  • WHen I try searching by typing in address bar, I found yahoo as my default search engine which I want to be changed to google.

''Duplicate post, continue here - [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/questions/816389]''
There are 3 different options for searching in Mozilla
    # Open Google.com and start searching
    # Enter your search string in Search bar
    # Enter you text in address bar and press space bar and then press enter.
Now when I try to search through address bar then I found yahoo as my default search engine which I want to be changed to Google.com
Please tell me the way of changing this.

This issue can be caused by an extension.
Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
    * Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

    * [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]]
In Firefox 4 you can use one of these to start in <u>[[Safe mode]]</u>:
    * Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
    * Hold down the Shift key while double clicking the Firefox desktop shortcut (Windows)

  • Address bar & search engine bar not working

On a Windows XP (Version 5.1) laptop with FireFox version 31, the following occurs:
Typing and pressing enter in the address bar does nothing; neither does clicking the "go" arrow at the end of the address bar. FireFox doesn't auto-complete entries, nor will it navigate to any websites including searching via Google. Also, you cannot type "about:home" or any other variation of an "about:" entry. Additionally, you cannot "Paste & Go." The address bar is populated with the clipboard text, but it doesn't perform the "Go" action.
The Search Engine Bar has no option for Google, Bing, etc. When clicking "Manage Search Engines" no other options are present. When clicking the "Get more search engines..." link on the window, no action is performed - no tab opens to search add-ons - just nothing.
I am able to open the FireFox menu and I can press Alt and view/use the File/Edit/View menus.
I've already performed the following steps and NOTHING changed in any attempts:
    - uninstalled/reinstalled FireFox
    - started FireFox in Safe Mode
    - Reset FireFox

Do a clean reinstall and delete the Firefox program folder before (re)installing a fresh copy of the current Firefox release.
*Download the full Firefox installer and save the file to the desktop<br>https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all.html
If possible uninstall your current Firefox version to cleanup the Windows registry and settings in security software.
*Do NOT remove "personal data" when you uninstall your current Firefox version, because this will remove all profile folders and you lose personal data like bookmarks and passwords including data in profiles created by other Firefox versions.
Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
    *(32 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\"
    *(64 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\"
*It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.

Your bookmarks and other personal data are stored in the Firefox profile folder and won't be affected by an uninstall and (re)install, but make sure that "remove personal data" is NOT selected when you uninstall Firefox.
If you keep having problems then also create a new profile.

hello Simpetus, please report that issue to the theme's developer - the changes in the search interface landed in firefox 34 without the usual grace period, so they might not have had enough time to prepare & adapt.

  • My URL/Address bar is missing after the delicious update. My search engine bar is missing after the Delicious update. I cant figure out how to turn them back on. rhouwan@*****.***, thank you.

My URL/address bar is missing after the Delicious update.
My search engine drop down menu is missing after the Delicious update.

Try the Firefox SafeMode. <br />
    ''A troubleshooting mode, which disables most Add-ons.'' <br />
''(If you're not using it, switch to the Default Theme.)''
    # You can open the Firefox 4/5/6/7 SafeMode by holding the '''Shft''' key when you use the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
    # Or use the Help menu item, click on '''Restart with Add-ons Disabled...''' while Firefox is running. <br />
''To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before using the Firefox shortcut (without the Shft key) to open it again.''
If it is good in the Firefox SafeMode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. <br />

  • Today's update seems to have modified the interface for the search engine bar to icons rather than a list. Is there any way I can change it back?

I know everyone says they "hate" changes to familiar interfaces at first before growing accustomed to them, but I just personally don't care for the icon-tray look in anything I use (it seems to defeat at least some of the point of using Internet on an actual computer rather than on a mobile phone). I also sort of have a lot of search engines up there, not all of which I can immediately recognize by icon. I know it's a minor inconvenience, but having to scroll over an icon to see the name of its associated search engine is pretty annoying after being used to having a nice list that just told you all of their names. Any way that I can change it back to the old list-interface?

    Thank you, much appreciated!

  • Control+E no longer takes you to the search engine bar :(. otherwise #4 is great!!

In the past, we could use control+E to activate the search engine toolbar. Do you plan to bring that back?

You can bring it back by using the Change Search Shortcut add-on - https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/change-search-shortcut/

  • When firefox opens it had Incredimail as the search engine. I disengaged that, now have nothing there, but Incredimail still shows in the upper left by the tool bars. How can I get rid of this and get back a search engine that I want?

When Firefox opens here is NO toolbar! But Incredimail shows as something up there, even though I deleted it from my Firefox Home page. I do not want anything to do with Incredimail. How do I correct all of this and get a server that I want?

That file could be set as a Launch Agent or Daemon in your ~/Library or /Library, You could try to look for it or Safeboot your computer and then empty the trash. Safebooting disables Launch Agents/Daemon and Third Party Kernal extensions. Here's the article to Safeboot OS X: What is Safe Boot, Safe Mode? - Apple Support

  • How do I get rid of Yahoo and Bing as interloper search engines? I want Google ONLY!!

