Don't Disconnect

Hey there,
I'm having major problems with my iPod. When ever I connect it to my computer my iPod screen says do not disconnect and my computer doesn't see that my iPod is connected. Everything I've tried to do to fix it on my computer just freezes my computer. I've tried to push the menu and ok button and that didn't do anything either. I did diconnect my iPod when it said not to and then it came up with a message to go to www.apple.com/support/ipod. I just don't know what to do anymore!! Please tell me what to do!!

how did you solve your problem, this issue seems to be frequent?

  • IPod Updater 2006-06-28 still says Don't Disconnect...

    Hello.
This evening I tried updating the firmware of my iPod. Everything seemed to go ok. When this was finished, their still was the "do not disconnect" message on the screen of my iPod.
I decided to try the restore button.
iPod Updater 2006-06-28 now says: restoring done, wait till it is really done, don't disconnect the iPod.
Now, this message is already on my screen for more than a hour. My question: is this ok and normal?
(perhaps I have to say that my iPod wasn't charged completeley.)
I hope someone knows something about this.

Ok, you see the thing is, I'm only 13 and I have like
no idea as to what I should do. and most of all, I
don't really have a clue as to what you just said.
I'm sorry if I'm bugging you, but I think what
you're saying is that if I remove itunes and i
reinstall it, all my songs will be there? This is
so confusing. You know what? Thanks for your help
    anyway. I appreciate it.
Okay Shorty1324, I have uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes i don't know how many times and my music files and folders have never been erased from my computer so you don't need to worry about that. However, if you do decide to uninstall iTunes again and think it may erase your music, try making a backup copy (not a CD) of your all music files and/or folders. meaning, make a totally new folder, save it somewhere on your hard drive or desktop where YOU know everything in it will not be harmed if iTunes decides to go ape (for lack of better words). if everything works according to plan, (meaning iTunes works without any problems) then your iTunes problem is solved. but keep the backup copy of your music in case something else goes wrong. hopefully this explanation helps you. i know it's hard to understand technical jargon but you will learn as you get older. no worries!

  • IPod Video 80GB Continues to Display "Don't Disconnect" After Synching

When I synch and iTunes 9.2 says synching is complete, my iPod continues to display "Don't Disconnect." I have reset the iPod several times but each time the problem continues. I have attempted to restore the iPod to factory settings but restore results in an error message and fails. When I disconnect the iPod from the computer and reset, it works normally -- until I reconnect to the computer and the synching problem reappears. iTunes 9.2 seems to have no issues for me apart from this. I have tried using different USB connections to the computer, checking the eject icon in iTunes, re-installing iTunes 9.2 from apple.com rather than software update, and these also make no difference. Is iTunes 9.2 simply incompatible with the video iPod? Suggestions?

First and foremost, when you eject the iPod from iTunes, it will usually disappear from your computer and from itunes, but the message on the iPod will continue to display for some time while it continues whatever internal maintenance & cleanup tasks it does.
So one thing that comes to mind is that because this can actually take as long as over a minute or more before the display clears the screen, you may simply not be waiting long enough before you do a reset.
When you are connected to iTunes, the do not disconnect screen should be BLINKING. Once you hit eject, that display should STOP blinking and sit there steady on. Does it do that? If so, this usually indicates it is ejected and doing its internal thing and simply has not got back to clearing the screen and going back to normal play mode.
When the display stops blinking, it is safe to disconnect it. So if you are in a hurry and wanting to head out the door, go ahead and unplug it. But if you are only waiting 10 or 15 seconds for it to clear, try waiting a few minutes and see what happens.

  • IOS 5 - Upgrade (Don't disconnect)

I have noticed a lot of people are finding they are missing apps, music, and other items after upgrading to iOS 5.  I too had this problem, so I thought.  What was really happening is there was nothing on my iPhone or iPad after the upgrade and the devices showed the upgrade was complete.  However, I also noticed in iTunes I had popups which said things like, "Restoring Apps" followed by "Restoring Music".
As I watched my iPhone and my iPad the apps and other items started appearing one by one.  It took 15 to 20 minutes for all my items to be restored.  It could take more or less time depending on how much is installed/stored on the device.
So my warning to everyone is, DO NOT DISCONNECT your iPhone or iPad until all the popups have completed.
Once all the popups are gone, check your device.  If everything is there, then disconnect, if not then perform a restore from the backup iTunes made before upgrading your iPhone or iPad.
I hope this helps clear up some of your problems.

