Don't include 'out-of-frame' objects in PDF export

Here's my issue - I need to create a screen friendly PDF instruction manual.
I have been provided with the PDF print version of the manual, which is 660mm x 90mm (it folds up, 11 pages, to 60x90)
I want to present the manual 2 pages at a time, so the resulting PDF will display nicely on screen & user can scroll down.
I create a document 120x90 with a frame containing the PDF - only showing 2 of the pages (the rest of the manual is out of frame)
If I export this to a new PDF it will include the entire manual out-of-frame, thus giving a 2MB file for what should be only 200K
If I repeat this for all pages I'll end up with a 10MB PDF.
How can I crop /  exclude out-of-frame artwork from the export?

I never really use Acrobat, so im not sure if it has the tools i need.
The artwork I have is one large single page document 660mm x 90mm, this folds concertina style to create an 11 page manual. So the artwork does not have any separately defined 'pages' as such - just one large sheet.
I opened in Acrobat & cropped the page down to only show 2 of the 'pages'. then saved the new PDF - it was exactly the same filesize as the original PDF even though it was 1/5th the physical dimension - so it seems acrobat has the same issues.
The solution for me is to open the PDF in illustrator & drag over the 'pages' into indesign.
However, the point of this question was to see if there is an option in indesign to crop out extraneous artwork so I dont have to do that.
Your post is helpful though, the article about overhead is exactly what i am experiencing. Dragging from Illustrator is my quickest solution it seems.

  • How to include a slug-type area on PDF export

Does anyone know how I can include a slug area (or something similar) on an AI file when I save as PDF?  I need to include a part number, revision number and date of the file for reference purposes.  I've tried searching and can't seem to find a solution.  Thanks in advance!
    Mel

To elaborate make your document artboard the correct size you need it so you can work properly.
Then place your slug as close as you feel you can then make another artboard encompassing the origina atboard plus the area the slug has been position.
That way you have the sim0ple choice of making the pdf of the larger one and then when you do not need the slug just select the document artboard.
Or if you include a bleed with trim marks then you can save with the bleed and trim mark settings and layout yur slug to fit in the area encomassed by the trim marks.
You can also use trim marks without a bleed so if you do not have bleeds you can still accomplish what you want.

  • How to print a message in the Window created out of a Frame Object

    Hello,
I created a class extended from Thread class
I want to print a message in Run method : in the Window created out of a Frame Object in the main function.
I used System.out.println function, but nothing is printed on the screen
what other function can I use, without using Drawstring method in ie public void paint(Graphics g)Thank you

Erm...I don't know whether this is acceptable or not, but...if you want to create out of the main frame, why dun u you create a new frame with a button there, so it seems like a pop-up windows (***or like JOptionPane.showMessageDialog)

  • Using Anchored Frame Object Attributes to "Store" Art Numbers

    Good Morning, Everyone,
I have been using FrameMaker for over 15 years now, and as a tech writer who has inherited LOTS of graphics-intensive documents from previous writers, I have often struggled with identifying source files for embedded graphics. (I prefer to embed graphics in my documents, but that is a topic for another discussion ;-) ) More often than not, graphics have been named something that made sense to the original author at the time, but is nothing more than cryptic code to me now.
As a result, over the years, I have developed a personal "system" for naming my graphics files that identifies/names each file as the document number in which it resides followed by a sequential number. For example, if a document number is UM345-123, then my graphic files are named UM345-123_0001, UM345-123_0002, etc.  I then include a small (hopefully unobtrusive) 8-point text frame in the lower right-hand corner of the graphics frame that indicates the file name for the base graphic. I create an Art# tag that includes an autonumber for the Document Number (e.g., UM345-123,) which is then inserted into the text frame, and I assign the next sequential number to the graphic/file. The advantage to this is that in the future, files are easily identified if someone wants to use my graphic and all they have is a pdf copy of my document - anyone can easily locate the source file and either update it or forward it on.
One disadvantage is that in some situations, fitting the text frame/graphic number into the graphic frame is tough - to the point where it detracts from the graphic itself.  I am now wondering if it is possible to somehow utilize Anchored Frame Attributes to store the graphic number in these situations. Perhaps create a new attribute specifically for the Art Number? Has anyone else done something similar?
Thanks in advance for your help!!!
    Nancy

