Doesnt register black ink

My hp 6500 all in one quit printing black ink, so I replaced the cartridge, still nothing, print report say I have an empty cartidge and it's brand spanking new!  So I cleaned the cartridge heads, still nothing.  Got any ideas?

There are a couple of things you can try whenever a print quality issue, such as this, comes up.  You mention that you performed a cleaning of the printheads.  Did you do this manually or using the automated tool for Clean Printhead?  If you used the automated tool, did you let it perform all 3 levels of printhead cleaning?
Also, did the unit attempt to align when you changed the black cartridge?  If so, was this able to pass or did it fail?
Did you try removing the cartridge from the printer and cleaning the electrical contact of the cartridge?  As well, unplug the power source to the printer and clean the matching contact in the printhead.
There is also a document with further troubleshooting steps for a print quality issue that can be found here.
If you get to the step about Replacing the printhead, then you have a couple of options.  Do you know if this printer is in or out of warranty?
If out of warranty:
1) One can try the workaround solution provided by Bob_Headrick in the thread found here.
2) One can purchase the printhead from the HP Parts Store with the part number CN643a.  The printhead currently sells for around $70 usd.
3) One can purchase a new printer, as this would be not much more than the printhead and would come with a full factory warranty.
Hope this helps.

  • Brand new officejet 4630 with black ink problem and ok button doesnt work

Hi! I bought a new printer today, officejet 4630 and it included toner cartridges in the box. Iset it up like the sheet in the box said. After I had filled in date etc, I put in the ink ( and yes, remembered to check that it was compatible and take of the tape) Then this message showed in the display and still does:  "Ink cartridge(s) problem. The following ink cartridges must be replaced" and a black dot.  The cartridges were brand new and came in the same box as the printer. I have tried a reset ( taking out the cord for power supply, wait 60 sec etc) I also saw in Hp support you were to press "ok" to get rid of the message before restart. I can't press ok. It just beeps. No matter what button I press.   Suggestions? Of course I can try with a new cartridge, but to paying $20 for a new cartridge when it was included in the box and should work is not ok.

  • HP3070A Black Ink Cartridge does not print

My black ink cartridge started printing badly so I changed the cartridge and now it doesnt print any black at all.  Having done all the usual things eg: ink clean, print head alignment check, restart, etc etc several times I found a post on this forum saying to try switching paper type to glossy.  Lo and behold - prints perfectly! A life saving tip as I work from home and need a printer to do my job.   I have had the printer for 18 months, so it's out if warranty now, quelle suprise, but apparently HP are extending this to two years as this is a known fault with the HP3070A?  So how do I go about getting a repair/replacement under this new warranty?  I've tried to find a contact tel no for HP Support but funnily enough it isnt available.  I am a member of Which? and bought this printer on their recommendation.  I will be contacting them to tell them to change oit to a "Don't Buy" if this isnt resolved quickly.

  • Print dialog (Proof) Simulate Black Ink

I got an Epson 4880 to do some tests for proofing. Its not serious proofing or anything like contract-proof,its just to serve as guideline for some customers but I think Im missing something.
I plan to get a spectrophotometer some time soon but for now I have set up and run some tests with Epson Standart Proofing Paper still using the canned profiles, but something is puzzling me.
On printer dialog I choose Proof (Using FOGRA39 since Epson claims this paper is optimized for this profile white point)
Photoshop Manages Colors and them the corresponding (canned) profile Pro4880 Standard Proofing_PK.
Proof Setup I use a saved custom (FOGRA39 - BPC on - Simulate Black Ink - Relative Colorimetric)
    Whats puzzling me is:
Why on earth the blacks are printed deeper whenever I choose Simulate Black Ink?
Shouldnt it be the other way around?
In soft proof there is a visible difference between Simulate Black Ink on or off,and that difference doesnt translate on paper. Both prints are almost identical with the one with Simulate Black Ink "On" having slightly deeper blacks.
Could  it lbe because of the Printer+paper profile having a lower black density than FOGRA39?
BTW: Simulate Paper Color and Simulate Black Ink dont show any difference in preview window on the left of Print dialog box (with Match Print Colors checked)
Ty in advance for any help or clarification.

