DON;T WANT TO GO TO HOME PAGE WHEN I OPEN NEW TAB

HOW DO I STOP GOING TO HOME PAGE WHEN I OPEN A NEW TAB? I DON'T WANT TO GO TO HOME PAGE WHEN I OPEN A NEW TAB, I WANT TO SEE A BLANK PAGE, THEN I CAN PUT IN THE URL OF MY CHOICE. I ONLY WANT TO SEE HOME PAGE WHEN I OPEN FIREFOX, OR WHEN I SELECT IT USING THE HOME PAGE BUTTON.

Start Firefox in <u>Safe Mode</u> to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
*Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

Software? See if you can get it removed with some anti-malware tools. Spybot, AVG, Kapersky, et cetera...
If you know the name of the program, you could search the registry for any instance of that name and --be CAREFUL--delete them.
And I have to ask: Did you go back to Firefox after uninstalling this program and reset the "when I open a new tab..." setting? What about your home page?

• I want to have two home pages when I open Firefox, where is the setting for this?

In my computer class at school the instructor told us that you can set your browser to have two tabs open when you start the browser... I would like to be able to have my Facebook and my favorite blog to come up every time I open FireFox, but I cant find the setting myself... please help!!

Hi b_dan_gidd,
All you have to do is open both pages in different tabs and then choose Use Current Pages while you are setting your home page. It's actually really easy. Just take a look at the Knowledge base article How to set the home page.
Hopefully this helps!

You can modify Firefox with and extension, I personally would not want that at all, before dismissing a tab I make sure there is nothing in the tab in a backward direction, and would consider looking a anything but a blank page for a new tab as a distracting encumbrance but you can do what you ask for. See the following:

The built-in Firefox search bar works just as a well as the search in the default home page.

• I cannot find a way to set my home page as default when I open new tabs

open firefox 4 beta
select a home page through options menu
open a new tab
It is a blank page
Look for a way to have the new tab open with the home page as default.
In IE there is a checkbox to select the home page as default on new tabs
Using Win7 pro premium

You can look at one of these extensions:

That is the snippet container.
You can hide that container or set the <b>browser.aboutHomeSnippets.updateUrl</b> pref to an empty String on the <b>about:config</b> to make Firefox use some default snippets.
You can hide the box that shows the snippets with code in userContent.css

You can use the ChromEdit Plus or Stylish extension to have easier access to the customization files.

• How can I set my preference so when I open new tabs only my home page shows?

When I open new tabs I have a blank page. I would like to have only my home page open in new tabs. How can i fix this?

• Why does Bing search act as home page when I open a NewTab?

Google is my normal home page. It opens when Firefox initializes.
But...when I open a new tab, Bing page opens, not Google. I went to Manage Search Engines and deleted Bing, but this has not helped.

• Why doesn't Firefox go to my Home page when I open a new tab? It used to.

It should at least be a selectable option

was there really a large selection of the population who preferred a useless blank page over the homepage they have chosen themselves??? And every solution I read suggests "middle clicking" the home button. I DON'T HAVE A MIDDLE BUTTON. Ctrl-clicking is ridiculous for something so simple, I prefer using CTRL T to open new tabs. I'm not saying it should be default but they could have at least made it an option.

• Have recently updated firefox. Previously, opening a new tab, cursor would be in google's search field, as google was my home page; now when I open new tab, cursor appears in url bar; this is bugging me a lot. How do I fix this setting?

cursor in URL bar when opening new tab; setting for this?

That issue can be caused by an extension that isn't working properly.

• When I open new tabs, how do I set my tabs to open to the same web page every time?

I have my home page set, but I don't see an option to set what site my tabs open with. I did have a website opening in my tabs, but it wasn't a change I made. According to one of the help articles, an extension may have changed what site kept appearing in new tabs. Now, my tabs are back to the eight tiles, but I'd like to set them to a specific website. How do I make this change to my tabs?

You will have to open the <b>about:config</b> page and set the new tab page by changing the value of the browser.newtab.url pref via the right-click context menu as stated in the KB article.
You can open the <b>about:config</b> page via the location/address bar.
You can accept the warning and click "I'll be careful" to continue.

• Why do you think you have to (a) add extensions I don't want, (b) change my home page, (c) move tool bars around, (d) lord knows what else, at every update?

Well, well, well. Here's update #32.0, without any idea what to expect. (Mozilla is turning into MicroSoft Light.)
So okay, let 'er rip. Now I have this thing called Nimbus, which I don't remember asking for, and I have yet to figure out how to get rid of it. Thanks for blessing me with more stuff I'm never going to use.
And gee, another new home page. Great. Is it not possible to leave my settings alone while you upgrade?
And looky looky, my toolbar has been rearranged. Joy!
I'm really sick of this.
Free and open source or not, if I wanted continuous screwing with my software, I'd've stayed with Explorer.
And let me put the "Reload Page" button where I want to put it, not where YOU think it belongs.

hello, firefox doesn't add any third party extensions during an update - this rather sounds like adware that is present on your system. please perform these steps:
# reset firefox (this will keep your bookmarks and passwords)
# afterwards go to the firefox menu ≡ > addons > extensions and in case there are still extensions listed there, disable them.
# finally run a full scan of your system with different security tools like the free version of malwarebytes and adwcleaner to make sure that adware isn't present in other places of your system as well.

• Don't want loopback for DB Home Page

Since I'm working on a project where I need to collaborate, I'd like others to be able to log into my DB Home Page. Is there some way to change this to my machine name instead of the loopback address, so they can log in & see what the db looks like?

Sorry, I see that my answer was in the 2 Day DBA Guide ...
Now I wonder if there's some way to restrict access to certain computers or a domain.
I realize this would not be the highest level of security, but would be something.

• I want firefox to open the home page when i open a new tab instead of a blank page.

whenever i open a new tab, it shows me a blank page. i want firefox to go to my home page as soon as i click on new tab button.

If you want to have a choice of blank or homepage in a new tab, there is a simple way around this.
Open the Customize window and put the Home button on toolbar if not already.
Use the middle-click (scroll wheel on mouse) on Home button to open your homepage in a new tab, whenever you want homepage to load in a new tab.

• When I open new tabs, they open to Pogo search powered by Yahoo search and not to my home page, so how do I fix that?

I downloaded a game from Pogo and since then, when I open a new tab, instead of going to my home page, it goes to a Yahoo search page. I can't figure out how to change that, but it is very annoying.

That issue can be caused by the Freeze.com NetAssistant extension
