Domain name fowarding to my iWeb page.

the company I secured my domain name with asks for a PRIMARY and SECONDARY SERVER HOST NAME. do i use: http://web.mac.com/[YourMemberName]? the space to put this information has
ns.infoservemedia.com
ns2.infoservemedia.com
in the box
Macbook Pro 2GHz 2GB memory   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

The stuff they are asking for is not relevant or possible for .Mac. You need to tell them you want Domain Forwarding, where you provide the url of your site (http://web.mac.com/username) and that's all. If they won't do it or can't understand it, find another host.

  • Using a domain name with .mac and iWeb

How does one go about linking a domain name to the iWeb pages/ .mac account?
In other words, I don't want to have to give out the long web.mac.com/blahblahblah/site
name, I'd like to just have a domain name.

I have replied to your thread over here...

You might want to have a look at the public DNS service that I posted about.
What you are looking for is basically a domain name server that will accept your domain name and be able to translate the words into the numbers like you mention. That's what DNS servers do. There are LOTS of DNS servers on the internet and once you get your domain name hooked into one the information will propagate within days if not hours, making your domain name functional.
Anyways, look back at the thread you started and you'll see my post there... we'll start there and get you squared away sooner or later, i'm sure.

  • Is there a way to get a domain name if im using iweb?

ok, i have beeen working really hard on this website i made on iweb, but i do not want it to have the "www.apple......." how can i buy my domain name to make it whatever name i want it to be ... " .com"
is there a way to transfer an iweb site to a domain name?

    A website at dotMac is:
    http://web.mac.com/YourdotMacID/
Using a domain of your own is [regularly discussed|http://discussions.apple.com/search.jspa?objID=c188&search=Go&q=domai n+webhost] in this forum.
How you publish to such domain is explained in the iWeb Help:
    +*Using your own domain name*+
+If you purchased your own domain name (for example, www.example.com) from a service provider, you can use that URL for websites you create with iWeb.+
+These instructions are for sites published to .Mac. If you aren’t publishing to .Mac, see:+
+Publishing to a server or hosting service other than .Mac ►+
+To use your own domain name for a site published to .Mac:+
    +Choose File > Set Up Personal Domain.+
+If you are connected to the Internet, the .Mac website opens in your web browser.+
+On the .Mac website, follow the onscreen instructions.+
+It may take a few hours or a few days for forwarding to take effect. If you open iWeb after forwarding has taken effect, your personal domain appears at the bottom of the iWeb window. After you publish your site, you can announce the new URL to your visitors with an announcement email.+
+If iWeb is open when forwarding takes effect, you won’t see your personal domain at the bottom of the iWeb window until after you publish your site.+

  • Do you NEED iWeb'08 to publish to .Mac under your domain name?

    Hi everyone,
I want to publish my site to my .Mac space under my own domain name: do I need iWeb'08 to do that?
The rest I prefer to do myself: design my site from scratch editing the html code -I believe you can't do that with iWeb, right?
I'm asking because in my case getting iLife'08 would mean a major upgrade. I'm not even sure that would run smoothly on my old machine...
    Thanks in advance...

Good News. You should be able to use your personal domain with the '06 edition, Just go to your .mac preferences click personal domains and follow the instructions. You will have to point your domain name to .mac from you registrars account page - It's pretty just follow the instructions on the personal domains link -

  • Problems hosting iWeb with domain name.

I have a business web site that I host with iWeb08 using a domain name. I had the domain name working perfectly with iWeb. I would log on to my web site via my domain name and all my content was there as I expected. Whenever I upload a new addition to the web site I always click "view published site" which is taking me to http://web.me.com/username/pages and everything is there as I expected it. Recently, I went to my web site via my domain name and realized that all my recent updates are not being hosted online (with domain name). web.me is fine though. I checked the registration on my domain name and it is active. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance

Are you using url forwarding? If so, perhaps you changed your mobile me site in a way that requires you to change your forwarding as well.
Could you provide both urls so we can see the differences you are talking about?

  • Need to see the domain name displayed at the admin console login page

I used to see the domain name at the console login page until I was running WLS 8.1 SP3.
Now that I have SP5 I am not able to see it anymore, I am curious to know what has caused this error.
If anyone has an answer , please reply .

    Hi,
For accessing any application outside domain you need to have Public IP of the server where your you have put your application.

  • Unable to view purchased domain names.

