Does WLC release 7.6 support internal DHCP when AP and client SSO is configured?
Hi,
I currently have 5508 WLCs running on release 7.6 and they are to be configured in 1:1 HA mode. Would like to know if internal DHCP is supported if AP and client SSO is to be configured.
Thanks in advance.
Unfortunately, till date no AirOS release supports Internal DHCP when AP SSO is configured.
For details, check HA Deployment Guide. It says following :
"Internal DHCP is not supported when SSO is enabled."
-Thanks

Internal dhcp with anchor and foreign
Greetings,
trying to get dhcp going for guest clients.
I can see dhcp requests coming through and getting dropped at the foreign controller.
*DHCP Socket Task: Aug 10 16:19:54.075: 58:94:6b:1d:xx:yy DHCP received op BOOTREQUEST (1) (len 308,vlan 0, port 13, encap 0xec03)
*DHCP Socket Task: Aug 10 16:19:54.075: 58:94:6b:1d:xx:yy DHCP dropping packet
Could someone tell me;
1. why would the DHCP requests processed by the foreign controller instead of the anchor ?
2. do i need to configure dhcp server under the guest WLAN interface on foreign?
I thought all L3 and security stuff is forwarded over eoip to anchor and therefore no need to configure the DHCP server under foreign.
I'm trying to utilise the internal DHCP server (firmware 7.0.220) but so far its not going well.
Thanks,
silvaHi All,
Steve you got me thinking and thanks to the debugs you provided, I managed to fix the issue. The problem was caused by local EoIP tunnel that was configured on the foreign and thus traffic was not getting forwarded.Strange thing I can't remember configuring that as it was not required.Anyway after I removed it, all worked as expected. I'm using internal DHCP and so far it is is working fine as well.
With the ACLs, for guest WLAN, do we neded to configure for both foreign and anchors so that the WLAN configs are identical?
Does not make any sense to me to configure the ACLS on the foreign but can someone confirm?

We are announcing a new Business Catalyst release, scheduled to go live on Thursday, May 3rd. With this release, we are continuing our investments in system performance and stability by increasing our web servers capacity, enabling HTTP acceleration to provide faster site loading times, and improving the site creation speed by using pre-generated sites.
On the product side, we have completely revamped our partner support workflow taking advantage of the Adobe support infrastructure and tools, enhanced the site templates workflow for partners, and included lots of bug fixes and improvements. Read through the following sections to get detailed information about this release:
Partner support
Infrastructure updates

