Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD

Anyone interested in seeing Compressor aquire the ability to encode TrueHD and/or DTS-HD?
Also, since Dolby's licenses are more expensive than DTS's, why hasn't Apple embraced DTS at all? Perhaps an exclusive with Dolby? It'd be nice to know for future planning on whether or not to plop down $1,500 on DTS's new HD software (http://www.dtsonline.com/pro-audio/press-article.php?ID=613177079&cID=9&yID=2006)

Please visit the link I provided. It will answer most of your questions about Dolby-E.
(basically it is an editing and distribution format within the broadcast network, the home user never gets Dolby-E. It is re-encoded to Dolby Digital at time of broadcast.
In the originating production studio (yours, if you have the bucks for the hardware encoder) the 5.1 audio files are encoded straight to Dolby-E, (not AC3 Dolby Digital). This produces a frame based 5.1 encoded file suitable for editing.)

  • TrueHD and DTS HD MAster

    Hi,
I am about to buy a Mac. it is either going to be a new Mac Mini or a 2010 Imac 27 inch i3 (3.2ghz). My question is simple really.
Are either of these capable of playing an MKV with HD audio like DTS HD Master or Dolby True HD through my amp which is capable of decoding?
All the mac would need to do is pass the sound through (probably via HDMI as toslink isnt fast enough)
Is it possible on either device?

    >HDCP Monitor with at least a 080P resolution
Not necessarily true. As long as the Image Constraint Token isn't enabled on the disc, it should playback at full res over analogue VGA. Ideally you'd need 600x200 for the full horizontal resolution. as the 6:9 area on a 4:3 monitor at this resolution would be 080 lines high. A 280x024 4:3 VGA monitor has a 6:9 area of 280x720 which is 720p which should be sufficient. Some people with the Toshiba HD-A connect to 720p projectors.
    >HDCP HDMI ver .3 and/or DVI-D Cables
    >HDCP Video Card (with the HDCP chip onboard...not just on the GPU)
HDCP is only essential for digital playback over DVI or HDMI unless the Image Constraint Token (ICT) is turned on or the Digital Only Token ( DOT ) in which case you'll need a HDCP compatible monitor and graphics card.
    >HDCP 64-bit OS (aka Vista Ultimate Edition most likely)
The Toshiba Qosimo and Sny Vaio laptops with HD-DVD and Blu-Ray playback capability use WInDVD8 HD on a regular WIndows XP version. A special graphics driver to support HDCP is required from nVidia and ATi.
    >HDCP HD DVD and Blu-Ray Software Player (ie nVIDIA Pure Video HD with WMP?)
    >MPEG4/H.264 or VC- codecs (most likely contained in the above media player?)
You'll definitely need a player and the players will come with their own codecs. Apparently next gen DVD formats won't support DirectShow filter chains for playback for added security.
    >HD DVD-ROM and/or BD-ROM dri've capable of playing back the movies in progressi've mode.
Well the progressi've mode has nothing to do with the ROM/Writer dri've. That's just the format 'tis stored on the disc. The progressi've/deinterlacing will be done by the codec in conjunction with the graphics hardware or by the display.

  • T420 and Dolby TrueHD / DTS HD Master Audio Passthrough / Bitstream

I am having trouble getting Dolby TrueHD or DTS HD Master Audio to bitsream from my T420 and hopefully you guys can shed some light. Currently I am using a displayport->HDMI adapter to input into my Pioneer Elite vsx-21txh receiver which in turn outputs to my 50" Toshiba TV. I can bitstream standards DTS and Dolby Digital no problem and get discrete surround sound, however when I try to play sources with DTS HDMA or Dolby TrueHD, the receiver doesn't recognize that there is a lossless signal and still decodes only the core DTS or DD.
I'm running windows 7, my receiver supports the HD lossless audio formats, and according to the "Playback device" properties on the T420's HDMI audio device, it also lists "DTS HD" and "Dolby TrueHD" under its encoded formats. My Nvidia driver is a bit old (268.71), however I don't think that is the issue...
Has anyone had experience outputting HD audio on the T420? Any help would be greatly appreciated...

