Domain name quick question

if i upload my site using the iweb FTP client will it show just the domain name that i bought from someone else or is it going to include other things?
like i want it to be just
www.domainname.com
and not
web.me.com/Firstname_lastname/www.domainname.com

so if i do use the FTP client it will just show
www.domainname.com
Correct?
As you were told before, normally the browser address bar will show www.domainname.com/sitename/pagename.html
also i heard that if you make a blog and you are not hosting threw mobile me, nobody can post,
is this true?
Blog comments are only available if hosting on MobileMe. An alternative for other hosts is Haloscan.

Is there an easy way to rename the current domain name (without serious impact) we have running with the AdminServer ?

  • Domain configuration - quick question

    Hi All
We performed a silent installation on WebLogic Server 10.3.6
What is the scripting way to configure a domain after installation ?
Can we do it in shell scripting or WLST or other methods we are unaware of (outside of GUI manual clicks installation) ?

  • Lync 2013 FE server certificate - different domain name

    Hi,
I am implementing a small Lync infrastructure with the following components in a Resource Forest - Account Forest type implementation with a bi-directional Trust between the two forests:
      1 x Lync 2013 FE Standard,   1 x Mediation server  and  1 x Office Web App server
Both AD forests have their PKI CAs, the certificate on the FE server is signed by the CA from the Account domain. All servers and workstations have both Root certificates implemented.
User’s SIP domain name (account forest) is different from the FE server (resource forest) domain name.
Question: When internal users sign-in to Lync they get a warning prompt as follows:
“Lync cannot verify that the server is trusted for your sign-in address. Connect anyway?”
Users can select to connect and everything functions correctly, however, I would like to get rid of the warning message at the beginning.
Any idea what may be wrong, is something missing on the certificate ?
    Thanks for your help,
    Luca

You can try to edit the internal web services FQDN and ensure your other populated DNS records point to a FQDN that matches the sip domain, or use the TrustModelData workaround here:http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2833618

  • Quick Question - Setting up Personal Domain with godaddy

    Hi there
Just a quick question to make sure I've done this correctly?
Ok, I've published my iWeb website.
I've purchased a personal domain with godaddy.
I've set up the personal domain in my mobile me account.
I then logged into my godaddy account and went to 'Total DNS Control and MX Records'
I changed the following under CNAME (Aliases)
    www web.me.com 1 Hour
and then added a new CNAME Record
    www.*******.com web.me.com 1 Hour
Have I done this all correctly?
Will it take a few hours to take effect?
Anything else I need to consider?
    Thanks for reading.
    Ross

CNAME settings can take up to 24 hours to take effect.
As long as you have forwarded your domain name to web.me.com, then it should be okay.

  • Iweb/Domain name question

    Hi,
I am making my first Iweb site. I want to host the site through IWeb, but want to be sure I can use the simple domain name I own as the address, rather than a long www.mobileme.myname.domainname.com address. I see instructions involing setting up an alias on with the domain name provider, but wanted to ask around first.
Also, do you know if I can host more than one website through Iweb.
thanks for any and all help!
I have sent these questions to Apple support, but no response yet. I gather the new Iphone is taking up a lot of their tech support time.
    Kim

the url instantly changes and is long.
This is the way CNAME pointing works with .Mac. If you like you can make things shorter by shortening the names you give your site and pages.
Your "url", namely what people need to type to get to your site, is of course just the short version. What appears in the browser address bar is really irrelevant, but if it matters a lot to you, then you can undo everything you did for CNAME and switch to ordinary url forwarding/masking. With that, for every page on your site only www.myname.com will appear in the browser address bar for every page.

  • Question about Mail app and domain name please help

    Hi,
I wasn't sure where to post this question so figured this would be the best area. I have a website which uses bluehost as it's web hoster. My email is set up through them, such as [email protected]
In my Mail app, I have the POP thing set up so when ever someone emails me it goes right to the Mail app. It works great for my personal computer, but when I go to work and go on other computers is where the problem is.
When I am on a random computer at work, I have to sign onto my webhosting site and then use squirrel mail. It is quite a hastle and is not the best. I would love to use gmail, but still keep my domain name I have.
One co-worker mentioned just forwarding all my [email protected] emails to my new gmail email. There are issue's with doing this because if I'm at work and email someone with gmail it will use that email address. Also, I want to be able to read all my sent messages from any computer including the sent messages that were within my Mail app. Is this possible?
Besides forwarding is there a better solution? It is sort of hard to explain. Basically I want my [email protected] address to be run through gmail, be able to access on any computer, have it be the only address in my mail app, and most importantly have the sent messages from mail app to be able to be read on all computers.
I think gmail lets you make a domain name email, without gmail being included at the end. But I already have the email address made...am I able to just swap it? And keep all my mail inbox info?
What's the best sollution for my problem?
    Thanks

