Doesn't load entire library

I can't get itunes to load my entire music library. I don't know if there is a size limit, but the music folder that I have selected is just over 200 GB. The total size across the bottom of my itunes screen says 30.7 GB. I have the folder selected by going to the following: Edit > Preferences > Advanced > iTunes Media folder location. Is there something I'm missing?

iTunes doesn't detect media automatically. You need to add the contents of the folder into iTunes. You can use File > Add folder to library... or a tool like iTunes Folder Watch.

  • ITunes doesn't recognize entire library...

    Hi Everyone,
I recently had a problem with Snow Leopard on my MacBook and ended up having to wipe the partition. I have XP installed through Boot Camp and backed everything up onto an external NTFS formatted drive. I copied my entire iTunes folder to the drive, and now I'm trying to move it back.
The iTunes folder copies just fine, it's around 78GBs and copies the correct amount. I can look through the folder before opening iTunes (I deleted the existing iTunes folder since nothing was in it from the clean install) and all my music, tv shows, etc. is there. Upon opening iTunes everything is listed correctly, but around 3/4s of the songs have the exclamation point next to them asking me to locate the file.
Going back to the iTunes folder under Music shows that most of the media files disappear - I certainly didn't delete them and they were there before iTunes opened.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    -MRCUR

Yes, right after the copy finished I looked through the Music folder (it seems like movies & tv shows are unaffected) and only the As and Bs (of artists) are there. Everything else is gone, but the folder size (of 77.17GB) stays the same throughout the copy and after the files disappear.
That's all very strange isn't it.
I will see if I can do that and re-import all of the music. Is there any way to save my playlists doing so? At this point I don't really care, I'd just rather have the music back on my MacBook.
When you add music to the library in this manner, the playlists are unaffected. The playlists are contained in the library database documents in the itunes folder, which should still be intact. When you add to the library, the library database is updated to reflect new music, but that's it.
That said, if you've tried to play your playlists without the music in the music folder, the playlists may no longer be what they once were.
If you have your library database documents backed up to the external drive you might be able to retrieve them from there if those on your Macbook no longer function. But this would need to happen after you get your music back.
This is tricky stuff that should serve to remind us how important a good backup is.

  • AppleTV2 doesn't see entire library after adding second user - sameID

My wife and I have separate logins on our iMac, but use a shared library for iTunes for storage space reasons. Unfortunately, that introduces subtle differences over time since Apple doesn't really sync between the two logins. For example, she has country music active in her iTunes, I don't. We recently got two AppleTVs and did home sharing. With one of our iTunes doing the share it worked fine to the AppleTV. Once we tried to share both versions of the library to the AppleTV, though, it started missing things. My podcasts don't show up now, and there is a mixture of music now. It is the same on both AppleTVs, so it appears to be something on the Mac itself that needs updating.
I've tried rebooting the systems, enabling and disabling home sharing on all systems, and so on.
What file does the Apple TV use to look at the iTunes Library, and how can it be forced to update it.

Make sure the computer is authorized in iTunes for each login account.

Works with IE, but for some reason the video won't completely load. Don't have access to the right 1/3 of the screen. Can't go full screen, only shows about 1/2 of share button and nothing farther to the right.

    Hey everyone in Apple world!
I figured out how to fix the flashing yellow screen problem that I've been having on my MBP!  Yessssss!!!
I found this super handy website with the golden answer: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379
I followed the instructions on this page and here's what I did:
    Resetting NVRAM / PRAM
    Shut down your Mac.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command (⌘), Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.
I went through the 6 steps above twice, just to make sure I got rid of whatever stuff was holding up my bootup process.  Since I did that, my MBP boots up just like normal.  No flashing yellow screen anymore!!
(Note that I arrived at this solution when I first saw this page: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2570?viewlocale=en_US)
Let me know if this works for you!

Have you copied your content over from your old computer and onto the new on ? If not, and you still have your old computer, then there a number of methods described on this page which you can use to copy your library over : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527 . If you no longer have your old computer then have you got a backup of your content that you can copy onto the new computer and add into iTunes ?

  • Loading entire photos library crashes

The issue is the when I attempt to load my entire photo library from my iMac it crashes and goes back to the home screen.
I am running up to date versions on all OS's and events and smaller albums in iPhoto or individual albums in finder all work fine,
The issue is only when I go to the entire library (about 18000 photos) the screen sits on 'loading' for about a minute and just crashes back to the home screen.
I have started getting the issue on a brand new version 3 device which had been working fine for a week. I reported it to Apple support who think it may be a hardware issue and suggested I should get a replacement from the vendor.
However I also have a version 2 device in the bedroom which having checked yesterday (18th) also shows exactly the same symptoms.
I emphasise the fact that I use this functionality almost daily and it was working fine until last Thu 13 March 2014.
I am Calling Apple TV support again with latest issues today!