    Miguel,
I really think you can get around the RIP purchase, if you're just doing randoms. My guess is you are, if you were trying to print from Photoshop.
I think the problem with printing from PS is the craziness of it. PS is doing two conversions on output, using the Epson driver. No wonder it gets fouled up.
I will be honest with you, I don't do any printing (post script) from Adobe page layout anymore, and certainly not from Photoshop. All PDF. Post script is cumbersome and troublesome, and you can't see what you've got unless you distill it.
Just bypass this post script nonsense altogether. Try the following test - start with a good Adobe RGB image.  Convert to Japan newspaper with normal settings. Then convert this to your Epson RGB, the three different ways you mention. Make sure the finished images are untagged Device RGB, flat, 300 PPI, 8 bit.
Once you have the three, you can try a few different options, using the Epson bonjour in your print center. Then
    1. You can just drag the tiffs onto the printer in the print center (but they probably won't gang)
    2. You can try printing them from Preview (again no gang). Preview should produce a dumb clean PS with no conversion. If this option produces reliable output, you can set up a hot folder, and use Automator to print your randoms if you want. There may be a way to set up the Bonjour printer to gang images and save paper.
    3. Slap your RGB tiffs onto a black InDesign page. Output a PDF, no conversion, no profiles included. Drop the PDF onto your printer in the print center (orientation and page size will be a factor). This is a crude way of ganging to save paper
Your Epson should produce three very different images, and render the different proof scenarios properly. Please try it, you might save money.
If it's just images you want to print, flat tiffs really should work. You don't need a RIP, they are already ripped. However I will say if you are needing to proof page layout with vector elements, there probably isn't a good workaround, you need a RIP. But then, you wouldn't be printing from Photoshop, either.
If it works, it's just a matter of setting up the desired conversions in a batch workflow. Source RGB requires two conversions. If the images are already FOGRA39, then it's just a matter of the one conversion to Epson RGB, with desired settings, flat, 300 PPI, 8 bit, untagged.

  • Printing from Photoshop to EpsonR3000 on MacOSX.8.5 on photoshop manages colors I cannot print with matte black ink

Because it doesnt recognise the matte paper selection and defaults to glossy. If I select matte black ink at the printer manually and send to print, it will not print amd asks for black ink to be switched to photo black. Help! I've spoken to Epson and switched the printer once and they have demonstrated it works in Preview and say talk to Adobe.

Yup, its the Gutenprint driver that replaced the Epson driver. As you say, reinstall the correct driver from Epson. Then NEVER let Apple’s Software Update ever update drivers (that’s the kiss of death).

  • In the C309, How can I use just the regular black ink cartridge only?

    Hi
I just bought a HP C-309 a short time ago.  I bought a HP reg black cartridge XL quite quickly.  This thing is a sweet
machine, works perfectly, but is a terrible terrible ink hog.
Had I known, I would have gone for the Kodak which touts much lower ink costs.
I only use this thing for documents.  I do not want to keep putting color cartridges in.  They are all on low except for the black XL cartridge.  How can I set it up to use only this cartridge for black and white..and just leave the color ones on empty.
I will have to get rid of it if I have to keep feeding it this way.  The ink levels seem always low.  By the way, the help asks me for model number.  They want to know whether it is 309n or 309g.  I see no way to find out..no notations on machine or purchase documents.  HP, if  you need this info...make it easy for the consumer to FIND the info...gheesh!

