Don't understand "Episode #". Please explain
On the iTunes window, there is a column you can show that says..."Episode #". I don't understand what this is for and how you use it. I added it cuz it would've been convenient to keep track of the Old-Time-Radio shows I have copied into iTunes, but I can't figure out how you can edit it (there is no place for it in the "info" window).
So...I figured it was only for Podcasts and TV shows. But no. That column doesn't show up in the Podcast window (it's not evn a possible choice).
So what the heck is it for and how do you use it?

So...I guess the TV shows show up in the reg. "Library" window then? (I have never downloaded a TV show fr. the store).
Cuz I like I said...the "Episode #" thing isn't even an avail. option on the podcast window (and I would've thought that that would be a very useful thing for podcast--considering that so many of them are "episodic".

Surely all phones should be exactly the same shouldn't they? It's exactly the same software going onto everyone's phone so, assuming there is no third party software interfering with the Apple processes, they should all behave the same way.

Assuming no defect, the hardware would be the same, yes, other than the size of the flash RAM. But some devices do indeed have hardware defects, some obvious and some very subtle; for instance, a small defect in RAM can cause all sorts of strange problems not easily traced to a specific hardware problem.

That, however, is an assumption that it is incorrect to make. Very few people have exactly the same load of software, since few people have no third-party apps at all. And misbehaved apps, or corrupted cache or data files (which could occur even with nothing but Apple's software on the iPhone), can cause problems, something which has been well established by the number of people for whom restoring their iPhone as a new phone rather than restoring a backup has cured the problems being experienced. -

If you see "this accessory may not be supported," make sure you are charging your iPhone using one of these methods:
For the quickest charge, connect the device to a power outlet using the USB cable that came with the device and an Apple USB power adapter.
Connect the device directly to a USB port on your computer (not an external keyboard) using the USB cable that came with the device. Your computer must be turned on and not in sleep or standby mode; otherwise, the battery may drain instead of charge.
Depending on the computer, your device may charge quicker if you remove all USB devices except the keyboard and mouse.
If using a portable computer, make sure it is plugged in to power and that the display (or lid) is open. If the display is closed, the computer may go into standby, sleep, or hibernation mode and the device may not charge.
Connect the device to an externally-powered USB hub.

what does it mean when you're about to install itunes and it says This update requires OS X version 10.6.8 or later.??? i don't understand... Can someone please explain to me what that means...??? And how to fix it.
1. It means exactly what it says. Apple dropped support for earlier Mac OS X versions in iTunes 10.7.
2. Update the computer to 10.6.8. If it's running a Mac OS X version prior to 10.6, this requires buying a Mac OS X 10.6 DVD from the online Apple Store, which requires an Intel Mac with at least 1GB of RAM.

Andy.hang on there - before you go posting the whole program - you can find where that error message is printed out, right? It should be in a catch block or something - just post the code that might have thrown the exception that was caught.
You might do a bit of debugging on your own (with System.out.println, for instance) as an inability to determine where the problem is in your code can indicate that you don't understand it well enough to even take suggestions we give you - and if you don't understand it, we certainly don't care to.

I am new to Final Cut Express and don't understand why I am unable to drag transitions into Canvas? Something wrong in my setup? It's not the overlays they are "on" so can anyone advise me please, by the way the "L" doesn't appear in the bottom left hand corner either? and by the way how can I get rid of that irritating Blue badge saying "AutoFill your contact details" all mine are in "address book" already!
You can't drag a transition into the canvas. If you're dragginmg a transition from the effects tab you drag it between the edit point of two clips in the timeline.
Make sure show edit overlays is turned on in the Canvas view popup. -
Slow Macbook Pro- please help, I don't understand previous advice.

I have a very slow Macbook Pro running on Lion 10.7.3.
I looked up this problem on the forums before I sent this message but I didn't quite understand the advice. I have been on something called Disk Utility and Activity Monitor but don't really understand what I'm looking for. It seems a large percentage of my mac is 'idle' if that makes sense. Someone said to look at Page Out but I really don't understand what that means and what sort of numbers are normal.
I do have some storage left so I don't think it could be that. A lot of my gigabytes seem to be taken up by movies and 'other'. I've tried deleted a load of videos but it hardly made a difference. I have Mac Mail and it seems very slow on my Macbook compared to on my Ipad and iphone. iCal is also very slow on here and it always takes a while to load internet pages. It isnt the wifi connection.
Please help and bear in mind I am by no means a Mac whizz so you might have to talk in layman's terms!