    > ... include a small (hopefully unobtrusive) 8-point text frame in the lower right-hand corner of the graphics frame ...
We do this as well, either as a text frame, or in the caption table below, with the reference ID set to a non-obnoxious gray. The main issue with doing this is that the ID is hand-typed, and can easily be incorrect, but usually only when it matters .
We also have other metadata, that the end users don't see, such as file type, scale and rotation, and this is text with a color set, at rendering, to Invisible by Color Views.
What you really want, however, is metadata that can't be incorrect, and shows the complete provenance of the object. For this, use text in the original art that is several mm above the art/table/chart extents. Clip it after import with the top edge of the anchoring frame or graphic frame within. End users never see it, but future document stewards can either slide the image down, or pull the frame edge up, to reveal the trail of crumbs leading back to the object's place of birth.
Caution: that out-of-frame metadata may survive into the PDF, depending on Distiller vintage and settings. You can remove it via Examine Document in Acrobat Pro.

  • Trying to create a wire frame object in 3D

Hi Folks, I am trying to create two objects: something called a gravity well and a wire framed globe in Photoshop 3D CS6. The examples are here: http://www.carreonphotography.com/3D/   #'s 1/5 and 5/5. I tried using a gradient map to create a depth map but the form is not editable if I understand PS 3D correctly. Only the scale, light, texture and perspective.
The surace of the gravity well needs to be a  white wire grid pattern over black with. The globe is basically the same. Can this be accomplished on Photoshop CS6 3D or do I have to farm this out to a 3D guy.
I have included samples of my objectives: #1 and 5 plus screen shots of what I ended up with, the form of which was uneditable based on what I understand. I also don't know how I would create the wire frame once I have the form.
I deally I would use the final images as png's on a 2D suface which I would later wrap onto a 3D surface.
    Any thoughs please!
    Thanks folks in advance:

How do I eliminate the artifacts along the edges of the frontal vertices of the well?
I think I know what you're referring to, but to make sure we're on the same page, repost the image with red ellipses/boxes surrounding the artifacts which trouble you.
As recommended by someone on the forums I started with a 32 bit grid map but knocked it down to 16 bits to speed up the 3d engine. Was my thinking correct? Can I use a gray scale image instead so PS CS6 doesn't get bogged down?
I used an 8-bit grayscale image for the grid and I rendered to 16-bit output (i.e. my main document's mode was 16-bit RGB). Rendering to floating point 32-bit output images can have advantages when using illuminants with realistic intensities but it usually requires subsequent tone mapping. I don't think your illustrative image will benefit from that, so I recommend you render to 16-bit.
There is absolutely no reason to use a 32-bit per channel image for that grid opacity texture. The grid has only black and white and is entirely horizontal and vertical lines, so you should be able to get away with a 1-bit per pixel texture, but use an 8-bit grayscale texture because I know that works in Photoshop
The output of the final document is 5000 X 5000 pixels but the gravity well is but small element in the background so I have made it 3000 by 3000. If the 3D engjine is using vector math to draw the lines, does size even matter?
The polygons making up the surfaces that are rendered will be calculated with vector maths but the size of the opacity texture should be large enough to prevent it becoming fuzzy due to upscaling to cover the surface area when rendering an image of a given size. Remember that a texture can be tiled (up to ten times in each direction) to repeat over a surface (using the UV Mapping Properties), so your grid doesn't need to define every "square" of the well.
Can't figure out how to move a point light from the bottom so it matches the second example. I like the way this artist handles transparency in his grid. Can you tell me now to move the light. The interface is different than in CS5 tutorials.
Click on a point light with the Move Tool to activate its manipulator then drag on the heads of the red, green and blue arrows. You might want to switch view to each of the top, right and front views to aid alignment. You can store the current 3D view before changing then return to it. There's a secondary view window that can be enabled, which would aid with alignment, but it doesn't show lights for some reason.
Is it possible to select all the shape layers containing horizontal lines and change their width simultaneously? I am doing so one layer at a time.
Do you mean to scale the width of the lines without scaling their offset?

  • Out of line object 'DataSource' -- but when re-saving table properties, no issues

I've got a PowerPivot workbook that's connecting to an Oracle database, then calculating a few measures. When I "test the connnection" in PowerPivot, it's fine. When I go to "Table Properties" and re-save, it seems to pull the dataset
fine. But refreshing within Excel gives me,
We couldn't refresh the table 'AthleticGPABlahBlah' from the connection 'Student_PLSQLBlahBlah'. Here's the error message we got: Out of line object 'DataSource', referring to ID(s) 'c6427542-blahblah', has been specified but not used. The following
    system error occurred: Unspecified error
My data types seem right, and I don't have any big dates. Is my workbook just corrupt? I'd love to not re-do it, so any tips to getting this fixed would be great!