You would need to login to your web mail account to reply so that the email came from "[email protected]"
I try to get a gmail address that is close to the domain name like - [email protected] - so that I don't have to bother opening web mail as it is a pain.
I forward to Gmail and then Mac Mail because their spam blocker is the best.
A lot of web mail addresses bounce mail because the capacity is limited and the owners don't go into their control panel to launch their web mail and clear out the old stuff. Lawyers, in particular, are famous for this. For this reason I don't set web mail to keep a copy of the forwarded mail. If my web mail gets full of spam and they start bouncing then its not my problem!

  • Domain name settings - Newbie question

    Sorry for a newbie question!
I am already pointing a domain name to web hosting for email account. Now, I need an application server to run ERP software and Oracle, and installing Solaris and Oracle need a domain name.
If I point my domain name to the server, how do I receive emails from web hosting???
Install an email server to the application server instead? What can I do if I want the same domain name? Any option?

Setting up a mailserver and making sure it doesn't suddenly turn into a spambox is not something you do with the use of a few commands. I suggest to dive into the Solaris admin guide on docs.sun.com and read up on e-mail and network services.
If that is asking too much of your time you'll be better off getting your ISP to handle all this for you.

Your questions are completely off-topic for the forum.
These SunOS forums are for questions on <i>"how do I install my OS"</i>
You particular question is in the <i>"how can I install Solaris while using the CD drive"</i> forum.
So, if you had a question on how to edit the /etc/inet/hosts file to establish a FQDN on the computer, then it might be appropriate for the forum.
Unfortunately, I don't have a clue on where to redirect you, except perhaps to the Sun Java Enterprise System suite of applications?

  • Question about domain name and .mac

my wife and i are going to move to London and we want a website to update people. now it would be a lot easier to say, "oh, just go to www.domainx.com". (with domainx being whatever domain we buy) rather than saying, "oh go to mac.homepage.iweb.ilife.joseph.page1.com" or whatever massive name they choose. now i would like to publish to .mac because of what they allow you to do. is there anyway i could buy domainx.com and when they go to domainx.com it will send them to my .mac published site. i hope you understand the question. i don't want to be limited by domainx.com but i want the luxury of that short domain name. any help would be amazing. thanks so much!

  • Question about RAC 10g on server running AIX and domain name changes

We have several 10g clusters running on IBM p-Series AIX servers, and our company is changing the domain name for our network. I am concerned that if we do not change the domain names in the TNSNAMES.ora file and also the /etc/hosts file on each server, the cluster will no longer function. We are using CRS (version 10.2.0.3) and ASM within each cluster.
Does anyone know where I can find information about changing the domain name that was set up as part of the CRS and database installs for RAC? Does anyone have experience doing this, and would be willing to share a few insights? Thanks in advance for any advice you can give!

You may be able to use the VIPCA utility for RAC to change or modify the public and private settings for your domain names on AIX. Also, the Oracle 10g DBCA "Database Configuration Assistant" should be of use to change your settings for your RAC environment.
Also, see here for a good IBM Redbook that covers Oracle 10g RAC on AIX platforms:

  • Iweb domain names question

Can anyone explain how i can use .mac... iLife etc, to make a personalised Domain name...
    so a name like http://web.mac.com/andrews_artcakes
    can become
    www.andrewscakes.com
    (more professional)
I thought that the iweb2.0 allowed you to do this..
so was going to buy it - but i looks like i need to buy domains, and sort a link up!
its all new to me.. and i'd love a simple clean explanantion please.
If you can help, please post a reply asap...
Im using OSX leopard, iweb (old one)
    Thanks
    Andrew

You will need to buy a domain from someone like http://www.simply.com
They will allow you to forward from your domain so that andrewscakes.com will remain in the address bar while people navigate round your site (so individual pages won't be bookmarkable).
With the latest version of iWeb you can use 'Personal Domain' - forwarding with the pagenames: please see http://iwebfaq.org/site/iWeb_Domains.html

