Dont know the admin password, cant get into single user mode

I have recently bought a PowerMac G4 with a dual core 1.25GhZ processor on a car boot. I do not know the admin password, and i cant get in to single user mode. What to do?! Seems like it has Open Firmware Password Protection, what ever that is, and i have the discs and tried disabling it, but to do that you need the admin password. It's and endless loop! Help me please, i have no idea what to do now...

Disabling the Open Firmware Password
Open Firmware password protection can be bypassed if the user changes the physical memory configuration of the machine and then resets the PRAM three times (by holding down Command, Option, P, and R keys during system startup).
An Open Firmware password will provide some protection, however, it can be reset if a user has physical access to the machine and can change the physical memory configuration of the machine.

  • I dont know the admin password and i dont have a disc how do i bypass this

i need to access admin privlages but i dont have the password and i didnt recive the disc it came with how do i bypass this so i can become a admin?

It is best to get a disk. Ring an Apple store and they may be able to provide a replacement for your original disk.
The other benefit of owning a disk is it can be used to repair your hard drive.
Without a disk it is like driving a car without a spare. Most of the time you don't need it except for the time when you do, and then you are stranded.

  • If I lose the admin password to get into the GUI, how can I recover it?

I am stranded. I cannot log onto my acs server. It keeps bring a prompt," loin failed"

    hi,
if you have a Solution Engine (ACS SE)
you need the recovery cd to reset the admin account !!!

  • How to create Mavericks usb install disk without knowing the admin password

How can I create a Mavericks usb for a fresh install without knowing the admin password. (lost password)

I would agree with you if there was always an Internet connection available and the the Apple Servers were always in operation.  In those instances when this is not the case, a USB installation drive is good to have.  I speak from experience.
    Ciao.

I do not have a startup disk. I did try fsck (based on what I learned from your reply-thank you). This failed (fsck); here is the message:
    ** Checking catalog file.
        Invalid key length
    (4, 8198)
    ** Volume check failed.

I am sure this is an easy fix; I just have no clue how.

  • Boot mac mini server into single-user mode?

I've got a mac mini server (one of the ones with no optical drive) and I'm trying to boot it into single-user mode. I hit the power button and hold down the command (apple, splat) key and the 'S' key simultaneously ---- until it boots up to a login prompt rather than a black screen with white text and a unix command prompt...
Is there some magic different on this particular machine to get to single-user?

Hi, I wonder if anyone helped you out. I'm new here so here goes. I just bought a mac mini, but not the server. I had finished my new install and then I rebooted and got a black screen, since i have a wireless Apple keyboard, I cannot log into the computer by using commands, like Command-S. And Yes, you are using the right command, that hasn't changed.
Your problem may be the same as mine, are you using a wireless keyboard, because if you are, it seems that the Bluetooth doesn't have time to install its software while we are trying to log into the system. Thus, as we reboot, we are holding down they keys but that won't help us because the Bluetooth software doesn't have time to do its thing, in the background.
That is a huge problem because I don't have any other keyboard, but if you have access to a keyboard, get one and plug it into the back of your Mac mini and then you should be all set.
Does this make sense? Let me know if this helps. I have no idea what to do because now I have a brand new computer with a serious screen with the you must reboot your system in many languages, and when one gets this it is not a good sign.

  • How do I mount an external Firewire HD when booting into single user mode?

    Hi,
How can I mount an external Firewire Harddisk from the Darwin Console, once I have booted into single user mode?
I'm trying to make a backup of all my files and then re-install my iMac G5 since it doesn't start the GUI anymore and I haven't gotten any responses to my question here: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1104762&tstart=0
    Thanks,
    Torsten

ok, I executed the following commands:
    /sbin/fsck -fy
    /usr/libexec/registermach_bootstrapservers /etc/mach_init.d
    autodiskmount
    There were two messages:
    UniNEnet: Ethernet address 00:14:51:32:19:b8
    and
Aug 29 20:55:29 launchd: server 2e3b in bootstrap 1103 uid 0: "/usr/sbin/lookupd"[16]: exited abnormally: Hangup
I don't know whether this has anything to do with the commands I entered.
And since I don't know what the volume name for the external Firewire HD is, I typed
    ls -l /Volumes
but the only volume that is being listed there is my iMac's internal HD.
    What should I do next?
    Thx!