    Hi Hensen,
You mentioned that you don't have any big dates but do you have any dates that are too small? What happens when you use the Table Properties to restrict dates to all be on or after 1/1/2000, for example?

  • How to create the Frame object with API in 6i?

do i create an item using d2fitmcr_Create, and then set the type or style to frame? or is it a graphics item that i have to create using a different function? ive tried various combinations with no luck.

Frame is a type of graphic d2fgracr_Create() (d2fgra.h) then set the type as required using d2fgras_graphics_typ():

  • Iteration - how to find out if an object is a button?

Using "for (var i in _parent) {}" I'd like to find out all

SOLVED - of course I have to use _parent

  • Stablize video with out of frame anchors?

I have some clips I want to stablize. However, no high-contrast object stays in frame throughout the clip.
What do you do in this case? Do you break the clip into two and stablize each one individually, then match them up manually?
Or is it possible to define multiple anchor points so that when one goes out of frame, another one can be use to continue the analysis?

If the shots line up spacially, you might be able to stitch them together in a pseudo-panorama and then track that. Of course also look into the techniques explained in the video. Beyond that such shots may require some heavier weapons and involve using 3D tracking/ matchmoving software like PFTrack that also can use their sophisticated algorithms to do these "simple" 2D tasks, but whether you really wanna spend 3500 GBP is another question...

You can transfer your purchases before you start, to make sure all apps and purchased media is part of your iTunes library on your computer.
All other data which is part of the backup will be missing, see more details about the content here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766
This article explains how to transfer your other data: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4137
If you have corrupt data inside the backup, this is the only way to find out. If the behavior does not change, you can use the backup again to get all your settings back.

  • Safari, and world leaks from web frame objects

    hello,
I'm using tiger 10.4.10, and safari 2.0.4. Whenever I close out my windows in Safari, I get an error message saying that a world leak has been identified and that the cause as I understand it, is from 2 web frame objects. After searching these forums, I haven't found an answer, but have come to understand possibly 2 factors:
    1) yes, check for world leaks in safari is "checked"
    2) in safari 3, there is no such thing as world leaks?
My question is this, I've never had a security breach before on my mac, how do I get rid of these world leaks? If I am to download safari 3, will it take care of my problem?

Hi Jmds and welcome to the forums!
the cause as I understand it, is from 2 web frame objects
I think that is correct. Safari 3 uses a different webcore which also affects Mail, iTunes and other applications. This why it is vital that you do NOT delete Safari 2 before installing it. The Safari 3 installer does this for you, and in such a way that the UNinstaller that comes with the download will revert you to Safari 2 if you decide to change your mind.
In safari 3, there is no such thing as world leaks?
Merely answering 'No' would probably be tempting fate, but put it this way: since using Safari 3 I have not experienced any (not one) world leak.
how do I get rid of these world leaks?
All you need to do is close Safari, and they are gone.
If I am to download safari 3, will it take care of my problem?
Well, it worked for me! I still have 'check for world leaks' checked in the debug menu, but have never seen one in Safari 3.
I word this with care, but Apple have said that a final non-beta version of Safari 3 for Tiger will be forthcoming. Now that Leopard has been released, I would think that Safari 3 for Tiger is due in the near future (just my opinion, hosts!), in which case you might as well wait for this final version.
Safari 3.0.3 beta has been much faster and more stable (for me) that Safari 2 ever was. Hopefully that will be your experience as well.

I am trying to edit my music list and then sync it to my iPhone 5 so I don't run out of storage space. However, I see the check marks on the iTunes library but am unable to uncheck them? How do I manually edit what will be synced to my phone? (the check marks are not bolded, does this mean they are not in my library but only on my phone?)

You uncheck the music in your iTunes library on your computer and along with sync only checked songs and videos selected under the Summary selection for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes, only checked songs in your iTunes library will be transferred to your iPhone or remain on your iPhone and the unchecked songs in your iTunes library that are currently on your iPhone will be removed when syncing.
Or make use of iTunes playlists and choose selected playlists, albums, artists under the Music selection for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes and select the playlists below that you want transferred to your iPhone.