Might be the NVS drive they updated and I tested it recently after its been out for very long time. See my Thread on it which is still current.

  • MacBook Pro: How to connect to a Dolby TrueHD receiver?

    Hi there,
As there are more and more Blue-ray video's coming out these days I decided I want to switch to blue-ray. Since I own a MacBook Pro (model 2009) I need to attach an external one.
Though, what I wonder is how to get the best audio quality of my mac. Most blue-rays support Dolby TrueHD, and my receiver has an optical in for that. But how can I connect my MacBook Pro to my receiver, so that it truly is Dolby TrueHD (or DTS-HD Master Audio for that matter).
    Thanks!
p.s. Specific brands or types of cables are appreciated, as I guess I'll have to go to the shop to get something.

I'm not sure if I'm reading this correctly (as your MacBook Pro can't play Blu-Ray DVD's) but you can connect the MBP Digital output to the receiver using a Toslink cable like this:

  • X-Fi XtremeGamer Fatal1ty Pro Series - hardware DD and DTS decod

Do I understand correct that hardware Dolby Digital and DTS decoding?is blocked in drivers for this card??Bundled PowerDVD 6.0 doesn't support Dolby Digital EX, DTS-ES and also Dolby Pro Logic IIx, DTS NEO:6... Sincerely yours,Pavel

Actually, support is in the Creative Audio Console (which is part of the driver suite for all Creative sound cards), and is especially true for Windows Vista, as it has been since Windows 2000 Professional. Part of the problem with Windows Vista is that direct hardware access (even for audio) is headed off at the pass, and thus driver support (and application support) needs to be rewritten to realize that. PowerDVD is expecting an interface (that is no longer there).

  • Can't get Dolby and DTS options to work

    Hi!
Could anyone help me with my new Sound Blaster Z soundcard. I can't get Dolby and DTS options to work with my optical cabel under Cinematic tab in Pro Studio. I've googled enough, tried basically everything. Cinematic tab was never greyed out from the beginning. It either gave me intense, very high pitch noice when you acticated Dolby or DTS options or now... giving error which states:
"The SPDIF-out (Sound Blaster Z) device is currently being used by another application. Please close any application that may be playing audio to this device and try again."
I've re-installed drivers numerous times, tried different Windows operating system (7 and 8.1). Speakers (Sound Blaster Z) is made as default device, other stuff is disabled. I seriously don't know what to do, I'm god **** frustrated, because apart from Cinematic tab not working the sound isn't that great compared to my integrated motherboard soundchip.
// If it matters my speakers are Edifier S530D

    Hi Kimbie,
Are you able to play back mp3 audio tracks?
I'm suspecting you are trying to play back encoded content.
Do share more details here so that I can assist you further.
    Cheers,
    Colin-CL

  • Dolby Digital Live and DTS Connect Pack not installing at all!!

I have (unfortunately) a Soundblaster X-Fi X-treme audio soundcard hooked up through an optical cable to my Inspire 5.1 Digital 5700 receiver. Of course, the sound card doesn't come with a Dolby Digital decoder, so it must be purchased seperately through Creative. Well, I downloaded (and PAID FOR) the software here after viewing and MAKING SURE my f'ing card was listed: http://buy.soundblaster.com/_creativ...DDN6Z2H2ADDEZD
However, when I go to install it the installer says "setup is unable to detect a supported product on your system" then closes. So that's fantastic. No explanations, no nothing. I have a supported card, updated drivers, but the software THAT I PURCHASED FROM CREATIVE simply is not detected. Of course, finding technical support from Creative is like finding water in the desert, so I am here. Can anyone please help me with this? I am about to call my bank and deny the $5.00 transaction if I cannot get this fixed, I've been working on it for two freaking hours now. ANY HELP is greatly appreciated.

