Doesn't start at menu.

1. Can't get DVD to open to Menu when first loaded in DVD player,,, goes straight to movie, menu at end only...??
2. How do I add new chapters??
Thanks

What I did was in the iDVD map was just drag the first part (on the left) to the right and it "puffed" away and left a gray area that says "Drag content here to automatically play........". By doing that the next "square" in the map shows first when DVD is inserted which should be the title/menu page. And should work like you want.
It is like when you play a store bought DVD and it opens with movie trailers automatically and then you can bypass by hitting "menu" button. Which is a cool feature just an extra step to do in the set up Does that help?? I can try to explain better perhaps.

  • Disk doesn't start at 'menu'

Just created a master for a friend learning to edit. She has DVD Studio Pro, which I only use occasionally. Everything works fine. Except. I notice that the burned DVD when inserted into the DVD Player (on the computer) bypasses the menu and starts playing immediately from Chapter One.
Sometimes. That's the qualifier. I pulled it out and stuck it back in a number of times. The first two or three times it started at Chapter One immediately, bypassing the menu. While it was playing the third time I clicked the controller and went to the menu. The next time I inserted it in the player it started at the menu. Mmm?
Any ideas about this. She is doing her first 'professional' film and I'd hate for her client to have problems with the master disk.
    All ears,
    Ben

Still here, when there is time
You are right about the encoding setting. If you give DVDSP unencoded footage then the preference setting for encoding will encode the footage as well as everything else. However, if you use Mpeg2 files then this setting has no effect on them.
It stands to reason that if you add a menu graphic that is not in MPEG2 format then it will need to be encoded when the disc is built, and this is what that part of the DVDSP preferences controls. Thus, if you construct your menus in FCP and encode to MPEG2 before bringing them in to DVDSP they will not get changed... unless you add other items to the menu after you have added this file. A classic example is to encode footage for the menu background and then drop it in to a menu and add a button, assigning a shape. The shapes are not MPEG2 and so need to be encoded... but they are on an already encoded background, which then gets re-encoded and loses quality!
So, the very best way to get crisp menus (IMO) is to create the backgrounds in FCP (or motion, or similar) and convert them to MPEG2 using compressor (but see below). Take a still image from the FCP file into Photoshop and use this as a guide to create an overlay file. Discard the still and save the resulting image of highlight shapes as a .pct file for your overlay. Add this, along with the encoded background footage, to DVDSP and only draw the button rectangles. Use the standard overlay procedure to create the menu and you should get a crisper result.
Some years ago I did a test of different ways to create a menu and get a clear result. I am going back to when you could use QuickTime with an MPEG component to do the encode - so probably around 2004. The test used Compressor and two other well known encoders, and the humble Quicktime. You'll have already guessed it - QT made the best looking menu. It was footage from FCP encoded at a constant bit rate to MPEG2 and then used in a DVDSP menu with a standard overlay. All other variations (DVDSP encoding, mpeg from compressor or others, any variable bit rate encoding) couldn't get close.
Now the curious thing is that underneath Compressor is in fact the QuickTime engine. The only real difference therefore was that no additional bells and whistles were used and it was encoded at a constant bit rate (CBR, in those days also called one pass encoding).
I've not done a test since, so it's about time to try again...

  • Apple logo comes up but ipod doesn't start

When I turn on the device the Apple logo comes up but the ipod doesn't start and go to the menus it just stays with the logo. When I hold down the play/pause on the click wheel to put it to sleep a symbol of a triangle with an exclamation point in the center comes up along with "www.apple.com/support/ipod." I tried rebooting it with Menu/select but nothing happens.

Unfortunately, on a "classic" iPod that uses a hard drive for storage, the most likely cause is a faulty hard drive.
You can try putting the iPod into Disk Mode
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1363
If that works, connect it to the computer and run iTunes.  iTunes may prompt you to do a Restore.  This will erase the iPod, re-install its software, and set it to default settings.  If the cause is data corruption or a software issue (and the hard drive has no physical problem), the Restore should fix it.

  • LiveCycle Designer 8 doesn't start/crashes

I just bought Acrobat Professional 8 and was hoping to work with the LiveCycle Designer to create some PDF forms, but unfortunately the designer doesn't start at all from the start menu. A splash screen appears and the disappears again. I finally managed to open it through Acrobat, but then it feels very buggy. It crashes on me every couple of minutes and some things, like adding a barcode doesn't work at all. I'm using Windows XP professional. I tried reinstalling the whole thing, but that didn't help. It's kind of frustrating to pay hundreds of euro's and then not being able to do my work. Is there anybody out there who has an idea what could be the cause of the problem?