  • How to get to single user mode

I aquired an old power mac G4 with an old account with 10.3.9 and an old administrator account.  It seems that procedures to remove the account start in Single user mode.  The computer won't start when holding down system - s.  The drive clicks a few times but the display goes to sleep from no video signal.  So How can I get to single user mode when the usual way don't work?

The hard drive's directory may be dead, or it may have last been booted into Mac OS 9.  IF you are lucky, they did install Mac OS X on it, and that can be determined either through an Option key boot, or through an X key boot on a wired (not wireless) USB Apple compatible keyboard.   X key booting will only work if the X operating system is on the same partition, whereas Option key boot will reveal the Startup Manager, where you select the drive and hit the right pointing arrow for the drive partition that has Mac OS X.   Note this will not work on an original PCI PowerMac G4.   You may also need to replace the PRAM battery, a 1/2 AA 3.6V battery from Radio Shack before any boot sequence will work.  Once it boots into Mac OS X, Single User Mode should work.

  • Password protected EFI and Single User Mode

    Hello Community,
if I protect the EFI with a password than the single user mode is disabled. But I thought that I can enter the single user mode by entering the EFI password but no password prompt appears. Only the possibility to change the startup volume is accessible by a password prompt. Do I miss a possibility or is the only way to enter the single user mode by bypassing or disable the password by using the firmware password utility on the installation disk without violence?
BTW: I know the act of violence by changing the RAM configuration but this isn't the way I want to describe in the system documentation
Thx in advance & Bye Tom

Try holding the Option key while booting. It should ask for the password, then allow any boot options after you select the drive. If you boot from the install DVD (using the Option key and password), you can use the "Utilities" menu to disable the password, after choosing your language.

  • HT4113 my daughters ipad is still frozen, passcode locked, my ohter daughter decided to change it then forget it, so now what . I have done the whole connect to itunes, it keeps aksing for a password, i dont have it and i cant get into the pad at all. Hel

My daughters ipad mini is locked out. Dont ask, sister changed password, cnat remember now we are locked out. I have tried the hwole connect to itunes but nothing, it keeps telling u s we need to unlock the ipad. No Dah!!! Thats what I need help with. please?

If you have Find My iPhone enabled, you can use Remote Wipe to erase the contents of your device. If you have been using iCloud to back up, you may be able to restore the most recent backup to reset the passcode after the device has been erased.
Alternatively, place the device in recovery mode and restore it to erase the device:
Disconnect the USB cable from the device, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to shut down.
While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to the device. The device should turn on.
Continue holding the Home button until you see the Connect to iTunes screen.
iTunes will alert you that it has detected a device in recovery mode. Click OK, and then restore the device.

  • I dont know the administrator password on my GPS notebook

I dont know my administrator password

    Hi sloann76,
    Welcome to the HP forum!
Thank you for your inquiry, I will try my best to help you resolve this.
I  grasp that  you have forgotten your administrator password, and are no longer able to access your computer.
If you have another account with Administrator rights, you can log into it and change the password on your account.
I located this on the Microsoft forum that  may resolve your issue.  I tried it on a Windows 7 computer and once booted into safe mode, the password screen came up and it did not accept the password  you should see an option to reset password.  Here is a link to the answer from the Microsoft forum Forgot my Administrator Password to Windows XP.
Here is another answer from the Intel community, How to Reset Administrator Password on Locked Windows 8 Computer?
If this has nor resolved it , you will need to perform a recovery to factory   Performing an HP System Recovery (Windows 8).   If you do the factory restore you will loose any data not backed up. During the recovery proecess, you will see an option to backup your personal files. Restoring Files that were Backed Up Using HP Recovery Manager (Windows 8)
Please let me know the outcome.

Hello, I recently bought a refurbished macbook pro which serial no is C1******H2G. I can't open this coz I was not provided with any admin password. Point to note here I have not any operating system CD also. Now how can I unlock my macbook pro ??

Who did you purchase the MBP from.  They should have the password.
An early 2011 MBP probably came with Snow Leopard. Use the original OSX disks and reinstall 10.6.
There is a possibility that it came with Lion (10.7).  In that case boot the MBP holding the OPTION+COMMAND+R keys.  That should connect you to the Apple servers and install the original OSX.
    Ciao.

Connect the iOS device to your computer and restore via iTunes. Place the iPod in Recovery Mode if necessary to allow the restore.
If recovery mode does not work try DFU mode.

If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the iPod backup that iTunes makes.
