Don't buy an iPhone if you use a Windows PC

iPhones are made to work with Mac computers. Your experience will be limited if you have a Windows PC. I want a phone that can stream longer home videos from the phone to the PC to send to family living in other states. The Apple program iPhoto will not work with Windows. I may be the only person on the planet who has read the 163-page iPhone 4 manual. Under the instructions for streaming video, it tells me that it cannot be done if I have a Windows computer. Yes, iTunes and Quick Time media players have Windows conversions, but so far iPhotos does not, and it is the only program used for sending longer home video from the phone to the computer.
The phone's memory allows me to email or text a 50 second video, but if I want a longer video, I have to stream it and I can’t because iPhoto is for Macs only. Word to the wise: If you buy an iPhone it is best to have an Apple computer or you will not be able to enjoy all the iPhone features. BTW, the Droid and Blackberry are Windows compatible. I hope my lesson learned the hard way will help others when making a decision about which phone to buy.

There are other options  to make longer videos available for others to view. Telling people that you shouldn't buy an iPhone if you use a Windows PC is ridiculous....you do realize that despite Apple's popularity most of the computers owned are PC's and not MAC machines. Which would make it easy to assume that there are quite a few Windows PC users that are iPhone owners...and are more than happy with their device and it's abilities. If streaming is that important to you then for you, perhaps you either need a different device or you need to get a MAC. Otherwise, consider uplaoding the video to a platform that you can easily share all of your videos with anyone you wish. It's not rocket science and it doesn't make your videos any less shareable. FYI...perhaps this is possible on a droid device but prior to getting the iPhone I was a long time BB user. You COULD NOT stream or send long length videos to a computer or via text or any other format. You could sync it to the computer and upload it to a site that others could go view. You could upload the video from the BB to sites like FaceBook and YouTube, but the time it took was long depending on the video and more apt to fail....versus just syncing the video to your computer via the desktop manager and then uploading it to the site of your choice. I'm not an Apple worshipper...but your declaration based off of your inability to have access to a MAC program not because you have an iPhone, but because you chose to purchase a Windows PC is beyond ridiculous. And your assumption that you're the only person to have read the manual is laughable at best. Perhaps if you had done your research for the function you wanted to be able to do prior to purchasing your iPhone (the manual has been available for the iPhone online since the iPhone 4 was first made available to AT&T...several months before VZW got it, giving you plenty of time to research this info in that manner not to mention you had free access to forums such as the Apple Support forum that could have given you first hand info on whether the action you wanted to perform was possible for an iPhone owner that uses Windows PC. Plus, if you haven't had your phone for too long you have time to return it. If it has been too long you can easily sell it assuming that it is still is excellent condition and get very good money on it...money that can go towards getting the device you feel will better suit your needs. At any rate, good luck with whatever you choose. Hopefully you can find an alternative method to fit your needs...or you can get  the device (or a MAC) to help you get what you are looking for.

If you buy an Unlocked iPhone from the US, you can use that phone on any carrier that supports that particular phone (either GSM or CDMA). So yes, this is possible. But if anything happens to the phone that requires Apple's help, you will have to ship it back to US for that service.

What a completely worthless reply. But that's your MO. Furthermore, what type of phone makes no difference when you read LG's response below.
Anyway, Verizon does not care or they would have responded to my support request by now so they are going to lose my extra $10 a month for the service starting today.. LG did respond, and blames Verizon.  Here's LG's response:

    Dear xxx
I do apologize for any inconvenience this issue may have caused you.
It seems that this is an issue with the Verizon Family Locator app. Their support forums show many customers having problems with the app on several different model phones.
Please feel free to contact us if you have any additional questions or concerns. Thank you again for contacting LG Electronics.

  • If i buy an iphone, can i use it as ipod touch?

Just a question asked by a noob. If i buy an iphone (more cheap) than an ipod touch, do i need to sign a contract to buy it?
I'm mexican but i want an iphone only for the music and camera. Do i need to sign a cotnract o something like that.
P.D Sorry for my bad english.

