Dolby digital pass-through via digital input - static

anybody try to hook up a dolby digital 5.1 source (i'm using a dish network vip622 dvr receiver) into the mac mini's digital input and pass the signal through to the speakers connected to the mini? i'm doing this but all i get is static - presumably because there is no decoder inside the mini.

X-Fi Fatalty Pro cannot see 5. Dolby Digital input via Optical link. I am pumping my Xbox360 through the Digital I/O dongle and every thing works OK using Dolby Stereo, outputing to my 5. analog speakers. However, it does NOT work when choosing Dolby Digital 5.. My SPDIF tab just says unknown input.
Please help, this is very frustrating...

Ok, for those who also wanted to know the outcome, I though I'd post.
I was told that the dongle cannot decode 5. to analog, but the Dri've Upgrade and the Console Upgrade could (at $80/$80 vs. $5).
Great.
So what I want to know is this:? what chipset or connection is Creative putting in the Dri've Upgrade and Console Upgrade? It seems to me that the card should be doing the decoding, not the type of optical port. If it's getting the signal, then what is the problem? Is is that the flexijack cannot output/input 5. at all, only stereo?
Anyway, the Digital I/O dongle is going back, the thing is useless for my purposes. While I can hear 360 games fine, DVD's on it default to 5. if they have that type of audio, and there is no way to switch it to stereo; it gives me only silence then.
And mods, nothing in my frustration is with you; you seem to be very helpful and responsi've. I just wish the rest of the company would get on the ball.

• Dolby Digital input on the Audigy 2 Platinum P

I'm purchasing a component VGA converter so that I can play my video games on my monitor's screen, but I was wondering, does the sound blaster audigy 2 platinum pro support Dolby Digital input from these types of devices? And in order to do so, what devices, cables, and such would I have to purchase?

If it is a ps2 I think they have a opiocal out which you could plug into your optical in.

• Receive wireless signal and pass through via ethernet

Hi,
I'd like to know if it's possible to pass through internet via ethernet from a Time Capsule that receives a Wireless signal.
How can I do this?
Thanks!

Well, to be more specific, this a scheme of what I'm trying to do (it represents the floors in my house):

So;
- Telenet modem wired to D-link wireless router.
- D-link router to AE (wireless)
- AE to stereo (wired)
- D-link router to TC (wireless)
- TC to PC (wired)
- TC to printer (USB)
- D-link to tv (wired)
- D-link to Digibox (digital television - wired)
I want to be able to stream music from every device on the netwerk (iPad, iPhone, MBP, ..)
and print from every device. All music should be streamed from iTunes Library on TC.
I hope this is clear
Thanks in advance!

• Netflix titles not in Dolby Digital

I use a digital optical cable to connect my Apple TV to my Sony receiver because my TV does not support Dolby Digital pass-through via HDMI. I've discovered that Netflix titles won't play in Dolby Digital. I can verify this because my Sony's display shows LPCM.
I can get DD output from the same Netflix titles using my TV's Netfix app or my Sony receiver's Netflix app and I can also get DD output from purchased movies and TV shows on my Apple TV. The receiver displays "Dolby Digital".
Is it possible that the Apple TV isn't passing through DD from the netflix app?
Thanks!
David

To answer my own question and to those having the same issue, it turns out to be a bug in the latest Apple TV software update. Here's a similar discussion: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/6012766?start=0&tstart=0.

• Mac Mini - Dolby Digital Output?

I just bought a new Mac Mini (base configuration) to use as a HTPC. I also bumped the memory up to 8 GB. The mini works flawlessly. I copied my iTunes folder over and authorized the computer.
I placed the mini in the same place that I had a new AppleTV, attached it to the TV with an HDMI cable and to the receiver using a toslink to optical mini plug digital cable. Everything works great except the receiver indicates that the audio is “PCM” not Dobly 5.1.  When the Apple TV was connected to the receiver in the same way, playing the same movies, it always showed Dolby 5.1.
I also tried changing the audio out  to the HDMI cable and connected the receiver to the TV optical out port and I get the same thing.
Does the mini output Dolby? If so is there a setting I am missing?

There seems to be alot of issues with the new Minis
as far as Dolby/DTS pass through are concerned.  In one
of the threads in this forum, there was some mention that
a simultaneous HDMI and optical connection can create
this problem.  There was also some one who said an Apple
person told them that this is not possible on the new
Minis.  Others have found workarounds that sometimes work
for specific apps.
When all the posts are taken in total, it just seems no one
really knows what is going on and how to fix it, other than
finding a 2010 Mini laying around in a store somewhere and
getting it.

• ¿Does Audigy 2 NX decode Dolby Digital 5.

Hi,
I've purchased an Audigy 2 NX to connect my xbox 360 via optical sound wire and get Dolby Digital 5..
The problem starts here, i've connected the console to optical In (in the sound card) and i've connected the 5. via standart jacks (the 3 typical jacks), if i set Dolby Digital 5. mode on the xbox 360 i don't get any sound, but if i set it to Stereo Digital it sounds but only in 2. mode (front speakers).
The dolby digital led in the sound card never works, it's always off, it suposes to be on when it detects a Dolby Digital Input (like the 360 one's) but it always remains off.
How can i decode Dolby Digital 5. via optical in? In the sound card spec's says that this card is able to Decode DD 5. and 7., but it seems to be a lie!.

this soundcard does not decode from external source...so it won't work this way.

