Domain wont open on new computer

hi ive recently upgraded to a new imac G5 intel duo core with i life 08.
i transfered my i web site from library / application / support / iweb/ domain
but it is not opening on my new computer. any suggestions?
thanks jessica

Mireille,
I thought of that too but then thought (I'm becoming a thinker!) that permissions for others usually is set to read by default which would enable her to open it at least...
To change permissions of the Domain file
Select Domain file press Command(Apple)+i under Ownership & Permissions go to =>Details =>Others and select Read & Write
You have to do that in the original user account and computer in which the Domain file was created.
If you don’t change permissions you will find an error while publishing and saving.
Other thought: what's the size of the domain file? (in KB or MB)
If it's very low it might be an empty one (some people here report that updating iWeb the domain gets emptied...)
Do you have a backup of it or another copy on the original computer?
Regards,
Cédric

  • Itunes wont open unless restarting computer

itunes wont open unless restarting computer. Bought my first piece of music through itunes store. Shortly thereafter couldn't open itunes after closing it unless restarting the computer. Had no problems previously. Not very computer savvy. Computer usually opens straight to admin user. Created a new (standard) user account as suggested. Opens, closes, reopens ok there. Tried disabling Bonjour, didn't help. Ideas?

No. Computer set up to automatically open "admin" user account when starting. Only created new "standard" user account to see if that worked.  It did. But still had same problem in admin user account.

  • App store wont open in new iPhone 4S

app store wont open in new iPhone 4S. Just bought it this afternoon.
    Only get a blank page.????

We've had the same problem with our iPhone 4s too.  I've had mine for a couple of months and just since Christmas have noticed that it sometimes won't load either.....just a nice white screen.  My husband on the other hand just got an identical phone to me a few days ago and it's even worse for getting on to the app site.  What is going on?  Even my son's iPod since Christmas has had difficulty getting on to it too.
I was told that it's basically an overload on the Apple server....understandable but where is the fix for this problem?  I'm looking through all forums and can't find anything.  I'm almost thinking of calling Customer Service again, but I've got other things to be doing than trying to troubleshoot this issue.
    Can anyone help????

  • My Apps wont open, and the computer (Powerbook G4) starts super slowly.

    Every time I boot up, my Powerbook boots very slowly, sometime taking up to five minutes. In addition to that, I can't open any apps, except for Finder, Firefox, Internet Explorer, and the basic functional things like settings. By they won't open, I mean the icons will bounce for a while, then a box pops up that says, for example;
The application Microsoft Office Setup Assistant Quit unexpectedly.
Mac OS X and other applications are not affected.
Click Relaunch to launch the applicationagain. Click Report to see more details, or send a report to Apple.
I really need to be able to use Microsoft word and stuff for school, and I can't afford a new computer. I'm running OS X 10.5.8
I've browsed several sites, and I tried all of the following things:
    Restarting in SafeBoot mode,
Making a new admin account to see if it launched quicker/ let me open apps (It didnt),
Pressing Control + Option + P + R (it worked once, but it hasnt worked since)
Used OnyX, (which now won't open either)
I checked to see what login items I had, and there weren't any.
    Please help!
    Thanks,

Also, I don't have any disks for this computer on hand, as it used to be a family friends. /:

    Hello Avery,
I received an email notification about this topic even though I have this forum set to not send them so I think perhaps you sent it to me deliberately hoping I might have some ideas?
First of all I think we should concentrate on your not being able run your essential apps and the crashes.  The disk repaired buttons being greyed out is usually because the account trying to do it doesn't have admin privileges.  It's a good idea to create a spare account that has admin privileges incase anything should ever go wrong with your default account.  From your post I think you know how to create a spare account via System Prefs.
I'm not sure whether we can fix the problem but we can try to identify it at least.  If you have any irreplacable data on your PowerBook I think you should back it up as a priority and if you don't have a backup drive or can't afford one at the moment then beg or borrow one.
I don't want to alarm you but if it turns out that your PowerBook is finally giving up the ghost your precious data will have at least have been backed up and ready to restore to a replacement machine.  Not long ago and in good condition a 12" aluminium PB G4, which I believe was 1.33GHz, sold on eBay for £45 ($72).  Early white MacBooks still pop up too and are inexpensive and faster and more RAM than PB G4 so all is not lost.  If we end up having to go down that route it might come in useful to make a note of this link:
    http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/powerbook_g4/index-powerbook-g4.html
Paste it into Stickies or Text Edit as they don't require a lot of system resourses so should be stable when launched.  If it turns out you need to replace any components the site will have links to suppliers.  Using that link you'll also be able to check the detailed specs of any second-hand Mac being sold on eBay before purchasing.
It would be useful to know exactly which PowerBook you have and how much RAM is installed. Click the Apple logo top right of screen\About this Mac\More info.
My first inclination is that it sounds like a possible RAM problem, either faulty or not enough.  You have 10.5.8 installed which might be the most recent OSX that you can upgrade to which we won't know until you let me know the exact model.  That the case was with my PB G4 874GHz on which I had 1Gb of RAM installed (512MB is the official maximum but 1Gb worked fine and has been stable).  I should say at this point that with 1Gb of RAM it was quite spritely running OSX10.4s but started to struggle when I upgraded to 10.5s.  Did you upgrade only to 10.5 only recently I wonder?
Let's try this: go to Applications\Utilities\Activity Monitor\Memory and launch a couple of an app and see how if Activity Monitor is spiking.  Start with light app like Stickies.  While still monitoring open and use another app, perhaps text edit.  Keep them open and playback soundfile perhaps, through a little player rather than iTunes if possible.  Is it overloading?  Once you've checked the memory do the same for the processor and the harddrive.
I've enabled this thread to receive emails so take some notes, set to with the various things I suggested if you think they might help, and get back to me when you have something.  I'm working this afternoon (it's 09.58 here in the UK) but will be around this morning, later this evening and for some of Saturday.  I may of course have already given it my best shot but I'm happy to help if I can.  If we don't make any progress it might be worth compiling your posts from this forum and posting in the MacBook Pro forum as there are plenty of experts in there that might be able to help more than I can.
    Good luck,
    K

