Doom 3 universal patch on MBP

after i got my MBP i installed doom 3. to my stupidity, i opened to play it and it was laggy, forgetting it needed a universal patch.
i went and downloaded the patch and when i open it to install it everything locks up except the mouse. meaning if i music playing it stops, and all the windows i cannot click on.
i've tried to download it from different sites, and i've even let it sit there "frozen" thinking it was just going really slow for 15 mins.
i've been searching around and i can't find any similar lock ups.
what can i do to play doom 3?
thanks

hmm.. the only things like that i'm running are candybar to change icons, and uno to rid the aqua/brushed metal..
creating a new user could work.. i may try that..
but what i did was test if the patch worked on my other computer, and it did.
so i installed doom3 on there, patched it and burned the folder and copied it onto my MBP and it worked ;D
thanks for the suggestions..if something like this happens again i will know what to do d:

  • Jedi Academy, Universal patch

    Hi,
anyone can play with Jedi Academy from Aspyr with iMac G5 Core 2 DUO,
because with or withouth the Universal patch i can't. The unit always freeze at the begin.
Tryed to contact the Aspyr support but all what i do don't work.
    Thanks

    Very thanks for Your reply,
I played that game with G3 with only 192Mb of ram, then i played with a G5 PPC with only 1 Gb ram,
without problem, with full graphics options.
Aspyr just answered to me and tell what is not fully compatible with Leopard and the ATI video card.
from Aspyr:"Please keep in mind, that at this time, the game's full compatibility with Mac OS 10.5 (Leopard) is not guaranteed. ........ Again, I assure you that we are working hard with Apple to get these issues with the ATI video card and Leopard worked out."
In Apple discussions i just find if someone have tryed this old game for be shure is not fully compatible or if someone have some real issue. Did You try JA on iMac INTEL with Leopard ?
Anyway i'm shure must buy more Ram becouse i use Flash, Dreamweaver, Photoshop, Illustrator, Bridge, Portfolio, InDesign, Acrobat PRO, CorelPainter, Flash VideoEncoder, and all browser open Safari, Opera and other (for testing local the web site) and sometime listening music too with iTunes ... always all in the some time, but when i produce a pdf from InDesign the unit begin to go slow and i must to close Bridge what it look like the one want a lot of Ram but not like Photoshop. (can't close the lost one, can't work without) anyway i use Portfolio, is better and do not use a lot of ram. The Leopard finder is a disaster for b&w tiff image, i see all the image in this format with a trasparent background, so i can't see nothing when the image is in front of you, (this only for the image tag format b&w, but this is the format what we use for working when we use scanner and b&w illustration to aquire).
    Mirian sorry for my english
and Thanks a lot again for your help, if anybody didn't try JA on last unit and with Leopard, i will buy more Ram how you tell and then i'll be back to know you if this can resoulve or not to play that game.

  • Doom 3 custom reolution on the new iMac?!?!

I wanted to know if anyone here knows how to change the resolution of Doom 3 to fit the iMac? (in my case I want to change it to 1680 x 1050)
Any help is VERY much appreciated..

    Hello All!
After responding to this thread, I noticed that a couple of posters do not list intel iMacs on the "what system do you have?" line below their message.
This being a Core Duo iMac Discussion Group, I simply assumed that everyone posting here had Intel machines. That error means some of the suggestions I made are not necessarily appropriate.
If you are running the new version of Doom on a non-Intel Mac, you may have problems with the software that are NOT inherent to the upgrade or the game.
The Doom Universal Binary patch recodes part of the game to take advantage of Intel-specific chip features that improve performance on those CPUs.
In addition (possibly most important), the patched version takes advantage of lookahead features in the ATI video cards on the new iMacs that may or may not be available on your system.
SO--if you don't have an intel CPU, OR if your video board cannot take advantage of the lookahead option, OR if you have too little RAM or video memory, OR if you have an older video card, OR if you have a below 1.5GHz CPU, OR if you have an older version of OS X, you will have problems running at higher resolutions or with all the features switched on.
OTOH-you can probably have fun at lower resolutions and fewer features, so all is not lost!

  • Doom 3 + XFi + new driv

Did anyone play EAX4-patched Doom 3 with 2.5/2.8 X-Fi driver? I can play through the first level in EAX4 mode, but once the level is finished the game quits back to main menu with the "Error unloading data from OpenAL hardware buffer" message.

  • [MSI PRO MOD] At Doom's gate

Long ago i have this idea in my mind, but didn´t know how execute in a case mod. After several times thinking how to do it, i see the opportunity for this contest. I guess the image is obvious, but beyond that, i want to do a casemod based in doom universe, more exactly the "inferno" where the creatures live. For this reason i got material and images from doom I, II & III. I'm a big fan of the game and after know the news of new Doom something inside me revived, making me feel excited again. I hope you like it, the design has long time, and many modifications, so i could get, i hope, the best version of my casemod.
    My parts:
    - MSI z97 gaming 7
    - MSI GTX N460 cyclone
"At Doom's gate" is the first episode of Doom I, where all invasion begins. Is the first time we enter in the hangar and start shooting to demons coming from other dimension. Check to watch a casemod coming from the other dimension and possessed by demoniac flesh.