Well, I had a reply typed and clicked "reply" but of course it asked me to log in again and lost my response. It seems their forums are quite awful as well. Suffice it to say, my soundcard is listed here: http://buy.soundblaster.com/_creativ...DDN6Z2H2ADDEZD where I purchased the product. My receiver is capable of playing DVD's in Dolby Digital, and all modern games support it, so I was of the understanding that all I needed was this DTS encoder.
I was quite angry when I wrote the post, as I couldn't get it to work, their tech support is abysmal (almost non-existent) and there were literally no instructions, it simply gave me the error and booted me. I have written a complaint to the better business bureau and will never again purchase another Creative product. They can $hit on consumers all they like, but consumers like me (and daniel_k it seems) will not forget so easily.

  • X-fi Console launcher - DD and DTS icons g

    Hi,
I've got X-fi xtreme music card and recently i noticed that these icons have gone from the lower left corner of the applicaiton.
I tried to play some DTS/DD content from the PS3 but the decoding did not work.
Is it the same for you guys? I have not tested on some other the optical cable yet but that change is the only thing i can think of that could also be the source of the problem.
    Thanks for any pointers.

That's not cool.Anyway, if in this time you would have read the features of your product you would found this:The Sound Blaster X-Fi sound card deli'vers THX? certified surround sound and includes Cyberlink [color="#ff3300">PowerDVD software with DTS? and Dolby Digital?-EX decoding via [color="#ff3300">free download for an unbeatable DVD movie watching experience. When I checked back my post was already at the bottom of the page, and some people may not look that far, so I bumped it to keep it towards the top, that ok with you?
What makes you think I didn't read the features associated with the card? I even stated that in my original post. My question was about the fact that the help file contained those options in it, and even the images on the box for the card had those options showing, and yet I didn't have them. I did not know that the help file was generic to every X-fi card out there.
So thanks for responding even though you tried to take a few shots along the way.

  • Ac3 and dts file import?

    Can Soundtrack import these files?
I've been given two NTSC (23.98 fps) audio files (one is 5.1 Dolby Digital EX .ac3 and the other is 6.1 DTS-ES .dts) that I need to use in a PAL 25fps DVD Studio Pro project.
Any suggestions as to how to change the frame rate to match my PAL encodes?
I originally posted this question in the DVD Studio Pro forum but now feel it's better suited here (my apologies).

Max has got you covered. However, I would try to avoid using JPEG files as they tend to end up looking pretty low quality when encoded to MPEG2 (as they wil be when you build the disc). If you can create .tiff files instead, or even .pict then you be better off.
The process of creating a menu is not hard, but can seem intricate for a first time user. I would suggest, as Max does, that you add a standard menu and use the templates provided for now. Delete all but two of the buttons and label the two remaining as 'AC3' and 'DTS'. You could add your image to the background of the menu, if you like, however two different image files would come in handy...
If you add a .pict file to a track then it will appear as a still image. Set your audio for the track as one of the file types. Now in your menu point the relevant button to that track.
Create a second track and add a different .pict file for the visual - maybe a picture which tels the viewer which kind of audio they are listening to - and add the other audio file to that track. In your menu point the other button to this second track.
There are other ways to do this, such as using two audio streams in a single track and using the menu buttons to switch between them, however the above method should get you closer to what you want without getting too technical.
    Welcome to the discussions!

  • NO Dolby Digital or DTS- Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS Platinum

So after doing a clean install from Win XP to 7 PRO I now no longer can get dolby digital or dts through my speakers via toslink (optical, whatever u want to call it) . I have the latest win 7 drivers, tried reinstalling drivers using compatability mode (vista sp2), and configured it to play on on only digital outputs, spidf decode, set spdif output as my default device, set speakers to 5., and all combinations of that.
I am also using the k lite codec pack and playing videos using media player classic.
However, If i test dolby digital through? windows sound options it will detect and play the sample sound in dolby digital but my movies, etc will not when play through MPC.
    PLEASE HELP!