I have a question, when your apps were restored, was the data for all your apps restored as well?  For instance, if you had a game that was in a certain state from playing so many hours, was it restored to that state?  I'm very nervous about upgrading, all previous upgrades I've done did not touch the app data, but this one seems to blow away all the apps.

  • What happen when I disconnect my ipod while saying "don`t disconnect..."

When I refresh my ipod or i want just charge the battery sometimes it says for soooo a ling time "do not disconnect" but on the itunes stays : ipod refreshed".I need it so i disconnect it . Can be dangerous for my ipod?? Please let me know!!!

You should click the little eject button to the right of the ipod's name in itunes, wait a few seconds and the do not disconnect will disappear.
It is possible to lose data on the ipods hard drive if you disconnect it while it is actually doing something, so it is best to eject it before disconnecting.

  • Don't disconnect always showing

My new I-pod always shows the Do not Disconnect symbol no matter what I do. I eject it from I-tunes manually and it still says that and even when I close out of I-tunes completely the sign stays.
Can someone help understand as to why this little screen refuses to leave my I-pod even after everything it could be updating from is closed down.
It's also stopped showing the charging sign. It just stays on Do not disconnect

  • Can I switch off my computer while my nano is saying "Do not disconnect"?

Please help me. This morning I couldn't switch my nano off - only on the docking speakers so I looked at the online help, tried resetting and then decided to try the update and or restore. When I plugged the iPod in, iTunes asked me if I wanted to update the software so I said yes, updated it and then the computer said it needed to be switched off. I said I would switch off later (as my nano was plugged in and I didn't want to ruin it). Then I used the software to update the iPod - but afterwarsd it says do not diconnect all the time and iTunes says that the files are being used by another application. I have also tried restoring the iPod twice. Still the same. Now I am stuck with the iPod in the computer saying don't disconnect - WHAT CAN I DO PLEASE!

is it in disc mode? go to the bottom right of your start bar and find the little gray box looking thing with the green arrow pointing left, right click this and hit remove hardware, a dialog box will come up, click stop on usb storage device or whatever it says and it should say it is now safe to remove your hardware and your ipod screen should go to the main menu or the charging screen.

  • Compaq Presario S4500UK Won't start after wall-socket disconnect. Is this a CMOS battery issue?

Recent software rebuild with additional internal HDD (March 2011) as dual-boot WinXP/Linux setup worked fine.  CD/DVD RW drive started to give cyclic redundancy check errors so replaced drive a week ago.  All still OK.  Change of electricity provided and increased energy usage conciousness switched off machine at the wall overnight after normal shutdown.  Machine would not restart in the morning.  Did not load BIOS; all lights came on briefly and then went dead after 3-4 seconds with power light still on.  One can get a similar effect by plugging the keyboard into the PS2 Mouse Socket as I did once!
After 20 minutes or so trying all sorts of things managed to boot from Linux CD.  Shut down/restarted and all's fine provided I don't switch off at the wall.  Also seems to be OK after brief 5-10 second power off but problem persists with any long disconnection.  It seems that after 10-15 minutes power-on and 2-3 attempts at restarting, the BIOS comes up and all's well, although it has stopped in the middle of a Windows or Linux start-up on one or two occasions.
Am I right in thinking the problem might be the result of a dead CMOS battery?  The reason I ask is that the clock seems to keep time OK and there are no apparent issues with BIOS once it loads.
Any help/guidance would be much appreciated.  Further config info below.

I didn't get any replies so I went ahead with replacing the CMOS battery but that hasn't helped.  The problem is also evident if I power down and leave it for about an hour or more before trying to restart even if I don't disconnect the wall socket.  It seems to take about 15-20 goes at restarting before it fires up.  I would be really grateful for any clues as to what's wrong.