Issues fixed by this release
What's next
You can jump to the corresponding section by clicking the above links.
Partner support
Updated Help & Support partner experience
Following Adobe ID support, we have upgraded BC support tools (cases, chat, documentation) with standard Adobe tools. As a partner, you can now benefit from the same support tools as the rest of Adobe Creative Suite, and can track your support cases with Adobe BC, Dreamweaver, Muse or Photoshop in a single place.
Partners with more than 100 paid sites will get 2nd level chat support, which includes a higher priority, by default. If you have more than 100 paid sites, but spread across different Partner Portals, please ask support to enable 2nd level chat for you.
Support experience for your Small Business owner clients can now be owned by partners (see below).
Custom Help & Support URL for your clients
As a partner, you are probably already offering various additional services to your clients besides building & maintaining their BC site. Support, tailored specifically to your client needs, is usually one of these value-added services. We are now enabling you to take your Support service to the next level. In Partner Portal Settings, you have the option to set a custom URL for what will open when your client clicks on Help & Support inside Admin Console:
If you have multiple partner accounts, for different verticals, you can specify a Support URL for each of these.
The default Support experience provided by BC for your clients will be updated in a few releases to be similar to the partner support experience. This includes BC-branded support cases and documentation. If you'd like to keep a white-label experience for your customers, please set your own Help & Support URL in Partner Portal.
For more details please read the Improved support workflow and new forums announcement on our blog.
Infrastructure updates
Between our April release and the following infrastructure updates have been enabled
Limited trial sites for free partners – starting with our May release, the number of trial sites a Free Partner can have will be limited to 100. Once the limit is reached, Free Partners that need to create a new trial site have the options to upgrade to a higher partner plan, upgrade some of the trial sites to paid or delete unused/expired trials.
Automatic trial expiry extension - with this release, trial site expiry date will be automatically extended with 30 days every time an admin user logs in the system through the admin interface or through FTP.
Installed additional hardware - we have installed additional web servers on all our data centers, that translate into an increase of the existing capacity with over 70%.
Updated DNS infrastructure - we have improved the DNS resolution for email delivery so that we can increase the rate at which we're sending the system operational emails
HTTP acceleration – all sites static assets are served from a new cache engine (images, CSS and JavaScript files, together with improved headers that should allow the browser to cache them better for a browsing session). This update has been turned on along with our April release, and has made all the BC sites load faster on first and on subsequent loads.
Accelerated site/partner creation – we've changed the way new sites are created for faster speed, pre-creating them and reusing pre-created sites when needed, and have also improved the creation process for new partners, minimizing the impact of new CCM customers on the existing datacenters.
Adobe ID for partners - in order to support an integrating experience between the various Adobe tools a partner may use (Dreamweaver, Muse, Support forums) we have added Adobe ID support for Business Catalyst partner accounts. Starting April 19, partners are asked to merge their current Business Catalyst account with their Adobe ID accounts. For more details about the transition process and FAQ please read the Introducing Adobe ID blog post.
Updated Terms of Use - Along with several other changes in our processes in the past few months, we also revamped our Terms of Use and the signature process by requesting every admin user to sign a TOU. We have completed the rollout for partners, and we might be pushing an updated partner Terms of Use version within the following weeks. For more details and questions about this change, read the New Terms of Use for Business Catalyst blog post.
Features and enhancements
Site templates
To support the increasing number of partners building, sharing or reusing templates to create new sites, we're extending our site templates support from our partner portal with a new template type and improved management support. The update is going to enable partners to mark sites as templates and choose between making them available in Online Business Builder and keeping them private in their partner portal. A template site will not expire and has the same limits as any other trial site.
Based on your partner level, you can create private or public templates using the Site Details screen or the Tools>My Site Template section from your Partner Portal. Standard partners can only create private templates, while Free Partners can only view site templates that have been transferred to their accounts by other partners.
The number of templates a partner will have will be limited and will vary based on partner level: free partners can store up to 5 templates in their partner portal, standard partners have up to 100 site templates while Premium Partners might have up to 200 templates. Paid sites marked as templates are not counted against these limits.
Business Catalyst Partner fixes
While we are really focused on making the Business Catalyst integration into Creative Cloud a smashing success, we are slowly resuming our efforts to deliver fixes that have been requested by our partners. This release includes the following partner fixes:
Improved product custom fields - we have increased the maximum number of characters for product custom fields to 1024 (previous limit was 256); this gives partners and customers additional space to use when working with products
Improved Secure Zone subscribers list - we have added the customer email address in the Secure Zone Subscribers list to enable partners better filter and manage customers
Better experience when exporting data - to prevent customer confusion when exporting data from Mac computers, we have removed the export to excel option and exporting in CSV format by default.
Social plugins integration updates
Starting with our May release, we are updating the social plugins support to require users to get the plugin code from the third party provider and saving into his Business Catalyst website. The module tags and configuration will remain unchanged, but will render an empty tag until the partner or site owner will update the module template to include the corresponding module code snippet from the third party platform provider.
For more information about how you can enable the Social Plugins on a Business Catalyst websites, read the Social Media: Integrating Facebook and Twitter knowledge base article.
Other changes
Updated weekly emails - Starting with our May release, the information in the site weekly emails has been filtered based on the site's plan. For example, webBasics site reports will no longer include the sales report.
Localization - we improved and increased the coverage of the admin interface translations into German, French and Japanese
Site Settings -> Ignored IP addresses has been relocated under Reports -> Visitors -> More.
BC-Dreamweaver integration performance improvements
Development Dashboard has been removed, as it didn't provide a clear useful, ongoing benefit. The information present in the development dashboard has been integrated into our new Help & Support section.
Payment gateway settings - for more privacy and data protection, we have updated the Payment Gateway configuration screens to obfuscate the sensitive login information. Fields that have been obfuscated are now requiring confirmation.
Report abuse badge on trial sites - for compliance reasons, a "Report Abuse" link has been added to the front-end of all trial sites of free partners that don't have any paid sites. When they click the Report Abuse link, site visitors are redirected to a form submission page on businesscatalyst.com site.

What's next
The first item on the what's next list might not be news for many of you, but it's definitely one of the most important milestones this year. The Creative Cloud launch is just around the corner, and Business Catalyst is playing an important role in that, as the publishing platform for Adobe® Muse and Dreamweaver. This launch will capture all our attention within the next weeks as we want it to be our best ever.
We'll start our next development cycle on May 15th, while the next Business Catalyst release is going to be pushed live in mid June. That being said, the following items are already on our launch plan for the next release and a few more will join the list. Please expect an update on our 2012 plans around mid May.
HTTP throttling – all page load and API calls to BC will be protected against attacks, this might trigger problems for API heavy sites. We are looking into enabling this update along with our June release, and will help make sure that a reasonable number of requests will be accepted from the same computer per minute.
Automatic site deletion - Starting with the June release, we are going to start automatically delete expired trial sites and canceled sites. Customers will be notified twice before we are going to proceed with deleting the sites.
Thank you,
Cristinel Anastasoaie
Adobe Business Catalyst Product ManagerIn reference to this change in the Custom Reports... Better experience when exporting data - to prevent customer confusion when exporting data from Mac computers, we have removed the export to excel option and exporting in CSV format by default.
What is the customer confusion we are trying to stop here? I've got even more confused customers at the moment because all of a sudden they can't find the export to excel option but know it exists if they log in on a PC?

