Don't want Flash to load or do you? ClickToFlash-plugin

Discretion from MacUpdate web page:
DESCRIPTION
ClickToFlash is a WebKit plug-in that prevents automatic loading of Adobe Flash content. If you want to see the content, you can opt-in by clicking on it or adding an entire site to the whitelist.
Try control-clicking (or right-clicking) on an unloaded Flash box to access ClickToFlash's contextual menu which allows you to do advanced things like edit its whitelist, specify settings, and load all Flash on the page.
http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/30682
You can click on the cog icon in the upper left of the Flash bounding box to open a preference box.
I haven't played with it much. Two things I do like is you can load the h.264 video from youtube and play it in Quicktime instead of Flash player. Web pages full of Flash ads load extremely fast.
You can also download the video.
Here's the ClicktoFlash web page.

The datasource acts as a connection object that has all the
information your query needs to
connect to the desired data base. You do a one-time setup in
the ColdFusion Admin as outlined
below. After that, all you have to do in your query is point
to the datasource name in order to
connect.
Here are instructions on how to set up a datasource for your
Access database:
1. Go to the ColdFusion
Administrator/Data&Services/DataSources.
2. In the main frame on the right, under Add New Data Source,
enter a name for your datasource. NOTE: it must comply with
ColdFusion
naming conventions.
3. For a Driver, select Microsoft Access with Unicode.
4. Click the Add button.
5. For Database File, browse to the mdb you are using for a
database.
6. If you wish, you can fill in descriptive notes about the
db under Description.
7. If you are using a Username and Password, click on
Advanced Settings and enter them.
8. If many people are going to hit your Access database,
check Limit Connections and
set Restrict Connections to 1 (MS Access is
single-threaded).
9. Click the Submit button.
10.You will be brought back to the main Data Source page.
Your new data source should be
there with an OK next to it. This means you can connect to
your datasource via ColdFusion.
When using cfquery, you will use the name you gave your
datasource in step 2 above for the
datasource attribute.
<cfquery datasource="datasourcenameFromStep2"
name="yourQuery">
SELECT model, make, year
FROM carTable
</cfquery>
As mentioned in other posts, you don't have to use
Dreamweaver. You can code CFML using a standard text editor like
Notepad. Dreamweaver does however provide many productivity
benefits
for development projects.

  • Flash player crashes my win 7 64 sys -  I don't want flash, get rid of it...

I have a new win 7 64bit system on a AMD Asus 880G box. It freezes once or twice a day, with Side-By-Side, AIR related errors. EVERY TIME I restart after a freeze/crash, it starts with a Adobe Flash Update nag screen at startup (every single time!) Event logs ALWAYS show SBS AIR related errors.
I've been a Photoshop user since PS4, and have updated all the way to CS5. I use/need, that is, I need PS. I don't want Flash, I don't want AIR, or Device Central or Adobe Updater or any other crap.
I had a stabile sys, after installing CS5, when I uninstalled every thing Adobe that wasn't PS or Bridge. Then the sys was reliable. But I couldn't open a PDF; no Adobe Reader!?!  So after installing Adobe Reader from the PS CS5 disk, I'm back to square one, and Flash up-dater and crashes.
I won't say that I hate Adobe people, but I would like to find a way to have PS CS5 and some new current version of a PDF Reader, and nothing else; no auto-crash Flash up-dater crap, no AIR, no other crap.
Is this possable; any help would be very much appreciated, thank you, Jim

