Domain splitting

I have split my domains and decided to publish one. Well everytime I publish one.....the rest go away. I get 404 error on the web.
The files are also gone from iDisk.
Yesterday someone posted about this:
http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=2541090#2541090
But....ugh.....I don't know what they are talking about. What I really mean is it is above my head. Can anyone condense this and tell me what I am supposed to do to correct this.
Sorry that I have to be spoon fed here, but I want to learn to fix this.
iBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   http://www.the-camera-obscura.com

Okay......I tried this.....here is what happened:
I have two domain files.
When I renamed the sites within both domain files that I have, and then I published all to .mac, everything came back w/ new names. I could see all online.
Then I went back and changed the sites to their original names and I published one site in a domain and it didn't come back......
Then I did the same w/ the other, and the sites within that domain DID come back.
But the first one I published never did.....it is a single site in that I splitted from the original domain.
Any suggestions? My other question is......does this workaround need to be done each time I update? Or is it some kinda glitch that will occur sometimes?

  • Domain Splitting and iDisk issues

First, my apologies if my question has been answered previously. I did search the forums, but didn't find anything promising.
I have split my large domain.sites file into four separate domain.sites file, following the guidance of folks on this forum. Each domain.sites file contains two sites; a one-page "index" site with links to all my sites and one of my "real" sites. (the index site has a slightly different name in each domain.sites file so I don't ovewrite).
But now I'm having a dickens of a time keeping all the sites online at the same time. I did some searching in these forums and discovered that I have to do two rounds of "publish all." Since these were existing files, the first time I told one domain file to "publish all," it erased the sites I had deleted from that file. After the second round of publishing, the sites have all come back (except for my biggest one, which I haven't published a second time; I'll do that overnight).
It looked like I have everything working...until I synced my iDisk. Then one of my sites disappeared again! Plus, some of my sites that I can access on-line don't show up on my iDisk.
I typically leave my iDisk mounted on my desktop. Do I need to change this if I'm working with multiple domain.sites files?
Thanks for any help you can provide!

Thanks to both of you for your help. I after one last publish last night, I got all my sites on line.
Syncing my iDisk didn't work as well, though. Somehow I ended up with two copies of my iDisk on my desktop: one with the typical globe icon and another with a generic "drive" icon. The globe one was supposedly the current one, saying it had sinced this morning, but it only had some of my sites on it. (Oddly enough, it had each of the index sites, from all four domain.sites files, but not all the "real" sites from those files) The plain "drive" icon idisk had all the files on it. I couldn't get rid of either of them without restarting. But restarting seemed to set things to rights.
I've taken Varkgirl's advice and don't have my iDisk on my desktop. I didn't really access it much anyway.
Would it be of benefit to others for me to spell out the steps I took to split my domains and have a site index always show up as the site for the short url? I'd adjust it with some of the things I've learned in the process. I know there are good instructions for domain splitting in this forum already, but I don't know that my approach to a sites index with multiple domains has appeared on the forums before.

  • Domain on on-premise Exchange and subdomain on Office 365 coexistance

We have a client with, what seems to me, an odd request regarding their exchange topology. They are a small college and have their mail split between on-premise and O365. Their on-premise Exchange 2013 has email setup for domain.com, used by the
faculty.  Their O365 is setup for students.domain.com and is sync'd with AD using MSO Dirsync.  Currently, the two do not interact at all and is causing issues with staff emailing students.  Since they are educational, we have advised them
to move the faculty over to O365, however they throw that option out every time we bring it up.  They want to keep their faculty email on premise and leave the students in the cloud.  They want these separate, but still want the features
of a single exchange forest.  They want the students to be in the address-book, and be able to use distribution lists between the two.
What I'm wondering is if hybrid deployment will allow this to happen.  Based off my limited exchange experience, hybrid is used for the same domain across on-premise and O365, not for 2 separate domains.  I feel like two separate domains doesn't
really matter, since they are all AD mailboxes anyway.
What I'm asking is if hybrid deployment would be the way to go for this, and if there would be any documentation as the how to this exactly.  What I'm finding is documentation on the same domain split between the two, not 1 domain on exchange and 1
    domain on O365.
Any help is appreciated, thank you!

