Don't add song automatically

ITunes is the default reader for all audio files on my PC. Sometimes, i have MP3 files. I just want to listen it before to decide to import the song in my collection. The problem is that Itunes import it automatically. I have to destroy it if i don't like the song (most often). Does it possible to listen a song without importing it in my collection?

When you listen to a song in iTunes, it automatically adds it to your library. There is no option to turn that off.
For those one-time listens where you don't want to add the song to your iTunes library, use Quicktime or Windows Media Player or Winamp. (And if the song is a "keeper," then add it to your iTunes library!)
By the way, if you want to keep your default at iTunes, you can play a song in another player by right-clicking on the song in Explorer, and choose Open With > Winamp (for example).

Can someone please tell me if there is an option to have downloaded songs or transferred songs not put into folders automatically?

Move the files to the media folder as you want.
    iTunes prefs Advanced.
Uncheck Copy files to iTunes media folder when adding to iTunes.
Uncheck Keep iTunes media folder organized.
Then File > Add folder to library and select the iTunes media folder and the files will stay in the folder you have.
Is there some reason you want to manage the folders yourself instead of letting iTunes do it? You can still find everything through iTunes regardless of where it is or what it is named.

  • I am unable to add songs to a playlist, what do I do?

I am unable to add songs to a playlist.  Any suggestions.  All of the things I've previously done to add songs don't work now.

I am unable to add songs, even when iTunes Match is turned off.  Also, if I purchase a song on another device, it will appear in my playlists, but I cannot find it in the Music tab or when I search my library.  Anybody have a resolution on this issue?  All was well until iTunes 10.5.1.

  • ITunes won't add songs to my iphone/adds them but they don't actually add?

Ok, so I keep trying to add songs to my iPhone, and half of them just appear greyed out with the circle next to them, and no matter how many times i sync, they won't ever add. Then, out of the songs that do add randomly, most of them don't appear on my iPhone and when I try to play them on iTunes (in the iPhone playlist) an exclamation mark appears next to them (so they didn't actually add, but they're in my iTunes library so I don't understand why it "can't find" the songs when I add them to my iPhone). As a result, out of 433 songs I've been trying for 2 hours to add to my iPhone, only 14 actually show up on my iPhone. All the songs that have added AND actually showed up on my phone and played are songs that I've purchased from iTunes, so I'm not sure what that's about. Oh, I also had like 50 songs on my phone before I tried adding all the new ones earlier, and when I started adding new music, all the previous songs that were on my phone disappeared from my phone and have exclamation marks next to them in my phone's itunes playlist. Can someone explain what's going on with iTunes?

Disconnect your iPod from your computer.  Close iTunes and re-open.  Connect the iPod cable to a different usb port, re-connect and fingers crossed the error will go away (happened to me on Sunday and doing the above resolved).

  • I keep getting the message on iTunes that my Shuffle (which is current on updates) needs to be restored.  It is showing up in devices, but when I try to add songs to it, I don't get the little progress bar showing me that the song is being added. ***?

I updated to the new iTunes last week.  Today I plugged in my 4th generation Shuffle to add some new songs.  The shuffle appears in Devices, but when I try to add songs, I'm not getting the progress bar at the top of the screen, so I'm assuming the song isn't being added.  I tried ejecting the Shuffle and plugging it in again, and I got a message that my iPod needed to be restored before it could be used with iTunes -- even though the screen also said the Shuffle is up to date on the software. I finally gave in and restored it, but I continue to get the same message.  When I eject the iPod and try to play it now, I'm getting nothing, and when it is connected to the usb port, the orange light is continually flashing.  I've been trying to figure this out for about 3 hours now, so if anyone could help me, I'd be eternally grateful!

The 1st and 2nd gen shuffles do not have an automatic syncing mode, like later shuffles and the "big" iPods.  It is maintained manually (or by using the Autofill feature).
If the iTunes sidebar (along left side of window) is hidden, from the menu bar, under View, select Show Sidebar.  The shuffle appears in the sidebar, under DEVICES, when connected.
To add songs to the shuffle...  Show a list of songs in the iTunes window.  For example, you can select Music under LIBRARY (in the sidebar) to show your complete iTunes music library list.  Select a song and drag it to the shuffle in the sidebar.  You can do this with more than one song selected.  Alternately, select the song(s), right-click the selection, and choose the command to Add to Playlist -> [name of iPod].
To remove songs from the shuffle...  Select the shuffle in the sidebar.  To the right, it's Settings screen is shown.  Toward the top, where it says Settings, click on On This iPod (to the right).  The list of songs on the shuffle is shown below.  Select the song you want to remove and press Delete on the keyboard.  You can do this with more than one song selected.
NOTE:  At the bottom of the shuffle's list of songs, there are controls for the Autofill feature.  You can also use Autofill to fill your shuffle from your music library or from a specific playlist.

