Does WiFi stay connected when charging iPhone

I've noticed lately that when I wake my iPhone from standby when it is plugged into a power source (charger or usb on my computer) that the WiFi connection is already there (the phone has been on standby overnight in the case of the charger). I get the impression that the iPhone is maintaining the WiFi connection when it has external power, but have not seen any references to this behavior. I have noticed this since at least 3.1, don't remember if earlier or not.
My iPhone is up to date with OS 3.2.1.
This is not a problem, just curious if anyone else is seeing this behavior?

Just wanted to throw what I have seen in. I have an AEBS in my house. When my phone is in low power mode with screen dark and I wake it up, the symbol moves from 3G to Wi-fi symbol. When I open my Airport Utility, it shows me the number of users. Unless I actually have Safari on the iphone open and running, it only shows one user (my MBP). When I open Safari on my iphone, then I show 2 users. If I close Safari, it moves back to one user...

  • Iphone does not stay connected to wi-fi.

When using apps or when in sleep mode my iphone does not stay connected to my wi-fi. All other items within the house have no issues with staying connected to my wi-fi.

By design, when entering sleep mode, the iPhone will disconnect from WiFi to conserve battery. If you want the WiFi connection to remain persistent, plug your phone into a power source.

  • WiFi does not stay connected after latest upgrade

I am having an issue with the WiFi connection on my Iphone 4 after the latest 4.3 upgrade.
It does not stay connected to the wifi. I have to go and manually connect to it.
Then after a couple of seconds it loses it again.
    Why is this

"I'm not sure why yours is doing it but I would suggest your reboot your router and reset the iPhone network settings.
If you are hiding your SSID, do the last step which is tap Settings > WiFi > Other and completely re-enter your network name, security, and network password."
Been there, done that... Did ALL these steps, but that does not fix the problem... AFTER inputting the SSID manually, selecting security, and then the password, iPhone STILL says it cannot connect...

  • Iphone 4 does not stay connected to my network

Since upgrading to 6.1, my iPhone 4 does not stay connected to my network.  I have to input my password each time I leave my house.  My other devices stay connected, so the issue is with the upgrade.  Has anyone found a way to keep their IPhone connected to their network?  Thanks.

I don't have another phone to try. I took out the sim to check for deffects but it looked fine. Cleaned the sim card with alcohol and cleaned the aim compartment. Phone didn't loose Internet connection all day yesterday, but this morning went to check emails and wouldn't update until I turned airplane mode on then off again.

  • Why won't my wifi stay connected with lion

I recently installed lion on my imac.  Why won't my wifi stay connected after I shut it down

This has been well discussed on another thread here: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3191630?start=2055&tstart=0
(There appear to be no moderators on these forums to make sure that new threads with the same topic don't get linked to a parent !?)
Anyway... The issues appear for many to be related to a specific Airport card type & firmware version.
I've had constant disconnect problems with my Mini since upgrading to Lion.
    My Airport card specs are:
Card Type:                              AirPort Extreme  (0x168C, 0x86)
      Firmware Version:                    Atheros 5424: 2.1.14.9
Connecting to my Time Capsule distributing on:
              PHY Mode:          802.11a
The Atheros firmware version appears to be the issue depending on certain wifi network conditions.
After some playing about today I think I've managed to force my Mini to connect on a better frequency, without having to roll back the firmware to the Snow Leopard version or mess with the Mini Airport card settings (via Terminal) by changing some settings in my router (Time Capsule).
These are the changes I made:
Airport Utility > Wireless > Wireless Options
    Set Radio Mode to 802.11 a/n - b/g instead of 802.11 a/n - b/g/n (Automatic)
Set 2.4 GHz Channel to 13 instead of Automatic
Set 5GHz Channel to 48 instead of Automatic
    My Mini now connects on:
    PHY Mode:          802.11g
    Signal / Noise:          -64 dBm / -96 dBm
    Transmit Rate:          54
    instead of previously
    PHY Mode:          802.11a
    Signal / Noise: -73 dBm / -96 dBm
    Transmit Rate: 36
This appears now to be stable (no drops in the last 4 hours). It's a low transmit rate still, but better than before.
The iMac is still connecting on
    PHY Mode:          802.11n
    Signal / Noise:          -69 dBm / -88 dBm
    Transmit Rate:          216
and all is right with the world (hopefully for the long term)

  • HT4623 I want to purchase a ipad 32gb in the larger size but have read many bad reviews that the wifi does not stay connected and I don't want to have to buy another data package as I already own an iphone that i pay data for, what are my concerns

I want to purchase an ipad 32gb in the larger size buy have read many bad reviews that they have problems staying connected to wifi.  I don't want to have to buy a data package so I only want the wifi one.  I already pay apple for my iphone data and I can't afford more money.  Why are there so many bad reviews and are the newer ones that much better, according to many reviews they are not. Please help

I already pay apple for my iphone data
You pay your carrier for data, not Apple.
Why are there so many bad reviews
Where? Regardless, there are always going to be a handful of people having some sort of issue with any given device, but I would not therefore assume that you would be one of them.

  • TS1398 iPhone will not connect to wifi hotspot even when other iphones at the same loaction does.

I have been to serveral malls and restaurants that have free wifi.  I can connect using my iPad.  Other around me can connect with there iPhones.  My iPhone4s goes to the login screen, which is blank.  After a couple of minutes, it errors out and says "Hotspot login could not open ....".  What is interesting, is that on the devices that do connect, the login screen is not blank and it says it is trying to connect to 192.168.33.1.  My iPhone states it is trying to connect to iBook.info or appleiphonecell.com.  What the heck is going on? This happened on iOS 6 and now on iOS7.

