Don't want column width in new document window
Suddenly, and I can't determine why, my InDesign CS2 has started putting column width as an option in the New Document window. It didn't used to do that. I don't want that to be there. Anyone have any suggestions?

Don't want DW6 to open new documents in Full Screen? How can I do this?
I have read a few posts and there doesn't seem to be an answer yet. Thought I'd bring this to the forefront and see if anything new has been discovered.
When I open my first html document it always opens in Full Screen, which is huge (wide), covering everything else on my desktop (which I use in conjuction with DW). I have to find the tiny little bottom lower right corner (usually close to and almost hidden by the Dock) and drag the window to a workable size. Obviously a new html page is never the width of the full wide screen, so why does DW assume this is a workable size? We all use the Abode products because they work together with each other, which are usually open and working on your desktop as well. Someone at Adobe didn't think this out!No Nancy, everything opens just fine, the issue is the document window opens up full-screen behind everything (all my panels are there on top). The window is obviously upworkable until I scale it to fit in the rest of my viewable space. An html page is centered in this wide-screen upon opening, effectively being partially covered with tabs and panels. The outside space that the full screen window takes up is nothing but a solid color, covering useful space where I want to see my panels, some desktop for other apps if I wish etc. So effectively I have to resize the full screen window down, to the edges of the "workable" html designated space, which is all I need to see. Not 8" of a blank, useless window on each side, covering everything else. I would assume most of us web designers are using and viewing other apps, windows etc. on their desktop at the same time. If nothing else you can't even work on the html page until you resize it i order to see the panels which cover it. In PS for instance once you size a document window the program remembers the size on your screen and position where it opened last.

When closing a Word doc can you stop 'Do you want to keep this new document?'
Hi,
Everytime I close a Word document I keep getting the save document dialogue box appearing with the text 'Do you want to keep this new document [filename]?You can choose to save your changes, or delete this document immediately. You can’t undo this action.'.
How can you stop this? I just want to be able to open a Word document, view it and close it without the hastle of being asked if I want to save it or delete it.

When you open a Word document in Pages, it is converted to Pages format. Pages is asking if you want to save as a Pages document (and replace the Word document). You can stop the Save dialogue box by:
System Preferences > General > Uncheck Ask to keep changes when closing documents.
However, I would be careful. This will apply to all documents that you open in Pages (or Numbers or other apps). You might have a Pages document where you do want a reminder to save. Small problem to say 'Don't Save' to a Word document that you open to view, but don't want to save. I find it is safer to turn on 'Ask to keep changes when closing documents'. That puts you in charge of your work.
Another way to just view a document is to open the document in Preview or TextEdit (right click or control click, Open With).

Is the media already on the iPad? If not, iTunes purchases can be redownloaded if they are still available in iTunes. Non-iTunes purchases would need to be synced from iTunes on a computer. -

Is there a way to print from ipad 4 to a non AirPrint printer?

Thank, RicPrintopia is another option but be aware that since these solutions effectively act as a print server and AirPrint receiver, they require a computer to be running on the same WiFi network.

There are no known viruses for OS X. If you have to worry about a website putting some malware on your computer, then you should not visit it any longer. Find a legitimate site.

To re-install iPhoto
1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
2a: On 10.5: Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name.
2b: On 10.6: Those receipts may be found as follows: In the Finder use the Go menu and select Go To Folder. In the resulting window type
/var/db/receipts/
A Finder Window will open at that location and you can remove the iPhoto pkg files.
3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.
If you purchased it on the App Store you can find it in your Purchases List. -

Want to open a new browser window and display the html file in locale disk.

I want to open a new browser window and display the html file in local drive. The below html applet work in local system successfully. But i deploy the same in web server (Tomcat) and try the same in client machine it does not work. Please help.