I means for those spikes and bones.
Real spikes and bones of course  haha, it is cold porcelain.
Time to paint, this time i do not use spray but paint brush, because i want some textures and details about terrain that spray paint can do.
The floor is still hot, and msi has its place! Airbrushing the floor to look like lava.

  • Question on buying MBP - opinion needed

I currently own a last generation PB (1.67G with 2G RAM) and was thinking if it would worth the $ to upgrade to MBP.
Since my PB is almost running out of capacity (only 15GB left, and it will get used up pretty quick)...also I have a feeling that web browsing performance will no where near a MBP even already I maxed out the RAM.
But, I also heard Leopard 10.5 will be released in October.
    Here're some of my Qs:
    1. shall I wait until that time and buy one with the 10.5 or get one now and upgrade it later?
    2. what's the difference between 2.33 and 2.4GHz besides the processor speed?
    3. if you own both PB 1.67 and a MBP (i.e. one w/2.33 or 2.4), do you see a huge difference in speed on web browsing?
    4. is there a software out there that works like carbon copy cloner for intel Mac's?
    5. last question, is there any way to boot a PPC-cloned OS 10.4 Tiger from MBP? For example, I cloned my PB's OS 10.4 Tiger to a bootable external firewire drive. Is it possible to boot up that drive from a MBP? If not, any solution?
    thanks

    1. Depends, if you can get by with what you have, then you'll save $129 bucks by waiting.
    2. Major difference is the 800 mhz FSB vs 667 mhz fsb, the santa rosa chipset (allows expansion to 4GB of memory) and the graphics chip, Nvidia 6800M GT vs. ati 1600.
On the 15" the backlight is led, on the 17" you get the option of a hi res screen.
    3. For universal applications, the MBP will blow away the PB. It has 2 cores giving it 2 processors. As far as web browsing, you probably will see a minor increase in response, but most of the performance of a web browser is limited by internet connection speed, not the computer.
    4. Carbon copy clone works for the intel macs.
    5. No, the PPC clone doesn't have the needed intel code. But you can use migration assistant to move all of your programs and data files over. It works very good. Also, the new MBP has some OS files that are needed from the original install. I tried to clone a 10.4.10 copy from a Macbook and it failed miserably on the MBP even though the system was 10.4.9 on the MBP.

  • MBP overheating causing body warping!

I have been experiencing some problems with my 10 month old 15" Macbook Pro. I have been aware of the computer heating up for the past couple months and I just thought it was a universal problem with MBP's. Howeever in the past week I just noticed that my screen no longer closes and locks. It is warped so that the screen no longer lays flat when shut. Also if you eyeball the side that the CD drive is on you can see that there is serious warping along the body. My only guess for this is the extreme overheating. In the past week the MBP has been acting up and I have to shut it off after about 2 hours of use to cool it off. I just got back from the Apple Store Genius bar to ask their opinion and they have never seen anything like this before. They listed a bunch of repairs they could try, but the bottom line is they would need my MBP for 48hours minimum. Which is impossible as I have Midterms coming up and I use it for my small business as well. I then got in touch with customer relations and they said they would not replace the computer without going through all of the repairs recommended by the Genius Bar.
Long story short, I am just wondering if anyone out there has experienced anything like this and if anyone has any suggestions.
I'm Screwed as it stands right now

I am sorry to have to say it, but they are lying.
The Apple Store has seen this before. It has been well documented.
They will try to say the issue is cosmetic.
A warped machine that does not close, and wobbles when you type, does not have a cosmetic problem. It has a manufacturing defect.
    Keep calling and complaining.
The machines started warping when Apple switched from Titanium to Aluminum enclosures.
I thought this problem had been fixed until I got my MacBook Pro less than a month ago, and discovered it was warping just a few days ago.

  • Radeon x1600 for gaming.

I recently installed Warcraft 3 on my MBP, my graphics card is a ATI Radeon x1600 and when I go to play the game the screen goes black then goes back to the desktop and tells me that Warcraft 3 closed. I checked out the support and it said something about not being able to support the menu face, and to maybe download update for Video Card BIOS and I went to ATI and there is nothing for x1600. There is 800 and the rest are about x1900. What can I do to fix my problem so I can play Warcraft 3.

Have you tried to download the universal patch for Warcraft III? I had the same problem with my MacMini before the patch came out.

