Dora the Explorer Game - Screen is black

hi! just bought the game, Dora the Explorer: Animal Adventure, yesterday at the Apple Store. my G4 meets all the system requirements on the package. i asked the girl at the Apple Store if it would run on my system (explained my setup) and she told it should run just fine.
the product installed without a problem. however, when we run the game, i get a black screen. i can hear the sound just fine, but the screen is black! i've tried setting the Display Settings at all different settings, but no luck.
i have no idea what's up!
MacSoft's website doesn't list the game in their inventory, the manual has no troubleshooting whatsoever, and minimal setup guidelines. Apple won't assist and said that i need to deal with the manufacturer.
i'm just really frustrated and my kids are very sad. they just wanted to play their new game.
any thoughts on this?? thanks!

just a guess on my part, as I don't have the game....but.....
I know that with alot of games, when starting up the game while holding the option key, you should be able to bring up its control panel, and control some of the default settings of the game. I wonder if opening up its control panel would help to adjust these.
Sorry if you have already tried this with no luck.
If not it might help to post what the settings that are shown in the control panel settings and someone with the game and a similar system config might be able to suggest some troubleshooting.
I'd also look for its .plist file (preference file), which should be found in your ~/Library/Preferences/com.DoraExplorer (?).plist and try trashing that and then try restarting the game. Don't delete the file until you see that a new one has been rebuilt. If all seems well go ahead and delete the .plist.

Dora the Explorer is causing trouble!

I've had Dora the Explorer Animal Adventures loaded on our iMac for about a year. Lately, I've noticed that when I reboot or shut down and start up the computer, the Dora game auto launches. I would like to stop this. It has been doing it for about a week. The manufacturer doesn't support it very well.
I've done the following:
Repaired permissions
Uninstalled the game, then reinstalled it
Trashed the Dora .plist
Updated to 10.4.7
If anyone can help, I would appreciate it. I'm also emailing the macsoft people. The game isn't listed in their support page.

Have you tried the following:
Log in to the account the Dora keeps auto-loading.
Now, follow these steps:
1. Go to Apple Menu > System Preferences >Accounts
2. Select the account that is auto-loading Dora.
3. Click on the tab "Login Items". Do you see Dora listed as an item that is auto-loading? If so, select Dora and then below, select on the "-" (minus) sign. That should remove Dora from auto-loading.
Hope this solves the problems.

I think what may be your main issue here is that the 2011
server has the Intel integrated HD3000 and is is struggling
to run both a Thuderbolt display and a second monitor.
When looking at specs for Thunderbolt Display, it is stated
that the 2011 Mini Server can only support one. Adding that
Dell monitor with 1920x1200 display may just be too many
pixels for the HD3000 to handle.
You may want to try setting the Dell to a lower resolution
to test the theory to see what happens. It is however,
possible that any additional monitor when using the Thunderbolt
display may over tax the HD3000 graphics.
FWIW personally, I have been running a 2011 Mini Server w/ Thunderbolt
display for almost a year now without any issues. However, I don't
use a second monitor.

I have a playstation3 (a fat one) and it won't play any games.
It was playing games about a week ago but it was very slow. Then the other day it stopped playing them all together.
Blu-Ray dvds work fine. As does cd's.
I tried safe mode, restored file system. Restored the whole PlayStation. I wiped everything and it still didn't work.
So I bought a new hard drive and installed it with new software I downloaded.
The home screen works and it will recognise the disc but when I press start it has a loading timer in the corner for a minute then just goes black. I've spent $80 on a new hard drive and I'm frustrated it's not working. Any ideas?

Help me!Sounds like your ps3 has sadly passed. errors like this happen to the older machines, if it was just you disc based games that were not working id say it was the disc drive but as its all your games its most likely a gpu issue. i would avoid spending more money on repairs and invest in a new unit.

On the Mac......
Open up Macintosh HD > Applicatons > Utilities > AirPort Utility
Click on the Time Capsule icon, then click Edit in the small window that appears
Click the Network tab at the top of the next window
Change the setting for Router Mode from the current DHCP and NAT to read Off (Bridge Mode), then click Update at the lower right of the window, and wait a full minute for the Time Capsule to restart to a green light.
Then.....very important
Power off the Time Capsule and your Arris modem/router for a few minutes
Start up the Arris first, and let it run a few minutes by itself
Start up the Time Capsule next the same way
Your network will now be correct, and your printing capabilities will improve.
If Time Machine backups do not occur now, post back and we will tackle that next.

Dvd player is playing the sound of the movie but screen is black

Hello!
When I put a CD is put in it starts like usual but the picture never comes up. I can hear the sound of the movie and it plays but I cannot see anything. I restarted and it worked for a minute but when I went into safari for a second and came back the picture was gone again. I tried multiple movies to make sure it wasn't just the disk but still no picture. Any advice before I have to travel to take it in?