• I would like to connect my Apple TV to my receiver using an HDMI cable and pass thru dolby digital. I do not have optical inputs on my receiver.

I want to connect my Apple TV to my receiver using an HDMI cable. This should allow me to pass thru high definition video and simultaneously decode Dolby Digital material with an HDMI connection from my receiver to my TV without the use of an optical cable (my receiver does not have an optical input). I am unable to decode 5.1 material and don't understand why this is not working. In the audio setting I have Dolby Digital output turned on.

Welcome to the Apple Community.
Are you sure the content you are playing has Dolby Digital.

• IPhone Dolby Digital Pass-through

I can see from the Tech Specs of both the iPad 2 and 3 that they have the ability of Dolby Digital Pass-through using the Apple Digital AV Adaptor.
Can anyone confirm if the iPhone 4 or 4S also have this ability?
It's not specifically mentioned on their Tech Specs pages, but the hardware capabilities are almost identical.
Cheers.

• Encoding Dolby Digital 5.1 (AC3) sound in MP4 files using AC3 pass-through

Looking for an application that will encode Dolby Digital 5.1 (AC3) sound in an .mp4 container using AC3 pass-through for playing videos with surround sound on ATV.
Handbrake is out of the question because I run Tiger. The Tiger version cannot do AC3 pass-through.
Visual Hub is no longer available.
Any other options?

You may need Apple's MPEG2 QT plugin as well for MPEGStreamclip.
Also, consider if running windows in parallels/Boot Camp etc that there's a windows version, and possibly a linux version.
VisualHub code was released open source - Google FilRedux and PunyVid (iSquint derivative). Not tried either though.

• Dolby Digital 5.1 pass-through and Quicktime

All,
I have found a perplexing issue and I'm not sure what to make of it. I have some movies which, if played through my AppleTV and receiver, outputs Dolby Digital 5.1 quite nicely. If i take the same exact movie file and play it through Quicktime or iTunes (my computer is connected to my receiver via the optical cable), I don't get Dolby Digital.
Anyone have any ideas why this is?
Carlos

Quicktime does not support AC-3 passthrough (DD 5.1) which is what iTunes uses as framework. It does support AAC 5.1

• What settings need to be adjusted to send out Dolby digital ,DTS from inputs such as Netflix to the video output via an adaptor to HDMI?

Hi. I can only stream picture and PCM out of my Mac BookPro. What settings need to be adjusted to output Dolby Digital or DTS to an HDMI adaptor had thence onto my AV Processor?

The Audio Midi Setup utility may need to have its settings updated.
That's if you have the right adapter:

• ATV3 - I need to enable dolby digital for optical surround sound (netflix and home movies), but when I do this it stops audio coming through TV speakers

I have a cinema sound receiver connected to Apple TV via optical cable.  When I have dolby digital set to Auto it doesn't come through as dolby digital when watching movies on netflix and iTunes (home movies).
If I set Dolby Digital to ON it works as expected, but the sound stops working through normal TV speakers (via HDMI).  This is the same for netflix and home movies.
I tried 16 bit setting, but it made no difference.
Any advice on how I can get this working - meaning Dolby Digital always on for when I turn my surround sound on and sound through speakers for normal operation?
Obviously I can change the setting when needed, its just a pain.
Thanks in advance.

Hello everyone,
here is the friendly and signed driver installation method to enable Dolby Digital Plus in your Encore internal speakers only. This is not an official driver, there is no control panel for Dolby Digital Plus or various sound effects, but tested and has much better and richer surround sound quality as before with factory driver. I guess, this driver tweak can work with any Bay Trail tablet also.
How can you upgrade Encore sound drivers:
1. Download signed driver package and extract.
2. Open Device Manager.
3. Upgrade your Sound, Video and game controllers
- Intel SST Audio Device
- Realtek I2S Audio Codec
one by one with "Have a disk" method.
4. Double click enabledolby.reg file and add to your registry.
5. Restart, and enjoy better sound quality.
Thanks.

• Dolby digital via Toslink

Hardware
Mac mini (mid 2011)
Yamaha YAS-101
I've connected a mini to a Yamaha YAS-101 via Toslink hoping to receive Dolby Digital 5.1. The problem is that the YAS-101 detects the signal as stereo. I was under the impression that it shouldn't be a problem to achieve this via Toslink? Tested with Itunes and VLC.
The YAS-101 detects DD when playing a bluray from a PS3 so shouldn't be a problem there.
Thankful for any help.

If your Mac Mini has a HDMI port, it's one of the few Apple products that does audio (5.1) and video through the HDMI port.

• Decoding Dolby Digital via Optical

Can anyone tell me if it is possible to decode the digital signal from my satellite receiver via the optical in port on my Audigy Platinum? I hooked it up and all I got was basic surround, and yes, I was watching a movie on the receiver that was being broadcast in dolby digital.
Thanks for the info...

What do you mean "Basic Surround"?
As far as I know, it is possible with the Platinium dri'ves. Provided your receiver is sending RAW Un-decoded Dolby Digital signal to the dri've.
If it is already decoded, the signal being sent through the optical cable will only be received as Stereo..if I'm not mistaken.
Someone else with hands-on experience will have to give you a better confirmation, as I dont have a Platinium dri've before. But I know its possible.
