DOS driver for XA52P (SATA DVD drive)
Hi,
Is it possible to get this drive to work with MSCDEX in DOS?
Which port address and interrupt does SATA use?

No Windows 64 bit Driver for GT30L SATA DVD Drive
I recently updated my compaq presario to Windows 8.1. I've been pleased with the change but Windows installed an incomaptible driver for my DVD drive. It installed the driver for the 32 bit OS. From what I've learned 32 bit drivers can't work in a 64 bit system. Here is a link where I discovered this:

Can I add a sata dvd drive to foxconn mcp73m01h1
Compaq sr5450f product kj383aa#aba,{Personal Information Removed}--motherboard foxconn mcp73m01h1 has receiver for four (4) sata connections. I assume thta I can use one for an added hard drive --but can I also use one for a sata dvd rw drive? The original dvd drive was pci not sata. I would think I need the data cables. Am i correct?
This question was solved.
View Solution.Hi:
That shouldn't be a problem at all.
Yes, you will also need to have an available sata power cable near where the drive will go, and a sata data cable of the appropriate length. -
Storage controller driver for 4TB SATA drive
Hi,
I am having trouble initializing a brand new 4TB SATA drive (Seagate Barracuda 3.5") . I am connecting it to my HP Envy 17 (Windows 7 64-bit) through a USB 3.0 hard drive dock for backup purposes only. Initialised it using GPT but nevertheless it refuses to show the true volume of the new HDD and the system keeps on recognizing it as a 1677.9GB drive.
I have been reading a little about this issue online and guess that only the volume above 2.2TB is detected but could not find a solution anywhere and Seagate doesn't offer one either. Have already tried to update the driver for this HDD (Microsoft driver version 6.1.7600.16385; driver date 6/21/2006) but the system tells me this driver should be up to date.
Thank you in advance for all your advice and guidance !

This question was solved.
View Solution.Hi,
Check with the manufacturer of the external USB dock and make sure that it supports 4 TB hard drives.
Otherwise open up the RUN window (Admin) and try the following:
diskpart
list disk
select disk x ----> x equals the target disk
clean
exit
Now unplug the USB drive and plug it back in. You should get a prompt to format and initialize the HD. Choose GPT and assign a drive letter and label.

Does anyone know when the Mac Pro switched from ATA to SATA DVD Drives
Does anyone know when the Mac Pro switched from ATA to SATA DVD Drives ?
I tried to find this answer online but failed.Appears the Mac Pro (Early 2008) is the last model to suggest Ultra ATA/100 optical.
And with an optional card, use Serial Attached SCSI via Mac Pro Raid.
This kind of information gets sketchy in that the hard drive bus and other parts are SATA
and only this (and earlier) model Mac Pro has optical drive interface w/ Ultra ATA/100. The
logic board on the early 2008 appears to have two Serial ATA ports, 3.0GBPS; so to check
these, you may need to look into specification in iFixit.com repair guides, any takeapart
guides, and note specifications in everymac.com and those from mactracker.ca.
The MacPro after Early 2008 model build series (Early 2009) appears to sport an optical
drive with 18x speed, compared to Early 2008 & before, whose drives indicate 16x spec.
Other changes may be indicated by certain parts and differences; processors, graphic
support, and those kinds of things. 2008 shows dual-core, afterward, quad-core.
So on what little I found, that would appear to be the divide or when optical drive spec
on the logic board changed from Ultra ATA/100 to SATA versions. But double check.
Good luck & happy computing! -
I recently purchased this MacPro. I have since added 2 SATA DVD drives to the system that originally had 2 PATA drives. The problem that I am having is that initially I can eject the disk from both drives but after 5 minutes both drives stop responding and neither will eject. Has anyone else had similar problems. I would appreciate any ideas.
Yes I did. When I unchecked it I was able to eject them. Thank you very much. I knew it was something simple that I was missing.

Install Windows 7 USB Load Drive A required CD/DVD drive device driver error
I am trying to do a fresh install on a brand new laptop. I have downloaded a couple of Windows 7 iso images. I have used DiskPart to prepare my USB device and have used the Microsoft usb iso tool to put the Win7 iso image on to the USB device. I always seem
to get stuch after I click Install it quickly comes up with a problem.... Load Driver - A required CD/DVD drive device driver is missing. If you have a driver floppy disk, CD, DVD, or USB flash drive, please insert it now... I am installing from a USB drive
so why does Windows require a CD/DVD driver? How do I get Windows 7 to install?
I have read other forums were people have put it down to a corrupt download but I have tried with a couple of different downloads and same problem everytime!
Please help!
Thanks
GavinHi,
This error message appears if the disk controller mode is incompatible during setup. And it can be caused by your CD/DVD drive may be incompatible with Microsoft’s AHCI driver. To work around this
issue, please go to BIOS and disable AHCI mode for your disk controller. You can change the AHCI mode to IDE or ATA mode instead.
It may also occur if the media is corrupted. Please visit the following link to rebuild the bootable USB stick for Windows Server 2008 R2:
Building a bootable USB stick for Windows 7/Windows Server 2008
R2
And please check the USB disk: put the USB disk in other machines and boot to see if it works.
Please make sure that the download files are not corrupted.

