Don't Want Preview To Be Default Viewer

I'd like an image viewer other than Preview to be my default one. How do I do that?
The viewer that I want ("Just Looking") has no option to set as default.

Click on a file that is the file type you want to change (for example: __.jpg or ___.pdf) and go to File -> Get Info. Then go to "Open With" and select the program you want to open it with and then click "apply to all".

  • Don't want Reader to be default viewer

I just had to download the new version of Reader for one particular website and pdf file. Now it is always used by Safari even though Preview is the default setting. I want it to STOP! How do I get Safari to stop using Reader? I have a Macbook Pro and am using OSX Lion. This did not happen with the older version of Reader.

    Hi adoberne,
Please check the Disable AdobePDFViewer plug-in under Apple Safar section of the KB: Acrobat Help | Display PDF in browser | Acrobat, Reader XI
You need to delete AdobePDFViewer.plugin and theAdobePDFViewerNPAPI.plugin from the  the Internet Plug-ins folder.

  • How do i Restore Preview as my default viewer when using Safari, seems adobe has hi jacked Safari,if i uninstall adobe safari will not open any pdf files.

How do i restore Preview as my default viewer.
Seems adobe has hi-jacked Safari and and opens using abobe not preview.
Have uninstalled adobe but safari then will not display any pdf files.
Preview still works fine to view existing downloaded files.

What kind of files?  PDFs?  or Others as well?
If you want Preview to open all PDFs, then find a PDF on your HD.
Highlight it, and then press the Apple/Comand key along with th letter " i " key.
When the window comes up, look down to the "Open with" line, and change it from Adobe to Preview.
Then look slightly below, and select "Change All."
Now, all PDFs should open with Preview.

  • I want to deploy an application using firefox but I don't want it set as default browser. I am using mozilla.cfg to lockdown firefox.

I am deploying an application using firefox. I am using the mozilla.cfg file to lockdown firefox and I don't want firefox to be the default browser.

Try the option to "Force Firefox to make itself the default" as shown in this article - http://kb.mozillazine.org/Default_browser
Another possibility is your email application may be hard-coded to use IE.

  • We don't want to synchronise the custom views on every client accessing the same account

    Hi
In our company we have a few clients accessing the same exchange account (not as shared mailbox). Outlook always synchronizes the custom view settings and inbox view (such as sorting order) between all clients. We want to disable this behavior, say Client1
shows ExchAccount1 inbox sorted by categories, Clinet2 shows ExchangeAccount1 sorted by receiving time, maybe having set different default fonts and so forth.
Every client should be able to keep it's custom view settings even if the view is changed on another client accessing the same mailbox with the same login. Is this possible to accomplish?
    Thanks already
[repost from MS Office Community forums at http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/office/forum/office_2010-outlook/we-dont-want-to-synchronise-the-custom-views-on/8ab7d79c-451e-4267-a43f-9d4a3182c076]

    Hi wasiwasi,
Base on my knowledge, it is impossible to accomplish.
When you log the same mailbox on different clients, it will sync with each other, and save the last changed on the client.

  • How do I select preview as my default viewer while in Safari?

I had to download Adobe in order to download a certain file, it is now set up as my defauly viewer. When I try to download files off my school website it will no longer view the file. It used to come up with preview and then I had the options to zoom, print or save. I want it back that way and have looked through both the Safari and Preview prefrences and I cannot figure out how to switch Preview back to my defualt. I've tried the Command + I trick on PDF's I have already downloaded and it works for that, but not in Safari.

