Have you tried deleting the book and re-downloading it, and seeing if you can then open it ?
If that doesn't work then another option is to try closing the iBooks app completely and seeing if the book works when you re-open the app : from the home screen (i.e. not with iBooks 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the iBooks app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
A third option is a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

Problems with opening iBA books after the recent upgrade.

How many folks have had problems opening .iba books after the recent upgrade??
I did ! I completed and delivered a free book which was No: 9 in series - all the others opened OK in iBA after the upgrade except this last one.
I read the forum, none of the offered solutions worked for me.
I contacted support and was eventually asked to upload to there server the original .iba file which I did a few days back.
Today I had a reply to advise they had found and corrected the probem and gave me server access info to download a revised file.
The problem turned out to be the "Intro Media" I had dropped an image and not a video, which I have done before without probelms.
Apple support have removed it and the book file opens OK.
I dont know if this will help others who had problems opening files in iBA after the update.
It does seem as though the delivery of content acceptance critera is getting tighter or maybe its my own fault for doding the requirements!

Its seems like the application load may have not completed properly or there were some issues.
Backup all the data on your device then follow the below articles.

hello good peolpe, i bought an ipad mini retina for books reading and i would like to know if there is a way i can open a book with different apps like i do on android device where you can use various apps to open differents books at the same time, i would like to also know if there is a way to do the same thing but with power point and word files, and how can i open them on my ipad and transfer them, thanks every one for their time

Currently you can't. Maybe in iOS 8 that will be released soon.

I downloaded and re-installed Adobe Digital Editions so that I could get books from the library and read them on my tablet. It is not working and my tablet cannot open the books??

What can I do? I am 68 y/o and not very computer literate. I put an micro SD card in my computer to copy the books (also some ebooks that I bought from a retailer) onto the SD card so that I could read it on my computer or my ereader by puting the card into the reader (tablet or whatever you want to call it).. HELP

Please follow the below steps and check:
1) Right click on the book in library that you want to copy from your computer. Click on the "Show File in Explorer".
2) Copy/Paste the book from this location to your SD card.
3) On your tablet open the book from your SD card in your ereader.
You need to make sure that you authorize your ereader with the same ID with which you authorized your computer. In case you do not remember which ID you used for authorizing your Digital Edition, click Help-> Authorization Information.

I have installed a trail version of FrameMaker 12 and cannot open the book and chapter files in FrameMaker 8

My colleague and I use FrameMaker 8 but I'm considering whether it would be a good idea to upgrade to FrameMaker 12. So today I installed a trail version of FrameMaker 12.
Before opening a book file in FM12, I copied it to another folder so I wouldn't mess up anything. Unfortunately, I forgot to copy the chapter files so I opened most of them from FM12. As soon as I found out about it, I copied them to the new folder, but too late.
Now I'm not able to open the original files from FM8 (and even worse, neither can my colleague). I read somewhere else, that I should save the book file in the .MIF format (I tried both 12 and 7.0) and then open it from FM8. I tried that, but I still cannot open the chapter files.
I get an error message saying: "Althoug xxx.fm appears to be a FrameMaker document, it can't be opened with this release of the product".
I didn't make any changes to the chapter files when I looked at them in FM 12.
What should I do? I case we decide not to upgrade, we will not be able to access this book which is a big problem. I already have some small changes that have to be made.

Back saving to MIF should work, but it’s probably faster to just retrieve a backup of the FM8 files & books and restore them over your botched FM12 versions. Then take a copy of that backup and put it on the trial machine to play away without impacting anything else.

did you use your sons Apple ID..? If so... those items are tied to that Apple ID.
If your issue is with the Authorization of your New Mac...
On your Computer... Open iTunes...
If you're using iTunes 11 click on the box icon in the top-left corner to see the " Show Menu Bar "
and from the Menu Bar select Store...
From the Store menu, choose Authorize This Computer.
When prompted, enter your Apple ID and password, then click Authorize.

Assuming you have these accounts set up in Mail, open preferences and under Accounts tab, edit the SMTP outgoing server list. Do you have a .mac address in the list? If so, delete it.
Are you using iCloud?
For the troubled account, select the correct SMTP server for that account in the box and check the box to use only that server with that account.

My iPad crashes every time I go to open a book that I purchased

I purchased a book from the Barnes and Noble Library. It opened in my Nook App, but I much prefer the iBooks app. I only have four books, and three of them work fine. (One of them is also a Nook book downloaded in a similar way and it works fine.) However, when I try to open this book, it goes to open and then goes back to my main screen. I've tried re-installing iBooks and reinstalling the book itself. Nothing I do seems to be working. I've been reading it in the Nook app, but would like to transfer it over to the iBooks app. Any idea on how to fix this?
P.S. My iPad is not jailbroken

Some books have DRM. Some do not.
You can tell if you view the books in iTunes. Look at the books in List view. In the "Kind" column, you can tell:
"Book" would mean a book without DRM which you loaded into iTunes.
"Purchased book" is a book you bought from the iTunes Store without DRM.
"Protected book" is a book you bought from the iTunes Store WITH DRM.

ADE Crashes opening library book from OneClickDigital (Mac OSX 10.9.5)

I'm new to ADE. Our local library started offering eBooks this past week via OneClickDigital.
eReader is ADE. I loaded 4.0 on my Mac and downloaded an eBook. ADE crashes every time I download a book or attempt to open the book.
After the crash, the book appears to be downloaded - I can even open the Mac Finder and see the pdf on my hard drive in Documents->Digital Editions.
I've tried various ways to open the book - double clicking, right-clicking the book icon and selecting read and selecting the book and using the File->Read menu. All of them result in a crash.
Any suggestions? I've seen recommendations to load earlier versions of ADE, but I don't know a legitimate source for that.

I can not open the book samples acquired in the iBooks Store on my MacBook Pro with the latest version of Mavericks, I can only open these samples on my ipad or iphone.

Hold both power on and home button together and ignore the red slider until you see the apple logo. Then let go of both buttons and wait for the phone to reset itself.

I cannot open downloaded books in iBook library. I put 2 books on tonight and went to open it but the pages are blank.
I tried with current books already in iBook that I could open before but they are all blank now too! Can anyone help please?

I was having this problem as well. I tried force quitting the app, deleting and re-downloading ibooks and nothing was helping. Finally I just decided to restore my iPad and start fresh with ibooks and that worked and I can now read books again. If you have the books loaded on to iTunes or you don't mind having to re-download them try restoring your iPad and see if that works for you also!