The best audience for applets is people off the internet. 'People off the internet' might be using a computer that has no (what was it?) 'open.html' in the root of the C: drive. In fact (shock horror) they may not even be running Windows, and would therefore probably have no 'C:' drive at all.
If you do not intend to distribute this to people off the web, an application makes a lot more sense, but even then, you cannot rely on the document being there unless you 'put it there' (during installation, for instance).
As the other poster intimated, applets can load documents off the local disk as long as they are trusted. Here is an example*, but note that it is not so rash as to presume any particular path or file, and instead leaves it to the user to choose the document to display.

On the other hand, a sandboxed applet can load any document coming from its own server via URL, or get showDocument(URL) to work. In that case, the JRE must recognize that the URL is from its own server, so the best way to form URLs for applet use is via the URL constructor

Of course, in this case the applet loads the document, then parses the text to draw the formatted version, but the point is that an URL produced this way will work with showDocument(URL).
I am pretty sure showDocument() in an applet off the internet will work with an URL pointing to a foreign (not its own) server, but it will not be able to load documents off the end user's local disks.
I suggest a couple of things.
- Try to express this problem in terms of what feature it is that you want to offer the end user. Your question jumps directly to a bad strategy for achieving ..who knows what? An example of a feature is "Shows the applet 'help' files on pressing F1".
- A good way to indicate interest in a solution is to offer [Duke stars|http://wikis.sun.com/display/SunForums/Duke+Stars+Program+Overview] to match that interest.

TextEdit new document window starts off screen
In TextEdit, if I create a new document, the window stretches off the bottom of the screen. The bounds of the window are {133, 53, 760, 882}. This behaviour takes place when the preference setting 'Wrap to page' is checked. If I create a second new document window while the first is still open, it fits within the screen at {154, 22, 781, 851} (it moves up to the right by 21 pixels). How can I get the first document to start within the screen's real estate?
If it is unchecked, the co-ordinates of the upper left corner of the new window are {133, 53}. The size of the window depends upon the font size. Note that the upper left corner also remains the same if I change paper sizes.
I have deleted the preferences but nothing has changed.
Does anyone know how to control the size and location of a new document window, with the 'wrap' feature checked?

I am missing many elements, it seems in my InDesign program. How can this be? I am taking a course at the local college (inDesign CS6), and when going through the book and steps, I keep noticing that I am missing things. For example: When I open a New Document - no new document window shows up on my screen, and there is no way to change the page size, etc that shows up. 2.) There is no Object Styles panel - Window>Styles>Object Styles - but the Object Styles option doesn't exist. 3.) There is no Effects panel to be found, either. As I continue the course, more and more things keep showing up like this. What is going on? I am not doing something wrong; my instructor verified that indeed these things seem to be missing. I purchased the Adobe Creative Suite 6 Design & Web Premium disk for Windows OS. Please help!
I did have trouble installing the disk, but thanks to someone in the forum, I was able to drag everything to the desktop and it installed that way. Could that be why this is happening?The Knowledge Base plugin is not required, but the Master Page is, so there's definitely an install problem. Go back to Help, and hold down the Ctrl key while you click on About InDesign. What is the full version number in the upper left of the dialog that appears?
Also, go to Adobe - Exchange : Download the Adobe Extension Manager and download and install the latest version of the CS6 extension manager. -

Had the same problem. Also worked fine on my MacBook, but not on my new iMac. Here's what I did to fix it:
Archive and Reinstall Mac OS (takes about 40 minutes). This reverted my system back to 10.6.2. Just pop in your Mac OS disc that came with your computer. Mine had 10.6.2 on it, and "Archive and Install" is the default option. When it's done, run software update and update everything. Now it all works fine.
Somewhere along the way, some file got corrupted somehow. But doing an "archive and install" of your OS undoes whatever file damage was incurred, and allows everything to update normally via Software Update as it should. -
I have an Ipod nano 7th gen and unfortunately I dropped the Earpods into a bowl of milk for about 5 seconds. I can't tell if the sound quality has decreased but will they be ok because I don't want to pay more money for new ones?
No way to tell... You should not use them for a few days and leave them a warm well-ventilated location. After that, if they seem to be working fine, you are probably OK.
