Don't see TM backup disk in migration assistant

And it's in the finder - any suggestions?

Is it flashing (blinking) amber, or solid (continuous) amber?  If it's flashing amber, not solid amber, it may be working properly...
The flashing means Do Not Disconnect.  Solid color (whether red, orange, or green) means OK to Disconnect.
The color indicates battery charge status.  Red (very low) - Orange (not full) - Green (full or nearly full)
When flashing, it is never green, even if the battery is fully charged.
If the shuffle is set to Manually manage music (or Enable disk use), which means you drag songs to the shuffle in iTunes to load it, the shuffle's "disk" is continuously mounted when connected.  Therefore, the light always flashes ("Do Not Disconnect") because you need to eject the shuffle before physically disconnecting it.
If the shuffle is set to automatically sync, then the shuffle's disk is only mounted when syncing; at other times, iTunes keeps it unmounted.  Therefore, the light is solid (only flashes when syncing) and turns green when battery is fully charged, and you can disconnect the shuffle without the need to first eject it.
Immediately after a Restore, the default setting is automatic syncing.  The light turns solid green when battery is fully charged.  If you then set it to Manually manage music to load the shuffle with songs, the light will no longer turn green when battery is fully changed (it will continue to flash orange).

  • Time Machine backup/restoring through migration assistant/issues

    Hi.
I would like to restore a backup from an external hard drive to my macbook pro.
Not beeing aware of the procedure, I skipped the "set-up assistant" phase where you're proposed the option of transferring informations from an another Mac or from a Time Machine, etc...
My backup files from my previous TimeMachine are on an external hard drive, plugged via USB to my MacBookPro. After looking for the right procedure, I tried to restore my backup through the Migration Assistant.
But the Migration Assistant won't find my external hard drive. Even though, weirdly, I can see and naviguate it via the Finder.
Is there something I should've done? Am I missing something?
I would really like some help on this one.
    Thanks.

Quit Notes and temporarily disable iCloud synchronization, if applicable.
Triple-click the line below to select it:
    ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.Notes
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
    Services ▹ Reveal
from the contextual menu. A Finder window should open with an item selected. Enter Time Machine and restore the selected item.

  • Mavericks don't see my backup in Time Capsule

    Good morning guys .
My Mac was too slow because of many updates coming , and decided to do a " clean" installation of Mavericks .
Before , I did as the usual backup on Time Capsule .
After installation , I try to restore the backup and migration wizard by surprise: the Mavericks don't see the backed up .
Note : I can access the Time Machine , in Finder , it mounts , I see that everything is there , but the backup is not read by the migration wizard .
I did several things I saw on the forum and the closest I came was to create a new backup , and then try to restore again the migration wizard or the system restore, this reads like the Mavericks backup but surprise, only backup that I created or backups made in 2012 ( before the system can be upgraded to the Mavericks ) . All backups made in 2013 he did not read , it is as if there were .
Has anyone experienced this and can help me ?
    My mac : Macbook Pro 13 Late 2011 2.8 Ghz Intel Core i7 , 8GB Ram
    Regards and thank you .

If you don't see any Movies underneath the "Sync Movies" portion, a good step to try is resetting sync history.

  • Windows don't see the aplications disk

    Hello,
I've installed windows 7 ultimate on my macbook pro, but I want to install the applications disk, so windows have al the drivers and i can use macosx again. Now will the apple only boot to windows.
I put the applications disk in the apple's disk drive, and windows do'nt see him. He see a empty disk. I've tried it on another pc's (windows xp) and they also don't see it, also a empty disk.
another apple see the disk well, but I want to make a copy of the windows file's to a USB drive, but I don't know how it's works on apple, apple show only the apple file's.(applications install for apple, but I don't know how to see the windows instalation file's to make a copy of it.)
Can you help me, I want to use my Macbook pro with mac osx.
    Thanks.
I'm sorry for my bad english.

    Hi Mike,
the Application Disc is Mac OSX only. There is nothing on it that can be installed in WIndows.
The BootCamp Drivers are on the Mac OSX Install DVD.
This disc is a "hybrid-disc" which contains a Mac OSX part and a WIndows part.
The Windows part is indeed only viewable while in Windows and does not show up while in OSX.
    Regards
    Stefan

  • How to access Time Machine backups after using migration assistant?

