Dolby Digital or Surcode Dolby Digital

Hello, i'm new here, have a question, don't know if it's been asked before, but here it goes:
Is there any big difference between Dolby Digital and Surcode Dolby Digital when you encode on Media Enconder, if i just encode with the regular Dolby Digital will it be 5.1? is it really a noticeable difference from the Surcode?

Jeff,
Thank you for the info. If I understood everything, then one would need a SurCode DD 5.1 SS plug-in specific to Encore too.
Also, as Encore only has passthrough capabilities for DD 5.1 SS, and it cannot be monitored there, it would also seem that Encore would have to be rewritten in the Preview module, to accommodate the 5.1 SS playback.
With the "old-fashioned" method, one could easily monitor their DD 5.1 SS in PrPro, just not once it is Imported (AC3 DD 5.1 SS) into Encore, though it will write to DVD/BD.
Now, one other consideration - $. The Minnetonka SurCode plug-in for PrPro prices out with little profit for Minnetonka. They pay enough in licensing fees to Dolby Labs, that even a second license is not discounted beyond the Adobe-user discount. Then, the user would have to acquire a separate plug-in for En, at about another US$250. I wonder how many would shell out a possible total of US$500 to use ADL for DD 5.1 SS, even if it WAS available?
Until such time, we can just Export/Import and go get that cup of coffee! At least for US$250, we do have a workflow, albeit one with a few more steps.
Appreciated,
Hunt
PS - all of a sudden ADL between PrPro & En does not temp me quite so much.

HiIm using the Crystal Reports that comes with VS 2005 and I'm having a problem showing a number with 15 int digits and 3 decimal digits. In my tests, for example I have a formula that only has this line of code:  356125478123456.251I want the report to show  356,125,478,123,456.251 but it shows  356,125,478,123,456.000Why does CR puts 000 when it has to be a 251!!! WHY?!!!! I have tried to put the number as a string and I have tried a lot of functions like Round, Truncate, ToText, CDbl, etc and it's always the same result. In the format object of that formula the decimals are 1.000 and the rounding is 0.001. And the following is the weirdest part:If, instead of 356125478123456.251 I put 56125478123456.251, CR shows 56,125,478,123,456.300If then I put  6125478123456.251 CR shows 6,125,478,123,456.250And then if I put 125478123456.251 CR SUCCESFULLY shows 125,478,123,456.251 That is the way I want it but with 15 int digits. It looks like CR only works with a maximum of 12 int digits, more than that, the decimals don't work. How can I fix this? Please help me!Kind regards,Agustín Conde

    Hi Agustin,
Crystal Reports uses signed doubles as its datatype for numbers.  A signed double on a 32 bit machine is represented by 8 bytes.  1 sign bit, 11 exponent bit, and 52 bit for the mantissa. This roughly corresponds to 15 digits of total precision in decimal; ie. it does not matter where your dot is. You have 15 digits before and after the decimal point combined.
This behavior is pretty standard.  You should see similar behavior in applications such as excel.
    Hope this helps,
    Ken

  • Surcode Dolby Digital and CC

I questioned Minnetonka Audio Software about upgrading the licence from cs6 to cc, this is the reply:
The subscription model and new licensing infrastructure employed by Adobe for Creative Cloud requires a new licensing mechanism for SurCode for Dolby Digital® 5.1 Encoder for Adobe Premiere Pro CC. We at Minnetonka Audio are finalizing the upgrade policy for existing SurCode for Dolby Digital® 5.1 Encoder for Adobe Premiere Pro Creative Suite owners, and will provide that to you within 10 business days.
    Who knows what this means.

Here is the latest About upgrading Surcode to CC:
In the past, customers who purchased a license for the SurCode for Dolby Digital 5.1 Encoder (DDPP) in a previous release of the Adobe Creative Suite have been able migrate their license to each latest CS release free of charge - up through the current CS6 version. With the introduction of Adobe’s new Creative Cloud subscription plan, an all-new licensing mechanism for SurCode for Dolby Digital® 5.1 Encoder for Adobe Premiere Pro CC (UDDCC) is required.
For Existing SurCode for Adobe Products Customers:
Permanent license activation on one computer for the built-in SurCode for Dolby Digital 5.1 Encoder module in Adobe Creative Cloud - Upgrade from DDPP to UDDCC.
Serial Number and/or proof of purchase for SurCode for Dolby Digital 5.1 (DDPP) is required. - Please add your current serial number to the remarks field, when completing your order, or simply reply to the Order Confirmation email with your proof of purchase.
This update has been made available to our existing DDPP customers for a fee of $99.00 USD.

  • Dumb question: Difference between Digital Port versus a Digital Line?!