I hade the same problem. My solution that works every time for me...
start adobe pro then select to design a new form in the forms menu. It will let you select all the features that you want on a form so I just keep hitting OK all the way through (doesn't matter what it says, this form will never be saved). It will then open Livecyle with the new "dummy" form. Once it is open, I can open any of the other forms I need to work on. It adds 1+ minute of time to do the extra step but I just don't have more hours to spend on experimenting with other things.
    Good luck

  • ITunes on 64 bit doesn't start, recognised as 32 bit program

    Hi,
    I use windwows 7 Professional 64 bit,
when I run itunes installer everything goes fine (except that it installs in x86 folder!) but when I try to run itunes it just doesn't start, nothing shows up and in task manager i see "itunes.exe*32" which means it is recognised as a 32bit program!!!
    how can I solve this?
I also tried with itunes 8 and 9 but nothing worked

no error messages at all. ... quick time works
many thanks ... that's got one possibility with an error-message-free iTunes launch failure ruled out already.
Checking on another possibility that has been common in recent times, now.
Try (by way of experiment) disabling the BonJour Service.
In your Start Menu, right-click Computer and select "Manage".
    Expand "Services & Applications".
Open "Services". (Maximise the window to better see what's going on.)
Right-click the BonJour Service and select "Properties". In the "General" tab, set Start-up type to "Disabled".
Restart the PC, and try launching iTunes again. Does it launch this time?
If iTunes launches with the BonJour Service disabled, by any chance do you have a recent version of IOBit's Advanced SystemCare utility currently installed on the PC? If so, try uninstalling and reinstalling Advanced SystemCare. Can you launch iTunes without having to disable the BonJour Service now?

  • G1X sometimes doesn't start

I have a G1X that usually works fine, but every once in a while it doesn't start when the power button is pushed. The battery is fully charged. I notice that if I take the battery out and leave it for several hours, when I put the battery back in, it usually starts.
Sometimes when I have been using it, the screen flashed random lines, then the camera turned off with the lens extended. After several hours, it turned on retracted the lens on its own. After that, it seems to be working again.

Well the least expensive thing to try is a new battery and then either you will have fixed it or you will have a spare battery. It is not that uncommonfor batteries to fail in that time period you mentioned. They can also work intermittently as you described, Turning the camera on creates a large demand on the battery. If it is shorting out under load it will happen at those times.
A few other things that can do that that are dirty contacts on the battery or in the battery compartment or the battery door is not closing properly or statying closed. Anything else would be internal and would need to be $erviced.
SHould you suspect dirty contacts use a good electrical cleaner like DeOxit that will not hurt any plastic or rubber.
200% proof denatured alcohol on a Q-tip will work but you dont want to get to much of that on the plastic parts.
The key in what you first said is it shuts down with the lens still extended too. That means and instant loss of power before it can shut down properly....like a computer.
You can also try doing a reset all through the settings menu in hopes it's just a glitch.

  • Downloading doesn't start in Ovi music download

    HI,
I have a Nokia X6 16GB, and I have a nokia ovi account and it has not expired yet, earlier i used to download music tracks and albums by signing in Ovi music account and tapping on button of download, and i have not changed my internet connection and every thing else is working fine in the phone, but since last week whenever i tap on download button my downloading doesn't start, tried with single tracks and albums ( different one also ), and I have done basic troubleshooting steps, like restarting, taking out/in my sim card and soft resetting my phone all of these things doesn't work, ..... So please help me out in this case so that I can download my music albums ....
    Thanks,

    Hi Rajatx6,
You do the downloading straight on your phone, right? If that's the case, check your access point by going to Menu> Settings> Connectivity> Destinations> Check if you have the right access point assigned.
Try reinstalling OVI client - Menu> Settings> Application mgr.> Installed Apps> Ovi Store Client> Options> Uninstall - after that you can obtain an installer from this page : http://store.ovi.com/content/5406
Also you can try checking if you have the latest software installed on your phone by going to Menu> Telephone> Input this code: *#0000# - as of this date the latest is V21 (May vary per region)
    Good luck

  • Finder doesn't start!!

    I have a BIG problem!!
After installing Leopard, the Finder doesn't start! I can't see the icons on the desk, when i click finder icon (on the dock) it doesn't work... when i search something with the spootlight and y click it, ussually finder is open to show the item... it doesn'y open!
Is it any way to reinstall finder? to solve my problem?
    thanks!