Can someone please help me with a TM issue.
My HD died so I fitted a new one.  I figured that I would do a clean install rather than use TM to bring across a whole bunch of 5 year old junk and Aps that all broke after the Leopard -Snow Leopard -Lion -Mountain Lion upgrades.
Installed 10.8.2 Mountain Lion, no issues.  Then used TM to drag and drop all the Applications I actually wanted, still good.  Then used Migration assistant to bring in the remainder of the settings, documents, mail etc.  For some reason you cannot migrate to the current default user so you have to create a new user profile which I did.  New profile was great so I deleted the other profile created at install that was pretty much blank.
At this stage everything looks awesome but I noticed a video clip was missing in a Final Cut project so I went back into TM to retrieve it.  Now, all the documents in my old user profile in TM have a little no entry symbol on them and I do not have permission to look at those files.
It looks as though I am now being treated as someone else on a different machine and no doubt TM will continue to work from this point on but how do I tell it that there is just one user on this machine and I want access to all the historic backups too?
Any advice will be gratefully received.

Many thanks for your response Mende,
I am trying to specifically NOT do a full TM restore because I have some issues with some programs that I cannot delete.  I wanted a fresh start but from what I understand the TM will bring back everything as it was, including all the corrupt system files.  Fixing the TM permissions would be the preferable option.
(I attempted to make a windows partition on my system once, thinking it would make some sort of clever fake-windows desktop supported by Mac coding. It actually wanted me to do a full windows 7 install on the partition with windows install disks so I cancelled the process.  Because it was a partial install I have not been able to uninstall the modifications and my system was crashing regularly due to some sort of stray code).
Just out of interest, if your OSX install is perfectly good, will TM use that or will it still take your OSX from the TM backup?
Apart from that one stray file, my system is now super clean and faster than ever... but maybe there are still some things missing that I haven't noticed yet.

  • New leopard macbook won't see panther macbook os in migration assistant

I just got a brand new MacBook (leopard) but when i try to use migration assistant, i get as far as it waiting for target (MacBook with OS 10.4.11) to restart, which it does with the firewire symbol, but then it tells me i don't have any versions of OS X on there! I have tried a number of times! Any advice?

First off, your naming conventions already put to doubt what you have.
    10.4.11 is Tiger, not Panther.
Are you sure the machine you are putting into Target Mode is a MacBook?
If it says Powerbook or iBook on it, don't use it for Migration Assistent
transfer, and instead use this article:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=435350
If it is indeed a MacBook, make sure you Target Disk Mode is set when nothing except power is connected to the MacBook. Target Disk Mode initiation frequently does not work when other cables are connected to the computer.

This may not be a TimeMachine problem at all but something else.

  • Migration assistant doesn't "see" Time Machine disk

Just got a new logic board, and they wiped the hard drive.  My Time Machine disk mounts, and I can see the files.  However, migration assistant doesn't list it as a source.  (Yes it's formatted Mac OS Extended [Journaled])
Time Machine recognizes it and wants to use it as a new backup disk, but it doesn't want to show me anything from the old back up. I didn't do a new backup of the "new" computer.  I don't back up applications just users.

Just back home from a follow-up visit to the Genius Bar on this migration issue (from MacBook Air to new MacBook Pro).
Previous efforts to migrate had taken endless hours and seemed to hang at the 20-mins-remaining mark.
At the store, even after we manually turned off WiFi before connecting the Thunderbolt cable, Migration Assistant seemed to turn WiFi back on and start the migration over WiFi.
In the end, we used the Air (source) in Target Disk mode, which forced the computers to use the Thunderbolt cable.  Migration took a little over half an hour, as opposed to 12 hours or more that Migration Assistant was saying earlier when apparently trying to use WiFi.

  • Migration Assistant Does Not See Attached External Disk

I just purchased a MacBook Air to replace an aging MacBook Pro.  Both are running the latest Mountain Lion (10.8.3).  I want to move my files from the MBP to the MBA using Migration Assistant.  I first tried doing this over wi-fi, but when I learned it would take more than 99 hours, I chose to cancel the operation.
So I connected a new Seagate HD to the MBP and configured Time Machine to back up to it.  I let Time Machine run all day, creating hourly updates after the initial backup.  I then disconnected the drive, attached it to the MBA and rebooted.  I ran Migration Assistant and chose to migrate from a Time Machine backup.  However, Migration Assistant does not see the disk.  Yet the disk is mounted on the desktop, I can read and write to it, and I can see the Time Machine backups.  Only Migration Assistant seems unable to recognize the disk.
This isn't the first time I've had problems with MA (see my posting history).  When it works, it's terrific - my new computer has all the settings and preferences as the old.  My applications are all registered and operational.  So I'm very frustrated that I can't get it to work with my new MBA.  It really does diminish the experience of getting a new computer.  That, plus I don't want to spend days and weeks moving things over manually, re-installing, etc.
C'mon, Apple.  Why is Migration Assistant so difficult?  I'd chalk it up to user error, but this many times?

So, finally after fourten hours of unattended "migration," I let it continue overnight and in the morning found that the time remaining had not moved a minute.  I canceled MA and found that not one iota of data had transferred.
As far as I'm concerned, Migration Assistant ranks lower on the Apple success list than Open Doc, Newton, Pink and Taligent.
Now I have to manually install software I want to use on the MBA, apply licenses, and all the other stuff I would expect from Windows.
    NOT happy.