  • My documents ending in .cwk won't open on new computer.

I had a mac running OS X 10.4. It ran Appleworks. All my documents are .cwk
My computer crashed and I purchased a new one. I have an external harddrive and was able to pull alot of my stuff off of it. This new computer runs OS X10.8. It won't open my .cwk documents. Can anyone tell me how to get it to open it? Do I need to purchase some program to be able to open my old documents???
Thanks for any help you can provide.

AW should be at version 6.2.9 (it probably is in Tiger).
Just drag WP file onto the Pages icon in the Dock, or a SS file onto the numbers icon. Likewise presentation files onto the Keynote icon.
Or you can right-click on the file and use the "open with" dialogue to choose the relevant application.
    Databases are less easy.
You can export AW DB files as ASCII text files which can then be imported into Numbers. Not ideal, but OK for simple lists.
You can then export them as .csv files which can be imported to most third-party database applications.
{Update; since writing this I've been informed that you can simply change the ASCII extension to .csv and import them directly without the intermediate step.
I don't have a means of checking that as I no longer have Bento (hated it).
    If you decide to try it, make sure you use a duplicate file before trusting your important data to the method}
For drawing and paint files, Intaglio looks OK, but pricey. You may find others with a bit of searching, but that's the only current app I found that claims to open AW draw and paint files (as distinct from MacPaint and MacDraw).

  • Wont open a new project

When you open garageband it comes up with usually a list of what you want to do new music project new podcast and so on. For some reason it wont let me click any of those icons listed. I cant even click the help sign. Well then i tried to click new under file and it wont let me do that either. It just does nothing when i click it. But if i open a pervios recording i did it will come up with that recording and i can do everything else but open a new recording and clicking some of those icons. I have no clue what it could be but im thinking it could be its missing a code for allowing me to do that but i might be wrong. Please repost if you no whats causing this.

it wont let me click any of those icons listed.
Somehow I'm picturing GB reaching out and grabbing your arm. But I'm sure you don't mean it won't let you, but rather nothing happens when you click the buttons, yes? (because if you have a version of GB that has an Arm, I'll buy it from you!)
The first two things I would suggest trying, in order:
    o Repair Permissions
    o Delete GB's prefs Files
. (Search your Hard Drive for "GarageBand" and delete the files that end in ".plist" and ".cs")

  • ITunes wont work since new computer

I had iTunes on my old computer and I just got a new computer and downloaded iTunes. I logged into iTunes but none of my songs are showing up, and I'm scared that if i plug my iPod into the computer that all of my songs will dissapear. Is there anyone who can tell me how to get my songs back without deleting all of them off of my iPod?

Your iTunes songs will be on the old computers hard drive, so you'll need to transfer them over to the new computer. You can plug your iPod into your new computer, it wont delete the tunes on it, but I dont think you can swap them from your iPod to iTunes very easily.
Look at these two threads which are related to transfering the files from ipod to itunes.

  • Itunes will not open on new computer

I am getting an error message "iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close" whenever I try to open iTunes or when I connect my iPod to my new computer. Help!

I got that too. I've tried to uninstall and redownload it, but it doesn't work. I also can't get the old version back because I uninstalled itunes. It's ridiculous.
    It said:
iTunes.exe has generated an errors and will be closed by Windows. You will need to restart the program.

