I have Verizon FIOS and I am trying to connect an Air Port Express to my Directv

I have Verizon FIOS and I am trying to connect my Air Port Express to my DirecTV.  My iMac does not see the airport express, even though the light is a solid green and connected to my HD-DVR.  Any ideas?

Assuming your modem is wireless use Airport Utility to configure the AEX to extend an existing network. The modem's wireless router should be configured to allow its network to be extended.

  • Port 5900 appears blocked from WAN

I have 39 Macs I am remotely administering but a few (2) seem to have port 5900 for VNC as blocked.  We have rules out our router as a PC at the same location can VNC no problem through that route/firewall.  So it seems to me that the port is being blocked on that Mac.  The remote management setting are all set to allow and the internal ipfw is turned off.  At one time IceFloor was installed but those settings have been dumped and uninstalled.  Is there a way to restore all the ipfw setting to open to ensure it is not the Mac blocking the port?

Looks like I can't edit my original question...
The problem is still happening, I've been doing some testing to narrow it down...
+ it's not just my computer (have also tried from my mums PowerPC and my sisters iMac), although it could be a mac thing (I don't have a windows machine to test from, only windows running on a mac, though I will give that a shot later)
+ it's not my internet connection (although it could be my ISP - I tested at my sisters place, who uses the same ISP as me, am looking for another testing location that has a different ISP)
+ it's not my website (have tried uploading to a completely unrelated website with similar results)
+ it's not cyberduck (have tried with filezilla, similar results, also tried via terminal - I don't know how to upload files, but when I connected, it connected through a different port, a 5 digit number, can't remember what now).
Not too sure where to go from here...

    Hello,
I can not say for certain they are intentionally blocking certain traffic. I used to connect to my office VPN through the 3G network all the time. I recently upgraded to the 4g device. I spent all day troubleshooting this since I'm the network administrator at my company. Even with the aid of my firewall support representative we could not connect. I can, however connect using my home Wifi network. Clearly there is something different about the 4g traffic. I'll post anything else I discover.
Thank you for your inquiry. Adding to what was stated, I did some research and confirmed with technical support that we do not block incoming ports nor traffic in and out of the ports. Please try to configure your connection manager to use Layer 2 Tunneling Protocol (L2TP) or another alternative VPN solution available within your company to adjust your setting accordingly so you can make a connection. I respect the fact that you are the Network Administrator.  However, the setting up and using the VPN is done strictly by the Administrator. This is because one VPN can differ from another VPN.

  • Can I disable my Verizon Fios Router Wireless radio, connect it to a switch and use my airport express as my wireless access point connected to an in wall ethernet port?

Here's the deal.  I have a Verizon Fios MI424WR router.  My house has CAT5 throughout the house.  The media panel is located in the garage.  I want to take the Verizon Fios Router and cannot it in the media panel so I can connect a switch to it, that way, all my CAT5 can fire throughout the house. Verizon being Verizon decided to connect the router directly in the office.
Can I go this route (Router in media panel, switch cross connect to it) and use Airport Express, connected to one of the in-wall CAT5 ports in my house and then set it up as my wireless access point to provide wifi to my portable devices (iPad, iPhone, Macbook)?  Is this possible? Will Airport Express comminicate with my verizon router via ethernet in-wall? Do I have to turn off the wireless radio in the Verizon router?  Any help would be greatly appreciated!

That is right, by hard wired I was just making clear wired vs wireless attachment.  AirPort family of devices will only act in a repeater mode with their own family members, not FiOS routers.  they have to be wired to work.
There are some useful docs you can download from Apple, Support, Manuals, Peripherals, AirPort (just follow thos links from the Support button on the top bar):

    Designing AirPort Networks
    AirPort Express Setup Guide
The last has a diagram of what you are trying to do, though without the house wiring, etc., but the basic principle.

Hi, need help on resolving this issue with Verizon.  Had Verizon FIOS triple play installed at my house about 12 days ago.  HD Prime, 15/5 internet and Digital Voice landline.  I switched from TimeWarner cable.    I signed up online for Verizon FIOS and tried to use my current house  telephone number when signing up.  Next day I get a call from a Verizon rep telling me my order was lost even thou I had a confirmation number and that I would have to redo my online sign up.

What I have learned from talking with Verizon billing, is because my old telephone number  that I had with TimeWarner  had been originally given to me by Verizon many years back and then it was  ported over to TimeWarner from Verizon that Verizon now won't port the old number back over to my house landline  because they have already ported it out once years ago for me.
