Does Windows 7 "System Builder" work on a Mac?

I'm trying to find the cheapest way to get Windows 7 to work on both a Macbook Pro (2010 model) and Mac Pro (2008 model). I understand I need to buy two different copies of Windows, but the full retail version is so expensive!! Would the "System Builder" editions work? I've read that the System Builder attaches itself to the motherboard of the first computer on which it's installed and can't be transfered to another computer, but that's fine because Mac motherboards can't be changed anyway. So...is the System Builder edition compatible with Mac, and is it OK for audio performance and all that? I'm trying to set up DAWs running Cakewalk Sonar software. Thanks!

  • Will Windows 7 OEM/System builder work with bootcamp?

    Hello,
I have a early 2009 Mac Pro 2.26x2. I want to install windows 7. Will windows 7 Professional 64bit OEM/System builders edition work with my mac and boot camp, or do I need the full retail version? The OEM system builder edition is much cheaper than the retail version. Later on I may build a core i7 kit PC as a dedicated game machine, would I be able to use the same copy of WIndows 7 64bit OEM/System builder, or would I have to buy another copy for the kit PC? Thanks very much.
    -Eric

    Hi Eric,
recently installed Win7 systems builder version without issues.
System builder versions aren't originally boxed, manuals and MS phone support is not included.
Be aware that Home Premium is limited to only 1 physical cpu (unlimited cores), Professional and Ultimate support 2 physical cpu (Had to learn this the hard way).
If you buy a PC later on without preinstalled OS, you officially will have to buy another copy (or family pack) of Win7.

  • Build a application in windows system and run it in MAC OS

    Hello,
I have built a labview application in windows system. I would like to run it in MAC OS. How can I make it?
I tried to install the labview run time for MAC OS into the computer and run the application, but it cannot be runnable.
I don't know if possible to run a labview application in MAC OS, which is built in windows system.

    Hi Jimmy,
nope. LabVIEW doesn't have an inbuilt cross compiler (atleast not for Win vs MacOS)...

  • Does Windows 2008 Server run ok under Mac Mini Bootcamp?

Does anyone have any experience of installing and running Windows 2008 Server on a Mac Mini (of which has either Mac OS or Mac OS Server installed), under Bootcamp?
I currently have an old Dell with Windows 2008 server which acts as my Domain Controller, Exchange Server for a small home-office network. It's due an upgrade as the hardware is so old (and noisy!) and like the idea of having a nice compact, quiet Mac Mini, but want to make sure it can carry out the same duties under bootcamp on Win2008?

Windows 2008 can be installed in Boot Camp.  However I don't believe it is officially supported by Apple so there may or may not be issues with installing the Boot Camp Drivers (or future updates to the Boot Camp drivers.)  Not something I'd be recommending for a "production" environment.  If this is a test/dev system, then probably worth trying, depending on how critical your network uptime is.
Also, you didn't mention if your Dell came with Windows 2008 preinstalled, but if it did, then likely it has a "branded" version of Windows that won't activate correctly on non-Dell hardware.  (If your Windows disks have "Dell" on them, they won't work with the Mac.)  So you may need to purchase a retail or volume license copy of Windows 2008.
In general, for a server running as a DC & Exchange, you'd want RAID1 as a minimum so that would be the Mac Mini Server, not the "desktop" Mac Mini.  Unless you have one lying around, you're looking at something around $1500-$2000 to start, depending on whether you can transfer your existing Windows 2008 & Exchange installations.  (Another $500-$2000 depending on what vesions of Windows & Exchange.)  And probably 8GB of RAM since Windows 2008 & Exchange on 4GB is pushing it.  Considering the costs, I suggest you look at the Dell T110 series or the HP Proliant 110 series.  Both lines are very quiet and are supported for Windows 2008 from the factory, including Windows Small Business Server, which includes Exchange.  While not as small as a Mac Mini, they are mini towers and about the size of a typical PC desktop.
If you really wanted a small footprint, then HP has a "microserver" series.  You'd probably need to call HP to get the build you want as the online ordering is limited for that model.  From Dell, there is the Zino model desktop.  Again, not supported for a "server", but you were going to consider a the non-server version of the Mac Mini, then the Zino has at least a chance of you reusing your existing versions of Windows if they're Dell branded, thus saving your something in the range of $500-$2000 for new software.  (But I would NOT recommend a non-server chassis without RAID1 hard drives, so the Zino is not my choice.  I just offer it as a possibility if you accept the risk of an unsupported installation, as would have been installing Windows 2008 in Boot Camp.)
So yes, it will work.  But I wouldn't recommend it for a production environment, especailly if you have the "desktop" computer without RAID1.