Thanks for the reply! Fortunately for our situation, all the accounts in O365 are deleted at the end of the semester, so to completely rebuild the O365 setup is not out of the question at all.
I guess I'm curious about the specifics for this. I've setup hybrid deployment before for a single domain, so I take it this will be similar. I suppose the DNS wouldn't need to change, right? O365 would receive mail for students.domain.com and the exchange
would receive mail for domain.com.  Then they'd each rely on the connectors to send mail back and forth.  What about DirSync, would I then need to sync the staff as well as students to O365?
And how about OWA, would the students then access webmail through OWA, or still use O365?
Sorry if any of this is basic, exchange is my weakest skillset.
    Thank you!

  • How can I split an oversize site?

Like many novice uses, my first attempt at a website turned out far too large -- too many large photo files that I later resized, but stil have the original 25MB files in the site folder -- judging from comments on this forum.
I'd like to split my site into several smaller sites, which can later be linked together. But I find no way to save more than one version at a time on my computer. That is, there is no "Save As" option that would allow me to copy each webpage or group of pages into a separate file. (Ideally, my home page would be a separate file on the web that would then link to each of the other pages. The only way to reduce size of the website file seems to be throwing away weeks of work, then rebuilding all the separate pages almost from scratch.
Yes, I have published to a folder. But I don't think the published files can be edited again.
    Any suggestions?
    G6 866   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

    Dear VarkGirl,
Thanks. I've done that. When I publish to a folder,
each site (website1 and website2) comes out as a
separate sub-folder. Website1 has the name
"website1" whereas website2 has a long number code
    for a name.
If you are still getting long code numbers for names, it sounds like you have not updated to 1.1.1.
I can drag and drop easily between the websites when
I'm in iWeb, and I can of course edit each page in
    that context.
But when I publish to a folder, it publishes both
sites together, covered by a single index. If I
remove some files from either subfolder, won't that
throw off the index and make the system go haywire?
You can upload just one site to your ftp server. Instead of uploading index.html and all the many folders, just upload the CONTENTS of the ONE folder for the site you want to upload. It has its own index.html so it will still work. In other words, visiting www.yourdomain.com/index.html will forward you to the main page of the SITE you uploaded. Whereas before, www.yourdomain.com/index.html would forward you to www.yourdomain.com/SITEONENAME/index.html which would then forward you to www.yourdomain.com/SITEONENAME/toppagename.html
    Does this make sense?
More basically, how can I take the files in my folder
and open them up so I can edit them? Put
differently, if I erase a file F from either website,
where can i store F until it is needed again?
Don't erase them from iWeb!!! You will never be able to edit them again!
If you use the upload method I have outlined above, you could upload only the site with the pages you want online, and discard the other site's pages, which would be all the pages you moved to a separate site.
OR you could split your domain file. Search on here for "domain splitting" for more info.
Put differently, how can I select X files from iweb
and select those to be published to a folder or to
    the web?
    See above
My modem is super slow dialup (24 baud, max) that I
could never upload my site from here. I'll have to
find a neighbor with a DSL modem and ask him to
upload it for me. The only aternative would be to
    upload it from here 1 Page at a time -- a 30+hr
    process.
    Any suggestions?
I recommend Transmit for FTP uploading www.panic.com
Can't help with your speed problem though, sorry.

  • Can I have some iWeb sites on one computer & some on another?