After upgraded & patched my MBP at home to 10.10.x, I'm no longer able to connect to Y!IM via Adium X 1.5.10.  I have no problem doing so with my work-provided MBA running 10.9.x.  I use Dropbox to synchronize the Users/Default (sym-linked) so all the data/history/etc. files are synchronized so there's no chance of incorrect password.  Does anyone know if there's a compability issue between the latest release of Adium X and OS X 10.10.x?  Thank you.

You need to backup your iPhoto library and go to the App store and update to iPhoto '11 version 9.5 - a free upgrade if you own any version of iPhoto '11 which you do - version 9.2.3 is an oldr version of ihoto '11

  • Macbook Pro TV Tuner & Battery Management

Just wondering (and waiting for my MBP to arrive) if anyone knows a TV Tuner that is Universal for the MBP...I've been looking at the Miglia TVMini but I'm not sure if the software is Universal. Does anyone have this on their MBP? What's it like? How's the freeview reception? Any screenshots?
Another thing...been looking in the forum for info on how to manage the battery...with my current laptop I just take the laptop without the charger when I'm out and as soon as I get home I plug it in for about 7-8 hours most days. 2 years later and the battery doesn't last long at all. Does the charger on the MBP stop charging the MBP at 100%? Can you keep the charger in without ruining or reducing the life of the battery, and then take it out when you want?
    Thanks guys!

Elgato's eyeTV 1.8.5 will work under Rosetta and therefore in theory should work with your MBP.
They are working on a Universal version of eyeTV 2.0.
I use an eyeTV 410 with my PowerMac (and have used the DTT with my PowerBook).
If you have a decent aerial then you can get excellent reception, this is a screen shot of a film recorded from Channel 4.
Does the charger on the MBP
stop charging the MBP at 100%?
    Yes
    Can you keep the
charger in without ruining or reducing the life of
the battery, and then take it out when you want?
    Yes
However, just using a battery will cause the same symptoms you experience with your current laptop.

  • Intel-Mac question...

I have not yet used a new Intel based Mac yet. I have seen conflicting reports online about it's ability to run legacy OSX software, but no reports of OS9 Classic software. Does it run Classic, and if so, how well?
    iMac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.4)   I want a Quad Core G5 : )

Classic is no more with the Intel-based systems. There are mentionings that the program SheepShaver, http://www.gibix.net/projects/sheepshaver/ may allow you to emulate OS 9, but I haven't messed with that program enough myself to get it to work to say how effective it is. As far as OS X native software for the PPC models, they are emulated on the new machines using Rosetta. Some programs (ex. Microsoft Office) work, while others don't. Of the programs that you use, it's best to research and see if and how well the program works or see if there is a Universal patch or retail version of the software you want to use.
    Hope this helps.

  • Macbook shuts down completely instead of standby mode

    Hi
My mpb17 is running well with power adapter. Only with battery, there is a problem. I have changed the battery just few months ago (< 100battery cycles). Since Friday, the macbook shuts immediate down when the battery status came down from 100% to 30-20% without any problem nor warning message before. With shutting down immediate I mean that the power book shuts completely down during 2seconds. It does not go into the sleeping/standby mode then.
What should I do. The reinstallation of the battery was not helpful.

Hi, I got the same problem, I bought my MBP just 15 days ago, I'm a mac user for nearly 12 years and I just need to say this, Every time Apple sell worse and worse hardware I remember the PowerMacs (601 to G5 beatiful machines and work flawlessly) and the quality of their products goes down, I can't believe it.
I was very doubtful about to upgrade my systems, I still got an ibook G4 12", I think the best and noblest laptop ever, I teach Maya on it (believe or not) and never got any crash or any issue. Common Apple you need to make better products!!
Sorry I'm very upset about this, Even the Mac Pro have a lot of Bugs, like the audio issue. I think Apple Mess up with all this transition to intel, Hope Leopard can fix all about this. Halo Universal ***** on my MBP, on My Dual G5 (upgraded to 7800GS Hacked PC Card) runs extremely well. I'm an Apple Trainer too and I got a lot of problems trying to run my Mac Pro as well as My G5, I spent a lot of money to got garbage functionality, I'm very used to get a excelent quality as Apple Used to bring to us, but this Intel machines... We becoming a PC users... that's so Bad.

  • SMB connection speeds

I upgrade to Snow Leopard some time back. Immediately upon upgrading, I experienced enormous slow downs when trying to connect to my network storage space on my department's servers. I am based at a university with 15 mbps down and 5 mbps up as typical transfer speeds.
Now, upon connecting to my network share, it often takes upwards of 30 seconds just to open a folder, and transferring 35 MB of files took over 5 minutes.
Any ideas on how to resolve this?
    Thanks...

    Hey,
Have the exact same problem, can add to the matter that I tried to access the same shares with muCommander (3rd party Finder alternative) and saw tremendous speed improvements.
Don't want to have to rely on 3rd party applications for file handling though, and would appreciate any help to speed up the finder when accessing smb shares
sorry I couldn't help you but hope someone out there can
    Thanks
