I have a 2009 Mac Pro quad and I am having a few issues with putting it to sleep.
When using a wired keyboard and mouse it sleeps fine.
When using an Apple bluetooth keyboard and Tragic mouse or wireless mighty mouse, it wakes up instantly after is tries to enter sleep.
It does this if I uncheck the "Allow BT devices to wake this computer" option in the BT preferences.
After trashing the com.apple.Bluetooth.plist and rebooting it will sleep fine using the BT mouse/keyboard.
However it reverts back to the instant wake trick soon after.
Any ideas?
Is there any way I can permanently lock the com.apple.Bluetooth.plist so it can not be edited by the "system"
If I change "system" to "read only" and lock it, it reverts back to "read/write" every time I wake or restart.

When you say you lock it are you talking about the lock icon in the lower right hand corner of the Get Info window or the Locked checkbox in the General section of the window? Checking the Locked checkbox in the General section should prevent the System from writing to the file.

You have to export the TBT* Tables to retain the jobs. You can do this with R3trans:

TM doesn't see its backup after migrating to new iMac and restoring system.
TM doesn't see its backup even though it still exists on the HD. I just migrated to a new iMac. After using OS X disc to 'Restore System From Backup' with TM backup it was showing the latest backup attempt had failed. The same disk was highlighted under TM Preferences too. But once I reset it TM began to make a new backup under a new folder/computer name (adding a number to the end). Is there a way to make TM see the existing BU and continue on?

1) iMac6,1 (Late 2006) Intel 2.16 GHz Nvidia OS X 10.5.6
2) iMac8,1 (Early 2008) Intel 2.8 GHz ATI OS X 10.5.4
Perform final backup of iMac #1 with TM and SuperDuper!
Shut down and disconnect.
Hook up iMac #2 and power up.
After OS X intro select 'Transfer from another Mac' with Set Up Assistant (note: this was from the SD! backup).
Everything was selected for transfer; Users, Apps, Network,..etc. (I assumed it would update OS X too).
Transfer complete.
Restart.
Log in.*
* I have both Admin and User account. I noticed things weren't performance was off; log in was slow (Menu Bar items took longer to display, clock too), and generally overall apps,..etc seemed slow. Apps were asking for license and reg info too.
Second attempt (restore system from TM backup):
Startup from OS X 10.5.6 disc.
Erase HD with DU.
Select 'Restore System from Backup'.
Select TM backup.
After that completed, restart computer.
And that brings us to now. Well, sort of.
So what is the proper way to migrate as it were from between two different Intel iMac's? I have to assume I transfered over system files that caused a conflict with the new iMac's HW, correct? What can I do now? I've already performed new backups of both SD! and TM. I didn't think it mattered since either way the backups come from my old system. I'm guessing I should have updated OS X first on the new iMac and only selected User files, Apps, Network settings,.. etc., for transfer, or maybe installed apps fresh. I thought I was doing it correctly.
The new iMac still seems off with performance to me. I've tried performing multiple 'Repair Disk Permissions' too. There are about 32 differing permissions but DU doesn't seem able to repair them as they come up again and again. Here are some examples;

My final attempt to straighten this out is to install from OS X disc fresh (erase/install). Transfer only User files, Network settings, anything pertinent to my Users (email, browser, keychain,..),... and nothing else. Reinstall 3rd-Party Apps. I had to do this before after updating from Tiger to Leopard because it didn't take well.
Any help/insight appreciated. -
There's a black and white striped glitch on the left side of my screen on my Macbook Air! Its happened before and has been an easy fix, usually just restart or turn off my computer but don't know what else to do. Is there anything I can try now? I wont be able to make it to the Apple store until tomorow and would prefer if there was something I could do that didnt cost money, my computers very new and I really need help.

I am trying to find out how to assign files with particular extensions to the appropriate software. At the moment when I create a file using Word it is apparently given the extension .docx but Word doesn't recognise its own files. How do I allocate the extension .docx to Word? There used to be a way of doing it, I think under "Preferences" but I can't seem to find it.

What is the temperature limit of the finger to work on iPhone touchscreen? I'm asking this, because I've noticed that when my finger gets too warm (about 104oF) the screen of my iPhone 5 doesn't recognize its touch. Thank you.
I understood. Emphasizing that this is still a guess, when you touch the screen it compares your fingerprint at that time to the one you originally recorded. The fact that the finger is warmer may have a small effect on the fingerprint making it appear different than the original colder one. Temperature differences cause things to expand and contract and that may be having an effect on the comparison. You could try recording a fingerprint after doing what you are doing and then see if it will be recognized when you do the same thing to log into the phone. I know that prior to iOS 7.1 for a few minutes after I would wash my hands the phone had difficulty recognizing the fingerprint. Don't know if it was temperature or moisture that caused the temporary change induced by the hand washing. That improved with version 7.1 I think.

Which version of operating system are you running? Please go to Apple in menu bar, click on 'about this Mac" and click on the numbers under the big Mac OS X until you see "version 10.x.x" - copy what it says and post it here please.

