Don't want auto music download on iPad

When I buy music from the iTunes store on my iPad, it downloads automatically. I don't want that to happen. I am quite content to leave the music in iTunes in the Cloud untiI I really want it downloaded. I do have automatic downloads turned off in iTunes & App Store settings, but the auto downloads keep happening. Is this normal? What can I do to actually keep unwanted downloads from happening?

OK, but it makes no sense to me. Given the ease of playing music directly from the cloud, it would seem that the default option would be not to download music automatically, especially when auto downloads is set to off! The way it is now, I have a lot of extra work to do to delete all the songs manually.

How do I get my music only on my IPhone and iPod touch, but keep it off my iPad.

If you're talking about stopping music purchased from the iTunes store automatically downloading to your iPad, go to Settings>iTunes and App Stores and under Automatic Downloads and turn Music to Off.  If your talking about syncing with iTunes, just uncheck Sync Music on the Music tab of your iTunes sync settings before syncing your iPad.

  • Don't want iTunes to download Album Artwork

    Hi all,
Since I add all the album-artwork by hand (and include it in the mp3-file) I don't want iTunes to download the artwork automatically.
So I think i made all the neccessary settings
(unchecked the 'Automatically download missing album artwork' option in the 'preferences/Store' tab)
    , and cleaned the 'iTunes/Album Artwork/Cache/' and 'iTunes/Album Artwork/Download/' folder.
But today I noticed that after start of iTunes, there already/again where folders/files in the 'download' folder, these takes unnecessary disk-space etc, so how can i prevent/enable this?
    grts, Peter
(ps, i don't download music from itunes, I rip my own cd's, put them in a separate folder and add these folders to Itunes library, so

I have just the same question. I don't want iTunes to store that album artwork, it takes that disk space for nothing, I don't mind if iTunes would have to analyze that data every time I open it

what exactly are you trying to accomplish here? i understand that you don't want to see the music status come up on your lock screen, but what are you trying to do by clicking your home button at all?

  • I am having difficulty downloading APPS in my IPAD2. iCloud keeps on reinstalling APPS. And about iTunes, do I have to keep the APPS I downloaded through iTunes? Because I only have a Mac Air 11 64G, so I don't want to back up my iPad apps in the Mac.

Help? I keep on moving in circles. If I download the app through itunes and i go online with the ipad, icloud reinstalls the apps. Then if I download apps with the ipad and I plug it into the Mac, iTunes is forcing me to copy the purchases I made on the iPad to my iTunes. I don't want to keep too many files on the Mac, so I remove them from the iTunes, and if iTunes suddenly decides to force me to synce, I lose a lot of other Apps that I didn't even download using iTunes. I am very confused. How do I do this manually? I don't want to back up everything in the laptop because it's memory is very limited.

Did you ever resolve the iCloud problem.I am in the same position and its driving me mad!!! If you have a link to an solution I would appreciate it.

  • Don't want kids' music on my iPhone!

I have two iMacs—#1 is just for my work and #2 is for my kids but I also have an account on it. I only sync my iPhone to #1. Somehow my iPhone has all the songs that my kids have downloaded to their own iTunes, with the little iCloud icon next to them. I can't figure out what settings I need to change in order to not have their music automatically sync to my device. Thanks.

The cloud symbols are links to music that was purchased with your iTunes ID that are not currently on your phone, allowing you to download them from the iTunes store if you ever want to.  If you don't want to see these on your phone, go to Settings>Music and turn Show All Music off.

  • Apple ID on multiple devices vs iMessage/Facetime (don't want auto setup)

I have few devices under one Apple ID. on that Apple ID a have additional email addresses for iMessage/facetime. I don't need/want receive imessages on all devices simultaneously which was sent to one email. so I am using different email addresses on my devices for imessge/facetime.
when I purchased mac book pro, and added my Apple ID on it, iMessage and Facetime autoamtically added all my email addresses and Mobile Phone number.
But I don't want to receive iMessage and Facetime calls on any new device which was sent to my email addresses which are already used on other devices. I don't want that iMessage and Facetime automatically adds all my email addresses on new devices. Moreover If Someone from my family adds new deives to my apple ID, I don't want that he could receive/read messages which was sent to my email address. He has his own iCloud account. And without direct access to that device I can't turn off all my email addresses in iMessage/Facetime - that is very bad and non secure.
    How to:
    1. without direct access to device prevent receiving/sending messages from my email addresses?
    2. prevent in future  for all new devices automatically setup iMessage and Facetime on my email addresses/mobile phone number