    Hello All,
PLEASE excuse my numbskull question, but I can't find an answer to this question. What is the difference between a digital port and a digital line? I need to control some relay modules in our 2345 box. This works with digital line output, but I can also trip the relays using a Port write.
    Any recommendations?
    Thanks for all your input.
    Max

    Hello,
There are a few different ways that you can control your digital lines.  You can use the DAQ Assistant or you can program by using the DAQmx VIs that the DAQ Assistant uses to generate its code.
Either way you will need to write to a digital line so your lines will need to be configured as digital outputs.  There are a few good examples that you can use that are installed with LabVIEW.  You can find these examples by opening up the Example Finder (Help>>Find Examples) and then browsing to Hardware Input and Output>>DAQmx>>Digital Generation.>>Write Dig Chan.vi.  This example shows how to write the different lines on a port.  You can also choose to write just one sample instead of N Samples.  Depending on your situation you can change the polymorphic instance of the DAQmx Write VI and also change the line grouping constant from "one channel for all lines" to "one channel for each line" if you want to write in a different way.  But you can at least start with this example and make any changes you like down the road.

  • Mixing 1 digits etype and 4 digits etype

Oracle Spatial 8.1.7: 1 digits ETYPE vs 4 digits ETYPE
    Problem Statement:
In oracle spatial 8.1.7 pdf Part Number A85337-01 I see in page 2-9
Note: For polygon ring elements in a single geometry, you can use
    either 1-digit or 4-digit SDO_ETYPE values for all elements;
however, you cannot mix 1-digit and 4-digit SDO_ETYPE values.
Question: we are currently mixing ETYPE 1004 and 4, 1005 and 5 etc....
Does the "cannot mix" apply ONLY to polygon rings and not other types?
Can anyone clarify, because we will be mixing inserting data through SDO_API and do not want any problems later on.
    thanks

Does the "cannot mix" apply ONLY to polygon rings and not other types? Only polygons use the 4 digit etypes.
If you use the 4 digit etype, you must use the 4 digit gtype (includes dimensionality).
If you use the 4 digit etype, your geometry must have correct rotation and ring ordering.
All elements in a geometry must be consistent.
Some functions in 9i and 10i require migrated data.
In 9iR2, there is a single geometry interface so data can be migrated before it is inserted into the database using sdo_migrate.to_current.
In 10i, there is a new java api that is completely supported and will create geometries in the current format.

  • Advice desperately needed from Surcode/dolby 5.1 users

    Hi all,
I am on the verge of paying the big price ticket to get Surcode unlocked within premiere, but I can't successfully get a file to output with high enough volume.
    Here are my settings.
I have tried with dialogue normalisation set to -1, -5, -27 and it makes no difference. I have also set dynamic range compression to off and set all of the mix levels to as close to 0dB as they will go (they're -3dB by default and the same in the above pic)and tried 3dB surround attenuation but all of these things make no difference.
When I drag the AC3 file back into premiere after export, I need to apply 30dB of audio gain to it for it to playback at the same sort of volume I want (and the volume I saw/heard before exporting from premiere).
I have emailed Surcode after hearing good things about their customer service but as yet they have just pointed me towards some generic dolby pdf's which I've read but can't find the problem.
I'm desperate for help as I have an entire project waiting to be exported once I cure this issue!

i didn't realise that was a tutorial to get around using Surcode. To be honest I like the look of surcode and the simplicity of it and I think it's worth the money if it only did it's job.
My problem has now directed me to the mixer page of the premiere window as I think this might be part of the cause.
in this picture each channel has the center dial turned up to full. It was my understanding that this would result in every track coming out 100% in the center channel and not anywhere else. I.e - by putting left rear channel's center dial up to 100% that would result in all of the sound going to the center channel and none into the left rear. Is this incorrect?
I also think that the LFE channel in that pic looks different to mine because of the steps he takes elsewhere in the workflow, but on mine I have the LFE dial on the front left and right and also the center tracks turned to about 30%, which (as is my understanding anyway) means that of the sound in those channels 30% of it is sent to the sub woofer.
I've looked everywhere for a decent tutorial on how to set up your mixer for a 5.1 project but can not find one.
My files are NOT all mono either and I think this might be an issue. I have a mono vocal track but then a stereo wav for music which I pan to front left and rights (I duplicate the track and push one puck to front left and one to front right, but i've also tried putting it in the center channel and leaving the center dial at 0% as this also seems to send the sound to the front left and right equally.)

