Doom3 EAX 4.0 with X-Fi, t

hello,
sorry my english is very bad, i?m coming from germany but i try it
i will buy the x-fi soundcard when it'ss available. now i have a audigy 2 zs soundcard and i?m playing doom3 with the eax 4 patch from activision. but there are many problems (with beta drivers and the latest offical driver?s, i tried with the normal and beta driver, all right installed), pc restart?s, soundbugs, overriden sounds (mastervolume and wave and bass are on down level but i have overriden sounds sometimes), reverse channels (front right sounds are on back right for example) and any more. this cost me much patience.
i hope this will be fixed with the drivers from the x-fi soundcard. my question to you: can i play doom3 with the patch from activision and the normal drivers from my new x-fi soundcard well? or can this make problems with a new soundcard, because the patch from activision was only for audigy2/4
i hope you can me help
thanks and sorry f?r my bad english!
EDIT: i have logitech z-5550 5. speakers on my audigyMessage Edited by nightboy8 on 08-3-2005 05:0 PM

Doom3's EAX needs latest beta driver, in order to work with a Audigy soundcard. If not using latest beta driver, you need to disable EAX in Doom3. Or else you get sound errors.
X-FI cards should work with Doom3 EAX out of the box!

  • Prey: EAX not working with Audigy 2

I can't play Prey (the game, not the demo) with EAX enabled, with my Audigy 2 ZS.
At the Audio options Menu it says I need to update OpenAL, but I have already updated to last version available: .9.
    <BLOCKQUOTE dir=ltr>
    OpenAL Version .9.
The OpenAL Installer for Windows will install the OpenAL . library, enabling support for core OpenAL operations as well as extensions such as EAX and EFX. The installer supports both 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Windows.
    Version note -- Installs OpenAL32.dll version 6.4.357.3 and wrap_oal.dll version 2.0.8.0.
    [/quote]
On all other games (FEAR, FarCry, Half-Life 2, etc. ...all last games) EAX is working fine.

?should I use last SBAX_LB_2_08_0004 instead?

<Comfirmed: the solution is to install last official drivers: SBAX_LB_2_08_0004 and then be sure you still have the last OpenAL or reinstall it (I had to)
I had install the Beta drivers instead of the last drivers cause they said they were specifically designed for games and I have the games installed in a separate partition, just for games, on a multiboot system
why have they the Beta drivers at Creative downloads if the new official ones would be better?
    anyway, thanks folks

  • Problems with game support of EAX Advanced HD with the Live! 24-b

Everything about the card has worked as expected except for the EAX Advanced HD game support, which this card is specifically supposed to feature. As I understand it, that's the whole point of getting this particular Li've! card in the first place.
I have all drivers and software installed cleanly and correctly and up to date. Again, I have zero problems outside of games. So far now, I have encountered three games that are failing to recognize my card's Advanced HD support. Those games are F.E.A.R., Quake 4, and Doom 3 (and yes, all pertaining games are also patched and up to date). I have however found at least one game that is properly recognizing my card's feature support of the Advanced HD, and that is Thief: Deadly Shadows, though it still fails to support Eax
Multiple Environments, though I admit I'm not certain the Li've! 24-bit supports that feature (perhaps someone could clarify?).
Another point of question is this card's support of OpenAL. I was under the impression that if a card supported Advanced HD it would also support OpenAL. Can someone clarify? If so, Quake 4 is also failing to recognize the Li've! 24-bit's support for OpenAL (the game gives a specific warning message notifying this). I don't know for sure about F.E.A.R., but I would assume it's the same case there. On this subject, I'll mention that I've also already made sure that the OpenAL library is properly installed on my system (openal32.dll).
Can something be done about this? The whole purpose and gimmick to purchasing a Li've! 24-bit instead of a normal Li've! is mainly to get the Eax Advanced HD support. But if games aren't going to recognize its feature support, what's the point?

Are you using the 2005 beta driver set or the 2003ish non-beta drivers?

  • Creative and EAX technology

I canno't find any sound cards other then creativ's that support EAX 3 Advenced HD or higher. All Turtle Beach, Fortissmo and other soun cards I found have at most EAX 2.0.
Do you guys know of a sound card that support EAX above 2.0 AND is NOT a creative product?
    Please respond... Thank you

No. Creative has that market cornered. Unless a company were to pay for the EAX licensing for 3-4-5 (EAX). I know it really does blow too. While like the Audigy series it's not healthy to not have competition because it lowers the overall quality and future outlook of PC soundcards as whole ... IMHO. I wish nVIDA had continued Soundstorm technology but they didn't. The most that we could hope for right now would be better implementations of onboard sound (for gaming) though you are still limited to to EAX and 2, but just like the SB Li've 24 bit it's done in software - so there is a huge CPU hit when you enable EAX in games with onboard sound.Message Edited by Wolfen on -0-2005 09:58 AM

  • What do I need to make 32bit games play on x86-64 with intel gm965?

