Don't want IPhoto to open when I plug in camera

Where can I set Iphoto to NOT auto launch when I plug in USB camera? I would rather just preview first and then import the few I want to save. Yes, I can just quit Iphoto but that's dumb.

Open the Image Capture application in the Applications folder and turn off the option to have iPhoto open when a camera is connected in Image Capture's preferences.

  • How do I stop iPhoto from opening when i plug in my iPhone?

How do I stop Iphoto from opening when I plug in my Iphone?

Having the preference in iPhoto makes perfect sense to me.  After all, iPhoto is the application that opens.  You would expect that is where you should provide some guidance not to open.
What puzzles me much more is why you would post this comment more than 18 months after wjosten answered the original question.

  • Don't want iPhoto to open automatically when camera is attached

How can I get iPhoto to quit opening when I have a camera attached to the computer. I don't use this program for editing photos, not do I download photos to it and so don't want it to take five minutes to open every time I connect my camera or iPhone.

    Open iPhoto.
Go to iPhoto > Preferences > General > "Connecting camera opens:" and choose "No application".
If you don't see that option then perhaps you are not using iPhoto '09. Go the the iPhoto menu > About iPhoto and check the version. Should be 8.1.2.

  • Don't want iPhoto to Open and other questions

Whenever I connect my camera to the usb cable iPhoto opens up and I don't want it to... it takes forever as I have over 5000 pictures and I get the spinning rainbow wheel..
So, any suggestions as to how to have iPhoto ONLY open when I want to open it?
any suggestions as to how to speed it up short of deleting pictures?
Can iPhoto 5.0.4 be upgraded to a newer version by a quick download or do I have to purchase all the upgrades?

    1. Go to Image Capture in your Applications Folder. Use the Preferences to that app to decide what happens when you connect a camera.
    2. Some possibilities: More RAM, you don't say how much you have.
Try Rebuild the library: Hold down the Command and Option keys, and open iPhoto
Also, how big is your HD, and how much free space on it?
iPhoto 6 saw a big improvement in speed over v5. Though, again, this will depend on your Hardware.
    3. Updates (i.e. bug fixes etc) such as from 5.0 to 5.0.1 are free but Upgrades (new features) such as from v5 to v6 require that your purchase the iLife Package. They cannot be downloaded.

  • How can i prevent iphoto from opening when i plug in my iphone to the computer?

    Hi There,
I have  a question, when I connect my iPhone to the computer the iPhoto automatically opens.
how can i prevent this from happening? it always slows down my computer.
    any help will be appreciated.
    thanks

Image Capture (in your Applications Folder) - In the preferences you can decide to 'Do Nothing' when a camera is connected.
Some versions also have this option in the iPhoto Preferences.

  • I don't want "Mail" to open when I respond to website, instead I want Earthlink mail to send the response

Hi, newbie here.  I do not use Apple "Mail" (nor do I want to).  Problem: in websites I respond/click to respond and "Mail" automatically opens up.  How do I configure the MacBook Pro 10.7 to not go to the default of "Mail?"  I have looked at mail preferences and it gives me the option of "mail" in the general section or choose; when I hit choose I get my apps etc and do not see how I would indicate to use my earthlink email or charter email as defaults.  Any suggestions?

You can't select Web Based email for this purpose. You have to chose a email prgram on your computer.
What you would need to do is copy the email address and then go to youe Web Based email and send from that.

  • Turn off iPhoto automatically opening when iPod syncs

When I plug in my iPod Touch, iTunes automatically opens, as does iPhoto if I have saved photos on my iPod.  I don't want iPhoto to open up as sometimes I'm in the middle of other work.  Is there a way to turn off iPhoto from automatically opening whenever I plug my iPod Touch in to sync?

Sorry, I don't understand this - you don't want Adobe [Reader] not to open when doing what?  On what operating system?

  • Don't want iPhoto opening

I rarely use the camera on the iPhone and would prefer that iPhoto did not open and ask to download pictures every time I sync. Is there someway to turn off this automatic feature?

+I rarely use the camera on the iPhone and would prefer that iPhoto did not open and ask to download pictures every time I sync. Is there someway to turn off this automatic feature?+
As has been correctly pointed out by others you can keep iPhoto from launching whenever any camera is attached, including the iPhone. However, that's a pain if you actually use a camera with your Mac and use iPhoto to manage it. Since you don't use the camera on the iPhone very often you may not realize that if you just delete any pictures currently in the iPhone's Camera Roll then iPhoto will not launch.
If you still want those pictures but don't want iPhoto launching every time, just let iPhoto import them to your computer (choose the option to delete them when you're done!) and make an "iPhone photos" folder within iPhoto. Put any pictures you want to appear on your iPhone (including ones you have taken using the iPhone camera) into this folder. Setup iTunes to sync that folder to your iPhone. The process can even be automated using smart folders.
Now you will only be asked to sync when you have new photos on the iPhone. And you'll always have a permanent record of the photos in iPhoto.

    Hi Spookola,
I don't know how that could have happened. Go through the folders for the rolls and separate the 2005 rolls from the 2006 rolls, then import the 2006 rolls.

  • Can I NOT have iPhoto open when I plug in my iPhone?

Every time I plug my iPhone, iPhoto pops up (turns on). Is there a way NOT to have iPhoto pop up? iTunes obviously comes up too which is fine; just don't want iPhoto coming up.

    Kevin Lee5,
Yes, you can turn it off. However, first an overview of why it pops up.
iPhoto pops up and offers to import any pictures taken on the iPhone to the computer when there are pictures taken on the iPhone. These pictures might not be backed up, and gives you an opportunity to import them so that they are on more than just the iPhone. If you initiate a remote wipe, reset all settings and content, or lose your iPhone they could be lost.
Setting it to pop up will affect all digital cameras, so you will need to open iPhoto manually to import photos from a digital camera in addition to the iPhone.
In iPhoto 7, you can turn it off in the in the iPhoto preferences. Select "No Application" in the General tab where it says, "Connecting camera opens:"
Regardless of which version of iPhoto you have installed, the same option appears in the Image Capture preferences as well.
    Hope this helps,
    Nathan C.

  • ITunes no longer opens when I plug in my iPhone - iPhoto does. Help!

Don't know what happened - but when I plug in my iPhone to sync - iPhoto opens up - not iTunes.   I went to Help, and changed USB port, restarted computer and iPhone....  iPhoto still opens instead of iTunes.  Device only shows up on iPhoto window, not iTune.  Is there a fix?

It SHOULD show up in iPhoto if you have photos in your Camera Roll, in addition to opening in iTunes.
