Domain name transfer to iweb

Have created an iweb site, and want to use my domain name currently held at 123-Reg on the site. Have followed instructions, but there appears to be 2 fields to input data one which is @ and the 'www' - I have the info to put in the 'www' field which is web.mac.com - what do I put in the @ field, both currently have 194.154.164.190 in. Hope someone can help.

Yes, he should double check that he is really working with CNAME. The presence of IP numbers may indicate that he is working with A records, which is not the right place to be.

  • The publishing settings page does not open when I click on the domain name and the iWeb application will not stay on the dock.

    Hello,
I have been trying to help a friend who is having problems publishing her website. (She has done so previously using Mobile me)
There seem to be a couple of things wrong with the application,
1     if I drag the application icon onto the dock, it won't stay there
2     I wanted to change where her site is published to (she has bought a domain name and has a hosting service now) but when I click on the domain name I do not get the "site publishing settings page" so we can't enter the new details.  All that comes up is the main page of her website.
I would suggest uninstalling and re-installing Iweb, to see if that clears the problem, but as Iweb came pre-installed with her Imac, I am not sure that we can do this.
    Any ideas please?
she's using and imac 24 in (approx 4 years old) and running osx 10.5.8

NO - not correct.  Even if you are still using iWeb 08, you can still publish to another host and not MobileMe.  You do this by selecting the option 'Publish to a local folder" and this will publish the site to your desktop and you can then use an ftp programme such as Cyberduck to upload your site to your host.
MobileMe will not be here after the end of June, so you will have to find alternative hosting.  They are not taking any new subscriptions.
On new Macs, iLife 11 is pre-installed, but only iPhoto, iMovie and GarageBand are included, not iWeb and iDVD. The Apple Online store is not selling the boxed version of iLife 11 any longer, so if you want to upgrade to iLife, then you'll have to look online at Amazon.com or Amazon.co.uk for a boxed set of either iLife 09 or iLife 11.  Both contains iWeb 09, which is what you would want.

  • Domain Name Transfer

    Hi,
I'am a premium user of BC and I have Web Commerce plan for a year.
My previous site plan was under web.com and the domain name was registered under them i.e. registrar is Register.com.
I re-port my domain to Business catalyst few months ago.
As I'am not satisfied with the service of web.com I would like to discontinue the subscription with web.com.
So please let me know if I cancel my account will I loose my domain name ? because it's going to be expire on 4th of October.
Or is there any option in business catalyst to renew my domain forever?
Expecting a quick help as early as possible
    Thanks
    Jarish

I fixed it. iWeb address changed from first site to second site, so copying address to forwarding URL was not enough. I had to make the necessary changes. Thank you for responding

  • Domain name transfer issues

I am having trouble with a domain name I purchased forward to my .mac. This is the second domain name I have purchased. The first one I had issues with too, but it works fine now when the name is typed in a browser window. I copied the exact info, but I am getting an error from .mac saying name doesn't exist. I published the site in iWeb just like I did my first site....every step was the same. I can not figure out why I am getting an error -- can anyone help?

  • Still having problems forwarding a domain name to my iWeb site

I'm still having some issues linking another domain name I own to my existing iWeb site. I forwarded the other domain through my GoDaddy account, but when I try it with www in front of the forwarding name, it directs me to my MobileMe home page. Without typing in the www, the forwarding works just fine.
I must be doing something wrong, but not sure where to adjust things.
    Thanks,
    Steve Pressman

    Steve,
It sounds like your CNAME may not be set up properly. You'll want to make sure your CNAME www is forwarding to @ which will be the host where the domain is forwarding currently without the www. Here is a link with some instructions (see the section on "Adding or Editing CNAME Records": http://x.co/RBCW

  • Instructing clients on domain name transfer

I was wondering what the easiest way is to instruct a client how to transfer their domain name from a previous host to a new one. Do you simply give them the information fom the "Whois" lookup? Do you contact the previous host yourself? What do you do?