  • I can't successfully migrate an account from my backup disk.

My mac's hard disk broke down. Therefore, I went to the apple store and they gave me a new hard disk. Then, I went home and tried to migrate all of my previous account's data onto my new hard disk using migration assistant.. One account succeeded, but the other account failed.
It seems that all of the files on that account don't give me permission to view it. I have never changed the permission settings on that account, so can anyone please help me?

I understand its not iCloud that its a symbol im just not explaining myself very well. But that symbol doesn't really matter. What matters is I keep downloading or I should say restoring the same files because it keep coming back with the same 1 next to it letting me know I still had the bonus pool in the game and I'm trying to start completely from the beginning with the app. I have talked with the developer and they can't seem to figure out what the problem is either. They told me to do all the same things Ive been told here and it just won't load. I dont know if there is an update for it but the app store doesnt show one and yes the install always complete. The app doesn't crash because it won't load. It didn't crash when I played it last either. When I went back to open it it just wouldn't load. The blueshell logo comes up then it goes back to the normal screen. I just feel like I keep restoring this app instead of downloading it fresh. And i deleted it from the backup or so it says. The reason I believe that is restoring it is because the app logo I have is black red and gold and the new app logo for this game is gold and black but that one never shows up in the new download. I have friends with this app and it has never done that before to them. But I don't understand why this app can't be somehow erased completely from the history if I want it to be. That's what make me believe its keeping some small .exe file along with it.

  • Problems with Migration Assistant seeing external harddrive

Hello all and thanks in advance for any advice!
We've recently had a macbook pro hard drive die and had to send it off to have the data recovered (no time machine backup).  I've installed the new harddrive and set up the operating system and so we now have a functioning mac - but I'm having trouble migrating data from the recovery hard drive.
The company have sent us the data on an external USB 3.0 disk - browsing through it the majority of data seems fine, but when I connect to Migration Assistant it can't find it.  I select "transfer from mac, pc, TM backup or other startup disk", click continue and then I just get the spinning icon and "looking for source"
I'm guessing that it's not formatted as a startup disk which Migration Assistant would need to be able to 'see' it?
Or is it because I'm connecting with USB and not thunderbolt?  (in the apple 'instructions' it says to connect with thunderbolt)
Assuming it's the first problem - is there a way of re-formatting it to get the assistant to see it?
Could I create a TM backup from the machine as is and then add data into it?   Although the two are on different OS so maybe this wouldn't work?
    Please help!!
    Thanks
    Sophie

Thanks - Just tried that and it did find something to repair.
But still not recognised in Migration Assistant.
I've done a TM backup on another external disk and the assistant sees that - but that's no good because it only contains what's already on the computer!
TBH it's just a couple of applications I want to migrate over, because it will be easier than trying to get the codes again - is there another way??
    Thanks

  • Can't access old backups after reinstalling Lion and restoring with Migration Assistant

Scenario: App Store developed a random, repetitive, failure to update certain apps.  After trying two different solutions which only worked for a couple of weeks (including archive uninstall)  Apple Support and I decided to go the full hog and do a full Lion reinstall.  Did a full final backup with TM and proceded to reinstall from the recovery partition.  All went well.  I gave my new account the same name as my old original one (and this might be the root of the glitch I will describe).  When Lion was working again I used Migration Assistant to recover all the users, applications, and information.
As my new main account and my old one (coming from Mig Assist) had the same name, MigAssist asked if I wanted to merge them.  I said "yes".  All fine.  Everything was apparently there.
Later that day I tried to access my bank and discovered that my 1Password db was an old version.  I went to TM to retrieve the one from my pre-reinstall backup.  As I had mapped my mac back to the sparsebunddle file in TC it seemed I had access to all my files going back 1.5 years.  It showed my oldest backup as Sep 2010 and 700 gb used.  All seemed normal.
Unfortunately, the purple bars before the moment of reinstall are all faded and I can't retrieve any information from them. Nothing before that moment is available, not from the Finder or from withing any other application.
My new merged main user appears as "carlos 1"  when it should have been just "carlos".
Do you guys have any advice that could help me?  Thank you in advance.
    My TC is a 1TB 2009 one.

No, there is no "merge" option:
You can rename or replace, not merge.

You have two separate accounts now.
See Problems after using Migration Assistant for an explanation of what's happened (the blue and pink boxes) and a possible fix in the tan box -- but that won't work if you've done any backups since using Migration Assistant.
If you have done backups, your best bet is to do a full system restore, selecting the last backup from before you did the Migration.  See Time Machine - Frequently Asked Question #14.