AmyIf you have more than ten or so files or folders on your Desktop, move them, temporarily at least, somewhere else in your home folder.
If iCloud is enabled, disable it.
Disconnect all wired peripherals. Launch the usual set of applications you use when you notice the problem.
Step 1
Launch the Activity Monitor application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ If you’re running Mac OS X 10.7 or later, open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Activity Monitor in the page that opens.
Select the CPU tab.
Select All Processes from the menu in the toolbar, if not already selected.
Click the heading of the % CPU column in the process table to sort the entries by CPU usage. You may have to click it twice to get the highest value at the top. What is it, and what is the process? Also post the values for % User, % System, and % Idle at the bottom of the window.
Select the System Memory tab. What values are shown in the bottom part of the window for Page outs and Swap used?
Step 2
Launch the Console application in the same way as above, and select “kernel.log” from the file list. Post the dozen or so most recent messages in the log — the text, please, not a screenshot.
If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Do not post many repetitions of the same message. -
I don't understand why iPhoto recognize the pictrures in the videocamera and iMovie doesn't recognize the videos and the videocamera.
I see all the pictures taken in iPhoto but I can't see any video in iMovie because I don't see the videocamera in iMovie.
I did the same operation several times in the past and always worked it out, with USB connection, I've tryed to restart the computer, to turn on and off the camera, to change cable, to change MAC: always the same problem!

So, when it updates the program is working but then it sort of freezes. Then unfreezes and then again..
hmmm. what antivirus applications are you using?
as an experiment, does the freezing behavior still occur if you disable the antivirus prior to plugging your ipod in?

Many ThanksYep, i just did it again. The entire scroll-bar widget, complete with formatted text, graphics, etc., pasted itself nicely in another book. Two different files, the same widget.
I use the scroll-bar widgets for most of my texts. (I have audio buttons on the side, and the scripts are within the widget, to the side). My only text is within widgets, and text boxes, naturally.
I am following your recommendation: cleaning files, etc. I am remaking the book anew. I need to convince the EPUB bot or whatever that my file looks and works nicely on all my devices. You would expect an error message when previewing the book: 'Hey Amigo, your file is flawed, stop working on it, and get back to the drawing board." Should be able to try again next Monday. -
Trying to understand RSTP - Please can someone explain this?

I am still confused about how RSTP is implemented. From what i understand the major difference is that STP
used Timers for Loop prevention whereas RSTP coordinates between neighbors via messages (proposal/aggreement) to turn on links
more quickly after topology changes and is "timer free".
However, I have not noticed any difference in the configuration from the legacy STP
configurations and the RSTP configuration on cisco devices. Or are there any differences??
I have read in documentation that RSTP natively includes features like UplinkFast, BackboneFast and PortFast. So are these features now obsolete
and not needed to be configured if you are running RSTP. (Although i have seen Portfast still configured along with RSTP on many switches)
Also can someone explain the below Points from Cisco Documentation
1) should STP be disabled on edge ports all together as suggested below?
"STP edge ports are bridge ports that do not need STP enabled, where loop protection is not needed out
of that port or an STP neighbor does not exist out of that port. For RSTP, it is important to disable STP
on edge ports, which are typically front-side Ethernet ports, using the command bridge
bridge-group-number spanning-disabled on the appropriate interface. If RSTP is not disabled on edge
ports, convergence times will be excessive for packets traversing those ports."
2) It seems RSTP relies on duplex setting to determine inter-switch links. What is the configuration to explicitly
configure RSTP link types? (I couldnt find this in the documentation)

The link type is automatically derived from the duplex mode of a port. A port that operates in fullduplex
is assumed to be point-to-point, while a half-duplex port is considered as a shared port by

PortFast/UplinkFast & BackboneFast were cisco "Enhancements" to 802.1d STP. RSTP just incorperates them. If you want to configure portfast, the command is still "spanning-tree portfast"

1) That is your choice - I have bitter experiance of users/IT admins just plugging hubs/switches in when ever they can. Also cabling the switch back to itself creating a cabled loop. So my advice to you is to leave STP enabled on all switch ports, BUT enable BPDUGuard - this is a life saver, if you have configured portfast.
2) duplex auto! or duplex full (overiding)
I really suggest that you read the 802.1d standard, once you understand normal spanning-tree - RSTP will come to you.

My iPhone keeps telling me I don't have enough space to update my software. But I just bought 15GB of storage, of which 11.7GB is free! So I don't understand. Can anybody please help me? I'm really bad with technology so I don't have a clue.
Hi Caroline,
The storage issue you are having is not related to iCloud. The error is telling you that you do not have enough room on your device itself. You need to go to Settings>General>Usage, and under the Storage section at the top, it lists all of your apps and other things taking up room on your device.
You will have to delete or reduce the size of items on this list in order to free up some room for your update.
Also, you may want to try the update by hooking up your device to iTunes on the computer you sync with. It does not require as much free memory to update via iTunes as it does OTA.

Creative Centrale is appallingly bad, creating a new playlist is like torture, now it wont work at all and I have reinstalled it many times. I am going to (reluctantly) have to buy a new player to replace my lovely little Zen Mosaic JUST so I can get some decent software to create playlists.
Really this is beyond belief guys, best hardware out there, worst software. Want to know how Apple became no ? No, it wasnt the flashy looks, all that kudos came later, how they really became no is simple, despite continuing?