I thought I would start here first. I have several web sites that I have done for clients using iWeb and then purchased a domain name from 123cheapdomains.com. After I did some text editing with iWeb on one of the sites I can no longer get to the site. I can get there using the long iWeb URL but not the official one. This would lead me to believe that this must be an issue on 123cheapdomains.com site with a forwarding problem? I need these sites up and just thought I would post incase anyone else was having any problems.

    sequense...
In your forwarding setup, make sure to only submit your short iWeb URL.... http://web.mac.com/yourdotmacname/
This way, you can make changes to your webpage (adding pages, etc) and not have to worry about your forwarding changing. What happened is that you have your domain name forwarded to a specific page URL probably, and that URL has changed and is not invalid.
With your short iWeb URL, you can always be sure that people are forwarded to your default start page as set in iWeb. So go back to your domain forwarding setup and change the forwarding URL to your short iWeb URL.
    Good luck!

  • IWeb pages not posting since MobileMe insued

How can I get iWeb to publish my new web pages? I have several different pages on iWeb, each with an external web address that redirects to that page. The two pages that I created after MobileMe took the place of .mac will not publish. They cannot be found and the redirect for those do not work. I keep getting a message that says they do not exist. Additionally, when I try to visit any of my pages from the "visit" link on iWeb, I get the same error page.
    www.simplydelightfulcreations.com
    http://web.mac.com/SalomesSimply_DelightfulCreations

    Thanks.
As far as I can tell, I have all of the software updates. I have my system set to check for updates daily and I haven't seen any new ones for mobileme recently.
How do I change my pages to web.me.com/username/sitename? I am in iWeb and try to visit my pages from the program. If the program itself will not update the pages/rename everything to .me instead of .mac after I make changes, how can I? If I type in the domain name that forwards to the page (selenacozart.com), it will go to the page that I created before the change. I don't understand why it is more complicated and opaque since the "update" to mobileme.

  • The publishing settings page does not open when I click on the domain name and the iWeb application will not stay on the dock.

    Hello,
I have been trying to help a friend who is having problems publishing her website. (She has done so previously using Mobile me)
There seem to be a couple of things wrong with the application,
1     if I drag the application icon onto the dock, it won't stay there
2     I wanted to change where her site is published to (she has bought a domain name and has a hosting service now) but when I click on the domain name I do not get the "site publishing settings page" so we can't enter the new details.  All that comes up is the main page of her website.
I would suggest uninstalling and re-installing Iweb, to see if that clears the problem, but as Iweb came pre-installed with her Imac, I am not sure that we can do this.
    Any ideas please?
she's using and imac 24 in (approx 4 years old) and running osx 10.5.8

NO - not correct.  Even if you are still using iWeb 08, you can still publish to another host and not MobileMe.  You do this by selecting the option 'Publish to a local folder" and this will publish the site to your desktop and you can then use an ftp programme such as Cyberduck to upload your site to your host.
MobileMe will not be here after the end of June, so you will have to find alternative hosting.  They are not taking any new subscriptions.
On new Macs, iLife 11 is pre-installed, but only iPhoto, iMovie and GarageBand are included, not iWeb and iDVD. The Apple Online store is not selling the boxed version of iLife 11 any longer, so if you want to upgrade to iLife, then you'll have to look online at Amazon.com or Amazon.co.uk for a boxed set of either iLife 09 or iLife 11.  Both contains iWeb 09, which is what you would want.

  • I have a domain name with go-daddy can i use iweb to create my page?

I'm trying to help a friend set-up a website.  he has a domain name with go-daddy but hasnt set-up the web page at all can i use iweb and upload it to the domain name he already has bought?  I'm a first time iweb user please help!!

Your friend needs both a domain name and a web hosting account in order to get his website online.  If he has both with GoDaddy.com then yes, you can create and upload the site.
If he has purchased only a domain name he'll need to get a hosting service.

  • Pointing a Domain Name at my iWeb Pages

    Hi All
I am pretty sure I've got the Podcasting thing sussed, apart from the RSS thing which of course good old iweb does for you, my question is this: Can I purchase a domain name of my choosing and then point it at my iWeb pages thereby using the RSS feed that iWeb automatically produces, or is it frowned upon to do such things? My podcasts will be video but nothing dodgy, just car stuff
    Thanks
    A.L.I

yes, that will work perfectly. if you get a domain, here is how you could "forward" or "point it to" you .mac page:

  • Iweb was not publishing changes to my personal domain name, AND now it won't let me publish at all!