You can use an iPhone just for music and the camera (as if permanantly in Airplane mode) if you want.
I presume you mean you have the chance of buying a used iPhone more cheaply than an iPod touch, since retail price of an iPhone is still 2 or 3 times that of iPod touch.

  • How do you use the windows User32.dll Library functions to read variables from other applications that are running

I am trying to read a text box from a programme running at the same time as my Labview application using calls to the Windows
User32.dll. I believe I need to find the window handle for the 'form' containing this text string and use this together with
various other defined input variables to access the sting.
I have no experience of using this 'Call Library Function Node', but have an understanding of the 'C' programming language. Does anyone have
example Labview code showing how this might be done.
    Thanks

If you're trying to access information that's being displayed in the window of another application and that application has no ActiveX interface, then yes, Windows calls can be used. There's a very good example on calling DLLs that ship with LabVIEW. Open the Example Finder (Help->Find Examples) and switch to the Search tab. Enter "Call" in the search box and open the VI "Call DLL". Run the VI, select any of the examples, and click the "Open Example VI..." button. That shows you how to call a DLL.
Now, given that you have no experience in calling DLLs, have only an "understanding" of C (which to me means you have never written something like a DLL), and don't seem to know that much about what Windows functions you may need, you're going to find this route pretty difficult, especially since you have to deal with Windows API calls, which are not always that easy to do from LabVIEW.
Let me propose an alternate solution. Go over to http://www.autoitscript.com/autoit3/ and download AutoIt. This is an automation tool that allows you to automate just about anything you want. It has an ActiveX interface that you can call from LabVIEW. I've attached an example VI that shows you how to use it to get the value of a text box from one of the tabs in the computer "System Properties" control panel applet.

  • Buy an iPhone but not use the phone part

I have a couple questions and I was wondering if anybody on here could answer them for me.
I want to basically use the iPhone as a PDA. I don't want the cell part because I'm currently happy with the cell phone service I have.
So is it possible to use the iPhone without having to sign up for a contract?
Like using the browser, camera, contacts, etc. but not having to use the cell phone part.
I don't want to really go for the iPod touch because it doesn't have the amount of functions the iPhone has.
Thanks a ton if you can answer my question!!!

No. It has to be activated and using a service plan with AT&T.
I don't want to really go for the iPod touch because it doesn't have the amount of functions the iPhone has.
Sorry, but the iPod touch is exactly for that, but you really can't call either device a PDA. THe iPod touch s a media player at heart, and the iPhone is a phone at heart.

  • When you a buy a iPhone do you pay $200? or $300 but get $100 back?

The reason i am asking this is because my father is eligable for a upgrade from sprint while i am not, so i am going to buy the phone with hus number but trasnfer the phone to my line. If apple does have a rebate i wont be allowed to do this. Please help

This mail-in rebate comes from Sprint only, so Sprint is charging their customers $100 more for a subsidized iPhone and force their customers to wait 30 days to send in for a $100 rebate that takes another 6 weeks to be received.
It is a scam alright - Sprint gets to keep $100 in the bank for another 2-3 months for every iPhone sold at the subsidized or discounted price and some customers may forget about the rebate and won't send it in. There is certainly a limit for being able to send in for the rebate - wait too long to send it in and you are out of luck.
You have two choices. Lose the $100 rebate from Sprint, or activate the iPhone with your Dad's line/number for 30 days in order to send in for the rebate. After confirming the rebate has been accepted, take your Dad's existing phone and the iPhone that was activated with Sprint to a Sprint store to switch the activation for the iPhone from your Dad's line/number to your line/number - or maybe this can be done over the phone.

  • IMessage how many iPhones can you use with the same iMessage account

i have both a phone number in Ecuador and one in the USA when i visit and i want people that write me on my ecuadorian account will be able to write me on my USA phone number too. i assume that since you can push i message to otehr devices you could theoretically do so with two iphone or two iphone lines?
also does imessage works on edge? like everything else?