Does WLC 5508 (7.2) support PEAP to MS radius?
Hi,
I'm running version 7.2.111.3 on my WLC 5508 and I try to figure out how I can set PEAP towards my configurerd Radius servers.
On my Local EAP profile I can specify PEAP, but how is it default configurerd when you just specify the radius servers on the "WLANs > Edit Test > security > AAA servers tab ?
The MS radius logs tell me that it is EAP and not PEAP, so the questions is does the WLC support Microsoft: Protected EAP ???

Thanks in advance,
Michelyou're right +5. looks like it sort of gives more granular selection/priority, if we don't want to use any AAA from global when all the configured AAA on WLAN failed then it will be useful.

check box to enable network user authentication (or accounting), or unselect it to disable this feature. The default value is selected. If you enable this feature, this entry is considered the RADIUS authentication (or accounting) server for network users. Does Final Cut Pro X support TS.BUP, RM.BUP, and TS.VOB Video Files
I would like to know if I can import the named files in my question into Final Cut Pro X.
Thinking about buying it, but want to know before I do.Thanks again Tom Wolsky. I did however download the trial version of Wondershare Video Converter Ultimate for Mac, and it worked very very well. I just discovered that it also supports three professional encoders, Apple Intermediate Codec, ProRes and DNxHD—ensuring maximum editing quality and efficiency when working with iMovie, Final Cut Pro, Adobe Premiere or Avid Media Composer, respectively. For what it's worth, it also can convert a broad range of video formats to these three professional encoding formats easily and quickly. This means an advantage over Apple Compressor 4, which only supports conversion to videos in QuickTime format.
I only tried it because I viewed a video by Chris Pirillo (former TechTV host) and CNN tech correspondent who highgly recommend it for my issue. It's a lockergnome review. I pasted the page link at the bottom if your interested in hearing what they have to say. It's on YouTube, just type in WonderShare. Again thankyou for your time and expertise.

WLC 5508 Internal DHCP server issues
Hi,
I am hoping to get your feedback around the dhcp issues I am facing with Two Centrally Switched Wireless LANs. I have tried to explain the setup and the problems below and would appreciate it if anyone can suggest a solution for the problems I am facing:
The setup is as follows:
- I have a WLC 5508 which has been configured with 4 SSIDs, out of which 2 are using Central Authentication and Switching.
- I have an LWAP connected to the WLC in HREAP mode.
- WLC is configured as the DHCP server for clients connecting to the SSID 'Guest'. For the rest, I am using external dhcp server.
- Only one scope for Guest Interface is setup on the WLC.
Problems:
1. As far as I know, for WLC to act as internal dhcp server, it is mandatory to have the proxy enabled, but the Clients connecting to SSID 'Internet' are
unable to get an ip address from the external dhcp server, if dhcp proxy is enabled on the WLC. If i disable the proxy, it all works fine.
2. DHCP does not release the ip addresses assigned to clients even after they are logged out.
3. If a machine which was earlier connected to 'Guest' SSID connects to the 'Internet' SSID, it requests the same ip it was assigned by the WLC which it was assigned under 'Guest', but gets tagged with the Vlan configured on the management interface.

I have a similar issue where Wireless clients are not receiving automatic addressing from an internal DHCP server. I have multiple interfaces configured on the WLC which are connected to separate VLANS. The manually specified DHCP primary server entry is the same on all interfaces. Some clients are able to authenticate and receive automatic IP configuration but some clients are failing the address assignment process. I have checked connectivity between the WLC and DHCP server, this is confirmed as working. When I carry out a "debug dhcp packet enable", I get the following outputs which seems as if the DHCP discover request from the client is skipped. Your thoughts and inputs on this are appreciated.

BasilThe design in principle is correct, you will need to ensure that there is a way of delivering the controller IP addresses to the access point, either by dns, DHCP option 43 (not support on the internal DHCP server)or by pre staging the APs prior to deployment.
You can use the internal DHCP server for wireless clients by defining itself as the DHCP server address under interface.