The only advice I have is to boot from the Leopard DVD and use the "Disk Utility" application there (in the "Utilities" menu) to fix permissions on the boot drive and check for drive errors. Beyond that I suspect you'd have to reinstall Leopard to get the finder working.

  • DVD doesn't start

I borrowed DVD - "WORKS of ART by THEO ANSEN"
After inserting the cd, Dvd player starts, but it doesn't work. I can see dvd menu right cornet at bottom of the screen. The movie doesn't start, but also I can't select anything in the menu. I can't even quit Dvd player, so I have to press shut down button. Why is that?

    Hello!
The first thing you probably want to check is whether the DVD is clean or not. It may freeze when you put the disc in because it is having trouble reading it. So, first clean it off. Second, I would open up the DVD player application before you insert the DVD, and make sure the screen size isn't set to full screen, so you can see the desktop. Insert the DVD, and when it freezes, try clicking on the desktop and see if it can put the desktop in the foreground. You may get the spinning color wheel - let it sit for a while and see if it can fix itself. If it can't, press commandoptionescape and see if DVD player says "not responding" next to it. If it does, force quit DVD player.
If you can't get it to play with the above options, then I would try two more things. First, I would try a different DVD. If another DVD runs fine, then you can be sure that nothing is wrong with the computer and it is the initial DVD that is causing problems. If all DVD's freeze when you put them in, I would question whether the DVD application is working correctly; a reinstallation may be necessary.
Also, for added measure, why don't you go ahead and repair the permissions on your hard disk. You can do this by opening hard drive/Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility. Disk Utility is a very powerful tool which allows you to perform many functions. All that we are interested in is the "repair permissions" function. On the left hand side of the Disk Utility window, you hard drive and volume will be listed. Select the OS volume, and under the +first aid+ tab select +repair permissions+. If you haven't done that in a while, you'll probably get a whole list of things that are repaired. Then, restart and try running DVD player again.
Hopefully one of these options works. Please let me know the results!

  • Macbook 13 (2012) doesn't start

Hello, macbook 13 (2012) doesn't start, at start shows white screen with apple logo and gray scala below, as far as boots (scala filled ) it restart again and again, no combination of tastature at starting possible. Please support who knows the issue.

Try these in order testing your system after each to see if it's back to normal:
    1. a. Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
        b. Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
    2. Restart the computer in Safe Mode, then restart again, normally. If this doesn't help, then:
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the
COMMAND and R keys until the Utilities menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the
computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager
screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    3. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
    4. Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks: Reboot from the Recovery HD. Select Reinstall OS X from the Utilities menu, and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • S.O.S. !!! system (tiger) doesn't start aymore

Hi! Can anybody help me please?? It's a bit of a story but maybe there are details that help you solve my prob...??
I'm ichat/isight user for more than two years now. I had all sorts of malfunctions but what's happening now's never been there before AND can't be fixed by restarting, unplugging, restarting whole system etc.
    OK, this is what's happened:
-> unplugged isight from my powermac (g5) to use on powerbook G4 (as I've done succesfully before). on G4 I got ichat running after plugging in isight, then clicked "camera" symbol to check if it runs properly. The camera gave me one short glance and then froze and after that ichat completely hung up. I've shut it down (applealtesc) -> didn't show as shut (little black arrow underneath programm-sign). I had to put the G4 on standby and then log in again before the programme would shut down. I've done it twice and after the second time my G4 doesn't come back anymore at all.... :((( It only shows the grey apple and the spinning wheel (grey dots) for ages! I've taken isight away and everything (mightymouse) but still NO CHANGE!!! No matter how long I wait - My whole system never comes back!!! BUT - I'm very lucky to have my power Mac with ichat running on it properly --- as I thought.... Now, THIS REALLY KILLS ME!!! I plugged camera in again, started ichat on G5... same sh** like on G4! Ichat won't close down anymore no matter what I do!!!I've done complete restart of system... NO CHANGE!!! What have I done wrong???? Can anybody help me - please???
    edit:
Just installed ichat update on G5. Was funny again, since ichat wouldn't let system close down and do restart. I had to press the button - which I hate! Feels so - er- violent! NOW ichat+isight work again properly.
    BUT!!!
Can anybody tell me how to get my G4 powerbook running again??? I'd like to install the ichat update there as well, think that'll fix my problmes there - but before that I have to get into my system again... ;( No matter what buttons I press or how often I remove the battery plate - The system doesn' t start!!!! I get the greyish screen with spinning dots-wheel and then after a while I get a blue screen without ANYTHING on it no mouse arrow or any menue. WHAT CAN I DO?? There's important stuff on it I haven't done backups from yet! (it's always like that, in't it?)