Not a personal hotspot problem.  I have never used this feature nor want to.

  • Iphone wifi dropping connection when locked

all in the title but, when locked it forgets the wi-fi password, and so i have to re enter it.
    iphone 4
belkin wireless n router with wpa passphrase.

Are you hiding your network identification (SSID)?  If you are doing that, it is a pretty common complaint.  In either case, the fix is about the same:
    Fix 1
When you are connected to your network, tap Settings > WiFi > and then tap the blue ">" next to the network name with the check mark.
The next screen will give you your connection information.  Scroll until you find "Forget this Network" and tap that.
That should return you to the Settings > WiFi page.  Tap Other, and then re-enter your network name, security, and network password.
    Fix 2
tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset Your Network Settings
When the iPhone restarts, tap Settings > WiFi > Other and re-enter your network name, security, and network password.
Fix 3 - if all else fails
Reboot your router (uun plug it from it's power source).

  • 58L7300U - Wifi does not stay connected

Comcast cable using a Xfinity branded ARRIS TG862 Wireless SOHO Router.
Two Toshiba 58L7300U TVs mounted on walls in residence.
LAN is setup and stable.  The Router has been properly configured using WPA2 AES encryption.  All computers (Apple, Microsoft Surface, Dell and Toshiba) access WiFi with no problems.  All Smart Phones access WiFi with no problem.
The two Toshiba 58L7300U -  they have a problem.  Even PC Magazine has noted the issue in their test lab.
    http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2428099,00.asp
"The 50L7300U supports Wi-Fi networking, but the set was unable to stay connected to any of our wireless access points here in the labs. It saw each access point and would connect for a brief moment, but each time it would lose the connection. The wired LAN connection worked perfectly, however."
We've been through every possible setup.  I was on the phone with Toshiba for 2 hours and they finally capitulated there was a problem.
Both TVs were purchased just prior to Chistmas 2013.  They both have software version 7.2.67.31.01.1 (5/22/14).
If we get the TV to access WiFi I can use PING -T to ping the TV IP address.  Yet the TV would say it can't get a connection.  It is on the LAN.  It has a TCP/IP stack and it can been seen from the POV of the Router and can be seen by another computer on the LAN.
One TV could get access, for a while.  It could access Pandora and YouTube content.  Then it LOST the ability out of the blue.  Othertimes the TV would see the SSID and from the Router POV I would enable WPS and then have the TV do a "scan".  Then it  it would say it can't find an Wireless Access Point.  I have done setups via;  manual, assisted and use WPS.
All I can say is that there is a BUG in the software of the 58L7300U in accessing a Wireless Fidelity networks and for a $1,000 per TV that's atrocious.
Personally, I'd hard wire the units but the owner doesn't want that.
The owner spent $2K, and wants the product to properly access WiFi.

If you are having WiFi problems it is necessary to isolate whether the problem is with your network or your iPhone. Note: Do NOT consider your network to be blameless if some other devices can connect to it.
First, test your iPhone on some other WiFi networks: work (apparently has problems), a friends, Starbucks, Barnes & Noble, etc.
If it works well there then the problem is probably with your network. Try restarting your WiFi router by removing power for 30 seconds. If that does not help check for a firmware update for your router. If none exists which corrects the problem consider replacing the router.
If your iPhone does not function well on other networks it possibly has a hardware problem. You could try Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings to see if that corrects the problem. If not, contact Apple Support or visit an Apple store for evaluation. They can provide a replacement if your iPhone is bad.
If you need more help please give the make, model, and version of your WiFi router and how you have it configured.

  • Does not stay connected to wifi - Solved

Over the holiday I got an iPad Mini and iPhone 5. On both devices my wifi disconnects often, especially when put into lock mode. I had to keep re entering password to reconnect, very annoying.
I read the discussions and had a thought to solve it. This fix works on both my iPhone and iPad.
Go to your wireless settings and disconnect. Then select any other network, one that you do not want to connect to.
Connect to the random wifi network and when prompted enter a password. Just make up any combination Of letters and numbers until the join button pops out in blue. Click join.
Obviously it will fail and tell you the password is incorrect. Back out and now connect to your wifi network.
That's it, problem solved. Both my iPad and iPhone now automatically reconnect to my network when I unlock device.

    Try resetting your network settings:
Go to Settings - General - Reset - Reset network settings   and see if that solves the issue. If it doesn't:
Backup the device and restore it as new.
    In that case, use: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4137
NB: set up as a NEW device because a software issue will be in the backup. If the issue persists after restoring as new, with multiple networks, you should offer the device for service.
If you get specific error messages/codes in iTunes when updating/restoring, check this: http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3694 for causes and solutions
    Good luck

  • IPhone 4 does not stay connected to internet over 3G+

I have an iPhone 4 on the telus network running the latest version of the os 4.3.3. My phone will not stay connected to the Internet most of the time. It looses connection and won't reconnect until I turn on airplane mode and then turn it back off. It also looses connection if I have wifi on and it detects a network but choose not to connect to it. I have restored my phone and it fixed the problem for half a day before it started again. I only have a couple months warranty left, is this covered do you think?

I don't have another phone to try. I took out the sim to check for deffects but it looked fine. Cleaned the sim card with alcohol and cleaned the aim compartment. Phone didn't loose Internet connection all day yesterday, but this morning went to check emails and wouldn't update until I turned airplane mode on then off again.