    Remove Adobe plug ins.
    Macintosh HD > Library > Internet Plug-ins
    AdobePDFViewNPAPI.plugin
    AdobePDFView.plugin

  • Don't want Album Starter as default to display pics

Talk about the evil empire - I thought Microsoft was bad about hijacking your machine! I was recently forced to upgrade Acrobat Reader and it evidently installed Acrobat Album Starter and set it up as the default program to display pictures from my digital camera. Frankly, Explorer does a better job of displaying them. I first tried disabling it, then tried exiting it. But, Adobe Photoshop Album Starter still "controls" my pictures when I click on them. I hate the fact that when clicking on the "+" to zoom in I have no ability for it to automatically zoom in on the point I want to zoom in on. So, not only is the program a junk for what I need, it has taken over my computer through no fault of my own!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Double click on My Documents - on the desktop... then
    Select:
    Tools
    Folder Options
    File Types
now change the file type to match the s/w... I had this same problem - 3Starter Edition took over as my jpg editor -
don't you just hate when these software companies want to take over what you are used to!!! I would like to find out how to get that darned Launch icon out of my "running applications" don't know the name of that bar - but Adobe puts it in as a launcher - takes up other resources, I'm sure!!

  • Can I reset my search engine to Wikipedia? I don't want any of those default Search Engines anymore they are too intrusive. And I can not Empty Cache any more and Google has taken over the address bar?

Can someone please explain how this now works? And am I obligated to load Mountain Lion. It's a very expensive price to pay for online privacy that isn't even Private anymore. I am old enough that I don't have to pay ransome. I can just quit.
I didn't say and was never asked If I wanted Mountain Lion. I can no longer 'Empty Cache' at the end of a session online and when I do a search now (and this has all changed overnight) the query is typed into what used to be the address bar and when the search results appear, after reading the first result and I want to read the second or fifth or Any of the other results of the query I am forced to resubmit the search in the address bar because the 'Page Back' button has been removed and the Little Red Dot closes the Search Results Page altogether.
What else am I in for with Mountain Lion? I already know that I do NOT want anything to do with iCloud. I am willing to bet a lot of money that a pharmaceutical company one day is going to be holding me for ransome with a new drug that was created out of the symptoms of a once - upon - a - time naturally occuring symptom of aging. At least I can turn my Macbook off and leave it that way and the world will not cease to exist. (Or will it?)

    Computer operation 101.
Get a bootable, external HD (preferably FireWire, since it's 40-50% faster than USB 2 and designed for data transfers), make a bootable backup/clone before updating/upgrading, using something like Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper!, and ensure that it's bootable and works like the original. That allows you to revert to the previous good state without having to reinstall or reset anything. See these for details:
    http://www.macmaps.com/upgradefaq.html
    http://www.macmaps.com/backup.html
    http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/installswupdates.html
    http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/backuprecovery.html
If you only have a Time Machine backup, ensure that you can reliably restore it to another disk/volume/partition before updating/upgrading.

  • Preview as default viewer of pdf's in safari

After changing to Tiger and Safari 2, pdf's are not openend in preview, but in a new Safari window. If I want the pdf in Preview, I'll have to control-click it. However, the pdf then is not on my desktop, so that save as is not possible. How can I have Preview as my default viewing program with files being automatically downloaded on my desctop? This was possible in Safari 1.
    Any suggestions?
    j

Quit Safari, load up '/Applications/Utilities/Terminal' and enter the following command to disable Safari's native PDF support..
defaults write com.apple.Safari WebKitOmitPDFSupport -bool YES
Launch Safari and navigate to its Preferences section. Check the box which allows the automatic opening of 'safe' files. Set the default download location to be your desktop.

  • HT5772 How do I delete podcast episodes that I don't want to keep without having them stay in my List view in iTunes and clog it up?  I have some episodes that I've listened to that I want to keep, but others I want to delete.

Using iTunes on my MacBookPro, I find that when I want to delete selected podcast eisodes, they still stay in my List view with the cloud symbol next to them. I don't want them in my List view. I want them gone. I don't want to download them ever again. I do keep some episodes so I don't want to do the draconian thing and delete all podcast episodes once I've heard them. The other problem I have with trying to delete episodes is that some podcasts then have the same episodes pop back up as though I haven't listened to them. I've deleted a bunch of Science Friday episodes only to have them download again ready to hear. Not only that, but some episodes will finish playing or stop playing in the middle of an episode and a random podcast will start playing. Think! does that. GAH!!
Does anyone know a workaround? The same nonsense happens in any iTunes view I try.
    <Edited by Host>

You can delete photos from individual albums but not from the camera roll.  If you try to delete a photo from camera roll it will be deleted from all other albums ("locations") that contain the photo.  This is because the actual photo is in the camera roll (the albums only contain links to the photo in camera roll, not the actual photo).