Screen goes black.....I've tried everything!!! what's the problem???

went to verizon store (which turned out to be a "reseller store"...more on that later) for my "new every two" upgrade.....guy told me about the new samsung fascinate....he even told me i would actually be the first person to buy one from him.......probably after a week after purchasing the phone, i noticed that my screen would on occasion go black, and i could not get it to "wake up". the phone is still on.....when i touch the bottom icons, they light up white.....phone definitely still on.....phone can ring, and i can even answer it by sliding the puzzle piece in place (screen stays black, i just know where the piece is).
i took it to the store where i purchased it....same guy who sold me the phone says it is almost definitely from some sort of app and i should try deleting all my apps.....i told him i had searched the internet looking for some answers, and there were a few known issues with samsung fascinate blank screens......he said to delete the apps and see what happens. so like an idiot, i left hoping he would be correct. well i deleted all my apps when i got home.....didn't make a difference....still had the same problem.
a day or two later, i was near a regular verizon retailer.....went to tech specialist.....as i was with him, the phone had the "black screen of death".....he was puzzled by it.....he looked it up on the computer and he told me that it was a "known issue" that verizon was aware of. i then asked him if i could swap the phone for another phone as it was still within 30 days of my purchase.....he said he could not do that since i bought from a "reseller".....the official verizon stores would not honor the return of phones purchased from resellers and that i would have to go back through the reseller (this was frustrating news) he told me all about official verizon stores vs. the reseller stores.....he told me that the official verizon stores always have service technicians. i had assumed that since the store where i purchased the phone said verizon all over the front and even had verizon flags flying out front that it was a verizon store.....turns out it wasn't quite the same. the verizon tech also said that even if i had purchased the phone from the official retailer, they would NOT swap it with a new fascinate since it was a known issue. i would have to get something else.
after leaving the official verizon store, i went straight to the other store......told the salesman the whole story......he reset the phone for me. as i'm on the way home after the fresh reset....guess what.....same problem.....black screen of death.
so here i am again......{word filter avoidance}
is wrong with my phone? aside from the black screen, i really do like the phone, but at this point, i don't know what the problem is and my new phone is worthless. i'm heading back to the reseller again (for the third time now) and i guess i'll try to get another phone......i really like the fantasy, but i have no faith in it.
i have reset the phone 3 times now myself, i actually just did it the third time just before this post. i reset the phone, and screen went black within just a few minutes....can't get it back. phone is on.....i can hear a call and texts......what could the problem be????? i've tried everything noah suggested.....charger in and out....remove battery.....i've done all that....1,000 times. when the phone does actually wake up, it seems to be completely random as to when it happens.....there's NOTHING i can do to wake it up, and there's NOTHING i can do to stop it from crashing out.
PLEASE HELP!!!! i've removed battery.....reset.....removed all apps.....put on and off of charger.....my next move is to smash this {word filter avoidance}

ps - i've had a verizon cell phone for 16 years....i've never had a problem like this with a brand new phone. i hate to say it, but fascinate owners BEWARE. i can say with 100% certainty that i did not damage this phone.....and i did download some apps, but not that many, and they were all very highly rated and recommended....this should not have happened.
and also, i'm sure there are some great resellers out there, but from what the official verizon guy told me, you are definitely better off buying directly from verizon.

If you have not done a factory reset on the device, I recommend doing a complete factory reset.
Factory Reset - Warning this will reset device back to original factory settings.
This method will not erase any MDN/MIN information
Turn off the phone
Press Power + Volume Up/Down at the same time and hold until display will show a triage android screen
Display will show:
Reboot system Now
Apply sdcard:update.zip
Wipe Data/Factory Reset
Wipe Cache Partition
Use VOL Down key to scroll down to "Wipe Data/Factory Reset", press home icon to select option and wipe device.
Display shows "All user data will be wiped out", press VOLUME Up to continue or VOLUME Down to exit.
Press Volume Up
Press Home to select "Reset System Now" - device will reboot
If the problem persist I recommend having a store technician take a look at the device.

Why is the Bitlocker PIN screen sometime blue and sometimes black?

I am using Bitlocker on a Windows 8.0 laptop. I have noticed that sometimes when I boot up, the Bitlocker PIN screen has a blue background with white text and a white, full rectangle box to type the PIN in. Yet other times the Bitlocker PIN screen is black
with white text and the "box" to type the PIN in is just a blank space framed by braces.
This is not necessarily a problem since in either case I can put in my PIN and everything works correctly, I just want to know why are there two fundamentally different Bitlocker PIN screens and what causes one to appear instead of the other?