  • Please Help: website domain name question(s)

First let me get this out in the open: I'm not computer savvy and I'll probably end up using fancy technical computing terms inappropriately. For this, I apologize.
Okay, I have a relatively simple goal (at least I hope it's simple).
All I want is for the little website I created in iWeb and have hosted on .Mac (perhaps "hosted" is the wrong word?) to display the domain name I've given it.
    Some potentially helpful info:
    My website is called: thegirlandrhino.com
I purchase my domain name at Namecheap.com
At Namecheap.com I utilized the URL forwarding feature -- forwarding http://web.mac.com/thegirlandrhino to http://thegirlandrhino.com
Now then, all of this is works just fine.
However, when I type "www.thegirlandrhino.com" into my address bar, the name changes into: http://web.mac.com/thegirlandrhino/iWeb/TheGirlandRhino/181C45AC-5290-11DB-9315- 001124783C74.html
I find this obnoxious and unsightly.
Does anyone know I can get my site's URL to maintain its "form?"
    Thanks Much!

Hey, good job on getting your domain forwarding setup! The feature that you are now looking for is called "Masking". It will let your domain name stay in the address bar no matter what page on your site you surf to, so that all that gibberish URL stays hidden away.
I just took a look at namecheap.com and see that they are calling this feature "cloaking". Just enable this feature from your domain name account and hide away your long .Mac URL...

  • Web Domain Name Question??

So this is going to sound really noobie like...well because I'm not really a network admin by day.
I have my server set and functioning with DNS, Web, OD, and a mixture of file sharing services. So...when creating a new Site in Web service, I set a 'Domain Name' (like www.example.com) and 'Aliases' (like example.com). If I then go to a web browser and type "www.example.com" or "example.com" I get nothing...but, if I type in the FQDN of the server (like "http://ns1.mydomain.com"), it will go to my site.
Now, I know that the domain I'm setting isn't a registered domain, but with all of my client computers pointing to the DNS of the server, shouldn't it resolve to be like a 'local host' kinda thing?
I don't need this to be live to the internet...just a local site. Any help or suggestion is much appreciated!
    Thank you!!

    Hi Corey
To put it simply you really don't need any other IP address in the Server's DNS Server's field other than its own address. Of course this assumes the server is also the DNS Server. The Server in effect is using its own DNS to resolve itself locally and any client computers that are using it for their DNS as well as accessing the internet. Obviously clients using the Server for their DNS will also be accessing the internet using the Server.
If the Server is down then it won't matter whether if it can get on the internet - its down. For clients using the server it will matter. So for clients you could either not bother using the Server and use either the Router IP address (if the router is not your server) or any ISP supplied DNS Server addresses. Or place these addresses as secondary addresses.
A lot depends on how you want clients to access server hosted domains? If you want to use domain names then clients have to know which DNS Server resolves that name to an IP address. Of course you could just simply use the server's IP address locally - clients will still access the site.
This explanation is as simple as I can make it. There are others on these forums who could (or may if they post) explain things a lot better?
Glad I could help and thank you for the feedback.

  • New domain name question

i just registered this domain name on godaddy.com:
    www.briantylermusic.com
the website link before, was this:
    http://web.me.com/cbarrywdw03/TheBrianTylerProject/Main.html
when i go to the new domain name, it shows up as this:
    http://briantylermusic.com/TheBrianTylerProject/Main.html
how can i get rid of the site name in the address?

Actually there is a way to remove the site name when publishing to MobileMe. However, if you have more than one site it will not work. It's spelled out here: IWEB : PUBLISH TO MOBILEME WITHOUT THE SITENAME IN THE URL. Remember you can have only one site published to your MMe account if you use this method.
If you can live with just www.briantylermusic.com in the URL of every page and only be able to bookmark and enter your site via the fist page use URL forwarding (instead of CNAME) with masking enabled. But remember the two caveats I mentioned. That could be a deal breaker depending on your site and the importance of individual pages.
Just my opinion but the look and content of the site is what catches people's eye and brings them back. This leads me to the fact that users won't even notice what's up there even if they bookmark it. The simple domain name will get them to the site and the content will keep bringing them back, not what the URL looks like. +Much ado about nothing+ as someone famous once wrote.