Thank you very much for the reply.
I didn't know that Flash is a necessary component of Photoshop CS.
I'll try to be more specific about the problem that I have, I'm sorry I wasn't more clear in my first posts. (This is more frustrating than you can probably imagine.)
I can uninstall everything that is shown as Adobe, except PS and Bridge, that is, I've uninstalled everything Adobe that's not PS and bridge, and then have had an installation that shows only PS and Bridge in 'programs' and the 'Control Panel'. That configuration seems to be stable and reliable, run for about a week with no problems (I didn't know that Flash is still installed, but I'm not having problems.)  But then there is no PDF reader installed (no Acrobat Reader).
I've then down loaded and installed the latest Acrobat Reader, and I back to having the Flash Updater problems/crashes. And I get Adobe Updater popup screens, prompting updates (?). And I also get the Windows security warning popups, "Adobe website wants to down load programs to your computer".
I make my living with photography (and Photoshop). I'm trying to have a computer with PS and Bridge and some useful PDF reader, BUT no automatic updates or down loads.
Again, I don't know for sure that this is the cause of the problem, but with 20-30 crashes, the only error reports consistant are the SXS AIR. And on every restart the Flash Updater popup is on screen at start-up. When I start-up any other time, from a normal or good shut down, the Flash Updater popup screen has never been up on start-up.
Is it possable to get new Acrobat Reader installed and be able to disable or uninstall all of the automatic communication and update stuff?
    thank you
PS, Photoshop installed is CS5 (64 bit)
PPS, not sure now about eidnolb's post, not sure that Flash is part of and necessary to PS (??)

So even when I load up websites (like ones we here at my job have created) with very simple HTML and absolutely nothing Flash related, I still get a pop-up asking me to install flash (pops down from the URL bar at left.) How can I stop this without disabling all plug-in updates?
Moreover, why in the name of all that's good is it asking me about Flash when I have no pages open with anything remotely Flash like on them?

Open new FLASH file and on first frame place button which
    reads "Load Video" or whatever
is that you find suitable. The action to load it would be
(select button, hit f9 to open
    action editor and paste):
    on (release) {
    loadMovieNum("video.swf", 1);
Make sure that the empty file with button is in the exact
same size as the video swf file.
Now, this will come on top of the button and the button will
    remain active what might confuse
visitors if they hover over the video.
You may want to disable the button or make the main movie
    with two frames.
    Frame 1 has stop(); action and button with nextFrame();
action than on the second frame you have
the loadMovienum action so the button moves timeline to next
frame and no longer exists and than
    it loads the video file.
Let me know if I confuse you with something :)

  • I don't want to restore

So I've read all the troubleshooting tips and I talked to the lady on the Apple technical support phone line, but none of it is working. I can't get my iPod to even run long enough to attempt updating the software, which was apparently my problem. The sad face shows up once in a while, but mainly the battery sign is flashing but I don't think it's charging.
My first question is, will it charge at all with that flashing, or does that mean it can't even charge? All the "tips" on the page require the iPod to be charged before doing them.
My second question is, I have not backed up the music at all. I delete the songs off of my computer as soon as I have them on the iPod, since it is my dad's computer. So now I think my only option is restoring my iPod completely (if I can even get it to respond long enough to do that.) BUT I have spent over $100 on songs (it doesn't seem like that much, but to me it is) and I am not willing to just kiss those songs goodbye without a fight.
I need to find out whether there is anything I can do to force my iPod to function long enough for me to get the songs off of it so I can restore it, or if I am basically screwed and out $100 and whatever repairs will cost.

