Don't know where to report this

I have had a nightmare of a time dealing with continuing problems on my almost new MBPro running 10.5.2. I've been to the Genius Bar more than a few times and my Mac has been in their shop twice now. Apparently, the WD MyBook backup software once loaded onto the machine was not getting removed by most typical methods - everything from archive and reinstall to removing instances of the software from every conceivable folder the Genius bar could think of (and the Apple TS could come up with). They returned my computer to me after also finding that I had a defective hard drive and cable and told me they would guide me as to what to do next to reinstall my operating system altogether and load stuff in one thing at a time to make sure that the WD software did not get reinstalled again onto the computer. Unfortunately, I don't know what happened but when I came in to pick up the machine per their call to me, they told me there was nobody who could or would go over the subsequent instructions I would need to get up and running.
I called AppleCare and they said to call me back after I had re-installed the OS from the original disks and to call them back after that and they'd walk me through the remaining steps of loading stuff in one by one. So I called them back. They were closed - nobody available to help.
I'm just not sure what to do next. I have now been unable to work for almost a month with all of the problems I've had with this computer which I brought brand new in February. Honestly, I just don't know what to do next here. I wish I had 24 hours a day to deal with this but having already lost production time, I can't afford to spend more time waiting for Apple to address this.
What to do to get this machine up and running? How does one load stuff in "one thing at a time"?

I have the disks that came with my MBPro and they are 10.5.x. I'm at the "Do You Already Own A Mac" screen since they gal on the phone said to call her when I got to that point. But of course, she has gone home for the day! So - I dun't know WHAT quite to do next?
I have TM backup of my entire MBPro internal hard drive so that's not a problem. But this was a brand new hard disk they said they put into my Mac to replace the original one which they said was f'd up!
I am so wiped out from all of this Macintosh nonsense. It took me an entire weekend to download the updates to all of Apple's software last time they had me do this. The amount of time I've been down is just unbelievable to me given my history with Apple being such a solid, easy to use, and great system.
Can a 3rd party backup software like WD's really cause this much havoc???

    No problem with Safari, but I also use Firefox and successfully for 2 years to do my portfolio on Yahoo Finance. Yesterday, when I clicked on my portfolio in Firefox, it suddenly started downloading -DARTIframe.html (it appears in MacSource)- . I could not find out what it is. Everytime I clicked on something in my portfolio, it would download to the desktop again, over and over. I can't find out what it is, but when I Googled it, I got a discussion group and someone had the same problem (started the same day), but I am not a member and could not log in. I don't know how to stop this. Applecare was no help. I have deleted the portfolio and put it in again, but the download still occurs. This does not happen in Safari. Does anyone have any ideas as to what to do. I cannot get in touch with Firefox. Thanks for any help. Gerry

    It would appear that DARTIframe is part of DoubleClick's ad serving technology -- it serves media through an iframe on a web page. The question is also being asked on Yahoo! Answers, so I'll wager the problem is not Mac-only.
    By any chance are you using the AdBlock extension in Firefox? If so, try turning that extension off, restart Firefox, and see if you still have the problem at Y! Finance.

    The FAQ is correct, but as long as the MAS thinks that the app is on your Mac it has no reason to allow an install.
    Try this;
    Trash the following folders and files; (~ is your Home folder)
         ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.appstore
         ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.storeagent
         ~/Library/Cookies/com.apple.appstore.plist
         ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.appstore.plist
         ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.storeagent.plist
    Restart.

    I have what should be an easy activity but I'm spending more time than it's worth.  Below is a clipping from a photo of a stained glass window.  The unseen figure above the text is Aristotle and presumably the clipping is a quote of his words in ancient Greek.  Can anyone provide an English translation for me?
    By the way, my initial frustration is in loading the Greek alphabet onto my iMac.  The selection menu lists the languages in the actual languages.  The word "Greek" is not there and I don't know how to spell "Greek" in Greek!

    Thanks.  I was in the wrong menu.  I went to Preferences > Language & Text > Language
    I should have gone to Preferences > Laguage & Text > Input Sources
    In any event, my problem now is the difference between modern Greek and ancient Greek.  It's either that or, more likely, the text is not a quote but, instead, an almost random collection of Greek letters.  The beginning of the statement refers to the human soul and energy but the kicker is the last two words.  I can't find a meaning anywhere, including one dictionary for ancient Greek.  I tried Google Translate and others on the web as well as a local translator on my Mac.

    It'x close but I don't think that I've got the cigar yet.  As near as I can determine, the beginning refers to the human soul but the words at the end don't translate to anything.  I'm beginning to suspect that the text is not intended to be real and is merely a random collection of Greek letters!
    I translated your hunch into Greek and the Greek words in the second half don't even come close to what's on the window.
    I do appreciate the effort, though.

    Please forgive me, I do not know what forum to ask this question in. I downloaded the free windows 8.1 update a while back, and have decided that I do not like it. So I tried "Refresh your PC settings without afflicting your files". It restarted
    itself, as it should, but when it boots back up, it gives me error 0xc0000001, saying I am missing \windows\system32\winload.efi, or something along those lines. The thing is, I looked into that folder and it was there. How can I fix this?

  • I don't know where to post this, just like BT don'...