  • Does Mighty Mouse only work with desktop Macs??

I just bought an Apple Wireless Mighty Mouse, assuming it'd work with my new Leopard OS X Macbook. I followed the instructions on the Mighty Mouse booklet...but no installation start-up window ever appeared. I'm a beginner with Apple, so I figure I've done something wrong....does the Mighty Mouse only work with desktop Macs and not MacBooks?
    Please help if you can.

Ah! sorry, my mistake! "wireless" was the key word. And yes, prior to my new mighty mouse, I also used the wireless one. And you need to do the following:
    1) Turn bluetooth ON (either from finder icon (you can have it placed on your finder bar by tick box in sytem preferences/bluetooth.
    2) Then, you need to "pair" your mouse via bluetooth setup assistant.
    3) once "paired" off you go.

  • Can anyone suggest a Lightscribe system that works with the mac?

I bought a LaCie Lightscribe drive. I got it home and was excited because everything was supposed to be plug and play for the Mac. It wasn't. I installed the driver and downloaded the interface to print to the disc. Everything looked like it would work as most stuff does on a Mac --easy.
But when I got to the print dialog box -- it said it couldn't find the drivers. I re-installed, updated, tried different cords, rebooted, rebooted the drive, tried a different interface. It was frustrating because the drive recognized the DVD and tried to let me watch the video in iDVD and Toast recognized the drive.
But when I got ready to print--no drive.
Anyhow, after talking to tech support I boxed it up to send it back to LaCie. Now I am wondering if there is a lightscribe system that will work with a Mac. Anybody have any success stories?

    Hi MHaddox
And welcome to apple discussions. LaCie is actually one of the better S-Drives for mac in terms of an external burner (at least from reading this forum). However, I haven't seen too much posted in terms of the Lightscribe feature itself. Perhaps one or more of these links will help (if not just come on back):

There seems to be a block with the Internet server in the United States as other Internet and cell servers i.e. Verizon and Century-Link DSL work with Mac, Andriod and PC. It just seems to be Mac on Comcast that is not...
Without more data I'm inclined to say it's more likely to be Comcast itself, rather than 'Macs on Comcast'.
For example, do other devices (PCs, Android, iOS) on that Comcast network also have problems connecting? or do they connect fine?
I'd expect that any device at that network has a problem, which indicates a problem with Comcast. It might be their DNS not resolving properly, or them not routing data correctly, but that should be your focus.
Perform a DNS lookup on the www.gordonbennett2012.ch hostname. What result do you get? Is it the expected address?
If that returns the right address, what do you get with a traceroute?
That will test the routing befween your system and the server, and may indicate other problems on the network.

  • I have some expensive programs that work with windows, would they work with the Mac

I have always had windows and I have some expensive programs that I like to work with and was wondering if they would work on the IMac.  I have been considering changing for years but someone said my programs wouldn't work with Mac.  I have IPods, IPad and IPhones, so I am a little familiar with Apple

No, not unless you install Windows on the Mac.
A Windows app needs Windows. An OS X app needs OS X.
You can install and run Windows and Windows apps natively on an Intel Mac.

  • Why does itunes freeze up windows/PC but work fine on mac?