    Hummm ..
Seems that prioity is to copy the music from your iPod to a computer. Knowing that your iPod can't boot up and doing a Restore will erase all the data on your iPod.
I am not sure the following works in your case, but I reckon that you go thru all the suggestions below
    Hello,
If a sad iPod icon or an exclamation point and folder icon appears on your iPod’s screen, or with sounds of clicking or HD whirring, it is usually the sign of a hard drive problem and you have the power to do something about it now. Your silver bullet of resolving your iPod issue – is to restore your iPod to factory settings.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=60983
If you're having trouble, try these steps at different levels one at a time until the issue is resolved. These steps will often whip your iPod back into shape.
Make sure you do all the following “TRYs”
    A. Try to wait 30 minutes while iPod is charging.
    B. Try another FireWire or USB through Dock Connector cable.
    C. Try another FireWire or USB port on your computer .
    D. Try to disconnect all devices from your computer's FireWire and USB ports.
    E. Try to download and install the latest version of iPod software and iTunes
    http://www.apple.com/ipod/download/
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
    F. Try these five steps (known as the five Rs) and it would conquer most iPod issues.
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/
    G. Try to put the iPod into Disk Mode if it fails to appear on the desktop
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93651
If none of these steps address the issue, you may need to go to Intermediate level listed below in logical order. Check from the top of the lists to see if that is what keeping iPod from appearing on your computer in order for doing the Restore.
    Intermediate Level
    A. Try to connect your iPod with another computer with the iPod updater pre-installed.
    B. Still can’t see your iPod, put it in Disk Mode and connect with a computer, instead of doing a Restore on iPod Updater. Go and format the iPod instead.
    For Mac computer
    1. Open the disk utility, hope your iPod appears there (left hand side), highlight it
    2. Go to Tab “Partition”, click either “Delete” or “Partition”, if fails, skip this step and go to 3
    3. Go to Tab “Erase” , choose Volume Format as “MAC OS Extended (Journaled), and click Erase, again if fails, skip it and go to 4
    4. Same as step 3, but open the “Security Options....” and choose “Zero Out Data” before click Erase. It will take 1 to 2 hours to complete.
    5. Eject your iPod and do a Reset
    6. Open the iPod Updater and click “Restore”
    For Window computer
    Go to folder “My Computer”
Hope you can see your iPod there and right click on the iPod
Choose “Format”. Ensure the settings are at “Default” and that “Quick Format” is not checked
    Now select “Format”
Eject your iPod and do a Reset
Open the iPod Updater and click “Restore”
In case you do not manage to do a “Format” on a window computer, try to use some 3rd party disk utility software, e.g.“HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool”.
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=501330&tstart=0
    C. Windows users having trouble with their iPods should locate a Mac user. In many cases when an iPod won't show up on a PC that it will show up on the Mac. Then it can be restored. When the PC user returns to his computer the iPod will be recognized by the PC, reformatted for the PC, and usable again. By the way, it works in reverse too. A Mac user often can get his iPod back by connecting it to a PC and restoring it.
    Tips
    a. It does not matter whether the format is completed or not, the key is to erase (or partly) the corrupted firmware files on the Hard Drive of the iPod. After that, when the iPod re-connected with a computer, it will be recognized as an fresh external hard drive, it will show up on the iPod updater.
    b. It is not a difficult issue for a Mac user to find a window base computer, for a PC user, if they can’t find any Mac user, they can go to a nearest Apple Shop for a favor.
    c. You may need to switch around the PC and Mac, try to do several attempts between “Format” and “Restore”
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=2364921&#2364921
    Advance Level
    A. Diagnostic mode solution
If you have tried trouble shooting your iPod to no avail after all the steps above, chances are your iPod has a hardware problem. The iPod's built-in Diagnostic Mode is a quick and easy way to determine if you have a "bad" iPod.
You need to restart your iPod before putting it into Diagnostic Mode. Check that your hold switch is off by sliding the switch away from the headphone jack. Toggle it on and off to be safe.
Press and hold the following combination of buttons simultaneously for approximately 10 seconds to reset the iPod.
    iPod 1G to 3G: "Menu" and "Play/Pause"
iPod 4G+ (includes Photo, Nano, Video, and Mini): "Menu" and "Select"