Hi, i am new to the apple community so bare with me whilst i struggle to explain...
I recently purchased a hosting site through netregistry.net.  www.toyboxtherapies.com.au I spoke to them to allow the changes to the CNAME through their site. They did this for me. Once they did this my original 3 page site that I had published to mobileme came up.
When i added changes to the site, none of them were published even though iweb said they had been. I gave the site 48 hours (well, i gave them a week) to update the changes.
I went to double check today and now iweb wont let me publish to my domain name at all, it just lists File>Set up personal domain on mobile me.
When I log into mobile me my domain name is there. I have tried removing t and setting it up again, but nothing is happening with iweeb. Still the same problem.
Please help! I am trying to get this business off the ground and its all very frustrating!

This is what I see in a Lookup :
    ; <<>> DiG 9.6-ESV-R4-P3 <<>> www.toyboxtherapies.com.au cname +multiline +nocomments +nocmd +noquestion +nostats +search
    ;; global options: +cmd
    www.toyboxtherapies.com.au. 3600 IN CNAME web.me.com.
It means that the CNAME record points to MobileMe.
So go where you manage your domain and delete the CNAME record and change the  A-record(s) to point to your new webhost.
It takes some time for the changes to propagate thru the internet. A minimum of 20 minutes.
Note that when you publish to MobileMe, iWeb recieves the domainname information from the MobileMe server. Only when you publish elsewhere you have to enter the domainname. But if you do not change the settings where you host your domainname, it still directs to MMe. But that's beyond iWeb.

  • Domain name does not link to index page.

Having a lot of difficulty publishing to FTP, have researched many forums and unable to find answers. Whether I publish to FTP via iWeb or Cyberduck, my domain name danbaileymusic.com shows a 403 Forbidden Error. However if i type in danbaileymusic.com/index or /music, ect it loads. The whole site functions fine, but the domain name does not link to the index page.
In Cyberduck all permissions have been turned on. Also I noticed that when publishing to a local folder, iWeb creates a folder "danbailey" and an index.html. This index page does not work in Cyberduck, however the index page that is WITHIN the folder "danbailey" does work, but it doesn't link to the domain name.
Please help! I've been working on this for weeks and cannot figure out why the domain name is not working!

It only creates the page names with first letter capitalized (as in Index not index) I have tried changing it from the sidebar and from the Page Name in the Inspector -- typing "index" comes back as "Index" It's easy enough to change the "I" to an" i" at the file level (which did fix the problem) but doing this also breaks all the links I have to "Index.html" Fixing this on the creation side would be ideal. Thoughts?
I am using iWeb '09 v.3.0.1 if that makes a difference

  • .Mac gallery in iweb site with custom domain name

This is my first post on the boards and I want to say that switching from pc to mac has been one of the greatest moves of my life. Anyways Im a photographer and have my own domain name. Ive created a site in iweb with .mac photo galleries on it. To upload the site I used an external ftp loader. The site looks great but when I click on the galleries it takes me to the .mac gallery page and there is no link to get back to the home page.

When you create the link to a .Mac gallery, check the box "Open link in new window" in the "link" inspector.

  • Problem with iWeb after associating a personal domain name with my MobileMe

I think I did this by the book. I associated my personal domain name with my MobileMe account, then changed the CName pointer at GoDaddy to MobileMe (MM), then went back to MM and hit 'Done'. iWeb now lists my MM account as 'My account name (personal domain name). It took a little while for the DNS pointer to propogate, but now I can go to a browser, type in my personal domain name, and MM delivers my iWeb website as I wanted it to, apparently from my domain, not web.me.com. The problem is, as soon as the DNS propogated, MM delivers my MM site OK, but iWeb can't find the files for it anymore. All my pages immediately went red (unpublished) when I tried to update the site, and any attempt to Publish gives me this error "iWeb couldn’t connect to MobileMe. Make sure your Internet connection works and try again." I'm cable connected to an ADSL router, and Airport connected to a cable router, and neither service has dropped out. I've rebooted, and retried, and the website is up under my own domain, so GoDaddy and MM both got it right. What did I do wrong? Thanks, someone... anyone?

This is now sort of resolved, but not very satisfactorily. One of the trainers at my local Appple Store found an old support issue in the archives going back to 2008, which blamed security settings for update problems. Coincidental with associating MobileMe with my personal domain, I had checked the privacy box and added an ID and PW to the site. That was the problem, not the personal domain, that was preventing iWeb from finding my MM account. Uncheck that box and my site happily updates. Of course, now I have a site that I cannot make private. In this case, not a show-stopper, but disappointing. I have reported it as a bug in the latest version of iWeb. Thanks for your help.