Thanks for the status report, Ursula!
-- begin edit: (Ursula IM'd me while I was finishing this post)
Congratulations, Ursula!!! You got your PowerBook running. I understand that you are still working on the restoring the settings, data files, and applications, but thanks for sharing the great news. Well done!
[I leave this post for your (and other readers') possible use while you finish.]

Based on what you told Ralph and me in our text chat, my guess is that whatever caused your son's user session to crash is what is also crashing your G5 Finder when you attempt to copy it. Your son's User folder was probably locked by OS X when the PowerBook crashed while he was using it. I think you are doing the correct thing by moving only the important files from his (locked) PowerBook User folder.
Once you get all your son's most important files moved, I suggest you try moving one of the unlocked User folders to your G5 drive. You may be able to move the User folders (other than your son's locked one) to your G5 so you will have backups for those users.
You can try this by moving one entire User folder (not the "Users" folder with all Users inside) by option-dragging it into the folder you want in your G5's hard drive finder window. If that one works, other unlocked User folders may work, too.
Because your PowerBook had insufficient disk space for a reinstall, you were forced to interrupt the reinstall process twice. Therefore, your PowerBook may not respond to either reboots or reinstalls, even after you free up 10GB - 25GB (or even more) of disk space on your PowerBook.
If your PowerBook does not respond to your planned actions, and if you want to try one more thing before you take the PowerBook to an Apple Technician, my best suggestion is that you erase and "zero" the disk using Disk Utility. (Disk Utility Help will tell you how to do this.) Use the "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)" format setting, and select the "Zero Out Data" setting in the "Security Options" pop-up.
You can perform the erase and zero either in the Target Disk Mode or by using the Disk Utility application on your PowerBook's "Install" DVD. Either way, it may take more than an hour to Zero the disk, but "zeroing" should get rid of whatever caused your son's session to crash. If you want more specifics about this, post back or contact me via iChat when I am online.
Once you have the disk erased, reinstall everything that you need using your PowerBook's "Install" DVD. After the install is finished and you restart your PowerBook, repair Disk Permissions ("Rights" auf Deutsch?). Then apply the Mac OS X 10.4.8 Combo Update (PPC) that I linked in my first response above.
Follow the Combo Update with one more repair of Disk Permissions. If you get this far, you can reinstall your other necessary software apps and then restore the data you need from the backups you have.
If the above process does not work, your PowerBook may need to see the Apple Service Technician.
You told me in our chat that you work on very large files. Therefore, you will need to regularly perform the kind of Mac OS X Maintenance described in the "Maintenance" link in my first response above. I do a lot of large video and PhotoShop image editing. To keep my Mac running fast and reliably, I do the routine maintenance on a regular schedule, and I try to keep at least 35% - 50% of my startup disk free. I never let my 160GB startup disk get more than 75% full. I offer this info so you will know how important free space is in the Ma OS X startup disk. If you need more space, backup some files and remove them or add another disk drive, but do not let your startup disk get too full on any of your OS X Macs.
One final note: because you had to force a shutdown (hold in power button until the G5 turned off) on your G5 last night, you should do a safe boot on the G5 as soon as possible. You can find detailed instructions for Safe Boot from the "Maintenance" link in my first response above, but I will give you a short version here:• Restart your G5.
    • As soon as the startup chime sounds, press and hold the <shift> key.
    • Release the <shift> key when you see the spinning gear on the monitor.
    • Let the machine run until the desktop is visible. (In 10.4.8, you will be asked for your administrator password before you get the desktop.)
    • After the desktop and menu bar are visible, you should do a normal "Restart" to finalize all needed actions. Do not do anything other than restart while in Safe Boot mode or you risk leaving the Safe Boot actions unfinished.Once your Mac is restarted, you can return to your G5's normal routine maintenance schedule.
Let us know how things progress or if you need anything else.

My Ipad2 is always restarting, but only appears the apple symbol and doesn't starts. What can I do?

    Thank you for your reply.
I don't think it's paired with another device, as the Apple TV (3rd Gen) is the only device I have from Apple, that uses this remote (unless my iPhone or iPod can pair with it) ..or maybe the remote pairs with other than Apple products ? (Can it) ?
I have tried to press the menu and right - left - up- down - middle - play/pause simultaneously without anything happening.
All I'm left with now, is a brick with a flash on it.
I never connected it to my laptop before it broke down (as it only was 2-3 days old) can that be a problem for resetting it ?