    Update
Apple support have been working with me today and the problem is still not resolved. Here's what I've been up to...
Apple suggested I carry out the following:
Press Alt when starting iPhoto and create a new library.
Chuck some pix in the new library and share with AppleTV
RESULT: All worked fine and it would coz I only had 25 pix to view!
Delete old Library and go back to original one.
    Next
Press Alt+Ctrl when starting iPhoto and start a repair process one at a time in the following order...
    Repair Permissions
    Repair Thumbnails
    Repair Database
This took a couple of hours and I still could not load my entire library.
I then decided to re introduce my pix into Home Sharing 5000 at a time...
5000 took 2 mins to load and worked fine.
10000 took 3 mins to load and worked fine
15000 took 4 mins to load and worked fine
19000 took 2 mins to crash!!!
I realise there is a lot of Pix in my library but I have never experienced theses issues before last week. It is without doubt a reduction in service caused by an Apple update.
Getting back in touch with Apple Support....

Sometimes my ipod does not down load my entire library when I sync up with itunes, even if I have items loaded in the play list and can see them in the play list in my itunes when I check my ipod play list some items are missing part 1 will be there but part two is not. Why?????

How is your iPod configured to sync music from your iTunes library?  In other words, what options and configurations do you have enabled from under the iPod's Summary and Music configuration panes in iTunes?

  • Itunes will not load entire music library only random songs to iPhone

My iTunes will only load random songs and not my entire library to my iPhone.

Beatport sells a choice of WAV or MP3. I have bought MP3s from Beatport and they added to iTunes without a problem. Just in case there is something going on with the files, try treating them with a 3rd party tag cleanup program such as MP3 Validator.

  • Can see library but it doesn't load up

I've bought a new laptop and I'm trying to move my itunes stuff from my old laptop to my new one. They're both on the same network currently, sat next to each other on a desk, with the latest version of iTunes open on each laptop. Home sharing is turned on for both laptops and both are authorised on the same account, the account I used to purchase all of the stuff. On my new laptop I currently have no music. When I click on the home sharing symbol on my new laptop I can see the library on my old laptop "aa151000 old library". When I click on it it tries to load the library with the swirling circle loading symbol and after a few seconds it then goes back to my new laptop library, containing no music. When I click on the home sharing symbol again my old library isn't there anymore. I have to close and reopen iTunes for it to show up again, but the same thing happens. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes on my new laptop but that hasn't worked.
    Any ideas?

Update: I have got it to work and I am transferring my files now.
It took over twenty attempts of restarting iTunes and going through the "iTunes has stopped working" problem that comes up half the time but eventually the library showed up properly

  • IPhoto '08 doesn't open my library anymore

I am sure that this is addressed in some earlier post, but I am at my wit's end as to what to do and just need someone to tell me how to fix my problem. Here is the situaion:
I had moved my iPhoto Library to an external HDD, because it was getting too big for my 120 GB HDD (internal). It had been working well enough, and even had it working through a network hub so I could be anywhere in the house with my MacBook and still be able to synchronise and download photos into iPhoto.
For some reason, all of a sudden, last night when I opened iPhoto, it said that my thumbnails needed upgrading. That's the first time I heard of that, but I needed to get to some photos and clicked "Later" as it said that it would take some time and I could always do it later on. Then it just wouldn't load my library. I have a 50.6 GB library, with photos going as far back as 2003, when I first started taking photos. I have my wedding photos in this library. I can't afford to lose it. iPhoto doesn't recognize it, even when I employ the "Choose Library" feature and specify that that is the library I wish to use.
The photos are very much intact, because when I click on "Show Package Contents" after I highlight the library, I am able to see the individual photos and movies in Finder. This is actually the second time that I have had this problem, and I was able to work around it the first time by moving the photos to individual folders on my External HDD, and then access them using Picasa. I like Picasa, but wouldn't mind using iPhoto due to the seamless integration with the rest of Mac world that is my MacBook. Please help me to be able to use iPhoto again with my present library, as I don't know if I can trust it ever again. I am going to move those folders out of my Library, as I need access to them to be able to do what I need to do right now.
Anyone's help will be greatly appreciated.

Try these in order - from best option on down...
    1. Do you have an up-to-date back up? If so, try copy the library6.iphoto file from the back up to the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) allowing it to overwrite the damaged file.
    2. Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
    3. If neither of these work then you'll need to create and populate a new library.
To create and populate a new *iPhoto 08* library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same Events and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, modified versions, books, calendars etc.
In the iPhoto Preferences -> Events Uncheck the box at 'Imported Items from the Finder'
Move the iPhoto Library to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual Event Folders to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library on your desktop.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.
    Regards
    TD
Edit: One other thing: what format is that externa drive? iPhoto needs to have the Library sitting on disk formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled). Users with the Library sitting on disks otherwise formatted regularly report issues including, but not limited to, importing, saving edits and sharing the photos.