? You are needing to do AC-3 passthrough and you may want to use the Shark Codec Pack instead of K-Lite. Instructions for Shark's pack are here:

  • Where is the power dvd dolby digital ex dts download?

can anyone tell me where to find the download for dolby digital dts power dvd for x fi extreme gamer soundcard? is this lost in cyberspace? please help me find my way. thanks, Andy.

When you play a movie the thing i like about the xfi soundcard is a small feature that creative introuced it tells me the audio stream its playing (an icon at the bottom near the clock) and it only displays for a few seconds.
Most moi'ves i brough advertise Dolby digital EX or DTS ES. When i play them i find mostly the creative decoder tells me otherwise. The creative decoder identifies the stream and displays it at the bottom and i find that most movies that advertise the DTS ES or DD EX are not Dolby digital EX or DTS ES but just dolby digital 5. or DTS 5.. The only movies i have so far that are dolby digital EX are starwars episode 5 and 6 (despite ,2,3 and 4 claim to be but not), the punisher, and the only DTS 6. so far is top gun (my movie collection is small as well). but unless the creative decoder is identiftying the audio streams wrong which i doubt i so far. only some of my movies state the correct audio stream on the dvd.
Have a look at the icon that appears when playing the movie and see if it says either dolby digital, dolby digital ex, dts surround or dts surround es, if its displays either Dolby Digital EX or DTS Surround ES then they are 6. streams if they are not then they are 5. which might be why your not hearing anything out the back speaker.Message Edited by Stargazer on 0-06-2006 :5 AM

  • Question for Dolby Digital and

Hello. I have a SoundBlaster Platinum soundcard,DDTS-00 Decoder and GigaWorks S750 speakers and I have a problem when seeing movies from my PC.When I use the speakers with Playstation2 with optical cable when the movie has Dolby Digital or DTS sound the option on the decoder turns on that shows the sound mode. When I'm using the speakers with PC and I connect them with coaxial or optical cable and I choose from the sound menu of the DVD program (Cyberlink DVD)what sound I want the option on sound mode of the Creative decoder doen't change. What is going on?Could you tell me what to do?I think that I hear Dolby Surround and not Dolby Digital Neo:6 and DTS:ES. Thank you.Message Edited by pangef on 07-8-2006 06:38 AM

With your PC, set it up to S/PDIF. This way it by passed all software decoding and leaves it to your speakers .
IMHO, if people have speakers that can decode DD 5./DTS then use S/PDIF all the way
I have tested useing software decoders and then using S/PDIF pass through and found the sound is better via S/PDIF.
    Hope that hel

  • X-fi Xtrememusic doesn't have the bottoms of DD and DTS in the audio console

    Hellow every body!....
I have a little problem with the Creative X-fi Xtrememusic OEM that I bought...:
) The issue is that when the card is instaled withthe drivers, I notice that the windows detect the sound card as a X-fi audio, and not with the name of x-fi xtreme music.... this is normal? all the x-fi are detected as a x-fi audio?... Because this card that I have, is the xtrememusic sure.... because the audio is blue and its diferent like the sound card that I have...
    2) Thats is the light problem.... Now the heavy xD: After installed the sound card I notice that in the audio console there is NO bottoms of the options "DD and DTS"... this sections are missing...
I try to uninstall the cd drivers... download the last drivers of this page... and when the last drivers are installed... there is no audio console and nothing.... only the driver and a old audio console... (not the with moder audio console that shows up in the current x-fi)
    - Know I format my PC and I installed all again.... and the same problems shows up...
I have the windows xp ue v7....
Any how can help me? I don't know what to do... I try anything and nothing works...

when did you purchase this xtrememusic? if I don't remember wrongly.... the newer refresh doesn't have dd and dts decoding anymore and have to use the included powerdvd to do it. only the older refresh of xtrememusic include dd/dts decoding via creative driver. furthermore yours is an oem version....it may also have different function/feature. you can try searching the CD and see if there is any folder by the name of "PDVD" or something?with?"dvd",?can't?really?remember?the?ex act?name... if?the?CD?you?have?have?this?folder,?then?you?won' t?have?the?ddd/dts?function?in?the?audio?console.
