Domain user network share browsing slow, but domain admin is fast

I've seen quite a few threads about slow network share browsing in Windows 7, and I've tried every fix to no avail.  I did notice something that has not been mentioned in any threads that I've seen though, and that's the behavior is different when using
a user account with administrative privileges.
Environment: SBS2011, domain, 14 Windows 7 PC's that all exhibit the same behavior
As an account in the domain users group, browse to a network share with approx. 400 items to display, and it takes 4-5 seconds for explorer to show them.  Same delay exists when creating new folders in this folder.  Displaying this folder in any
way reproduces this delay, whether navigating up or down the file system, or by going straight to the share's UNC path.
Folders with fewer items have less of a delay, the effect seems proportional.
As an account in the domain admins group, navigation is lickety split.  Tested with two different administrative accounts.  Tested on multiple PC's.  Also took a user account that exhibited the issue, added them as a member of domain admins,
and this resolved the issue for that user account.
Any ideas?

Did you ever find a solution to this issue?
We are running into a similar issue.  We have a few specific Domain Users who are reporting difficulty navigating or searching network shares.  Searching a small folder of files is taking 30+ seconds.  All of our domain admins can search the
same folder instantly.  If we add this Domain User into Domain Admins his searching is instant, when we demote him back down to Domain user its slow again.  The Domain User is having the same issue no matter what computer he uses.  Us Domain
Admins can log into the same computer and it comes up with search results instantly, log out and log back in as the Domain User and suddenly its slow again.
Any help would be appreciated.

  • SMB Network Share Access slow (MAC OS X SL and Windows 2008 Server)

    Hi,
I've added some iMacs with 10.6 to the Active Directory. This works totally fine. Anyways, I have some trouble, when accessing shares on my network. I found out, that some problems came up, because my network name was XXX.XXX.local I changed the Domain name of the Active Directory, but still the problems exist:
When opening the finder, Open Office or Microsoft Word on the Mac and browsing through files and folders, it sometimes takes up to 30 seconds and more, until the content of a folder appears... I already tried ADmitMac from Thursby, but it didn't seem to fix this problem. When accessing the shares from a Windows machine, they run pretty fast. Any idea?

I too have the exact same problem and need to figure it out soon. Very slow response times. It seems the server is getting over utilized (look at your resource monitor).
    Current configuration are:
MAC OS 10.6.4 using a Windows 2008x64 as a file server. Clients are connecting via SMB.
    Whats the common denominator here?
Our users are using Adobe InDesign 3. When users open the file located on the server and submits a print job directly to the printer, the InDesign links ( some files contain around 100 ) reach back to the server to reference the file before it prints. This may be why the server's resources are heavily affected and may be the reason why it may cause slow response times for other MAC users who try and save, open or copy files from / to the server. We have not found a soultion and all things mentioned here including the internet links did not work. We are still testing other variables (copy the Indesign files locally to detemine if print times decrease, etc. Any comments appreciated.

  • SID only shows up when adding a domain user account from an external trusted domain

This is sort of an interesting situation which may wind up being more of a network port not being open.
There are two Windows 2008 R2 domains, AlphaCo and BravoCo, that have an external one-way trust setup between them where AlphaCo trusts BravoCo. The member servers on the AlphaCo domain have BravoCo users added to it's local groups. The problem is on one
of the member servers (SRV-05) on the AlphaCo domain. When any user from the BravoCo domain is added to the local Administrators group it will show up when doing a search with the "friendly name" but when you click on "Apply" and/or "OK"
it changes to the SID. This only happens on the SRV-05 server. The other member servers on the AlphaCo domain (SRV-01, 02, 03, 04, 06) are not having this issue.
Any idea what may be causing this user identity crisis and what could be done to resolve it?

There are no other differences between SRV-05 and the other members servers on the AlphaCo
domain (SRV-01, 02, 03, 04, 06). I did download and run the PortQryUI tool to check the status of port 135 on SRV-05
and the other servers which came back with the same results. I also checked the
    AlphaCo domain
security settings (Computer Configuration->Windows Settings->Security Settings->Local Policies->Security Options) Network access: Allow anonymous SID/Name translation which was disabled. But I do not believe this is the cause since
it would impact the other servers (SRV-01, 02, 03, 04, 06) in the domain.

  • Network shares browsing in XFCE

Is there any way in doing this in arch?
I was able to (of sorts) in Xubuntu with fusesmb and also found a little tool called pyneighborhood. I'd really like to stay in XFCE but this missing tool is rather annoying. It seems the thunar dev's don't care from what it says in their FAQ.

What I use mostly is the good old Midnight Commander - although I don't use samba shares much, mostly to move particular files between my desktop and my laptop.  You could also install Nautilus and use it in XFCE - Nautilus supports browsing samba shares unlike Thunar.

  • Quit crippling this wonderful app.....thought it was slower, but it is actually faster.