Clicked Touchpad does not release.
With lent words from another thread: “Yesterday my touchpad would suddenly act as if I was holding it down, thus dragging stuff around the screen.”
First, a click does not release anymore.
Second I used a mouse and read, that updating the SL may repair this.
Third I updated.
Then: Nor the pad worked, nor the mouse are working.
What to do, please? Re-installing?Karl Pfeiffer (.at) wrote:
It does not help with the pad and disabled the MBP to use a keyboard.
I'm not sure I understand. Did the update make it worse?
Last: I can not boot from the Tiger DVD, not from the (dropped in) Leopard, not from the Snow DVD, not from the internal nor fom an external drive.
Writing controled per Wacom Bluetooth Tablet…
Sorry, I don't understand. You cannot boot from anything except the BT Wacom tablet, but the MBP will work fine with that?
Some keyboard/trackpad issues are caused by the ribbon cable between the battery and the inside of the the battery compartment. Try removing the battery and booting with just the power cord attached, and see if the keyboard/trackpad work this way. -
Does this mean that HP Support Assistance is FAILING?
When running HP Support Assistance / then selecting HP updates / then 'Check for HP updates now', I have the following result.
"Connecting to HP servers = Check Mark"
"Downloading messages and updates defiinition = Gray X"
"Gathering configuration information = Gray X"
"Analysing your system = Gray X"
"Preparing the action list = Gray X"
Does this mean that HP Support Assistance is FAILING? or does it mean that it connected to
HP servers, and determined that No Updates Needed?
Because I was reading it as FAILING and I have uninstalled the version that comes preinstalled, and I have reinstalled the Newest Version (Download file: sp68201.exe)
I run it after reinstalled and I get ALL CHECK MARKS, but if I run it another time I get the same
One Check Mark, and the Rest are Gray X's
http://www8.hp.com/us/en/campaigns/hpsupportassistant/ -Link to Current Latest software...
HP Envy Model: m7-k111dx
Does this mean that HP Support Assistance is FAILING?And its another day.... and yet again I run update and it Has Gray X's ( Which i read as Fails..... ) and so yet again, I uninstall and reinstall HP Support Assistance, and Again it Runs correctly The First Time, and gives me all Green Check Marks,,,,,,,,,,, However I run it again and Back to All Gray X's.
My Conculsion, Support Assistance Runs Correctly on First Run, But Fails there-after.
= HP Support Assistance is broken. -
Can i use Internal DHCP on WLC Guest Anchor (5508) with Foreign HA 5508
DHCP Proxy is required in order to use local WLC DHCP Pool (Guest Anchor), however reading Wireless Q&A (http://www.cisco.com/image/gif/paws/107458/wga-faq.pdf) states that both foreign and guest anchors must have :
In a Wireless guest access setup, the DHCP proxy setting in the Guest Anchor controllers
and the internal controller must match. Else, DHCP request from clients are dropped and you
see this error message on the internal controller......
However if you have N+1 you cannot use internal DHCP, does this also "grey" out the DHCP Proxy global setting? If so will the Guest Anchor still work with a internal DHCP pool even though foreign and guest controllers have a mismatch in DHCP Proxy (global) setting?
Many Thanks
KamWell it should still work... dhcp proxy is required on the WLC that has a dhcp scope. With the newer code versions, you can enable dhcp proxy on a per interface do this doens't have to be global.

WLC 2006 INTERNAL DHCP FOR GUESTS CLIENTS
I would like to use the internal DHCP to issue ipaddress to the guest wireless clients.
However; when i setup the wlc internal DCHP scope and try to connect to the wireless guest vlan the WLC debug DHCP reads ...forwarding to 192.168.255.2 which i have listed as the gateway to the pix
any examples on how to do this would be great.
here is what i have for the dhcp scope:

I would have thought since i was using the interal dhcp that the .1 address would be the dhcp scope address also. i can assign 192.168.255.0 or 192.168.255.2(gateway)if i use .0 or .2 the dhcp request (discovery) process starts and then will forward to .2 (gateway) and never assign an address. the only thing that happens is that the client wireless interface will get 255.255.255.255 for a few seconds then go away.
what i am trying to accomplish is to connect the wlc port 2 directly to a pix 506 which goes to the internet so the guest traffice is not on our vlan.
any other suggestions on guest vlans would be appricated....

WLCs 5508, HA enabled and Internal DHCP
Hi:
Designing a new project for a customer in which a pair of WLC-5508 and a bunch of AP-3602I will be deployed.
Controllers running 7.4 image, and I'd also like to use them as internal DHCP servers for clients in different WLANs
As for the redundancy mechanism I'd go for activating HA (AP-SSO) but I know HA and internal DHCP server can't coexist.
So, my question is: does anyone know if Cisco is thinking of implementing both features in any new version to come? The goal would be the Active controller handing over all leases database in case of active to standby switchover.
Thx!
Juan.As you already know that HA and DHCP both cannot coexist on WLC. Till now there is no plan of cisco to implement this.