So that would be asked with this question:
How do I get access to the domain registration account so that I can change the DNS pointers?
And the answer is either of the following -
    *  Get the domain registration account login information from the client (they were given this when they registered the domain name), log in to the account, and edit the DNS pointers.
    OR
    * Have the client contact the domain registrar and ask them for the domain registration login info.  They may have to do a song and dance to get this, but they will get it.  Have them give that info to you.  Then continue with the first item above.

  • A fix to personal web domain name problem between iWeb and GoDaddy

There are numerous posts about problems with iWeb understanding both your personal name domain with and without the www.prefix. After five days, 25 calls to both Apple and GoDaddy where I was getting much conflicting advice even within each organization, and I experienced many problems such as the site not being found and iWeb asking for password authorization whenever anyone visited the site. The good news is that I was finally able to resolve the problem with these simple steps:
First, check that your Web site actually exists by going to http://web.mac.com/yourusername
If that works then you need to set up a forward in GoDaddy.
In GoDaddy's account manager, make sure that the forwarding address is set to http://web.mac.com/yourusername. This must be the same address that you just checked through your browser. (I also advise you to NOT USE the .ME designation that Apple is moving to. It's not solid yet. .MAC will work for a long time. It's web.mac.com/ that will work).
Then click on the Total DNS Control and MX Records link.
This is where my instructions that work differ from many other instructions, but heed my advice and you'll save a lot of time.
Look in the CNAMES area and make sure that the www host alias points to "@" and not to anything else such as "web.me.com" or "www.mac.com". If you don't have such an entry, then create one by clicking on the "add a new CNAME Record"button. Caution - if you don't use the "@" (at sign) here you WILL run into trouble where your custom domain name will only work WITHOUT a "www." prefix. (While this may not be a problem for your mac friends, most everyone using a PC will think they need to type in a "WWW." and that will cause a problem).
Then if you wish, you can also go back into your domain forwarding area and click on the masking tab and click to enable masking. This will make your url only show the short personal domain name rather than the very long iWeb mobile me URL appended with your personal domain name.
Confirm your entry, and then wait anywhere from 20 minutes to four hours or more for the tens of thousands of servers around the world to repopulate those instructions. I was able to see a change take place in minutes where my associate in another state didn't see the change for two hours. Don't worry, just wait.
If you do this, you should be able to then go to your Web site through either www.YourPersonalDomainName.com or YourPersonalDomainName.com
    Good luck!

I was finally able to resolve the problem with these simple steps:
Many people would not be interested in using url forwarding/masking as you suggest to solve this issue, since that makes it impossible to bookmark individual pages of your site. For those who do wish to set the www CNAME to web.mac.com, I think the problem can normally be solved by also setting the @ A Record to 17.250.248.34.

  • Office Live Website Domain Name Transfer?

I currently have a Office Live website with a .co.uk domain name - is there a way to create and host the same domain name with Apple once my Office Live account expires?
    And yes I'm a technophobe!

To use your domainname with MobileMe you must [enable Personal Domain at MobileMe|http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=MobileMe/Account/en/acct1 7114.html] and set your CNAME to web.me.com where you have registered your domainname.
Pick your own subdomain (www is a subdomain).
It's not an iWeb issue, since iWeb is not involved. [Forum : MobileMe iWeb and Personal Domain|http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=1163]
Read my article how I manage my domainname : http://www.wyodor.net/Domain/
    I currently have these subdomains:
http://www.wyodor.net/ (at MobileMe using A Record)
    http://me.wyodor.net/ (at MobileMe using CNAME)
http://google.wyodor.net/ (at Google using A Record)
http://wyodor.net/ (at MS Office Live using A Record)
Other subdomains default to my Personal Webserver on my computer at home.
Note that you cannot use iWeb, or any custom webpage, at Google or MS Office Live. They're all webbased.

  • Using your personal domain name in .Mac/iWeb?

Hi people, just a question about using my personal domain name which I have from UKreg.
Anyone know how to use this in iWeb? I have looked at a few sites explaining it, but looks like a hard task!
    Thanks : )

It's very easy actually. Follow the directions and links here:

A couple clicks now that you already have your domain registered.