Each CS release has continously decreased the speed and perfomance of Photoshop.
    I've got 16 Cores and 32GB RAM and a scratch disk with R/W of 500+ MB/s
CS6 is the slowest and most un-responsive version of PS I have ever used. And I believe I have been using Photoshop since 1996.
I had my hopes up really high reading about CS6 is major release to PS. But this version, unless one is working with ONE layer, is sooooo un-responsive and slow
that it makes it impossible to work with... I am in a document with about 12 adjustment layers onto of a portrait photograph.... turning off ONE adjustment layers,
takes about 5 seconds for the results to show.... Instantenous (almost) in CS 5.5...
Clicking any adjustment layer automatically enables the alpha numerical input in the first "tab" assigned field. This makes it impossible to click the layer and hit delete,
PS will promp with a dialog that a value between 0 and 255 has to be entered.
The new interface is well not so new just different colors. Still the same horrible panel stuff. Look to Final Cut X and Motion to how it is done. This is unacceptabl for a 2012 app.
You mean to set standards with the number one design software (photoshop) at least you could have given us a nice interface. In case you did not now, folks recognize COLOR icons
better than black and white icons... Dont cop the BAD sides of Lion... Apple is going to give back Color Icons to the Finder...
What concerns me the most is the performance of PS CS6. TO put it gently... It is suub standard, at least on a Mac running OS X Lion 7.3
You are quite lucky that you dont really have any competition in regards to photoshop. If you had, I would NOT be continuing down this road you're going.
With best regards and HIGH hopes of improvemente prior to release !

OK... Thanks for pointing me to this...

  • SSRS report running very slow but query is very fast in SSMS

I am running a very basic report. I am just retrieving some data from a table and I am using a parameter in the Where clause of the query. The query runs fast (in less than 5 secs) if I hardcode the parameter in the SSRS query but if it's left as a dynamically
chosen parameter the query takes over 5 minutes to render. I have read a little about "Parameter Sniffing" but I am not sure if that applies to my case since I am only using a TSQL query and not a SP.
    Any feedback would be appreciated.
PS: My query looks like below:
    Select Col1, Count(*)
    From Tbl1
    Where Col2 = @Para1
    Group By Col1
    KK

    Hi Kk,
Is your data retrieval takes time or report rendering takes time? Run this query in your report server database to get the above two. Select * From Executionlog2
Check the timings data retrieval time, processing time, and report rendering time.
    If data retrieval takes time,
Give some default values to filters (parameters).
    If parameter rendering takes time
Choose different options for parameter selection. Instead of multiselction of parameter, use like etc.
Let me know which causing this problem after running the SQL profiler or executionlog query so that I can help you more. Or you can use SQL profiler to check what query takes more time.
    Hope this helps.

Firstly make sure that you have configured sites and subnets correctly. According to your information which you have two locations, you should have at least 2 sites and 2 subnets associated to them. If you have forgotten to configure subnets of India in your
site and services and assigned them to the India site you are experiencing this issue. Also make sure if clients in India has appropriate network connectivity to the domain controllers in India.

How to query members of 'Local Administrators' group in all computers?

  • Domain Users are not able to log in to Domain Computers - Administrators are able to do so

I have Primary Domain Controller and Secondary one, The users can log in to both as I have changed the locally Policy to allow Domain users to log in.
But I am having problem with users who can not log in to computers joined the domain. I noticed that ONLY Administrators allowed to log in locally in the Policy and if want to add users, i will not be able to do so as Adding Users or Group is Disabled.
    Advise is appreciated.

    Hi,
Please follow the below steps for checking whether either "Allow Logon Locally" or "Deny Logon Locally" is enabled in the default policy,
    1. Go to start -> run -> tupe GPMC.MSC, to open Group Policy Management Console.
    2. In the  Group Policy Management Console, right click and edit the default policy and navigate to the node "Computer Configuration\Windows Settings\Security Settings\Local Policies\User Rights Assignment".
    3. In the "User Rights Assignment" node, check whether the options "Deny log on locally" or "Allow Logon Locally" are
defined and groups added to those options to confirm the logon problem of domain users.
NOTE: Also check the local policy, as you have mentioned "I have Primary Domain
Controller and Secondary one, The users can log in to both as I have changed the locally Policy to allow Domain users to log in."

  • Invoke-sqlcmd with domain user name and password

I am trying to execute below small SQL script from powershell by passing my domain user name and password..but it is throwing an error login failed for the user.
Howerver I am able to execute the same query by passing normal user 'non domain' and password. The issue is only when i am trying to connect with domain username.
Can you please suggest if there is any way to execute below query with domain user..
    Invoke-Sqlcmd
    -query "select name from master.sys.databases"
-ServerInstance "CM-NCKM-DBTST04\SQL2012" -username "sos\9venk" -password "xxxx"

    Hi Venkat,
Agree with Mike, to connect sql via powershell, you can refer to this article about authentications:
Connecting to SQL Server through Powershell
Please try to gather credentials using Get-Credential, and then use New-PSSession -Authentication CredSSP to open the pssession.
A similar discussion about this issue is for your reference:
    Invoke-SQLCmd with Different Credential
If there is anything else regarding this issue, please feel free to post back.

