Done but cant finish, DVD studio PRO wrecking my day. PLEASE HELP!

ok I am done, did a practice burn of one of my clips on the same settings. Project burned just fine and played in the DVD player. Earlier I was having problems it was only playing on my Mac.
NOW I get this message - The recording device reported the media error: Unknown device error. (0x0C, 0x00.)
I am done with a project and need it to get out today, PLEASE HELP please please please. I have stayed up all night jumping through hoops and so close to finishing.

As in you're burning from DVD studio? you might wanna build your format as a .img to your hd then using disk utility or toast, burn that to disk.... or it could just be your optical drive :/

SD DVD made in DVD studio pro doesn't work- please help!

Can't figure this problem out for the life of me - checked all forum posts available and nothing has helped. Hopefully you can help me solve this:
I made a SD DVD on a DVD-R (Verbatim 16x) with DVDSP 4.2.1 and it wont work on most DVD players - but - it DOES work on mac computers, Sony PS2, and some PCs with mpeg players.
The footage is 10 min. long (shot with DVCPRO HD 720p60) and imported as a .m2v video & .ac3 audio file using compressor (with the preset DVD Best Quality 90 minutes).
I had originally thought I made an HD DVD by mistake, but when I checked the file in DVDSP, all settings are marked SD; when opening the DVD in file manager, I also see that there are 2 bins VIDEO_TS & AUDIO_TS, so it can't be HD.
What am I doing wrong that it preventing this DVD from playing on most DVD players???? Please help!

In what way does it not work, is it not doing absolutely anything at all, is playback jumpy, something else?

I'm working with DVSP for 4 months, so everytime I don't know how to do something I use the documentation. As the times passes I almost don't need it so often.

PDF Search, but I think is not the best way to search because it shows too much useless results.

It is powerful and easy to use.

A way of editing the DVD Project Source Code. Let me explain: in some big projects I just need to change the Jump from "button_1" to "button_2", and to do that I need to find the button under my menus and choose it from a list. If I can just type "2" instead of "1" it will be faster and error-free.
Advancing in this idea, if I can open the entire link list as a Source Code in TextEdit, I can see all the buttons and link all of them without seeking for each on menus.
Today the Connections Tab helps a lot, but I still need to find the button un the menus. With 5 or 4 menus is easy, but sometimes I have 50...

Cant Open DVD Studio Pro

Ok so whenh I open the application it tries to open a previous project and it says it cant locate a file and wont open. How do you go about reseting DVD studio pro so it wont open a previous project right when you open it without having to have to project open, since it wont open. make sence?

Mine always opens an untitled project unless you double click a project file to open the application.
What version of DVDSP are you using?
Try deleting the preference file located in <home>/Library/Preferences/com.apple.dvdstudiopro.plist

Animations, Themes in DVD Studio Pro 2 Stopped Working! HELP!

Hey All,
I upgraded to 10.4 and did all the necessary updates, including pro app support. now DVD Studio Pro 2 is no longer displaying any type of Animation. Whether it is a movie file or Theme Animation, all I get is a black screen in preview, Canvas and Final Burn. It has totally hindered my ability to create any type of animated menus. I've checked DVDSP2's packages and all the movie files are there and work fine in QT but not in DVDSP2. I need some serious DVDSP2 genius to help!

I wasn't going to say anything, but, some people on these boards, (having simalar issues) had to wipe there drives and reinstall, before everything went back to normal.
I just didn't want to have you go that far, unless everything else failed and it's beginning to look that way.
I personally, when a major upgrade to the OS occurs, wipe my drive, just so there is no strange behavior with my application and gives me a chance get rid of all the unseen trash in the background, (that can cause problems) which are invisible to the user, (I do this about once a year.)

HELP! DVD Studio Pro crashes during build! HELP!

I have a HUGE problem. I need to release a DVD in an hour, but I can't create a build. DVDSP crashes soon after I launch the build.
I'm lost! I don't know what to do! Where should I look for a problem/bug in my project?

it was a hardware problem! from the manual:
Using Multiple Hard Disks
One way to speed up the build process is to have the project’s assets on a disk completely different from the one you are building to (not just a second partition of the same disk). Using different disks for your assets and your build allows each disk to focus on either reading or writing data, rather than jumping from one function to the other.
I was using the same disk, whem the project was small I had no problems, but with many menus (circa 75) and transitions (circa 150)...
so: LESSON #10, never use one disk!