I've been using iWeb to creat both personal and business sites for myself. I've got about six sites and I'd like to control the business ones from my work computer and my personal ones from my home computer. Can I do this? I had copied the files over so that both machines had the same data and I just deleted the personal pages from my work machine. When I went to quit out of iWeb it asked me if I wanted to publish my site which set off a light in my head. Only then did it occur to me that it was going to attempt to republish everyting, this time deleting my personal sites from my .Mac account because this (my work) computer no longer has my personal sites on it. Can someone help? Is there a way to do what I want to do?
    Thanks,
    Ben

    Benjamin,
Yes, you can do what you are looking to do, but it will take a little time and effort to get it set up correctly. You are right that publishing from your work machine will delete your personal sites right now, but that can be fixed fairly easily. I'll walk you through the steps here, but I'd also encourage you to read through ApNewbie's domain splitting guide, too. (and be sure to read my notes at the end before starting this process!)
1.) Copy your domain sites file both of your computers and put them in a safe place.
    2) If your iDisk is the desktop of either computer, unmount it.
    3) "Publish All" from your work computer. This will delete your home site, but we'll fix that before we are done.
    4) On your home computer, delete the work sites from iWeb, then "Publish All" from your home computer. This will delete your work site, but we'll fix that, too.
    5) From your work computer, "Publish All" again.
    6) From your home computer, "Publish All" again.
    7) Check your sites from your browser (don't forget to clear the cache before doing so!)
    8) If all is well, you are done; if they still don't all show up, do one more round of "Publish All," and you should be set to go.
    9) From here on out, you should be able to use the regular "Publish to .mac" process
Note that the site that shows up at your "short" url (web.mac.com/username) will be the most recently updated site. If this is an issue for you, there are at least two options:
1)create a one-page site in each domain.sites file (home and work) with links to all your sites. Make sure to give this site a different name in each file. (e.g. "siteindexwork" and "siteindexhome." For an example of a site index, look here.
    2) follow ApNewbie's directions for domain splitting and on each machine create a separate domain.sites file with just a site index and publish anytime you publish one of the other websites. (Note that if you create this index by copying your other file and deleting existing websites in it you need to do another double round of "Publish All" to get everything up and running.)

  • Latest revision of the FAQ in progress - help needed!

Thought I would start a new thread...
I need some help, guys I am looking for some helpers on the following topics, so feel free to chime in:
    -Text/PNG issues
-Viewing iWeb sites on a PC
-A generic list of "fixes" when iWeb is acting buggy - i.e. deleting plists, reinstalling the direct download etc
    I am working on adding:
    -.Mac vs Publish to folder
-Whatever else comes to my mind...
Here's the latest revision, let me know your thoughts. My hope is to slim it down to 10 questions/categories. I don't know if the Hosts will keep it as one post or possible separate, but I figure it is best to be broad rather than narrow...

Still no luck? Post your question in the forum! We are all happy to help!
Here are (or will be eventually) our Top 10 FAQs:
    1. My hard drive crashed, how do I restore a site from my iDisk/published folder? How do I backup my iWeb site(s)? How do I transfer my iWeb work to another computer? How do I transfer my old website made in Homepage/another html editor to iWeb?
Your iWeb data is stored, not in your actual html files, but in a file called Domain.sites, which is stored in your Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder. You should backup this file whenever you make big changes to your site, because if it gets lost or damaged, you will have to start all over. For more info, try these links:
    http://homepage.mac.com/thgewecke/iwebdata.html
    http://web.mac.com/will.englefield/iWeb/WillG4PB/Where.html
    http://web.mac.com/will.englefield/iWeb/WillG4PB/Backup.html
Important: You CANNOT restore an iWeb site from the published html pages in your iDisk or a published folder. Publishing to a folder is NOT a backup. You CANNOT use iWeb to edit existing web sites/pages created in other applications.
If you want to move your Domain.sites file to another computer, try putting it on a flash drive. Be sure to keep a current copy on the flash drive if you plan to move it back and forth between two or more computers. For more info, try these links:

    2. I am having trouble publishing to .Mac. What’s wrong?
Keep trying! Publishing errors come and go over time. Don’t give up, and don’t do anything drastic! For more info, look here:

    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303927
    3. How do I find my iWeb site on .Mac?
Your site is published to the “Web” folder on your iDisk. The address for this site is
    http://web.mac.com/yourusername
If you have more than one site, they will be located at
    http://web.mac.com/yourusername/iWeb/nameofsite1
    http://web.mac.com/yourusername/iWeb/nameofsite2
    etc etc etc…
The index.html file for your “short URL” (http://web.mac.com/yourusername) will always forward to site1, which will be the top site in your site organizer (column on the left hand side in iWeb).