By the way, when I booted up today, I got the normal Blue BitLocker screen. I have noticed that if I restart the computer from Windows I always get the black screen, but on a fresh/cold boot it seems random which one I get.
Ok, I see the screen now, it mostly seems a fast boot causes this issue. Since the screen image depends on the behavior you shutdown the PC: "Restart" or fresh/cold boot. As a test, I suggest you disable the fast boot feature in Windows8 and
check if it is the culprit.
Type "powser button" in the search charm bar, then click "Change what the power buttons do", Untick the "Turn on fast startup (enabled)"
Check whether the screen remains black screen.

If you want some advice from a parent who has a 5yr old, a 3yr old and a 1yr old using Ipads... Keep them off the Youtube stuff.. It has caused more problems for me than anything you would believe..
From issues with the Ipads... finding they have gone from Dora the Explorer vidoes to cartoons of characters called poopman... and the biggest problem.. I think the overdose of Ipad usage has ruined my kids from doing what regular kids should be doing.. On xmas they opened all their gifts, then just went back to the ipads.. I thought Candyland and Chutes and Ladders would be a big change.. Forget it.. They need rehab from Ipad..

Crashing when I enter the Explorer

Got my upgrade yesterday see specs below. Installation went OK. I have managed to flash the BIOS to 9.1. Right now running memtest on RAM, seems to check out OK. BUT...
3 times out of 4 when I´ve tried using WindowsKey + E to enter the explorer, I get a black screen. System reboots by itself. This problem seems very basic but is brand new to me.
Any thoughts or tips would be greatly appreciated!

My iphone's screen went black and now it won't stop vibrating..

My iPhone's battery was at 20% and I tried calling my fiance and the phone's screen went black. When I tried turning it on/off, it starting vibrating out of control, and it still is. I tried plugging it in but iTunes can't detect it. Help!!

This happens very rarelly but when it does its always at a bad time. I am working on some things and all of the sudden my screen goes black and there's nothing I can do. I have to hold down the power button until it shuts down then I start it up again. WHATS GOING ON??!!

I encountered the same phenomenon that Michael mentioned in the last post. First, my computer screen would go black for just a few seconds. For me this would always happen when my screensaver pictures were just about to turn off and put the computer to sleep. When I'd try to bring the computer screen back up by moving the mouse or tapping the space bar, it was like a struggle for the computer to come back to life, and I'd have a black screen for a few seconds, hearing the drive revving up, but no picture and no glowing sleep light (by the way, I have a flat screen G5).
Then, last night, instead of just a few seconds, the computer went motionless for hours. Again, this happened just as I was trying to bring the computer screen back up after it was in the screensaver mode and moving on to the sleep mode. The computer would not respond to any keyboard command, but the mouse was still awake and glowing red. The power button on the back of my G5 was non-responsive. I read all of the posts here on the Apple forum (by using my laptop), panicked, and thought, "forget this". Said a little prayer, unplugged the Mac from the wall, waited a minute, and then plugged it back in. Miraculously, I pressed the power button and the computer started right up normally, with the happy Mac sound and all. I didn't even lose any data (luckily, I back up regularly to discs).
The first thing I decided to do, after reading all of the posts on this forum on what seems to be a big problem, was to go to my system preferences and opt to never have my computer go to sleep again. I'm only leting the screensaver start up after an hour away from my computer (which is very unlikely--I usually shut it down after 30 minutes use). My thought is that this is some bug that occurs when the computer is transitioning to sleep mode, and again, I came up with this theory by reading all the posts on this subject.
Michael, I am responding particularly to your post, because it seems to reflect most exactly what happened to my Mac. Today, all is well, and I hope it stays that way.
In sum, my suggestion would be: don't let your computer even flirt with the sleep mode until Apple has some concrete fixes for this problem that don't require $$$ (by the way, I read one post from someone who paid almost $800 to have it fixed, and I can't remember if it was ever really fixed).

Recording of screen flickers black?

I'm trying to just record videos of me playing Starcraft 2, but whenever I start FMLE my mouse flickers not just when I open up Starcraft but when it records my desktop too, and when I try to watch the playback of the video my screen flickers black and back on. Are there any settings that I might need to change?

If showing mouse is not important, you can disable the "show mouse", "show clicks" and "track mouse" options of VH screen capture.
And what is the CPU usage while encoding? Is it too high?
You can also use other sceen capture softwares such as Uscreencapture.

Screen freezing/blacking out since update

Since the 1.0.1 update my phone is freezing sometimes. It froze a couple days ago right the middle of setting a wallpaper. I had to reboot it. Then yesterday the screen went black for about three seconds for no apparent reason. My phone was in sleep mode so I hit the home key. Then before I had a chance to unlock with the slider, my screen went black. Then a few seconds later it came back.
Never had this happen before. Anyone else having these kind of freezes or blackouts?

If the iphone starts to freeze the best thing to do is to power down the iphone.
It sounds like that is what you were trying to do.
If the freezing continues to happen, you might want to restore the iphone.