I have been trying to get a bunch of 32bit games to play on x86-64 with no luck.
Ive tried quake4, prey, and now doom3 and all seem to have the same issues. They start to work and the screen goes black, then it just goes right back to the desktop.
I have installed the entire lib32 group, and still no luck.  I even tried install lib32-intel-dri from aur but still no luck.
Do I still use lib32-nvidia-utils with an intel chipset, because thats what gets installed by default when i install the lib32 group?
Here is the output from doom3 (quake4, and prey had a very similar output where they all said idRenderSystem::Shutdown() but I already removed the packages out of frustration so I dont have the outputs from them, Im pretty sure its probably the same exact problem with all of them though)

Dump lib32, get a 32-bit chroot, and run with schroot -p "your game"
Within your chroot you'd need to have the intel drivers installed in a version exactly matching your main system's. It takes a bit more HD space (less than 1 GB), but you get a much easier system since you're using the packages maintained in the repos by devs/TUs instead of lib32 packages maintained (primarily) by volunteers for their own specific system.

  • EAX on players or operating system without games in Win 7

Can I turn on EAX in music or videoplayers or at the usual time with no games but on Win 7?
In Win XP it was possible with the aid of a tool but in Win 7 no. Without EAX sounds like with worst quality as a bad sound card and would like to include the full sound quality with EAX anytime and without games, or in music or videoplayers. Is there a utility for this ?

Win 7 64 bit, i am install console launcher and fully work on Win 7 64bit!
I needto activate theEAXwithout thegamein normal modewithout anygames orenablethe player

  • Something about EAX i discovered 2d

Ok, so you have a game that uses EAX but you dont here reverb.
Well I have BF2 and hear no reverb, well that is until I uped the volume a bit ( well a lot in fact ) and there it was. It was very suttle but was there. I got a slight reverb effect in a hanger, I walked out side and no reverb.
So it would seem that EAX works, its just not over the top like some other games that use it.
Also, EAX works best with 5. and have it cranked up, louder the better.
I just thought I would mention this

Well you are right. As Battlefield is mainly an open game you will not hear the effects you hear in other closed-enviroment games.
But I have been playing Battlefield 2 also, without any problem and I think i can tell EAX is functioning from the sounds the bullets make.
I also did a trick I recently read on 3dss.com. Most OpenAL games ship with a DS3D wrapper, because only NVIDIA and Creative have OpenAL drivers (The ct_oal.dll file for the Audigys). So I changed the BF2OpenAL.dll file which comes with the game to the latest OpenAL32.dll available from Creative's Developer website. (I renamed the OpenAL32.dll to BF2OpenAL.dll). The original BF2OpenAL.dll is actually an older version of the wrap_oal.dll file. So you could also update the wrapper if your soundcard does not have OpenAL drivers.
Now for me it didn't change anything. I don't know if the FPS changed sligtly as I have no idea on how to check that. But the sounds are all working fine and feel better in knowing that I am using the theoretically best way my soundcard supports

  • New Audigy Beta Drivers did they add EAX 4.0 to an Audigy 1 Platinum

    Hello,
does the new Audigy Beta Drivers add EAX 4.0 Support to an Audigy Platinum ?
    Greetings Picard007

Audigy (hardware base one) supports EAX3 (EAX Advanced HD) hardware. Audigy2 suports EAX4 hardware. EAX4 is supported with latest OpenAL drivers on compatible hardware.
    More: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Environ...dio_extensions
    Quote:
EAX has nothing to do with actual 3D audio positioning. Positioning is done by Microsoft's DirectSound3D API. An alternati've to DirectSound3D, called Open Audio Library (OpenAL), surfaced in 2003 in several titles. OpenAL allows direct hardware acceleration of audio, like DirectSound, including EAX. As of 2006, the API has been used in many popular titles including Doom 3 and Prey. These games support EAX 4.0 if audio hardware with an OpenAL-supporting driver is present.
Most releases of EAX versions coincide with increases in the number of simultaneous voices processible in hardware by the audio processor: the original EAX .0 supports 8 voices, EAX 2.0 allows 32 (Li've!), EAX Advanced HD (EAX 3.0) supports 64 (Audigy), EAX 4.0 again supports 64 (Audigy 2), and EAX 5.0 allows 28 voices (and up to 4 effects applied to each) (X-Fi).

  • SB Xi-Fi gaming - x64 vista - EAX console software / "what u hear" ?

    Greets,
I'm looking for the software that installs the EAX console, along with the "what u hear" input/recording options. I have the original driver installation cd - but for XP 32bit only, and I'm running vista64 currently. In the past, I downloaded this off the product support page, but the recent drivers I found there are driver only, and some watered-down options software.
The package I'm looking for included 3-5 pieces of software, of which the EAX console was one. Creative WAV studio was another. I don't recall the others.
Namely, I'm trying to find the components that allow me to record "what u hear" speaker output, as I hear it, and additionally reroute speaker output as line-in/mic input.
The BadBoy iso backup links don't resolve any more, not sure where else to find these.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
The EAX Console is something that's bundled in Audigy cards.
Which X-Fi card do you have exactly, SB X-Fi XtremeGamer?