I installed a "free" winzip-type app, 7-ZIP and installed some other stuff without notice, including Yahoo and bing. I want my Firefox browser back the way it was before yesterday

I've just spent 2 hours trying to figure it out. I did it! It's easy.
    1. Find the tool bar at the top left of your computer screen:
"File Edit View History Bookmarks Yahoo Tools Help"
    2. Press "Tools"
    3. Next screen:
    Press "Add-Ons Manager"
    Find "Start Now"
On right side of screen press: "Disable" or "Delete"
    4. Close screen

  • How do I add a search engine to the search bar from a hard disk file?

I want to add a search engine to the search bar from an XML file on my hard disk. "Manage Search Engines" from the search bar drop down list only appears to allow adding search engines from web sites.
    Thanks.

Hmmm. This didn't work. I even re-booted, and Firefox still doesn't show the search engine.
It was actually an update to an earlier engine, and I foolishly removed the old version rather than just updating it.
Is there anything elsewhere (eg. the registry) that might be preventing this?

  • Chatzum search engine has installed on Firefox. How can I remove it

Chatzum has installed itself on Firefox.and appears as default search engine each time I open a new tab. It does not appear in the search enhines list or as an add-on. Can you suggest how to remove it

    For Firefox:
The "about:config" route suggested above, to removal of chatzum works but you need other actions:
    1) You need to search for "chatzum" as well as "searchsafe" when using the about:config option. The sneaky change of address hides many things. (in all, I deleted 4 lines of code (actually only disabled them.....remnants of it remains)
    2) Uninstalling chatzum via control panel (program removal option) is not enough. But you have to do that.
    3) Removing from search toolbar (or search box) is a bit tricky as chatzum will have taken over and there is no chatzum logo, but its there as part of browser toolbar (if activated)......only the words "search safer" (or search safe appears in that search box). Click on the left logo area of the search box, get dropdown list of search engines. Click option "Manage Search Engine"...........remove "searchsafe", (and Yahoo if you want to next choose Google as the default. Otherwise if you have a YTD or yahoo toolbar, somehow they will prevent you going Google in the Search box! Afternote: This however may be because I did not restart the browser..........seems to have resolved itself even with the Yahoo option left in the list......actually I removed it, but somehow it re-installed itself there in the list!).
    4) all that should have removed it. But if it appears as home page when you turn on browser: You have to change it to default opening in blank page (about:home) or go to Google search and make that your home page. Go to google search first then by clicking on browser "tools" option and setting your home page from there.
So this removes chatzum when new tab is activated. Removes it as default in Search engine bar. Removes it from home page of browser!
so far I have covered some of the appearances of chatzum..........who knows what other dirty tricks are hidden......It should be considered malware (by definition = unwanted, disruptive, undemocratic) by all the antivirus programs, but it is not. Stay tuned.

  • How to Change the Search Engine in Safari?

How can I change the Search engine?
I want to use google instead of Genieo. Everytime I open Safari it automatically redirect to Genieo and it really ******* me off! >_<

Back up all data, then remove the "Genieo" spyware by following the instructions on this page.
Some versions of the spyware may not be completely removed by those instructions. If you still have problems, do as follows.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    /Library/Frameworks/GenieoExtra.framework
Right-click or control-click the line and select
    Services ▹ Reveal
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item selected. Move the selected item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator password.
Repeat with each of these lines:
    /Library/LaunchAgents/com.genieoinnovation.macextension.plist/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.genieoinnovation.macextension.client.plist/Library/PrivilegedHelperTools/com.genieoinnovation.macextension.client
    Then reboot.
From the Safari menu bar, select
    Safari ▹ Preferences ▹ Extensions
Uninstall any extension you don't recognize. If in doubt, uninstall all extensions. Do the equivalent for the Firefox and Chrome browsers, if you use either of those.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C). In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar, paste into the box that opens (command-V). You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

  • Tried to change search engines in firefox 34 and lost all of them and could not get them back, finally went back to version 33.how do you fix that problem

I did not want yahoo as my default search engine. I want to be able to pick and choose as always. When i clicked on a different search engine i lost all functionality of the search bar and it became blank.I,ve gone back to 33 till i can get a fix for the problem. I would appreciate your help.

If you want to restore the previously used standalone window to manage search engines then you can toggle this pref to false with a middle-click on the about:config page.
    about:config page: browser.search.showOneOffButtons = false
You need to close and restart Firefox to make this work properly.
In the address bar, type '''about:preferences#search<enter>'''
If you miss being able to switch search engines without going
    crazy with menus, try this out;
    '''[https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/context-search/ Context Search]''' {web link}
Expands the context menu's 'Search for' item into a list of
installed search engines, allowing you to choose the engine
you want to use for each search.