  • Domain user or local administrator permission

We have a windows 2008 R2 domain environment with windows 7 clients. Users have domain user permission.
Security wise domain user rights is the way to go. But we have a lot of users with notebooks, with multifunctional printers at home. We configured a GPO to install printers, but they can't run setup to install the printer/scan software.
Also some notebook user need to install/upgrade work related software.
I thought of making the users power user.
Or local amdin user, with UAC turned on. But we had issues with UAC turned on a year ago(can't remember what it was). I could also work with GPO's, Software Restriction Policies, Applocker. But that's to much Admin overhead. I,m looking for a solution that
I and the users would benefit from.I like to know how other Admins deal with his
    Thanx

Let me try to be more clearly.
At the office we don't have any issues with installing printers drivers. We have about 100 users with laptops that need to install the multifunctional printers software(not drivers) at home. For most of them, installing the printer driver is
no problem, because of a printer GPO's we configured.
"Allow non-administrators to install drivers for these device setup classes" and "Point and Print Restrictions" GPO's.
So we don't have issues with domain users
installing printer drivers, but most of them have multifunctional devices at home. All different brands(canon, hp, Epson etc). As a domain user they don't have the permission to run the setup to install the scanner and printer software. They
only can install the printer drivers, because of the GPO.
This is one of the issues we have with domain users permissions. From security perspective, domain users permission is the way to go, but if does have its challenges. I don't want to install all the different software for those users, and on the other hand
they don't want to rely on IT department for things they can do them self.
For installing printerscanner software(not only drivers), the printer need to connected to the laptop. Users are not going to bring there multifunctional device to the office for me to install the software.
So it's more the experience of other administrators I'm looking for, how to deal with giving users more permission to install or upgrade some software, but still have the feeling that IT department is in control of those laptops.
    Thanx

you can set the User Attribute "userWorkstations"
    Source of Picture: http://www.selfadsi.de/user-attributes-w2k8.htm
So yo can restrict where the users can logon.
Is this what you searched for?

  • Could not start the listener with a domain user

    Hi all,
I am working on Windows 2003 with Oracle 10.2.0.2 !
With user "local system account", I can start the listener and I have no problems!
after chaning the user that runs the listener from local system account to a domain user, I cannot start the listener again!
(for the oracle service itself for the database, is it possible to change the user from local system to that domain user without problems)
attached the error message when starting the listener with cmd.
by starting the listener with the restart of the windows service, the listener crashed down after a few minutes
do I have to set additional permissions for that domain user?
    thanks in advance
    Stefan

    tnslsnr wird gestartet: Bitte warten...
    TNS-12537: TNS: Verbindung beendet
    TNS-12560: TNS: Fehler bei Protokolladapter
    TNS-00507: Verbindung beendet
32-bit Windows Error: 109: Unknown error

In this case I see three error messages:
    TNS-12537:     TNS:connection closed
Cause:     "End of file" condition has been reached; partner has disconnected.
Action:     None needed; this is an information message.
    TNS-12560:     TNS:protocol adapter error
Cause:     A generic protocol adapter error occurred.
Action:     Check addresses used for proper protocol specification. Before reporting this error, look at the error stack and check for lower level transport errors. For further details, turn on tracing and reexecute the operation. Turn off tracing when the operation is complete.
    TNS-00507:     Connection closed
Cause:     Normal "end of file" condition has been reached; partner has disconnected.
Action:     None needed; this is an information message.
The most important is the tns-12560 error message, this means that an unsupported protocol exception was raised. Assuming you are using the same environment configuration when starting the listener with the local account and starting it with the domain authenticated user, then it has to do with permissions. Both the local administrator account and the domain authenticated user must belong to the ORA_DBA group, otherwise the user won't have enough privileges to start the listener.
On the other hand, make sure the sqlnet.ora file includes this line:
    SQLNET.AUTHENTICATION_SERVICES= (NTS)
If you use a domain user name, log on under a domain with username and password which has administrative privileges on each node

    Hi,
Please understand that if you want make some specific domain users add/remove hardware/software on domain computers, you should grant these users the local admin right. We could grant the local

  • Difference between AD domain user and local user

Hello, I think the title is self explanatory. I am trying to figure out difference between AD domain user and local user. SAP Help wasnt very helpful.
    Thanks.

    Hi,
It's about where the user accounts are kept. Domain users are users that are entered into the domain users group on a domain controller. These domain users can be centrally managed at the server. Whereas the local users are the users created in the local system.
In BPC, you can select users from either of them or in combination as well. However, If you want to make change in the local user credentials, you need to login to the system in which the user has been created and make the changes there. On the other hand, changes to domain users can be made from any domain connected machine with the right software and the necessary rights. The changes only need to be made once.
    Hope this helps.