    4. How can I keep more than one site but only work on/publish one at a time?
Yes, but this requires some “domain splitting” – duplicating the Domain.sites file and slimming down each copy to contain only one site. More info and some instructions are available here:
    http://web.mac.com/mark8heaton/iWeb/DomainSeparation

    5. How do I add _ to my iWeb page? Where can I find additional help?
You can add just about anything you could add to a regular website to an iWeb site, if you don’t mind doing some post-publish editing of your html files.
You can open the html files generated by iWeb in any text or html editor. In TextEdit, to view the code in an HTML file, choose File > Open and select "Ignore rich text commands." Then locate the .html file and click Open.
Here’s how to find your html files:
If you publish to dot mac, mount your idisk using the "go" menu in Finder. This will place your idisk on the desktop.
    Then go to iDisk/Web/Sites/iWeb/Sitename/Pagename.html
If you publish to a folder, try looking in your Sites folder of your home folder.
If you don’t want to look at the html code yourself, try MassReplaceIt (http://www.hexmonkeysoftware.com), a free find/replace utility.

When you publish to a folder, you select a folder on your hard drive to publish your site(s) to and then upload to your own webspace via FTP. When you publish to a folder, you lose some of the features of iWeb .Mac sites. Here is a list of the features that differ between the two:

  • Publising only 1 of many sites

    Hello All!
I have created multiple sites using iWeb - as I can easily publish material that I don't want to go to .Mac to its own folder and upload it through a separate ftp server.
Even though I created multiple sites, I want 1 of my 3 iWeb sites to publish to .Mac - but I can't figure out how to do it without publishing all 3 to .Mac.
How can I publish only 1 of my multiple sites on iWeb to .Mac???
    Thanks!

domain splitting does not seem to be what I'm looking
    for.
Are you sure about that? Did you search for 'split domain'?
I have 3 "sites" on iWeb - you can create "new site"
under file, and re name them separately.
ALL of them are in ONE Domain.sites package.
1 of the 3 I want to publish to .Mac, the other 2 I
already publish to a folder on my computer and upload
    to their own FTP sites.
How do I get that 1 last site to publish to .Mac,
without publishing the last 2 to .Mac?
    Splitting up you Domain.sites package.

  • Win 7 Home Premium 64 bit error 433

Our ASA5505 works fine for a handful of VPN users, but ONE client won't work, which happens to be the only Home Premium unit.
I'm sitting at my desk, and I have a W7 Pro x64 machine working right next to a W7 Home Premium x64 machine not working.  Both were installed from the same media, which includes the same pre-configured profile.  They are both running 5.0.07.0440.  I use the same username/password.  I tried another Home Premium x64 machine and it doesn't work either.  I've tried them wired and wireless.
The logs (at level=2) are similar except the failing machines record some "retransmissions".  Ignoring that, they are in lock step until they diverge as shown below.  Maybe the "retransmission" is the actual problem, but that doesn't tell me how to fix it.  We contracted to have our ASA5505 setup, and the vendor is no longer available, so there isn't a lot of expertise around (e.g. just me, an old hardware guy).  Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Please start by deleting the .pcf file on this system or trying to configure the connection-profile again on the client.
If this does not help, try to test with local authentication for testing if possible.
Run "debug crypto condition peer <public_ip_of_VPN_client>"  and then "debug crypto isakmp 200" and "debug crypto ips 200" for working and non working device and post the results.
For your further knowledge , the error that you are getting , it has been discussed here as follows:-
    Verify Idle/Session Timeout
If the idle timeout is set to 30 minutes (default), it means that it drops the tunnel after 30 minutes of no traffic passes through it. The VPN client gets disconnected after 30 minutes regardless of the setting of idle timeout and encounters the PEER_DELETE-IKE_DELETE_UNSPECIFIED error.
Configure idle timeout and session timeout as none in order to make the tunnel always up, and so that the tunnel is never dropped even when using third party devices.