The Apple logo will appear and you should feel the hard drive spinning up. Press and hold the following sequence of buttons:
iPod 1G to 3G: "REW", "FFW" and "Select"
iPod 4G+ (includes Photo, Nano, Video, and Mini): "Back" and "Select"
You will hear an audible chirp sound (3G models and higher) and the Apple logo should appear backwards. You are now in Diagnostic Mode. Navigate the list of tests using "REW" and "FFW". The scroll wheel will not function while in diagnostic mode. For further details on Diagnostic mode can be found at http://www.methodshop.com/mp3/ipodsupport/diagnosticmode/
Try to do the 5in1, HDD R/W and HDD scan tests. Some successful cases have been reported after the running the few tests under the Diagnostic mode. In case it does not work in your case, and the scan tests reports show some errors then it proves your iPod has a hardware problem and it needs a repairing service.
    B. Format your iPod with a start disk
I have not tried this solution myself, I heard that there were few successful cases that the users managed to get their iPod (you must put your iPod in disk mode before connecting with a computer) mounted by the computer, which was booted by a system startup disk. For Mac, you can use the Disk Utility (on the Tiger OS system disk), for PC user, you can use the window OS system disk. Try to find a way to reformat your iPod, again it does not matter which format (FAT32, NTFS or HFS+) you choose, the key is to erase the corrupted system files on the iPod. Then eject your iPod and do a Reset to switch out from Disk Mode. Reboot your computer at the normal way, connect your iPod back with it, open the iPod updater, and hopefully your iPod will appear there for the Restore.
If none of these steps address the issue, your iPod may need to be repaired.
Consider setting up a mail-in repair for your iPod http://depot.info.apple.com/ipod/
Or visit your local Apple Retail Store http://www.apple.com/retail/
In case your iPod is no longer covered by the warranty and you want to find a second repairing company, you can try iPodResQ at your own risk
    http://www.ipodresq.com/index.php
Just in case that you are at the following situation
    Your iPod warranty is expired
You don’t want to pay any service charges
You are prepared to buy a new one
You can’t accept the re-sell value of your broken iPod
Rather than leave your iPod as paper-weight or throw it away.
You can try the following, but again, only do it as your last resort and at your own risk.
Warning !!!! – It may or may not manage to solve your problem, and with a risk that you may further damage your iPod, which end up as an expensive paper weight or you need to pay more higher repairing cost. Therefore, please re-consider again whether you want to try the next level
    Last Resort Level
    1. . Disconnecting the Hard Drive and battery inside the iPod – Warning !! Your iPod warranty will be waived once you open the iPod.
In Hong Kong there are some electronic shops offering an iPod service for Sad iPod, the first thing they do is to open up the iPod’s case and disconnecting the battery and the Hard Drive from the main board of the iPod. Wait for 5-10 minutes and reconnecting them back. The reason behind which I can think of is to do a fully reset of a processor of the iPod. In case you want do it itself and you believe that you are good on fixing the electronics devices and have experience to deal with small bits of electronic parts, then you can read the following of how to open the iPod case for battery and HDD replacement (with Quicktimes)
    http://eshop.macsales.com/tech_center/index.cfm?page=Video/directory.html
2.Press the reset button on the Hard Drive inside the iPod – Suggestion from Kill8joy
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=2438774#2438774
Have I tried these myself? No, I am afraid to do it myself as I am squeamish about tinkering inside electronic devices, I have few experiences that either I broke the parts (which are normally tiny or fragile) or failed to put the parts back to the main case. Therefore, I agree with suggestion to have it fixed by a Pro.

  • Do not want Quicktime to load automatically

I have searched the forum for my answer with no luck.
I am a Cinematographer, I am putting together my showreel. The reel consists of between 8 or 10 QuickTimes, each between 5 to 8 MB in size. When the page loads all the quicktimes load. That is a big download. I want the person viewing the site to decide whether it loads. I have deselected autoplay, so they don't play unless the viewer decides to play it, but I don't want it to load at all until the viewer decides to load each one individually.Any ideas

Put each of your QT movies on a separate page and have a master page with a list of titles and/or a screenshot of a representative frame as a link to each.
Make this link an external one so that the movie cab be opened in a new browser window or provide a back button to the list so that you don't have to include all the movies in the site navigation.