  • Surcode dolby in cs3

    hi all,
A few years ago, I purchased a plugin for premier pro 2 to handle dolby 5.1... the minnetonka surcode.
I have now updated my pp2 to cs3 and am amazed I appear to be required to repurchase?
    Am I doing something wrong?
Is there anyway to integrate my previous surcode from pp2 into the cs3 or somehow utilise dolby in a cs3 project?
    thanks in advance

You need to call Minnetonka and tell them you upgraded and they will set you up

  • Digital Editions on iRex Digital Reader 1000?

    Hello,
iRex Technologies has just released their second generation e-reader, the Digital Reader 1000 (DR1000), with a 10.2 inch diagonal screen. They have a framework called the Universal Document Shell that allows 3rd parties to write document viewers that will plug into the DR1000. The DR1000 software development kit will be available the 1st week of October. Please port Digital Editions to the DR1000. I have been holding off on making too many DE purchases (only have 2 so far) until a larger screened reader came out. Its here but I now need to wait longer now for it to have ADE.
    Thanks,

Q: Will there be any additional formats supported in the future and how will this work?
A: Yes I imagine that additional format support will be added over time. We have separated functions from formats. A specific content format is rendered in the memory by a small rendering engine. The functions like zoom or bookmark are controlled by our Universal Document Shell or UDS. The UDS will load the correct rendering engine and tells it which page to render in the memory. When a specific function is not available for a specific format (e.g. increase font size in PDF), the UDS will disable this function in the menu.
This way third party developers will be able to easy add content plug-ins, which will be stored on the memory as add-ons. The advantage of this approach is that the user experience and interface will be consistent over all applications. Currently we support a PDF, Mobipocket, TXT and image plug-in.

I purchased an Ebook from McGraw-Hill while on my home computer. In the process of purchasing it, I was prompted to download Adobe Digital Editions, which I did. I am able to open the ebook on my home computer with Digital Editions, but I would like to copy/transfer the Ebook on to a CD or device. I copied the entire Digital Editions file, including the Ebook, onto a CD, but when I open the CD on another computer it does not include the Ebook.
How can copy the Ebook onto a CD/device and/or have access to the Ebook from a computer other than my home computer?
    Thanks,

Thanks,What are the other two digits?
If they're always '20', then concatenate '20' to your existing column (which I assume is a string):
'20' || a_columnIf the first 2 digits are '20' when the existing sting is in the range '00' to '49', but '19' when the existing string is in the range '50' to '99', then use the 'RR' date format:
    TO_CHAR ( TO_DATE (a_column, 'RR')
            , 'YYYY'
)but hurry; this will behave differently starting in 2050.
I hope this answers your question.
If not, post a little sample data (CREATE TABLE and INSERT statements, relevant columns only), and also post the results you want from that data.

  • IPod Touch Digital Output to Stereo Digital Input

Is there a way to connect an iPod touch to the digital input of a stereo amplifier? All the iPod connectors I've seen, including those for the universal dock, connect to stereos using analog RCA plugs. I'm trying to find a true digital to digital connector cable - without spending hundreds of dollars for one of the digital docks I've seen advertised.

Is there a way to connect an iPod touch to the digital input of a stereo amplifier?
There is no digital output on any iPod including the iPod Touch. Both outputs (via headphone jack and dock connector) are analogue.

  • Is it save to use digital output as a digital input signal for another channel

    Hi all,
I know this is a stupid question, but I do not have other signal generator by hand. So what I want to know is, can I use the digital output signal of my USB-6001 as an input signal for the same device but on other digital port? I did not try out directly because I do not want to burn the device down......
    Thanks
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I do loop backs all the time, especially in my test systems as a way of making sure my signal is making it to the UUT pin.  I typically throw in a 10k resistor just in case, but I have never had an issue.

  • Can you create a digital negative from a digital positive in Aperture?

    Hi everyone,
I'm wanting to make some cyanotypes and have converted images to B&W, but need to covert these to digital negatives so I can have them printed on acetate.
Is it possible to create a digital negative in Aperture?
    Thanks,
    Andrew

Using the solution supplied by Leonia, and cited by Keith, you can do the same thing (flopping the Curve profiles) in LightRoom. So, it makes sense. Though I didn't know know it worked for Color Negatives.
A friend of mine with a Nikon Coolscan is going to scan nearly 150 B&W rolls of 35mm negatives for me, and I want to import them all into Aperture, naming and keywording as I go. The objective is, of course, to have the convenience of a diigtal library. But also to have some made into large prints for framing.

I purchased Thor on Blu-ray + digital copy.  I tried transferring the movie to my MacPro tower, but the digital copy disk will not load.  I'm able to insert it and I can hear the drive trying to read it, but after about a min., it is ejected.  I also tried on two separate MacBook Pros.  All three machines are running 10.6.8.

Chris, if you read the full question, you'll see that I am referring to the "digital copy disc" which is a standard DVD.