  • Pointing a Domain Name at my iWeb Pages

    Hi All
I am pretty sure I've got the Podcasting thing sussed, apart from the RSS thing which of course good old iweb does for you, my question is this: Can I purchase a domain name of my choosing and then point it at my iWeb pages thereby using the RSS feed that iWeb automatically produces, or is it frowned upon to do such things? My podcasts will be video but nothing dodgy, just car stuff
    Thanks
    A.L.I

yes, that will work perfectly. if you get a domain, here is how you could "forward" or "point it to" you .mac page:

  • Re Directing several domain names to one iweb site

Hello, what needs to happen on Apples' end so I may re direct several domain names that are parked at godaddy to the 1 web site I just set up with iweb? Thanks
    GMorton

Since there are three ways to use a personal domain, you should first decide what you want displayed in the browser address bar when your site is viewed. See THIS page under +"Chapter 1: What is a personal domain? What does it do?"+.
...When you've decided what you want to appear in the browser address bar, read the rest of that page and if you still have questions, post back here.

  • Domain name setup with iWeb 09, MobileMe & Google Apps.

I purchased a domain (http://tinyurl.com/5v3m3bs) via google, I am hosting the site on my MobileMe (http://tinyurl.com/5vt9qr8) space & am using iWeb09 to edit the website but for the life of me I cannot mask forward using Google Apps from my domain to my MobileMe site.  I have read several articles related to this and seems very confusing.
Can someone please guide me step-by-step to achieve this?
    Regards

To set up web forwarding with masking, all you need do is log into your account at your domain name registrar's and then go to the web forwarding section.  Once in web forwarding enable masking and then forward your domain name to web.me.com/username/sitename and that is all you need do.
Do remember though that if you have already entered your domain name into your MobileMe account under the personal domain name settings and have set up CNAME forwarding, then you cannot have masked web forwarding as well.
You need to do one or the other, but NOT both.  Decide what you want and what is more important to you and set this up - if you want masking then just follow the steps above and mask and forward your domain name to web.me.com/username/sitename - you need to be more specific with this.

  • Looking for the most econmical way of tying domain name to mobileme iweb

Hi all, I currently have a few sites that are hosted on mobileme, and I used the DynDNS services to 1) register a domain name (15$) and 2) create a webhop (CNAME) from the domain to the mobileme site (30$). So that's 45$ per year per site. Is there a more economical way of doing the same thing (without running my own server)? I have a handful of brochure sites to post, and I am looking to cut costs. Thx!!!
    coocoo

No. Look at GoDaddy and see and I think that you will find that what OT has said is correct.
If you purchase a domain name from them, depending on what ending it is - .com, .co.uk, .net etc, then you just pay for the cost of the registration for one year or two years, which does work out at $7.95 per YEAR depending on the domain name you get and this will be excluding any hosting or e-mail packages. E-mail does cost extra though.
If you just register your domain name, then you can use CNAME forwarding or web forwarding at no extra cost. So none of this adding $29 for the privilege of using CNAME forwarding - GoDaddy does not do this and you get it when you register your domain name.
Once you have the domain name registered, all you do is set up a new CNAME and point the 'www' part of your domain to web.me.com which is your MobileMe host and it will be forwarded to your site.
I use GoDaddy myself and have no problems whatsoever.
If you have one MobileMe account, then you have the option of entering a domain name into the Personal Domain Name settings - you can do this once for every MobileMe account and can then use CNAME forwarding at your domain registrar to forward your domain name to your MobileMe account.
However, you can still publish as many sites as you like to MobileMe, but your url will be http://web.me.com/username/sitename, unless you then use masked or unmasked web forwarding to link your domain name to it if you wish.

  • Domain Name Registry in iWeb and MobileMe

I want to publish a website using MobileMe, and want to use a domain that I have determined is unused. Will MobileMe automatically register that domain when I initially publish it, or do I need to register it first with a third-party domain registry?