We do this in my family now.  We have one account for purchases, so it is used to share music and apps (I think that is in Settings/iTunes & App Stores).  Each iDevice has this configured.
Then, each of us has our own iCloud account that is configured under Settings/iCloud.  That then allows us to have our own Mail/Contacts/Calendars/Reminders/Safari Bookmarks/Notes/Passbook/Photo Stream/Documents & Data/Find My iPhone/and Backup.  That Backup piece is pretty sweet and comes in handly if you replace your iDevice.  You can just restore from it.
So we all share the Apple Store account but we all have our own iCloud accounts to keep the rest seperate or things like you mentioned are a nightmare.
In answer to what iCloud does for you: http://www.apple.com/icloud/features/
Think of it as an internet based ("cloud") area for all of those items listed in my response.  What you need to remember is photo stream only maintans the last 1000 pictures so don't count it as a complete backup solution for your pictures.  Even though I rarely sync with a computer these days, I do still try to sync my phone with iPhoto (I have an iMac) so that I have copies of all of my pictures.  1000 may not stretch as far as it sounds.

  • I have 2 Apple IDs.  I also have a new laptop.  I have tons of music on my old laptop.  I want to transfer the music from my old laptop to my new laptop, but I don't want the music actually on my new computer.  Is there a way to have the music in iCloud?

I am wanting to have my music available to me, but not actually on the new laptop (like my iPhone is set up to do).  I suppose I am wanting to know if I can transfer, or authorize my new laptop to have all of my music in iCloud, but not actually in iTunes on the laptop?  I want it available to me, but I have over 7000 songs and I don't want to use all the room on my new laptop.  Can someone please help?

  • HT2688 I don't want duplicate music from my husbands account when we homeshare

My husband and I used to have an option at the bottom of itunes in home sharing where we could choose to see either all of each others music or songs we didn't have in our personal libraries. It made it so much easier because we didn't need to search through each others music for songs that each of us already had.  How come this feature is no longer available? I don't want duplicate songs in my iTunes but we each have music the other wants. Does anyone know if this option is gone for good or if something is wrong with our itunes accounts?

The feature still exists, but you need to be logged in with the same Apple-ID on both computers.
    So as an example:
Computer 1 logged in with Apple-ID [email protected]
Computer 2 logged in with Apple-ID [email protected]
If not, home sharing does not work

  • HT1937 My mom dosnt want my music on her ipad but it keeps downloading on it

    can anyone help?

Stop using the same Apple ID for purchases or at the very least turn off auto download on the device in Settings > iTunes Store.
If this is occurring when syncing to a computer, manage what syncs to the device in iTunes.

  • I don't want background music

I need to copy video recordings from my iPad/iPhone to iDVD or iMovie without having any music. I don't know where to turn off the default music. Please help.  Thank you.

Create a slideshow in iDVD with the "+" button at the bottom
and place the video cliips in it.  Set the slideshow volume to zero.
That will let you play the movie clips without sound regardless of what the volume on the DVD player is set to.  It essentially removes the audio from the video recordings.
Do not set iDVD to Scale Photos to TV safe area in iDVD's Slideshow preference pane.
If you put more than one video clip in a slideshow do not use any transition.
If you want the multiple clips to play one after another in an iDVD slideshow select any slide duration except manual.
Also I suggest you follow this workflow in the creation of your iDVD project and disk:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the  File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option.  This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image and launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding was good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

  • Itunes music downloaded to iPad 2 but doesn't show up under "music" app

We have a lot of music in iTunes on the Mac, most of which is from CDs we own. We synced to new iPad 2 and it shows they all went in, but can't get any of the music to show. the "music" button says nothing is there. the "Itunes" button only takes us to the store.

First of all - songs do go to the Music app for playing on the iPad - not iTunes. Look in the Music app. If it's not there - this may help ....
When you sync the iPad with iTunes - you have to select the music to sync within the Music Tab of iTunes. the Sync Music Heading must be checked and the albums, artists, playlists, etc must be selected as well in order to sync.
These kb articles should be of some help. It works the same way on the iPad.