  • Eax enabled or not in Battlefiel

I have the X-Fi-Fatalty, should I enable eax in the game, or just select the X-Fi setting without eax enabled ?

with EAX...it should actually show as EAX Advanced HD I think when you're using an X-fi.

  • Force 2 Speaker Sound Mode even with 4

I'm using a Creative Soundblaster Li've! Value and Windows XP Professional. Drivers are up to date, checked it with the update Acti'veX Applet on the Creative website.
Is there any way to get the EAX Chip working only in 2.0 Speaker mode when calculating positional audio?
In my case a Headset is installed in Microphone In and the first Sound Out. In 4.0 that would be the front speakers.
My PC speakers are installed in the second Sound Out which would be the rear speakers in 4.0.
The problem is, i don't always want to play EAX powered games with my Headset and i don't want to crouch behind my pc to switch Headset and speakers everytime i want to play with my speakers. Won't be that good for the hardware too. Is there any way to say: "Pretend that there are only two speakers and send the same sound to both outputs?" So i won't get any strange positional audio. Or is there a way to switch the 2 speaker mode to the second Sound Output, so only Headphone setting would use the first output or vice versa?
If i remind correctly the sound settings are in the registry, would it be enough to change an entry there? Is that even possible?

    No idea yet?

  • SB Live 24.bit EAX ADVANCE HD, upto 96KHz

I just installed SB Li've 24 bit and it sounds better than 6 bit version.
But I wonder why Creative print on the box that it support "Realistic EAX ADVANCE HD" while a test with "Rightmark 3D Sound" showing EAX4 Advanced HD is not available. It can only support upto EAX3. Is this a marketing cheat ?
I also saw Cirrus Logic CS4382 8-channel DAC used in this Li've 24Bit that actually support upto 92KHz sampling rates but Creative limit the speed to only 96KHz. This is quite a pity, hopefully the upgrade version of driver could enable 92KHz and also the EAX4 features in the future. Competitors like Chaintech, M-Audio has started to sell low cost 24bit/92KHz like AV70 for quite sometime, Creative should not be too far behind...

    Santoch,
EAX Advanced HD = EAX 3 (The EAX that was with the original Audigy card).
EAX 4 Cards usually state that they are EAX 4.0 Advanced HD, unless they were later upgraded using a driver patch like the Audigy 2 and 2 ZS. The Li've! 24bit is capable of EAX Advanced HD.

  • Creative Audio Console and EAX question.

I have the mode set to Game mode and my speakers set to 5.. There is an EAX tab. Do I need to check the EAX box to get EAX sounds in games or is that checkbox for something else, like EAX sound effects with music or the mic?

    Yes.

  • MSI K8T Neo2 F 939 pin, any known video or other driver issues?

Using a MSI K8T Neo2 F, AMD 64 3500+ winchestor, 1gb DDR400 3200 memory, New WD 740GD SATA HDD, ATI 9800 GT Pro 256 videocard. Fresh XP Pro SP2 install with all the update, latest Via 4 in 1s.
Seems like my problems began when I upgraded video drivers to either Cat 4.9s or 5.1s (ATI Radeon 9800 GT Pro 256) in order to get Doom3 running as it wouldn't run on the v 3.4 drivers that came on the cd-rom with the videocard.
HL2 would play fine with those old drivers. After upgrading to newer drivers, HL2 and Doom 3 (which now at least plays) won't play for more than 5 minutes yet other games will. The same videocard (perhaps 3 months old now) with cat 4.9 drivers ran perfectly in my old system so I know the videocard's still OK.
I can use a restore point prior to installing the newer drivers BUT that doesn't solve the problem as to why I can't use the newer drivers.
I've heard where some have problems with XP SP2 vs SP1. Anyone here have opinions on that?
I have spare HDDs so I can use one with another fresh XP install, even try just SP1 if that'd matter? Doing that would eliminate hardware as being an issue.
It's now not just games either, it'll crash doing Turbotax and other (not demanding) times when not gaming. Games put alot of demand on any system.
Have also tryed another PSU, now an Antec Truepower 430W vs a cheaper brand 550W. Not heat related as I've tryed this with a house fan blowing on high directly at the mobo, cpu side (cover's off).
I've been trying to solve this for about a month now and it's very annoying.
I ran Memtest for 8 hours last night, no errors so the memory's OK. I'm now running another test program called Prime95 via advice from someone at Anandtech.com. http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview.aspx?catid=32&threadid=1513208
If ANYONE here has seen anything like this relating to this motherboard (which I suspect might be a problem?), please share your thoughts.
                   Thanks

Can you explain where I'll find "VPU recover (adapter settings)"? In display settings or ATIs cat. control center, guessing? I'm at work now but will check that soon.
      AGP fast-write has been off.
As for going back to older video drivers, it did seem OK with the old Cat. v3.4 drivers that came on the videocards driver cd-rom and played HL2 fine with those drivers HOWEVER, Doom3 doesn't run with those older drivers and needs the newer drivers to function.
When it crashes, the screen usually goes to black (not BSOD). Sometimes it'll just freeze with skipping sound for a few seconds before going black, sometimes it'll reboot but usually I just reboot it. Can't 3 finger solute to task manager or Esc out of it either.
