You know my reluctance to upgrade from 4.9 (everything works...why chance it?). Well, I'm trying to debug a friend's brand new shuffle (green-light-stuck-on-and-doesn't-play-bug). Guess what? I need iTunes 5.0 or later to see the shuffle. Noooooo!
Answer: go fix it at her house on her PC.

So, I deleted em, booted the computer in safe mode, intalled the latest QT first, and then installed itunes. seemed to work out. I'll use the phrase "quirky".
yeah, the QT component of the newer itunes installer bundles is more fragile on the install than the standalone QT. it gets caught by antivirus/antispyware interactions in particular, but other interactions cause pain as well.
while we're on the subject of antivirus and antispyware, have you ever tried an experimental launch of itunes while watching the process tab when you've disabled your antivirus and antispyware first, to see what your CPU usage is like then?
we've been getting some reports of strange launch and shutdown problems (sometimes associated with 100% CPU usage) that are (apparently) associated with security software interfering with itunes reading/writing the .itl and generating the .xml library files.
while i've got you here, i figure i can just keep throwing recent potentially-relevant observations at you as i think of them ... tell me to go away if it gets irritating.

During the EHP5 Upgrade, we found some of the screens of infotypes got deleted. Those screen numbers are <9000. Any guessess on why these screens deleted? Is it becoz of SAP reserved namespace or any other reason? What should be best solution to make sure that these screens are not deleted while upgrade?

Carefully follow steps 1-9 outlined by wjosten in this post: https://discussions.apple.com/message/13356770#13356770. This will not, however, avoid wiping any non-purchased media from your phone (ripped CDs, etc.) as this is only synced one way: from your computer to your phone. You will have to either rebuild your iTunes library with this content and sync again to restore it to your phone, or purchase 3rd party software to copy it from your phone to iTunes prior to syncing (such as Touch Copy).

Five month ago I was forced to buy by one new hard drive and extent the memory, because I had to make the upgrade (and pay) to install the new Lion operation system. Four days ago the Mother-board fails. To change it will cost a fortune. What should I do or expect from Apple to solve this problem? I am very disappointed because my trust on Apple was destroyed.

I am not sure why you are upset with Apple. Electronics equipment does fail. If the product is out of warranty or you do not have AppleCare there's not much you can do with Apple. Apple will charge you for the repair. Suggest you look for a third party repair store since they are usually less expensive than Apple. Alternatively you can buy one for about $850US and install it yourself. Sorry, but there aren't many choices in this situation.

Classic to OsX offered some time for upgrading I didn't relize when I went to Lion I was going to have to make the sacrafices that I did. I can't use my old Australian version of Accounting Edge 5 anymore. This has posed a real problem for our small business. It was my fault for not checking befor I jumped but really liked what was on offer. Wasn't really ready to upgrade. I am also sad to say goodbye to my old favouriteprograham that got me out of a lot of trouble, Appleworks I will miss you. Goodbye Appleworks :-( Love Applle :-)

Looks like i'm about 3,000,000 posts too late now I've done some reading i'm informed to what I could have done and should have done and should not have done. I am impressed withe Lion, not being informed was a crime on my part, having said that I didn't need warning labels on the last few upgrades over the last few years so thought it might just be another walk in the park. Having a shop running on Mac and never needing a Techy over the last 12 years has been great. It takes a little digging to solve the puzzles we come accross but I have alway's enjoyed a good puzzle. It's the dawning of a new era, bring it on with Lion I'm sure we'll grow to love you too.

I've already purchased the apps and installed on my iMAC and Macbook Air.
After downloading Face Time I received the following mail;

This is probably a new precaution that Apple has taken to alert folks that something has occurred with their account that has not occurred before*, namely a Mac has downloaded something from their account that has not done so before. And as the notice says, if it was you doing so, then you may safely ignore the notice. Also, do not be alarmed, Apple refers to all downloads as purchases, even when they are free.
But if you are truly concerned about the notice then you can authorize the Mac with your iTunes account, which should be the same as your MAS account. Open iTunes on the older Mac and sign into your account. Then in the Store menu choose Authorize This Computer. Now this Mac is definitely associated with your account and can now play media that you purchase from the iTunes Store as well.
*My banks do the same thing when I pop up making a purchase with my bank cards somewhere in the world I have never made a purchase before. They call me and email me and want to know if it is indeed me using the card.

Trying to upgrade to 3.6.8, and it says I can't because I "don't have access to some of the items. What in the world does this mean, and what do I do?

Try this:
- uninstall your current version of Firefox (no data will be lost)
- delete it's Firefox install folder (not your profile folder)
- install the new version
That should circumvent this problem. If you can't delete your Firefox install folder, after having uninstalled it, maybe it's because some of the files are locked. Try rebooting the system. If that doesn't help, ask Apple for support.

It's XI not VI (roman numerals for eleven).
Probably not. It does depend to an extent on the volume licensing program that is in use. Some programs include update rights - that doesn't mean you can buy an upgrade, it means the program manager can get upgrades.
If you are one of those people who have a volume license "cut off" from your program manager e.g. after leaving a company, I think that is the end of the line.

If it is WEP, one of the problems is that the actual standard relies on a 10 character HEX key for 40bit WEP and a 26 character HEX key for 128bit WEP. In order to make things easier, vendors use certain algorithms to convert simple alphanumeric passwords (or passphrases) into HEX keys, thus enabling the use of simple easy to remember WEP password rather than lengthy HEX keys. The problem is that different vendors use different algorithms to generate the HEX key and therefore a ASCII password on an AEBS will be hashed differently on a non-Apple client and vice versa. You will see down near the bottom of the page that it is not upgradeable. Some laptops come with the processor soldered to the motherboard. Almost all laptop graphics are this way. The only way that you would be able to get a faster processor/better graphics for this laptop would be to purchase a brand new motherboard. You can do an Ebay search for 'HP G6 motherboard' to see what average prices are if you want to go this route.

There is a world of information in these forums if you use the search function near the top right of this page. Just type in NAS for example and you get many threads on the subject (marked with a green checkmark if it solved the question) another example would be Airport Exterme and sound system. Once you formulate your ideas better then specific questions can be addressed one at a time. You may find that a less expensive choice for a server might be a mac mini. First format the drive to OS X Extended (journaled) with ownership set to be ignored:
Next drag your iPhoto library from your Pictures folder to the EHD. When the copying is complete launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and in the window that comes up select the library on the EHD:
Check the file path under the window to make sure the correct library has been selected.
Once you've confirmed that the EHD library is working properly and has all of your photos you can delete the library in your Pictures folder.

What do you see instead of update on the apps you are concerned about?
When updating to iOS 7 auto update for apps will be turned on. When an app has an update available your iPad will download and install the update with no input from you. Apps that have been updated by this automatic process but which have not yet been opened will show a blue dot before their name.
A record of updated apps is kept for your convenience. You can see this record by using the App Store app and select Updates, the right most choice in the bottom row.