All my family devices are tied to one Apple ID.  We did that b/c we would consolidate our purchases by syncing via 1 Mac in the house.  So any device could purchase an app/music/whatever, then we would plug it into the main Mac and transfer the purchase to that and then plug in other devices and add to them.  Pain the rear!  I think my example of tedious process above is one reason for iCloud.  So, now with iCloud we should be able to purchase from any device and the other devices would have access without wires.   I thought the only way to tie them all together is if they are all under the same AppleID.  That is how iCloud knows they are related, right?  Makes sense to me.   However, on each device, we use their own @me/@mac email account to setup iCloud b/c each email is tied to that family member but under the master Apple ID for our family.  Each email account has their own contacts, emails, etc.  I thought that was the way to setup.  Shouldn’t this work?  Kind of separate but yet tied together via the 1 Apple ID.  Thoughts?

  • Buying an Iphone 5s to use in Paraguay

So, as far as I could read anywhere, the only authorized resellers in PARAGUAY are Tigo and Claro. This suggest that the only way to acquire an Iphone 5s is to sign a contract with those carriers.
BUT, if you go the apple store, you have the option to buy a GSM unlocked phone. So, what's the deal with that? Doesn't "GSM  unlocked" mean that it'll work with any nanochip, anywhere in the world? Am I able to just buy from the store and make it work with my current, contract-free carrier?, will that work?

    gastonetchev wrote:

No. It doesn't. It means it will work with any supported GSM carrier. It should work with an unsupported, but compatible GSM carrier, however, not all features may be available.

  • How to fix SPAM on iPhone if you use IMAP + Mail.app

This isn't going to work for everyone, but for me, it works beautifully. I thought I'd share this here in case anyone else is in the same boat
Summary: Since my G5 is turned on 24/7, I have Michael Rothwell's IMAP-IDLE plug-in installed, and do all of the filtering near real-time in Mail.app. My iPhone is set to check every 15 minutes, and because the junk is filtered instantly at Mail.app, I never see it on the iPhone except in the junk mail folder
    (1) download the imap-idle plugin at http://fivepoundsflax.blogspot.com/
    (2) install into mail.app
    (3) configure spam filtering in mail.app
    (4) leave running 24/7 to filter email on the fly and near real-time

    Or you could try this:
Delete the account you want to change from POP to IMAP
Put the iPhone into Flight Mode so that it doesn't automatically set up the POP account.
Create the new account and enter the settings
Server incoming and out going: mail.btinternet.com
    Incoming Port: 993 SSL security
    Outgoing Port: 465 SSL security
Once the IMAP settings are entered remove Flight Mode.
During the set up process you will probably get a few messages complaining that your iPhone can't connect to your email server.
    Just ignore these

  • Can you use a Windows-only printer over a print server?

I recently found a large format printer from Ricoh that has great reviews and prints postscript with laser speed/economy with some new inkjet technology only they have - perfect for a home design office and a LOT cheaper than a typical tabloid laser.
Problem is, it's only compatible with Windows systems...
Someone told me it's possible to get a print server to link my Airport Extreme networked Powerbook G4 to this incompatible printer but i haven't seen any print servers that have a Ricoh print driver listed in their specs. Am I out of luck or could it still work with some kind of generic driver or something? Thanks in advance for any guidance you can offer.
Printer is the Ricoh Aficio G7500

Print servers don't use a driver. The protocols that communicate with them are standard protocols handled by the OS (Windows, OS X, linux).
If the Ricoh is a postscript printer, it's only compatible with Windows systems isn't quite right. Any postscript level II or III printer is compatible with OS X. The problem may be that the plugins used by OS X's print dialog (Copies & pages menu options) for special features like alternate paper tray may not be provided, so you'll have access to fewer features.
But you say it's an inkjet technology printer - most of those aren't postscript printers, and that Does Require a driver for OS X.
The only other option I can think of is a Windows computer set up to be postscript RIP/printer server:

  • Can you use a Windows 7 Home Premium CD twice for bootcamp?

I currently have Windows 7 installed on my Mac Mini. Could I use the same install disk to make a new partition on an iMac that I will be getting? If not, is there a way to transfer over the partition, without copying the Mac partition as well?

Windows 7 can only be installed on one computer at a time.
