Does w530 msata support 6Gbps SATA III?

Hi everyone, I know W520 mSATA support 3 Gbps connection. but by launching new mSATAIII SSDs I hope W530 with Ivy Bridge and QM77 chipset suports 6 Gbps connection.

Since my general recommendation for a normal SSD is the Samsung 830, my recommendation for an mSATA SSD is the Samsung PM830. The PM830 is the Samsung 830 in a mSATA format. It is also somewhat future-proof in the sense that it is capable of SATA III speeds.

W520 support for SATA III or 6GB with Vertex 3 240GB SSD

I need a laptop that supports 16GB memory, HD display (1920 X 1080) and SATA 3 with 6Gb speeds to leverage my existing Vertex 3 240GB SSD.
Looking up PSREF, I find the W520 specs state SATA 3Gb/s (SATA II?) while the chipset is QM67 which is supposed to support SATA III 6Gb/s.
So the question is, does the W520 support SATA 3 at 6Gb/s? I need the throughput to leverage the throughput of the Vertex 3 240GB SSD for multiple VM's on my laptop.

Just for the record i been using several SSDs with the W520 including the OCZ Vertex 3 and OCZ Vertex 3 max and they both fit fine with the rubber rails in the W520. Just don't mount the case that is normally around the HDD/SSD. You won't need that case anyway when using the SSD in the W520. Use only the rubber rails and the SSD will fit fine and should be seated fine as well.

Tecra R850 - SSD support for SATA III 6.0GB

Hi.
I bought R850 with SSD.
The bad thing is that SSD 256gb installed is limited to SATA II with transfer up to 300/mb. I read that Sandy Bridge Supports SATA III which covers 600/mb.
Is somebody successfuly installed better SSD disk capable with SATA3?
I tried Sisoft Sandra and it reported that SSD SATA is II, the same for Motherboard. The HwINFO reported that chipset is capable with SATA 3. The Everest shows only SSD data with SATA 2.
Is the bios blocked for higher transfers ? I got 180mb/s read, 150 mb/write - which is 3x worse than normal SATA 3 256gb SSD harddisks.
Can anybody help me and tell - if it is matter of R850 bios ? or just only the old Toshiba SSD firmware ? if I buy better SSD with SATA3 - will it fully support higher speed ?

HI. this is Tecra R850-1D8 with Toshiba's SSD 256gb. I know that laptop has Sandy bridge and should support 6.0gb SATA III, but in strange way Toshiba limited it and Sandra and other programs sees that it its SATA II only compatible. I think the problem is hidden in the bios.
I think there is no hardware limits - only slow old SSD and limited bios.
Maybe this could be unblocked ? or Toshiba upgrade the bios - to allow user to use newer SSD drives ?
May they would like to sell new R850 with newer SSDs so they will need unblock it.

as there are so many SSD manufacturers in the market right now Lenovo is unable to test all of it; but in most cases, all SSD are compatible.

Does x220-i7 and x230 support USB 3.0 and SATA III (6GB) ExpressCards?

I am going to buy a used x220 i7 or x230 i5 and would like to confirm:
1)Each and every x220 and x230 laptop (regardless of model and options) does have an available (external) MiniPCI Express slot.
2)Every x230 i5 and x220 i7 (including those that do not have a built-in USB 3.0 port) will fully support a USB 3.0 ExpressCard adapter with 2 USB 3.0 ports and will get a USB 3.0 speed on Win7-64.
3) Every x230 i5 and x220 i7 will fully support a SATA III (6GB) ExpressCard adapter with 2 ESATA ports and will get a SATA III speed on Win7-64.

Macbook Pro 2011 SATA III support

I would like to know if the new Macbook Pro 2011 supports SATA III SSD's. I know the thunderbolt needs the Sandy Bridge to work, however I am not sure if that means that the chip will definitely support a SATA III SSD. Does anyone know ????

I am looking at buy a OCZ VERTEX 3 SATA III 2.5" SSD and I just want to be sure that if I spend the money on it I am going to get 100% functionality to include the 6/Gbps, minus of course the TRIM feature because from what I understand Apple locked it out. Do you know if this drive will work on the 2011 MacBook Pro.

Impact of SATA III - Especially for RAID

I am wondering what difference in throughput/speed SATA III will bring to RAID arrays...
for example, will a 6 x 1T SATA III RAID (any level) be as fast as a 12 x 1T SATA II RAID (comparable level).
The practical reason for my question is this: to invest in 12 SATA II discs and a SATA II RAID controller now,
or wait 6 months for more SATA III RAID controllers (and discs) to hit the markets.
The motherboards I am looking at only support 2 SATA III discs... OK for a RAID 0, but I am looking for RAID 3/5/etc. as well.
I am keeping a couple of my PCIe slots empty and waiting...

until you hit 6 or more drives (the more you add the better it gets) they are very close in numbers.
2 drive raid 0 onboard 196 intel sas (sata3) 215
4 drive raid 0 onboard 364 Intel SAS (sata 3) 429
4 drive raid 5 onboard 296 Intel sas (sata 3) 315
raid 5 or 6 etc is what most people would run with multiple drives like that

Does the Mac Pro Support SATA III?

Hi everyone, I've been wondering for a long time: Does the late 2012 12-Core Mac Pro support SATA III 6Gb connection? If not, is there any way of making it SATA III?

Most commercially-available rotating drives cannot possibly source data off the platters at higher than a momentary bursts of up to 125MBytes/sec, or about 1.0Gbits/sec. That means SATA-I speed is not a bottleneck.
A few drives are faster, and some SSD drives are faster.
Many drives available today are capable of transfers at up to 6Gbits/sec.They will operate correctly at the Mac Pro's 3Gbits sec Bus speed. But since they cannot produce data from the drive platters at those speeds, you get at most a tiny, momentary burst at that speed.
6Gbits/sec is far higher than other bottlenecks in the drive. There is no point in paying extra for this spec, as the drive cannot achieve it steady-state, and it provides no measurable advantage. I refer to such practices as "specsmanship". Feel free to read "cr@p".

ProBook 6465b - does it support SATA III?

I have ProBook with A6-3410MX on AMD A60M FCH, which should has only 6Gbps SATA. But my friend has the same ProBook with A4 on the same chipset, and he's bought Crucial m4 SSD and benchmarks results show that it is only SATA II (3Gbps). Can anybody confirm that 6465b support or not 6Gbps SATA?

Have a look at the write speed. My SATA II Corsair has the same write speed like the SATA III M4 256GB and 512GB. Reading is just 415MB/s (my has approx 275MB/s) for all of them. I would expect a better read/write performance from a SATA III SSD..

Does Satellite Pro C850-1EQ support Sata III?

I've just picked up a new Satellite Pro C850-1EQ laptop, and am looking to replace the slow 5400rpm drive with an SSD.
I can't find the SATA specifications of this machine anywhere - does it support Sata III (6Gb/sec)?

As far as I know it supports the SATA II (3Gb/s)
But you could install some software diagnostic tools like *SiSoft SANDRA*
This would provide all details about the hardware configuration.
Could you confirm that its SATA II?

Please see the "HP Pavilion g7 Notebook PC Maintenance and Service Guide" for the technical specification of your computer. It appears that the computer supports SATA, but no exact information is given. The is most likely SATA version based on an AMD A60M chipset would be SATA3.