  • Edit in Photoshop doesn't load a picture

    Hello,
Last night I was able to edit my photos in PS5 from LR3 by using the Edit in Photoshop menu item.  Nothing that I know of has changed, other then I've finished importing my entire photo library, I can't anymore.  When I select 'Edit in Photoshop" it loads PS5 but it doesn't load the picture I've selected for editing.  Is there a way I can get some logging/debug info out of PS5 or (even better) a known fix for this issue?  I'm up to date with all my software (LR3, PS5, OS X 10.6.3).

I posted a reply a week or so ago here about this. In short, you need to delete the PS preferences file and let PS recreate it. You will lose any custom settings in PS that you have but you can always edit the preferences file and add it back or just redo it from within PS.
    From http://www.gballard.net/psd/troubleshootpurgepsd.html
Keyboard shortcuts to reset Photoshop ImageReady preferences (though I prefer to manually purge preferences to rule out preferences when troubleshooting Photohop crashing, freezing, locking up, Unexpectedly Quits):
    • To delete and re-create the preferences files, start Photoshop or ImageReady and, as it starts, hold down Control+Alt+Shift (Windows) or Command+Option+Shift (Mac OS), and then click Yes to the prompt "Delete the Adobe Photoshop Settings file?" or "Delete the Adobe ImageReady Settings file?" If corrupted files are associated with opening or saving Photoshop files from over across a network disks:
    • Adobe Tech Document: Photoshop, networks, and removable media (7.x and CS2):
    http://www.adobe.com/support/techdocs/322391.html
    • In essence: Copy the file from the server to your local workstation disk, Open the file from your local disk, Save the file to your local disk, Copy the closed file back to the server — never Open or Save Photoshop files across a network.

I just noticed this problem, however it looks like this has been an issue for a while now (possibly since the glibc update?). My entire system is up-to-date, curl itself works fine from the command line. It just appears that there is an issue with this module. Any ideas? Thanks!

I have restarted Apache, but I have not restarted the whole machine (it's a server that's located 4 hours away from me with an intermittent remote superviser card), so it doesn't get rebooted often.
Would a reboot actually solve this issue?

  • Why does iTunes transfer my entire library of music every time I transfer one album or song to my iPhone?

I've lately been having this issue with my iPhone. When I go to transfer a newly purchased album or song from my iTunes library on my Macbook Pro to my iPhone 5 my ENTIRE LIBRARY is transferred to my iPhone. I have it checked so I can manually manage my music and videos in the settings in iTunes when I plug in my iPhone but it still transfers everything. It's really frustrating and I would like for it to not do that. My iPhone doesn't have enough memory to save all 3,000 songs on my phone unless if I had no apps or texts or emails or anything. Is there anyway to get this to stop happening? I've read that if you uncheck all the songs you don't want it won't transfer them but is that the only solution? Its really frustrating having to redelete all the music I don't want off my phone every time it does this.

Go to the music tab, select sync music, select the music to sync and sync.
Have a look at the manual:

  • I can't sync my iPod to entire library

My husband had the first iPod.  We shared an email address.  When he died, I gave his iPod away.  I had been able to sync mine early on, but now I can't add new content or sync the content of the main library.  I'm still using the old email account.  My computer recognizes my iPod, but my iTunes account shows two separate playlists.  The main one with new podcasts won't sync.  I can't figure out how to add new content to the playlist for my iPod.  I can play all the content on the computer.  How can I change settings so I can use the entire library?

The setting for syncing the entire music library is on the iPod's Music settings screen.  If your entire iTunes music library can fit on the iPod, you can use it.
Select the iPod in iTunes, so that you see its "management" screen.  I don't know if you have the latest iTunes (version 12) installed, or if it's an earlier version.  If 12, there is a sidebar (along left side of window) on the iPod's screen.  In the sidebar, under Settings, click Music.  If it's an earlier version, there is a bar of buttons starting with Summary.  Click Music next to Summary.  That is the iPod's Music settings screen, where you tell iTunes how to sync songs to your iPod.
Near the top, there is a box for Sync Music.  Check that box to enable automatic syncing, if it's not already checked.  NOTE:  If that box is not already checked, the iPod is currently set to manually manage content.  If you change to automatic syncing (by checking that box), content on the iPod will be replace by content from your iTunes library.  Any songs on the iPod now that are not in your current iTunes library will be lost.
Below that setting, there are two options for how to sync.  To sync your entire iTunes music library to the iPod, choose the option to sync Entire music library.  When you click Apply, iTunes syncs your entire music library to the iPod.  Going forward, changes to your iTunes music library are synced automatically to the iPod, the next time it is connected (or when you click Sync if already connected).
If your entire iTunes library is too large to fit on the iPod, you can use the option to sync Selected playlists, artists, albums, and genres.  Please reply back to get more info...  or about using the manual method to load content on the iPod.