  • Java Regex Question

I wanted to do some regex to see if a string has a subdomain.
I want to pass string then check if there is a xxx.example.com or if it's just example.com. Anyone have a clue?
    Thanks,
    Brian

I just went around and used the split method to check, I'm posting my code in case someone else has this problem and limited to the 1.4 jdk.
    String split = domain.split("[.]") ;
    if(split.length > 2)
domain = split[split.length - 2] + "." + split[split.lengh -1] ;basically what I wanted to do was see if it was a subdomain and then strip the preceding and just get to the actual domain.
    Thanks for the replys

  • Exchange 2007 Certificate Expired Error when using VPN

We recently did a server migration to a new domain (split away from part of the company - sept 2013).  I set up the exchange certs and everything worked fine, even when people used the vpn.  Recently (it probably started a few months ago) it has
started giving cert errors again, but just for VPN users.
This happens when someone takes their computer or has Outlook 2010 set up on their home computer.  They VPN in and when the program starts, it gives the certificate errors for exchange and for autodiscover saying "The security certificate has expired
or is not yet valid".  I have checked to make sure that the certs are in fact up to date and are pointing to the correct certificates in IIS.  They haven't changed since I originally set them up.
One of the users sent me a picture of the certificate and it is the old cert (that is expired) that used to belong to the previous address when we used the other (completely different) exchange server.  The other users haven't sent me the errors they
see, but I assume they are similar.  They are able to use exchange if they hit ok on the error box.  I couldn't find anywhere online saying that there was any kind of local caching for certs - it should always call home when connecting.  So
why are their systems pulling up the old cert when they VPN in, but not when they are hardwired to the internal network on the same computer?
When using the internal network without the vpn, there aren't any error messages.
Any ideas?  I've looked around the forums, but I didn't see anything that has helped.  I'm using godaddy for my certs currently.

    Hi,
Since the Outlook clients work well without VPN, I suggest re-build the VPN (if you don't mind) to verify whether it is a caches issue.
    Thanks

    Regards,
    Hugh

Hugh, sure you can rate based on the overall of the conversation but you are not obligated to do so but certainly would be nice to provide ratings.
To summarized the overall narrowing down possible issues, the main goal was to ensure RA VPN configuration on the PIX501 was corrected.
1- We enabled NAT-T on the firewall - even though this was not the issue but it is required to have it there should you RA VPN from other locations - NAT travseral makes the firewall aware of NAT devices from other ends - here is some good information on NAT-T for reference in future
    http://www.microsoft.com/technet/community/columns/cableguy/cg0802.mspx
2-We corrected the VPN POOL network /28 as well as the nonat access list and crypto acl to be consistant.
Here is a link for future reference with numerous PIX configuration scenarios
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/vpndevc/ps2030/prod_configuration_examples_list.html
lastly - your only remaining issue we can say is purely isolated with MAC machine and vpn client software.
You could perhaps try different version of the client in the MAC, or also look into release notes open caveats to rule out cisco cleint versioning and MAC versioning if there is any issues.

  • Iweb folder

    Hi there
Last night I set up two separate site folders in iweb, one for me and one for my boyfriend. I saved his site to a folder on my computer for an external site & domain but want to adjust his pages on my computer for him. The problem came when I published-I thought I could publish only one of the sites and it did both! So in my haste I deleted it from iweb and republished as instructed on the help pages, so that his website was not on two different sites. I then thought I could open the folder that I had saved with his site in it, back into iweb so I could do some more work on his site. Problem is, I can't seem to do that, even though the pages were created with iweb software. Any ideas on how I can do it without having to start again? I now know that I should have published the files and locked his with a password! Gah, why is it you know these things when it goes wrong?