Yes itunes is apple but why make it so bad on PC and fine on mac? not everyone has the money for mac. And school wise windows is much easier than mac. One of my friends is stupid enough to rely on pages for everything but when we need to use excel or publisher she cant figure out how to do things so she either goes to the library in precious sleep time before school, or during lunch and recess, etc; OR she uses my laptop before school which I find quite annoying moving it from my morning mess down to another room. Seriously if Apple is trying to get more people to buy macs ITS NOT F*CKING WORKING!!!! It's just making me ****** at having to wait 10 hours and lose most of my sleep trying to do a recovery of my ipod coz it took too long to sync and kept stuffing up my laptop. And now i cant have any decent games because it will freeze up my perfectly fast and relativly new laptop (few months old). This also happens on all other windows in my household and my friends also complain. BTW I am not a noob. I'm actually really good with technology and gaming though my appearance suggests otherwise.

Around these parts - yes resync is a word.
The waiting icons are appearing in the iPad correct? If so, finish the downloads in iTunes on your computer and then try to sync the apps. Don't connect the iPad when you do this - just try to finish the downloads in iTunes.
Where can you see your music? In the music app itself on the iPad?

  • Why does my WD Passport work on my Mac but Not on my PC?

So i just bought a MacBook Pro and I have been a PC user forever. This is my 1st time owning a Mac and Im not sure if this is my bad or an issue with the hard drive... So heres what happened... I have a 160 GB WD Passport and I had it Windows formatted originally. When I got my MacBook Pro I decided to reformat the drive to use exclusively for data transfers of large files between my MacBook and my Windows desktop PC. I'm very computer savvy and have been building PC's for years now and as far as I can tell I formatted the drive into the correct format. I used my MacBook to do the formatting and using Disk Utility I erased and reformatted the drive into FAT as thats the only format thats the utility allows that is windows compatible. After I did that I made sure the drive was partitioned correctly and all was working on the MacBook. I was able to read and write file to the drive using the MacBook with no issues. When I went to plug the drive into my Windows PC the drive would not be recognized at all. The light on the drive turns on and just blinks on and off once every second or so. So now that you know the situation I guess the question is... Did I do something wrong? How do I fix this so the Hard Drive will be compatible on both Operating systems? if any body know the answer to this please help me because I cannot figure this out for the life of me. Thank you in advance for your help.

    Hi and welcome to Discussions,
sounds to me like when you reformated the harddisk with Disk Utility the GPT (GUID Partition Table) was used.
Check with Disk Utility to verify.
Windows can not see/use harddisk that are using GPT.
If possible, reformat the harddisk with Disk Utility, use MS-DOS (=FAT32) and use the 'Options' to set the partition table to be MBR (Master Boot Record).
(Caution, this deletes everything that is on that harddisk
That way both OSX and Windows can use the harddisk.
You are aware that with FAT32 you have a single-file size limitation of around 4GB.
    Regards
    Stefan

  • Why does Acrobat suddenly not work on my Mac (won't open pdf files from a web page), yet I can open them from my iPhone? Everything worked fine yesteray.

    Hello:
I have a Mac running OS 10.8.5 and I use Acrobat Pro and Acrobat Reader. Today for some reason, any time I try and access a pdf file from a web page, it won't open. I get a blank window. PDF files already on my computer open fine and I can create PDF files from Word docs, but I can't download or view any pdf file from any web page. Strangely, PDF files on web pages open just fine on my iPhone.
I checked that both my copy of Acrobat Pro and Acrobat Reader are up-to-date. They are.
I checked that my copy of Firefox is up-to-date. It is. And nothing changed with Firefox within the last 24 hours.
I am a humble computer end-user. I am baffled as to why this would suddenly not work. I have not changed any settings, etc. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you.
I checked your instructions you sent and as far as I can tell all of my settings, etc for Firefox (plugin updates and preferences) are correct but I am having the same problem.
However, everything works in Safari. I don't have time to attempt to diagnose why Firefox no longer works. I will just switch to Safari.
    Many thanks.