  • Elder "domain" file opens only new iWeb site

    Hi folks,
[I'm a newbie on this site, tried to find the answer in other topics, but couldn't find....]
While buying a new hard disk, I made a simple backup of my old folders on my Ipod. Importing user/library/application support/iWeb/domain on to my (new) desktop, it's only starting up iWeb application, opening the choose...option, or a new test-site I recently made.
How to activate the elder domain (with a fullsize website in it) ?
[I can control-open domain, forcing to show the Html and see my text as text only]

    Hi Tom and others,
'm not sure what you are trying to do, but opening a Domain file >>accomplishes nothing. The Domain file must be read by the iWeb app
Shortly, the trouble is that bringing in the old "domain" file from my backup disk into the iWeb/application support - file [after deleting the newly formed "domain"-file], it doesn't affect the starting up iWeb at all. The app is always giving a new start-up: You only can choose for a new template.
So I don't want to change anything, I only want to add my old site after having cleaned up my original hard-disk [and making a backup by hand]
In fact there are some more files in the Library that form the "old" site. There is a iweb.plist, there are cache files including maps with cache-code. There are also specific preferences, there are even Thumbnails with a date filing in it. But you can't force iWeb to read these all, because it makes a new file after starting up, not being able to open something that was made before.
However, there is one thing that gives me hope: the resouces of the "old" domain are showing in the media browser.......after I changed one of the new preference files with the old one.
friendly regards and thanks for helping me so kind,

  • After closing firefox 7.0.1,win7 64bit,and reopenning, tabs on toolbar are there but wont open (something new).

Something new today. I am getting recently viewed tabs on the task bar (each of these may have a few tabs) which appear on the taskbar but wont open. In order to get something to open I have to reclick on the Firefox icon on the desktop. Then that session opens okay with multiple windows and tabs...but those other tabs remain unopennable .When hovering over them on the task bar they show blank boxes, whereas the others look ok.

Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
*Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
It is possible that there is a problem with the files sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox Profile Folder.
Delete the files sessionstore.js [2] and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox Profile Folder.
    * Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Open Containing Folder
    * http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox
If you see files sessionstore-##.js with a number in the left part of the name like sessionstore-1.js then delete those as well.<br />
Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups and open and closed (undo) tabs to get lost, so you will have to create them again (make a note or bookmark them).

  • Bought songs on another computer that wont play on new computer

i cant play the songs that i bought on my other computer.there are no exclamation marks.they just wont play.the songs that i bought on my new comp will play.the songs that i bought on my other comp. will play on my ipod just not on my computer.

I have 87 songs i bought on one computer with ITUNEs 6. I got a new tower, and downloaded ITUNES 7, which went out, found all the songs and sucked them into the new version. When I "synced" my IPOD to the new computer, it won't copy the songs, i don't have permission to have them. &^%$! (*&^#!

  • My Safari app wont open a new tab and crashes if I try, I've tried closing all apps and reopening. Its a new ipad air and only started doing this after I synched with itunes.

    Hi,
I have a new iPad Air. Since I synched it with my itunes account - all my details have been uploaded which is great but Safari will only work with one page open. If I try to open a new Tab it crashes. I have tried turning it off and on again. I tried closing all my apps that were open - including Safari and opening it again. Not sure what else to try.

    1. Settings>Safari>Clear History, Cookies and Data
    2. Hold the Sleep/Wake and Home button down for about 10 seconds until you see the Apple Logo

  • Itunes wont open on my computer

a couple days ago i got on itunes just fine
then the next day i try to get on and it wont
open. when i double click on itunes it switches from the itunes logo to a file to back to the logo and wont open.

I am not absolutely certain that i have understood you.
When you click on iTunes, do you see the hourglass briefly, but iTunes does not open and there is no error message?
If so open your taks manager after trying to open iTunes and look on the processes tab. Can you see iTunes.exe there although iTunes does not open?
If so you have a particular type of launch failure that is often associated with problems with cryptographic services.
Did you make any changes to your system before the problem started?
If it happened out of the blue, you need to run a scan for malware. It might also be worth a second opinion from an online scan but ONLY use a big name, such as Kapersky or similar. There are many scams out there that introduce malware.
    http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner
You need to be sure your system is clean before starting troubleshooting as malware can not only cause this problem but also interfere with a solution.
Once you have done that, here is a method for diagnosing the problem, you need to report back with the results and then we can look at a solution.
Troubleshooting silent launch failure in Windows XP
Before checking if iTunes works, restart your PC or close the iTunes.exe process with task manager if it is running.
A couple of simple things to try:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1776?viewlocale=en_US
Stop the bonjour service, this FAQ has instructions:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2250?viewlocale=en_US
But usually it is due to a problem with cryptographic services.
Check to see if you have your smart card service and that it is not set to disabled. For some reason iTunes needs it.
    Start>>Run>>Services.msc
you should find the smart card service in the list. Report back with your findings.
Malware can interfere with cryptographic services and also prevent a resolution so it is important to check that your system is clean before proceeding: Run a virus and spyware scan with up to date definitions.
Then work through *Method 4* in the following link:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/822798
You should be able to copy and paste the individual lines to save on typing.
Make a careful note of any error messages you get, they are important for diagnosis. Report back any error messages especially the names of any dlls mentioned.
If there are no errors try starting iTunes.