Your iWeb data is stored, not in your actual html files, but in a file called Domain.sites which is stored in your Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder. You should backup this file whenever you make big changes to your site, because if it gets lost or damaged, you will have to start all over. If you want to work on your site on another computer, copy this file to a thumb drive to move it around.
I have an Automator app on my site that will help you backup your Domain file(s). http://iweb.aardvarkland.com
If you are wanting to have separate sites - try domain splitting:

  • Cross-tenant email and split domains - how to set up?

I've successfully deployed exchange 2010 sp1 in /hosted mode with multi-tenancy and the install is working great. We are running into a problem configuring the send connectors
for inter domain email and split domains. We have several customers wanting to only put a couple of email accounts on the exchange server and have the rest of their email accounts resolve to a pop server at an external location. Currently I have a internal
send connector set to relay email between the domains on the server so they can send emails to one another. Directions for this were found at: http://www.zerohoursleep.com/2010/10/step-by-step-starting-with-exchange-2010-sp1-multi-tenant-sending-and-receiving-emails/
I created the connector: new-SendConnector -Name 'TestOrg' -Usage 'Internal' -AddressSpaces 'SMTP:domain1.com;1','SMTP:domain2.com;1' -IsScopedConnector $false -DNSRoutingEnabled $false -SmartHosts '[127.0.0.1]' -SmartHostAuthMechanism 'None' -UseExternalDNSServersEnabled
    $false -SourceTransportServers 'Exchange'
I added all my internal domains to the connector listed above and email is able to flow from one domain to another.
My problem is we have a number of customers who need split-domains set up where users who arent on the exchange server are relayed to an external server. Example to route unknown users on a domain to google my send connector looks as is:
New-SendConnector -Name "Internal Relay - domain1.com" -Custom -AddressSpaces "SMTP:domain1.com;5" -SmartHosts aspmx.l.google.com -SourceTransportServers "server"
This results in an internal loop error when sending from one internal domain to another. Sending from an external domain everything is fine. If I remove the "internal" connector listed above the split-domain send connector works perfectly fine delivering locally
    and to the external server.
How can I make it so both send connectors work?

    Hello,
did you solve the problem and how?

  • "Splitting A Domain"

I have a question about e-mail that I am hoping someone might be able to help with or point me in the right direction.
I have a client with a domain name of example.com. The ISP concerned currently provides an SMTP feed for all the mail addressed to this domain on an SDSL line to an Xserve running Mac OS X Server with a public IP address of xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx which is the head office - lets call this location A. This office has a total of 120 employees; they also have two other satellite offices (lets call them locations B & C) with their own Xserves each with external IP addresses of yyy.yyy.yyy.yyy and zzz.zzz.zzz.zzz respectively and each office has between 30 and 40 staff and an ADSL internet connection. The mail server at location A currently handles mail for all 3 locations and staff at location B connect via a VPN to pick up and send their mail whilst staff at location C are connected via a 2mb lease line.
All users send and receive quite a lot of mail and send a large number of pretty big attatchments, which at times causes the existing mail server at location A, at best to slow down and sometimes even appear to stall.
What I would like to do to overcome this is rather than have 1 mail server handling all mail, would be for location B and C to have there own server but using the same domain. So, if mail is delivered by the ISP, if the user works at location A, ([email protected]) the server at A will handle the mail for that user, but if mail comes in for [email protected], the server at location B will handle the mail. Obviously the same would apply for location C. Users at each location would use their own smtp server for mail.
I think what I'm asking about is 'splitting a domain', but I'm wondering whether anybody has any experience of doing this with Mac OS X Server and if so, how this could be achieved.
    Thanks
    Paul

This approach adds complexity, when it may be better to streamline.
You should determine why your server is slowing to a crawl..
Most likely, it's your content filter.
There are many ways to streamline a config. If, as an example, you see that amavis/clamav is the largest cpu hog, and 50% of your email is internal- you could disable the content filter for internal mail.
Another example, if you don't have proper restrictions in place for incoming mail, you are forcing your mail server to do (potentially) double the load vs using postfix to block unwanted mail before amavis/clamav.
My opinion.. you need to analyze and understand where your bottlenecks are. A few config changes should be all you need.