    Been with BT for 6 years now, recently noticed my bills were getting much more expensive as time went on although I don't use the phone, HD Films or the Music Pack BT Vision extra (which was free on sign-up)
    I finally managed to contact BT (via CS email) to cancel the Music Pack at £7.20/mnth or so, but was peeved to see you cannot simply cancel or change subscribtions online via BT.com
    Thats not a massive problem however
    What upsets me is I got a new BT contract (just because I cancelled a part of BT Vision) and had to create another online BT account, 2 days later I can now use my old account.
    As I am a green person, I use paper billing but now have two logins with two account numbers, I hope I do not get two bills?
    Annoylingly the final part is I now get email marketing spam from BT ([email protected]) trying to sell me laptops, when you click 'Unsubscribe' it simply takes you to the standard 'How may we help you page' with no clear option of opting out of marketing emails
    This frustrates me so much, I have over 7 business email accounts that I look after with precison, the last thing I need is another Spammer that you cannot delete?
    more worringly is I get billed £3.70/mnth for not using my phone, BT say on the eBill, use up your minutes to reduce this charge? I dont always want to ring someone BT? Why charge me for not using you?

  • Palm Desktop ATE MY CALENDAR AGAIN!!!! I CAN'T Connect to ANY Of my DATA! And I DON'T KNOW WHERE TO POST THIS

    While opening palm desktop I got the dreaded "Error failed to open Date Book database" and my ENTIRE datebook was EATEN AGAIN...
    Shame on me for depending on this flakey software to keep track of my entire G*dd*mn life but there it is...
    I WAS still running 4.2.  I've tried uninstalling 4.2 and installing 6.2 under the (obviously) mistaken assumption that there's a way to fix the corrupt datebook database in 6.2. 
    Now I can't even access any of my other data like ALL OF MY ADDRESSES AND TELEPHONE NUMBERS, ALSO (SILLY ME!!!) entrusted to this flakey POS software....
    because now I cannot find any way in the menus or imports or WHATEVER in 6.2 to connect the program to my old profile...
    Does anyone know of any 3rd party software that can retrieve my data from the old databases?  (That would be my first preference -- GET MY INFORMATION and then deep six this sucker!)...
    Is there a CLUE anywhere in any documentation about how I can reconnect my GOOD data with 6.2???

    This happens probably because of 2 existing palm desktop data. Older version of PDS will store the user data under c:\Program Files\Palm or Palm One on the other hand PDS 6.2 will store the User Data under My Documents\PalmOS Desktop.
    Given that you have all the updated data on your phone, Uninstall Palm Desktop , and make sure you remove all other folders for previous PDS. (rename palm folders under program files and palm os desktop under mydocuments). Once everything has been removed, install fresh installation of PDS, sync your device and just make sure you set the sync method to Handheld overwrites Desktop.

    I have two accounts here.
    I created one when I had a PC and an ipod
    When I received my macbook I created another account.
    Both accounts use the same email address
    If I log in with my one username I am shown questions to do with ipods (that's when I had the PC and downloaded itunes for the ipod)
    . If I log in with my email address I am shown questions I've posted about my macbook since receiving it at christmas.
    Both accounts use the same email address and password and yet neither account shows both acct questions.
    Is there any way to merge both accounts together.
    I know this is the wrong forum for this question, but can't find any link to email apple directly and get this fixed up.
    Can anyone help?

    Unfortunately there is no way to merge the accounts. Just choose one that you prefer to use for everything.

  • Ok... I don't know where to post this but... *UPDATED*

    Tonight, suddenly out of nowhere, both Windows Media Player, and RealPlayer both stopped playing sound. For everything. from new things I download to videos in both formats I've had on my computer for a long time, and up to today worked just fine. The reason I'm posting here is because it's happening to both programs, and I'd think their audio codecs are seemingly unrelated. So it may have something to do with the OS. QuickTime, iTunes, system sounds, mplayer, all fine. And I never installed anything or changed anything at all before they stopped playing sound. I tried restarting my computer, repairing permissions, deleting the .plists, uninstalling the programs and deleting the plists, then repairing permissions, restarting, redownloading both programs and reinstalling them... to no avail. This just seems completely random. Only WMP gives an error. "This file may not play correctly because it was compressed by using a codec that is not supported." I never had any plugins or extra codecs or anything for either of those players. Has anyone experienced anything like this?
    UPDATE It gets worse... turns out that sound won't play on flash websites in Safari either now. And I can no longer preview a song I am downloading using Acquisition. It's almost like OSX is not letting these programs use sound....

    The Adobe Photoshop forums are down for an upgrade so I don't know where to post this but I need help. Since yesterday Photoshop CS4 has been showing banding in my soft brushes and gradients, it mostly comes up when I am using a dark color on another dark color or on similar colors together but it has been working fine for a very long time until yesterday where it just happened randomly. I have tried restarting, resetting preferences, installing cs3 and seeing if it happened there, and using just about every color profile I could think that would make a difference, and none of them work. Please someone help I need this fixed asap.

    It's in your Keychain on the computer you usually use to connect to your network - the "kind" will be "AirPort Network Password".
    Your Keychain can be opened by using the Keychain Access program. It is in your Utilities Folder.
    Open Keychain Access, and type airport in the search field. You will see a number of entries. Choose the one with the name of your wireless network, open it, and check the box next to "show password". Before it reveals itself you will be asked for your login password - the one you use to log in to your MacBook.
    The network password will appear in the box.
    Quit Keychain Access.

    The 4G/iOS 6 does not have an Activation Lock. That started with iOS 7.
    Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.
    If recovery mode does not work try DFU mode.