    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

Still no replies to my increasingly ticklish problem so I'll give you the benefit of further investigations in case it prompts some words of wisdom...
So it's not the CMOS battery.  Other symptoms emerge...
    1.    "Crashes" are absolute, immediate and without warning - just like someone turned the lights out.
    2.    "Crashes" also happen occasionally when firing up Truecrypt using the "Auto-Mount Devices" option but thus far have not occured when selecting the required device first.
    3.    The problem appears to be getting worse in that it takes longer to persuade the machine to start from cold.
    4.    If I remove one of the HDDs the machine boots up fine - or it has so far (about 10 times after power disconnect for 1hr or more).
This makes me start to suspect the PSU.  I've done the diagnostic checks on the HP website
    http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&taskId=110&prodSeriesId=...
and it appears that the Power Supply is working just fine but if I remove a device not required at boot-up the thing will fire up first time.  My analysis seems to suggest that the existing PSU (Lite-On PS-5251-08HP) rated at 250W is working at near capacity but it cannot service the peak loads when the HDDs spin up during boot-up.
    Can anyone confirm this, pls?
If this is the case, can anyone suggest a suitable upgrade?  There's loads of product out there with prices ranging from £15 to £150 but as I'm a bit of a numpty and I don't seem to be able to narrow the choice down sensibly.  I've tried going through the info on the HP website and various tech forums/fora without getting very far.  It would be brill if there's someone out there that knows the product and could share their knowledge.
    Tks in anticipation!

  • Why don't songs appear on iPod?

I click and drag songs from itunes window into iPod window on my Mac. Then when I'm done and disconnect, they do NOT appear on the iPod, it's blank. Any ideas? I am running iTunes 7, Mac 10.3.9, with a brand new iPod, purchased Oct 11, 2006.
    Heeeeeeeelp! LOL

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Dragging songs only works if you have selected to manually manage songs and videos? Have you?
Connect the iPod to the computer. When the iPod appears in iTunes, select it under Source (on the left) and click the summary tab. Make sure manually manage songs and videos is checked. Click Apply. Do not go and change any settings in the other tabs (for what is synced to the iPod), because doing so will enable automatic updating again.
When you drag the songs to the iPod, is iTunes showing that it is adding them (not just Updating iPod, but does it actually show the song names or 1 out of 10, for example)?
Are you adding all types of songs (from CDs), videos, purchased content, or what?

  • IPhone 6 constantly disconnecting from Audi MMI

My iPhone 6 constantly (and, it appears, randomly) disconnects from the MMI system in my 2013 A6. I updated the cable to the latest version (genuine Audi) to see if this solved the issue but it continues to do so. I didn't have the problem with my iPhone 5 which I never bothered to upgrade to iOS 8, so I suspect it's an iOS 8 problem. I've tried multiple ways of connecting, phone off, connect, then switch on. Phone on, connect, MMI on etc. etc. to no avail. My current suspicion is it may be a charging issue as my phone was 100% charged this morning when I plugged it in, and everything worked fine but when I plugged in this evening (circa 45% charged) the constant disconnecting occurred again. It will connect, play a few seconds/minutes of a track, disconnect and then the process repeats.

I have the same problem with my 2014 Audi A5/iPhone 6 with the 4F0051510AD lightning cable. This cable has now been replaced with a new 4F0051510AL lightning cable which my Audi dealer has ordered so I will see if this fixes the problem. Apparently this new AL cable also transfers Album Art and Video unlike the AD cable. I don't think it is an Apple iOS issue as my iPhone 5 and iPod Touch 5th Gen don't disconnect and they all have 8.1.1 installed, so seems more like a hardware issue.
I currently have the 4F0051510R 30 Pin cable with the lightning adapter and it works fine with the iPhone 6 and transfers Album Art but not video due to the adapter not supporting video transfer.
I didn't realise the 4F0051510AD lightning cable stayed connected if the phone was charged but I have just tested this and it does seem to be the case, still not ideal though!

  • Zumo  500 Bluetooth disconnects

I have loaded the latest OS 3.0 on my iphone 3g.
I currently use a Garmin Zumo 500 with a scaler rider headset on my motorbike.
My headset to the Zumo works great in streaming the audio etc.
My problem i have is that the iphone constantly disconnects from the zumo when trying to answer a call, it can receive 1 or maybe even 2 calls, when i try and answer another (not at the same time of course) the zumo disconnects from iphone, yet on the iphone still shows connected.
I use my Wife's HP phone or even Nokia or even an HTC TyTn, they don't disconnect, when i speak to Garmin they say it is a Iphone problem.
Please help, I love my Iphone and my Zumo, and would love to get this working.

    Hi Lionel
I use my iPhone 3G with my Zumo 500. I do not BT from Headset to Zumo but only from iPhone to Zumo - I then have cable running from Zumo into Helmet.
I had connectivity issues with iPhone-Zumo (dropped connection) and then updated my Zumo firmware which for me, solved the problem. I now even conference call with no issues. Feel free to mail me if you need further info. Regards