Cant install all fo dvd studio pro....plz help

I cant install the full program only the windows, but none of the templates or transitions ro anything, I cant do anything in the program. When i go to install the templates it says i dont have the required hardware or my computer doesnt soppurt the installation method. If anyone has any suggestions, I would greatly appreciate them. Thanks in advance.

Since you meet the spec I'd think about something regarding the OS.
check for updates; in particular I think there was a firmware update.
Fix Disk Permissions-good habit
Move the DVDSp plist to the desktop, restart DVDSP (from the application, not a project).
check the Library/Application Support/DVDSP folder. This is where the templates need to reside. If they are there then DVDSP, the application, has lost this information. If they are not there then the install process has not worked completely.
Create another user on this machine with similar privilges. If this user is successful then there is some (?) bogus user prefeences. Not sure what to look for but a combination of bad preferences might be suspect.

DVD Studio Pro is being really buggy, help needed.

The main menu has been authored with the tracks included but the other day i ran into a problem. On the "writing lead-out" it just got stuck. Nothing occured for hours and the dvd burner kept making this weird noise. I was forced to force quit the program and retry. The second time it worked perfect. The thing is when the master DVD pops out it doesnt seem to want to play on certain DVD players. It is almost as if it is just encoded to a degree where cheap dvd players will not read the dvd. Is there a solution to this problem? Thank you in advance.

I believe the problem is just that, top deck players. We do encode using compressor. I authored it again but a lot differently. Sure to not use the same footage in the dropzone as in track 1. I feel if you drop too many of the same things while authoring that are included in Tracks that it some how gets confused at times. As for Toast i believe we will be getting that, just so we can burn at a much slower speed. I just did some tweaks and it is working fine once again. I found a compatability list of top deck players that helps alot. I thank you all for your time and help. Even little things you have said have helped set my mind in a new direction. HELP! DVD Studio pro shows a 3GB movie as 88GB!

I am realy in deep troubles!
Doing a (volentary) documentation about my city, the final doc movie will be shown at 7.januar 2006.
Since 1 1/2 year i am working on DVD projekt and nearly finished.Suddenly DVD Studio pro goes crazy.
I have a lot experiances with iMovie and iDVD but not with Production Suite (FCP + DVD Studio pro) .Maybe i have some misstakes done with FCP or DVD studio pro. But i can't see what and why because during this periode i have burened and check it on TV couple of times bevor.I could cry.
Just have upgraded to the newest Production Studio pro Version and same result.
Ok, one thing i have changed, and later the Problems stared!
In DVD Studio pro you can say how much motion you have.
small, meduim,often i guess (have it in german)
This setting worked and i could one time burn a DVD.
I can say the quality was better, better color and less noise or moire.
I changed it back, but no success.
I have seen in the forum discussion about audio which might
doe troubles and some advises using a.peak tool.
I have checked the aiff files and there are terrible big!
350 MB the biggest. I am totaly confiused because it worked bevor. Have checked the sequenzes from FCP which still works.
What would you suggest first befor i jump out of the window.

Finaly i have solved my problem!
The forum and the helpers did guide me in the right direction.It was not logicaly to me why it work again.
With FCP i could view the sequenz correct.
Then i used compressor-2 with DVD Best Quality, 90min 2 Pass 90min. Best motion. GOP closed.
The output i imported into DVDStudio pro.The import was about 4 minute while bevor it was a few seconds!
I did "clean up" DVDStudio Pro removoed the dvdstudio....plist file -> same result
I did start a new FCP projekt with a new Sequenz, imported all the work i have done befor (lot of work)
and used compressor again.
Then i imported with DVD Studio Pro the compressor files
(this time dolby ac3 audio file) and the import was done very quick.
I could burn the dvd (2.3gb instead of 88GB) and a first quick look this (very early) morning was good!
I chosed this way because i am not sure does working with multiple projekts (not sequenzes) can disturbes the other projekts if they use the same movie. So i will continue with a Projekt, finish them, and start the next from scratch. Hope have no problems like this again ...