Bridge doesn't recognize its own .xmp files
Using Bridge CS3 on Mac OS 10.5.8. I edit RAW (.nef) files in ACR. When I click done, save, or open image, an .xmp sidecar file is generated and saved in the same folder as the .nef. However, changes made in ACR do not show in the preview thumbnail in Bridge, and when I re-open the file in ACR, my changes are lost. The .xmp file is still there, it's just not applied. It's like Bridge doesn't know the .xmp file is there. The icons in Bridge indicating altered develop settings or crops do not appear after adjudstments are made. Star ratings made in Bridge remain. When this issue began, it would ignore sidecar files for some images, but not others. It is increasing in frequency, or may now be consistent. (If I open the file into Photoshop or save an image file out of ACR, the changes are applied to the developed image file, they are simply ignored by Bridge in regards to the Raw file.)
Files that were adjusted before the problem began still synchronize with their sidecar files. Looking at the sidecar files in a text editor shows that they contain the adjustments made.
There were no changes in any installations/updates to software or OS at the time of the problem's onset.
I've tried using a Camera Raw database instead of sidecar files, and the changes are still lost. I've tried purging caches for Bridge and for ACR. I've tried resetting and dumping preference (.plist) files.
Anyone have ideas on what I can do to salvage this program as my RAW library manager?Matthew,
Same problem here. But I'm using CS5 in Win7.
Bridge cannot find its XMP files. Bridge does not see its XMP files. XMP files do not work. Camera Raw settings do not show in thumbnails. ACR settings lost.
I just now figured out the problem/solution.
In my case, the association between CR2 files and Bridge was usurped by Canon DPP (the Canon raw converter) which I just installed this afternoon. When I installed it, there was no immediate problem. But when I started a new work session tonight, Bridge acted as if the XMP files weren't even there.
Solution: In Windows, to set a file association, you just right-click on a file (in this case the CR2 file) and select "Open With", and then navigate to Bridge (in my case Bridge CS5). That re-establishes the link between Bridge and its own XMP files. Then simply purge your cache and let Bridge rebuild it using its XMPs (which it can now find again) to rebuild the cache with the adjustments that are stored in the XMPs.
I don't know how to do this on a Mac, but the principle is the same.

MPE doesn't do its job well with GTX 470

I recently bough a new pc which i use for video editing with cs5:
Intel Core i7-930 @ 2,8GHz
12gb DDR3
Evga GTX 470 SuperClocked (for my first 2 monitors, Samsung F2380)
Evga geforce 210 (for my third monitor)
128GB SSD / 2TB SATA300 hd's
As i stated above, the GTX 470 is used for my primary and secondary monitors.
When i use premiere with the MPE the results are really not that good: the video image stutters, even with simple tasks like a change in opacity. All bars are yellow, so the MPE is activated - in reality it just doesn't do that much. When i don't use the MPE i can at least render to get a nice picture quality, but when the bars are yellow premiere "thinks" its just all good and i cant render witch results in crappy images again.
How do i solve this ? I just bought a € 3000 computer and now i cant really use it the way i bought it for...
Can someone explain to me how i can use MPE without stuttering ?

mambo88The Power management option in the global 3D settings should be changed from adaptive to Max Performance. Also you want to add the Adobe Media Encoder to the program list in the Nvidia control panel. Beyond that there really isn't anything else you need to change.
Using the card before the 5.0.2 update does not change the performance. The 5.0.2 just overwrites the previous cuda card list file anyway.
One of the main issues I have seen when overwriting the previous video driver is the fan control is messed up for auto and the card gets well over 70C at idle. This will push the card way to hot during MPE use. That can definitely cause the performance problems you are having.

Clip doesn't retain its proper duration
Hi there,
I have a 1 min. 6 sec Quicktime movie that I'm trying to import into Final Cut Pro. My problem is that whenever I try to import it, it doesn't retain the proper duration. It shortens itself to 1 min. and 3 or so seconds.
I've tried restarting FCP and the problem remained. I double-checked the Quicktime movie, and its duration is still 1 min. and 6 sec. I tried deleting the movie's reference in the Browser and re-imported it, but it still only has a 1 min. and 3 or so second duration. I need the rest of that clip.
What's even weirder is that when I make a freeze frame of some part of that clip (after it's been imported into the timeline), for some odd reason, the freeze frame references a later part of the clip (not where I chose to mkae a freeze frame).
I don't know if this will help, but the movie is a credits sequence done in After Effects that I exported to a Quicktime movie using DV/DVCPRO NTSC settings at a very high quality.

"Very high quality" is not helpful. You should have used Animation codec at the same frame rate. Your freeze frame would be easier to build if you did it in AE but, since you're out of time, your credits would be faster to create in FCP using one of the Boris titlers.

Why a folder "Date Modified" doesn't reflect its latest modified files?

I seem to not be the only one trying to find a solution to the following issue.
Let's say you have a folder A, with different files/sub-folders in.
When saving a file, the "date modified" of folder A doesn't update accordingly.
It becomes a real nightmare when you need to backup tons folders and files, as you never know what has truly been modified, unless you dig in and open every single folder each time to check.
For some reason, the folder A only updates its "date modified" when a file has been added or removed.
Or, sometimes for some reason, folder A updates with the last opened, when who cares of that.
I'm working on the latest Imac Intel puchased on dec 2012, with Mac OS X 10.8.4.
If anyone can help, that would be great!

If I understand your situation you have a folder that contains sub-folders that contain files and you want to see which sub-folder has the most recent file in it? Or more likely just find the most recent file.
I would look at using a Finder smart folder to search and display the most recent file in a folder tree. Start the search at the top and just look for the most recent file.
You might also, if you are on Mavericks, use the new tagging feature in some way. Say make a tag 'newest' and apply it to the file you last modify, The drawback here is you would need to remove the tag from the last 'newest' file. Might not be to bad.