  • HT4759 How do I set up icloud for my ipod shuffle on my new computer windows 8. I downloaded the icloud but it tells me that i don't have the icloud and I cannot add songs to my ipod.

How do I set up icloud for my ipod shuffle on my new computer windows 8. I downloaded the icloud but it tells me that i don't have the icloud and I cannot add songs to my ipod.

An iPod Shuffle can't use iCloud.  It can only be used on an iOS device (iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch) running iOS 5 or higher, or on a supported Mac or PC.
Also you can't create and iCloud acount on your PC (or your iPod Shuffle).  You have to create your account on an iOS device (iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch) running iOS 5 or higher, or on a Mac running OS X Lion (10.7.2) or higher.  After creating the account on one of these devices you can sign into it on your PC.  But this still won't allow you to add songs to your iPod Shuffle as it doesn't support iCloud.

  • Can't add songs to iTunes 10.4.1

Previously, I was able to add songs to iTunes by directly dragging files from any location to any iTunes playlist or the general Music section and this would automatically add the new songs to my library.
After the 10.4.1 update, I can no longer drag songs into iTunes to add to the library.
Attempting to drag and drop crashes iTunes (beach ball appears and I have to force quit).
The only way to add songs is to use the "automatically add to..." folder nested in the iTunes Media folder.
This makes adding songs a much longer process because I have to copy the files into the designated folder and wait for iTunes to automatically add them to the library.
Previously, when I was able to drag new files into a playlist and the files would be copied to the library's main directory, it made it easier to see—right away—the new files added to the library via the playlist, instead of having to deal with smart playlists.
    Does anyone have this problem?
Does anyone know how to fix this?
I have tried reinstalling iTunes already.

My problem originated from the fact that I have upgraded to LION.
My old Itunes library was still saved in a folder called previous systemd. (wel done software devellopers).
I have dived up my iTunes books and refreshed my knowledge and now in advanced settings of itunes specified the path to the library in this folder and have my whole 63 gig library back.
I have also a new program called PowerTunes and with this program I can make iTunes finding every music file or folder on my computer. So instead of me adding things in Itunes which for some reason is difficult now I let my new program find every piece of music ever installed on any dik connected to my computer.

  • Songs automatically delete

Is there a way to set the itunes to NOT delete my songs from the Ipod Shuffle if i have removed them from my library?
I spent about 3 hours loading in songs to my shuffle.
I then deleted those songs from my library.
The next time i plugged in my ipod shuffle to charge, it automatically deleted all of my songs... now i have to go back and load all the songs again??
what a waste of 3 hours!!

    Hi Keith,
It's important to understand that the Shuffle is very different in one important ways from all other iPods. All other iPods have the "manual management mode" where you can do what Jeff describes, ie disabling "auto-syncing" and allowing you to add songs from lots of different iTunes Libraries, or deleting songs from your computer but leaving them on the iPod. But NOT the Shuffle.
When you plug the iPod Shuffle into a computer it checks to see if the songs on the shuffle are on in iTunes (there's no way to stop this). If there are songs on the shuffle not in iTunes then iTunes shows a message saying do you want to mount the shuffle and delete the songs and replace them songs from this iTunes Library (this message appears if you plug it into a different computer, it may not appear in your case because you're plugging it into the same computer).
Basically the Shuffle is the least expensive iPod and therefore has the most limited feature set.
The only work around this situation is not to delete songs from your computer or to buy another type of iPod which won't give you the same problems.
What I don't understand is why you delete the songs from your Library in the first place. Are you that cramped for space on your hardrive? Deleting files from your computer will not improve the performance of your computer unless you're really at the limit of the space on your drive.
    Hope this helps!
    Sara.

  • Add songs without syncing?

Here's the scoop: I am leaving for Europe soon and want to take my iPod, of course. My college computer is the one where I have all my music stored but that's disassembled and stored away for the summer.
I recently bought some new music that I want to put on my iPod. But when I put the new CDs in my parents' computer and it shows up in iTunes, I want to add it to my iPod without erasing my library (this would be disastrous). In other words, I want to selectively add songs but not sync the entire library.
The computer I would be using is authorized for my iPod, but it doesn't have my personal iTunes library on it, so I don't want the entire thing synced to my device. I just want to use it to add my new CDs so i can have the music with me when I leave.
If I change iTunes to manually manage songs, will it let me just add the songs to my device? Thank you!