Not advised it will not work or fit correctly you need to have a adapter to make that fit and as the other poster said your speed will be slower. Also you can get laptop drives each that are 2tb in both bay without needing to take out the OD drive itself. Did you look into that before getting a SSD.

CD or DVD drives for a sat pro 6000
any one know if i can put a Model number SD-C2302 dvd player in to a sat pro 6000 lab top or no of any that i can put in please?
Hi Adrian,
You are mostly correct in your statement about CD/DVD drives for your notebook. However, it is important that you only buy drives with dimensions similar to your current model.
Generally CD/DVD drives come in two varieties, those destined for tower type installation and those destined for notebooks. The latter are usually designated as 'slim' or 'slimfit'.
To install the new drive you usually need to unscrew and remove any fitting brackets used to anchor your drive to your notebook together with any plastic trim components. These will then need to be attached to your new drive.
Toshiba notebooks use various drives (Toshiba, TEAC, Mat****a, etc.) so you will generally have a reasonably wide variety to choose from.
Finally, you may need to download drivers for your new drive if none are provided or if your purchase an OEM version. These can be obtained from the drive manufacturers web-site.

Installed itunes for windows- ipod+dvd drives not recognized by my computer
After installing i tunes I received a message saying that there were errors during install. Importing and export (burning) would not be possible through i tunes, I should re-install itunes. I have reinstalled i tunes.
On restarting my computer i have encountered issues with drives, I cannot find the ipod in "my computer" nor can i find my dvd drive. The drivers for the dvd drive are installed.
There is possibly confusion over the drives allocated letters ie it maybe the hardware is trying to use the same designation.
Is this a common issue with installing i tunes, I can't find any other threads on similar issues. Any suggestions on fixes greatly appreciated.ahhhhhh, many thanks for the link. for a while (about a year ago), Packard Bell UK was including those instructions on their troubleshooting pages, but then they went away. (or i just couldn't find where they'd been shifted to.)
usually nowadays i crank out the MS instructions instructions instead:
(MS) CD-ROM access is missing and messages cite error Code 31, Code 32, Code 19, Code 39, or Code 41 after you remove Easy CD Creator in Windows XP
... but it's a (slightly perverse) sort of comfort to know that i'm still recommending basically what Packard Bell recommends. -
Vista has no drivers for MacBook Pro DVD drive
When I boot into Vista, everything works well enough but I can't use the DVD drive on my MacBook Pro. Under the device manager it's listed as not having drivers and when you tell it to find them on the internet, it comes up empty handed.
Anyone know where I can find drivers for this drive? It's a Matsushita UJ-857D.I've been having the same problem. THere was a discussion with a link that no longer exists.

CS3 Installer asks for non-existent DVD drive
I'm running CS3 on Windows XP. I need to reinstall because I somehow lost codecs for Premiere Pro. Whenever I try to reinstall, the CS3 installer puts up an Installer Alert that asks me to insert CS3 Master Collection Disc 1 into drive G:\ to continue installation.
That sounds pretty simple, but there is no G: drive on my computer. My two DVD drives are D: and E:, and inserting the disc there has no effect. Checking the Windows device manager shows no G: device recognized anywhere on the computer.
I can only click OK, which returns the same alert, or Cancel to cancel the installation. I cannot, for the life of me, figure out how to get the CS3 installer to ask for installation disks on an existing drive. What's particularly annoying is that the installer is running from a DVD in drive E:, so you'd think it would know to ask for further discs in drive E:. I've tried it as well from drive D:.
Any ideas for getting the installer to stop asking for discs in a non-existent drive?
I've toyed with the idea of completely uninstalling CS3, but am afraid that the installer still won't work, in which case I won't be able to get any work done using CS3 at all.
Thanks for any and all help,

Where is driver for hl-dt-dvd-ram gh15l ata for vista 32 bit pavillion a6610?
I installed Norton security 2012 and it uninstalled the previous version as well as corrupting the driver for the DVD-Rom which now doesn't appear and needs the driver reloaded. When I go to the drivers site at HP they don't list that driver just a driver for a later version.

Solutions for Lack of DVD Drive?
I have a "vintage" G4 from 2001. I want to upgrade it to OS 10.5 (Leopard) from 10.4. The problem is it does not have a DVD drive, only a CD drive. I have access to an external Apple DVD drive that my husband got for his Air that I thought I'd be able to use. But it does nothing when I plug it into the G4. I'm guessing it's a USB 1.0 vs. 2.0 issue. The only solution I can think of is to try to get an internal DVD drive added to the G4. Are there any any solutions I may be overlooking? (At one point, you could pay extra and get the OS X upgrades on CD, but I don't know if Apple still does that.) Is there any kind of Firewire solution? (I also have a G5 desktop; could I somehow connect the G4 and G5, insert the Leopard install disk on the G5 but install it on the G4 through Firewire?)
When Tiger 10.4 was relaesed, Apple had an option to get Tiger on CDs. That's not an option with Leopard.
Your best method is to buy/install (as a minimum) a DVD/CD reader & you should consider the buy/install of a DVD/CD reader + CD writer. You can buy for less than $50. It's easy to install in a few minutes.
The other alternative is to use the Target DisK Mode. These links describe. Although they reference Tiger, Leopard would be the same.