24p footage shown as 29.97 in DVD Studio Pro

Hello,
I shot footage in DVCPRO HD codec with the HVX200 camera using the 24pN (native) recording format.
I edit everything in FCP 5 and when exporting to Compressor using the output DVD 90min best quality 16:9 everything is still OK. The video file (when opened in QT) shows that it's a 23.97 fps file as it should be.
BUT after importing it as asset in DVD Studio Pro 4, it shows as 29.97!! WHY? The video is smooth though, but why does it not show as 24p footage?
PS: everything is in NTSC (camera, FCP, DVD Studio Pro)

Do not know if you have DVD Demystified, but page 9-34 says what you are saying. (Wanted to double check to make sure I said it right and I was starting to get a bit lost here also. Too late at night LOL )
DVD-Video supports 525/60 (NTSC 29.97 interlaced fps) and 625/50 (PAL/SECAM 25 interlaced fps) In the case of 24 fps the MPEG Encoder adds repeat first field flags to perform 2-3 pulldown fo 60 displays, for PAL a 4% increase in speed.

You an probably find older copies of DVDSP on ebay. But the current version is available for purchase from apple only as part of the FC Suite.

Ripple Training DVD vs. DVD Studio Pro Book

I was wondering if anyone knows if the Ripple Training DVD for DVD Studio Pro goes into more detail than the Apple Pro Training Series book does. I have the book for version 3 of DVD SP. But I'm unsure if I'd get that much more out of purchasing the training DVD from Ripple Training.
Any thoughts about the differences between the two training methods?
PS. I realize this is sort of a goofy way to ask this question, but...

DVD Studio Pro is worlds more complicated than iDVD, and even though newer versions offer some of the ease-of-use of iDVD, there are many settings you'll have to worry about that just aren't an issue with iDVD. Furthermore, if you're used to AfterEffects, the timeline is probably going to cause you to approach DVD authoring in the same linear fashion as creating video effects, and that will only cause headaches in the future. Most importantly, your Flash/Director experience will probably leave you infinitely frustrated with the limitations of DVD when it comes to creating a "multimedia" interface, because with DVD it's all an illusion. Nothing is loaded into the player beforehand, so everything is a stream, not a routine running on computer hardware that can do several things at once. My best advice is to use iDVD until you need to move forward, or experiment with DVD Studio Pro on your own time until you feel confident enough to do real work with it.
The biggest point I'm trying to make is, to quote Yoda, "You must unlearn what you have learned."

Importing MPEG2's causes DVD studio pro 4 to crash

everytime I attempt to import an mpeg 2 into a studio pro project it crashes the program however other files like quicktimes, AIFF etc. import fine. I have tried trashing preferences and re-installing DVD studio pro to no avail. pls help!

Did you get to the latest pro app file?
If so, go into your library/receipts folder, and delete the proapp package in there, then re-run the installer for the latest file to make sure it gets installed fully.

If this still doesn't work, have a look through the Console logs to see if any clue is given as to why you are having this crash. If you find anything suspicious, post it here...

Slideshow transistions problem DVD Studio Pro

When I author a build from DVD Studio Pro 4 and view the slide show using the Apple DVD player I see a green rectangle on the bottom of each transition. No problem when checking it in DVD studio pro. Would appreciate any help, suggestions, etc. Lack of sleep and a deadline is not helping my thought process.

First, export the shots you want to use.
From there you can import directly to dvd studio pro and title them as a dvd slide show if you like. You can also do this with idvd.
The dvd slide show format is limited to 99 shots, though and has some other limitations, (transitions), as well. You can break these by turning the shots into a movie, using something like imovie or final cut pro. Both also support titling.
There are several stand alone programs for doing this too, including photo2movie, and still life, both of which have relatively low price tags.
Search the dvdsp or fcp forms for more on this. Also search for "ken burns effect", which you may want to consider if you do this much.