If I change iTunes to manually manage songs, will it let me just add the songs to my device?
As long as it's not an iPod shuffle, yes. You'll just need to make sure it doesn't automatically synchronize when you connect the system to your parents' computer. Say "no" when it offers to synchronize, or while connecting the iPod to the computer, hold down the Shift and Ctrl keys in Windows (Command and Option keys on a Mac). This should stop the iPod from auto synching with iTunes and the iPod will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. This may take between 3 and 25 seconds depending on your computer.
You'll then be able to set iTunes for manual management of that iPod and put your songs onto it without erasing what's already there.
Have a great time in Europe.
    Regards.

  • Can you help me add songs from iTunes 11.0.1 to iPhone4S?

I have a new MacBook Air and am trying to add songs from it (iTunes 11.0.1) to iPhone4S.
However, drag & drop does nothing, which is what I had done on my PC to add songs previously.
Note: I specifically don't want to sync my songs/libraries.  I just want to add the new stuff I uploaed to MacBook Air iTunes to my iPhone4S.
Any thoughts/help would be GREATLY appreciated.

To be fair, not the news I was hoping to hear, but I'd prefer to hear the bad news sooner rather than after expending more time and energy on a fool's errand.
I uploaded the CDs on my MacBook Air as I'm moving everything there.
So, rather than put them on the old computer and then sync there, I'm guessing at some point I'm going to have to bite the bullet and move all my songs from PC to my Mac.
I imagine I'll have to back up on new computer and erase in the process of putting the old songs and the new on there, getting them off my new computer.
One would hope there'd be an easier and less laborious method, especially since in my established pattern of procrastination I can see me putting this off for a while.
Anyway, thanks again for the feedback.

  • How can I add songs from my internal library to my external backup library without losing ratings and comments?

Hi, I have some 30.000 Songs in my constantly growing internal library and another 25k in my external backup library. I noticed that I lost all my ratings when fusing my libraries the last time.
As ratings and comments are essential for my work as a radio dj: How can I fuse libraries or add songs from my internal to my external library and keep ratings and comments and: How can I make sure, iTunes adds ratings and comments from songs I still have in my internal library to the same songs (without ratings and comments) in my external library? Thanks a lot for your help!

I use http://decimus.net/Synk to keep my iMac's iTunes synchronized with the backup iTunes folder on an external disk.  Any changes I make are automatically synced to the backup.  You might find it useful.

    Do any of the following:
To change the playlist’s title and description, type any changes.
To add a song, click Add Songs, select a song, and then click Add. When you’re finished adding songs, click Done.To find a song by album, artist, or song title use the Search field. To hear a 30-second preview of the song before adding it, double-click the song’s title or click the Preview button .
To remove a song, click the “x” to the right of the Buy button for the song you want to remove.

  • Cannot add songs to shuffle

2nd gen shuffle wont add songs from itunes. Did the five r's reinstalled itunes. ipod shows up on itunes and computer. when I click autofill it tries to load songs but an error message( cannot write or read disk ) pops up.

I have the exact same problem, I have 2nd gen too. The only way I could 'switch' songs was to install the restore utility and then restore factory settings and install my ipod again. I could check the box that asks to randomly choose songs from my library and my ipod would sync up and it would be good. Anytime after I wanted to sync it would display that error. And if I didn't check the box at the install to automatically pick songs, it wouldn't sync anything. Annoying...

  • I can no longer add songs to my Ipod touch

These are the things I have done:
I cleared space, as mine doesn't have a lot of it.
I updated both itunes and Ipod software
I have restarted both my Mac and my Ipod.
I have checked to ensure that "manually add songs" or whatever it says is enabled
The plus sign appears and once it even said "Updating files on 'Aquarius' " but when I checked, there was nothing there.
I don't want to go to the apple store as its a bit of a treck and Im disabled so its not that easy.
Please help, music is the only thing that makes it better and the new GreenDay comes out in a few hours.

I fixed it. Had to do a complete restore. Bleh! But so glad to have my baby back.
    Thanks for viewing!

Your iPod can only be synced with one computer at a time.  If you try to sync it with a new computer/iTunes library, it will replace the contents of the iPod with whatever is in the new library. You should probably disable the autosync functionality first by going to Edit -> Preferences, clicking the Devices tab, and enabling the prevent iPods,iPhones, and iPads from automatically syncing option.
Before doing anything else,  authorize the new computer with your iTunes Account.  In iTunes, choose Store -> Authorize This Computer and enter in the correct credentials. Either copy a backup file from your old computer to your new one or create a new backup of your iPod in iTunes before letting it sync.
Then right->click on your iPod Touch from under the Devices section in the left hand pane of iTunes and choose Backup. You might also want to take a look at this article to see what it all included in the backup.