    Hi   lyn1360
There are several circumstances when color ink may be used—primarily to improve print quality, and sometimes to improve printer reliability—even if the document appears to be only black text-and-graphics. Many HP printers utilize chemical interactions to improve the quality and permanence of plain paper black text-and-graphics by adding small amounts of color ink to certain black areas. Some dark images which look black to human eye may contain a combination of black and color inks. For black and white images and photos or grey black which we think as black, a blend of colors called "composite black" may be used to achieve significantly better image quality and smoother gray tones than can be accomplished with black inks alone. Some inkjet printers utilize pigmented black ink, which is incompatible with some inkjet photo paper. In this case, dark or black areas are made up of color inks.
For users who wish to print utilizing just black ink (despite the reduced print quality), many HP printers offer options. For example, a driver color setting (by selecting "print in grayscale with the black cartridge only" in printing preferences) specifies printing using only black ink. In addition, many IPH printers can operate in "reserve mode," which allows the user to continue to print with just the black cartridge when the color cartridge is removed or not installed. In HP IIC systems like your printer C309, all supplies are required to be installed in the printer for the printer to function.
To find the correct model number for your printer, you can just open the carriage access door and on the right side you can see the model number. For OJ Pro printers, we need to open the cartridge access door on the front left side to see the model number.

  • HP Photosmart 6510 e-All-in-One Printer Does Not Print Black Ink

I have run all the troubleshooting listed from HP and the "check" warrenty doesn't come up blank.  I would like to not have to purchase a new printer to fix this any help would be greatly appreciated:
    1) Rebooted Printer
    2) Installed new printer cartridge (2nd one) - really not happy about this as that represents almost $50 in HP ink
    3) Checked venting - Not the problem
    4) From Tools ran head cleaner - still only prints colors (or grey)
I've liked HP printers for a long time, but after reading the forums I'm really seeing an issue with the model I puchased.  I don't mind purchasing HP ink and my printer isn't a high volume use printer so I expect it to last beyond 1 year 1 day.
I have the SN and product number available if a tech needs.

  • Officejet 4500 will not print black ink

Our small office has had an Officejet 4500 for a few months now with no problems. Today it has ceased printing any black ink.
-I have changed the cartridge to be sure, though at no point has it said low ink. This fixed the problem for a few pages but the problem popped back up. I did align the cartridges after installing the new cartridge.
-I have tried cleaning the contacts on the cartridge itself.
-The scanning function still functions and color ink can be printed.
-Overall printing does seem slower, regardless of the black ink issue. Not sure if related.
-The all in one has been used more frequently in the past few weeks.

My 6515 photosmart all in one printer is not printing in black ink.  I have installed a brand new cartridge, gone through all the troubleshooting suggestions several times, run a clean printhead check 5 times -- waiting 30 minutes between the 3rd and 4th one.  I am so incredibly frustrated.  My printer is two years old and is out of warranty.  I would like to speak with a customer support person, and I want a replacement for this printer if there is no other troubleshooting possibilities that will work.   This is unacceptable product quality, and from the looks of the 9,000 other boards under the subject "not printing black ink" I am not alone.  I want to know what HP will do for me to resolve this situation.  Thanks in advance for your help.

  • Black Ink wont print on HP Photosmart Plus B210a Product CN216A

My black ink wont print on the printer stated above. I have changed it twice in the past 3 days, still wont work. I then ran a print quality report, cleaned printheads, aligned cartridges, ran all the tests. Nothing will work. The color ink will print, but nothing black will. On the print quality report, the black ink wont show. The printer displays the black ink, so installation of the cartridge must have been correct. Is the black ink cartridge or slot broken. I'm not a tech savvy person so I dont know the term for that thing. Please help, and let me know if I should just get a new printer. Thanks

Since you have automatically cleaned the printhead, and aligned the cartridges I would try a manual cleaning of the printhead to make sure that ink buildup is not the issue.  Solution three on this document shows how to remove and clean the printhead manually. I know that this document is not titled with your ink issue, but it is the best at outlining the steps needed to do that cleaning on the printhead.  Open that first drop down menu option titled “0xc1900013 or no code displays with the Ink System Failure error message” and follow those steps listed under solution three.  While you have that printhead out and are cleaning the contacts, take note of the warranty ends date listed there. If there is still an issue, write back and let me and provide that date off the printhead too.