  • How to restore the default view setting for FINDER?

I played with my finder's view setting and I set it default to all..
Now I want to restore the default view setting, how is that possible?
    Thanks!

Go to your home folder -> Library -> Preferences. Locate the file com.apple.Finder.plist and trash it. Then control-option-click Finder's Dock icon and select Relaunch. All Finder settings will now be back to the OS X defaults.

  • Documents saved in firefox format cannot be viewed in the preview pane. Why? Also, I don't want my documents changed to another format. How do I change back?

Documents in Firefox format do not open automatically in the preview pane. Why? Also, I don't want my documents changed from the original format. How do I change them back and how do I keep this from happening again. I don't want to have to select a different format every time I try to open a document. That is a pain in the neck. I want to "click to open" and the document be in it's original format. If necessary I will go back to one of the other browsers I have used in the past. As I don't want multiple browsers on my computer it would be necessary to uninstall Firefox. I like it so far other than you all hijacking my documents and altering the way they open. You also might want to remember that even the "legitimate" folks on the internet are seen as predatory, i.e., gathering information, tricking us into installing crap we don't want or need, and in some cases, requiring a specific program to open a specific document. I'd be working very hard to show you are trustworthy. If you have a solution to this and it is complex then you will be wasting your time and my time trying to explain it. You guys created this so, if I'm going to use Firefox, you fix it on your end. FYI, if I have to uninstall Firefox I will, when asked, strongly recommend against using your service. Thank you.

    Do you mean PDF documents?
The installer was supposed to add Firefox as an ADDITIONAL viewer for PDFs, not as the DEFAULT viewer. Sorry you were affected by this glitch and hopefully they will figure out why some systems get changed this way.
You can try this fix suggested by a user in another thread:
    # Open Adobe Reader / Acrobat*
    # Edit->Preferences
    # In the Categories column click 'General'
    # Near the bottom of the page click the button marked 'Select Default PDF Handler'
    # In the dialog, select 'Adobe Reader XI' (or Adobe Acrobat, as the case may be) and click 'Apply'
    # A Windows Configuration screen will appear. Allow it to do its stuff (takes a few minutes), then restart your computer when prompted.
    Does that work for you?
''*'' If you do not have Adobe Reader 10 or 11, you can install it from here: http://get.adobe.com/reader/

  • Preview full screen defaulting single page view

    Hello All,
I like the full screen feature in OS Lion. This way i use Preview to read articles. When i open a doc, full screen mode gives two adjacent pages default view.
I want to open an article an display it default as single page continuous.
    Is it possible ?
    Regards

I don't know, since I rarely use it w/19" monitor, but you can file an enhancement report (or bug report) with Apple, via its Bug Reporter system. Join the Apple Developer Connection (ADC)—it's free and available for all Mac users and gets you a look at some development software. Since you already have an Apple username/ID, use that. Once a member, go to Apple BugReporter and file your bug report/enhancement request. You'll get a get a Bug (ER) ID number; thus, starting a dialog directly with engineering.

  • "I would like to know how to set the default view for the columns. Somewhere I read it could be done in by music icon under Library.  Can't find it.  Thanks

"I would like to know how to set the default view for the columns that are shown in iTunes. Every time I open it, I have to either go to the options, or right-click to get the pop-up options, and delete "rating" and add "composer." I'd really like to just do it once and be done with it."  Somewhere I read you could do this by clicking on the Music icon under LIBRARY then arramge the columns.  Trouble is, I can't find a Musi Folder or icon in my user library.
Any help would be appreiated.  OSX 10.9.2  iTunes version 11.1.5  Thanks!!! CW!

From the iTunes menu bar try View>Show View Options.  Make sure what you want to see is checked and what you don't is unchecked.  You can do this (may need to do this) for any playlists, your main Library, etc.
    Good luck
