DOS PCMCIA support for old Compaq Armada 1571DM

Hi there,
I have recently purchased an old Compaq Armada 1571DM for a project I'm currently in, which requires both portability and the availability of a couple of COM (serial) ports. The laptop comes with a single serial port, so I thought to add the second one I need via a PCMCIA to serial card adapter. So I purchased one of these too.
The problem I faced is that the software I use to access the serial ports runs on DOS only, and as far as I could find on the internet, there seems to be no DOS driver/card enabler for this particular laptop.
I'll very much preciate your help, as I'm stuck on this issue for a long time now, and I really need to make it work.
Thank you very much.
Best regards.
PS.: under Windows 98 everything seems to work: PCMCIA sockets are detected, and PCMCIA adapter is properly recognized and installed thru its provided drivers.

  • Support for Old Vibrating Sample Magnetometers

    Hello.
I am a relative newcomer to LabView and I am trying to get some support for a few older Vibrating Sample Magnetometers (VSM) on behalf of my employer.  These machines are quite old and, although they have GPIB connectivity, I am having difficulty in being able to control them using LabView.  Although they use the IEEE-488 GPIB standard, they were built before the introduction of the Standard Commands for Programmable Instruments (SCPI), rather than the newer 488.2 standard.  As such, they work with their own proprietary commands, which are proving impossible to find.  I have a working LabView program that was written by a university student for a master's degree in physics.  However, I cannot communicate with the individual components, such as the gaussmeter, power supply, etc, using measurement and automation explorer.  They don't even respond to an "*IDN?" query without timing out, which I thought was standard.  I have tried lengthening the timeout time and tried to use drivers for similar instruments.  My question to anyone out there is, do you have the drivers or the programming manual for any of the components listed below?  The Vibrating Sample Magnetometers were built by the now defunct DMS/ADE.  The current owners of DMS/ADE can offer little support for such old equipment.  Likewise, is there something else I can try in lieu of these drivers and commands?
Devices:  1.) DMS Model 1660 VSM, 2.) DMS/ADE VSM Model 4, which includes the DMS/ADE model 32KP gaussmeter with its own GPIB port.
    Thank you for your time,
    Liam

    Hi Liam,
As per GPIB 488.2, as I already mentioned, the ibEOSchar under Ibconfig is an 8 bit value so it will take value from 0 to 255 for which 3 number width is sufficient. Measurement and Automation Explorer also works in the same way. EOS byte value under Termination Settings section of GPIB settings accepts a decimal number from 0 to 255 and it will not allow any character and also value more than 255 as its field is limited to 3 numbers and even if you enter a value more than 255, it will be automatically changes to 255.
So, As per 488.2, You cannot give both carriage return and linefeed characters together and you cannot use the same in MAX also.
Try framing your entire command with EOS as per built in LabVIEW carriage return and linefeed functions and use GPIB Write.vi to send this entire frame. It may work.
Also, I would like to see your VSM's communication manual and understand how these commands have been implemented.
Coming to IBEOS command, its easily understandable and its used to Configure the end-of-string (EOS) termination mode or character. It have low byte and high byte.
Low byte is always an 8 bit EOS character and high byte can take three forms which are A, B and C. Also High byte can have values with combination of A,B or C.
For Example, ibeos (ud, 0x140A); means, Configure the software to end reads on newline character (hex 0A) for the unit descriptor. Here high byte is a combination of A and C where as low byte is the HEX equivalent of ASCII Line feed character.

  • HP claims ASU support for old HP printer OS X 10.8.3 not recognizing

    Hello,
I am running OS X 10.8.3 on my Mac Pro and I want to use my old HP Laserjet 3100 to print-only. The following HP Support Document link claims this printer has print-only support from ASU:
    http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?objectID=c03411613
I followed all instructions to install the latest "HP Printer Drivers v.2.13 for OS X", and Add the printer via System Preferences/Print & Scan/+, yet the printer is not listed in the Printer Software list.
Is anyone aware of a solution that you would please share with me?
    Thank You!!!

Thanks you for the replies. Greg's reply helped me make progress: the generics did not work, but installing the Linux hpijs and the two additional required downloads led the driver to automatically appear as the driver to "Use" when I went to "Add" the printer.
Unfortunately, that is where the progress ended. Nothing I try to print appears in the Print Queue or prints. The printer is "Ready" and I have tried everything I can in "Printer not Working" link Eric included above.
    Any suggestions?
    Thank You!

  • End of support for old Solaris releases

I searched the web site, but I couldn't find when Sun will stop supporting older releases (i.e. Solaris 2.6).
Can anyone tell me how I can find out?

Another procedure that has worked well for me over the years.
    Go to Sun's web page.
    http://www,sun.com
In the top corner of the web page, there is a search area.
Put in keyword eosl (for "end of support life").
The search results will bring up most every topic related
to Sun's philosophies and policies on the subject. More than you'd ever choose to read.
As an example, there were more than 225 search results today.
    http://onesearch.sun.com/search/onesearch/index.jsp?qt=eosl&charset=UTF-8
Keyword eol (for "end of life") is also a valid search word,
but produces more than 1500 search results.

  • Logic Pro X offers support for old keyboards?

from Apple's website: "Control Surface Support: Korg: Kontrol49, microKontrol"  Is this really the only keyboard controllers that the new Logic Pro X is supporting? I can only find these on ebay. Any recommendations for a keyboard controller?

Remember, 'Support' doesn't actually mean that this is a complete list of controllers that will work. It's simply a selection of presets containing pre-assigned MIDI controls, a bit like you telling an electronic drumkit to play C3 when you hit the kick etc.
Most controllers have a 'Mackie Control mode' that change the assignements in the controller to ones identical to the Mackie control and thus work with the Mackie Control preset. Nealy all the rest have presets online that can be added to the list and used.

  • WebLogic 10 support for old J2EE application

    Hi,
we have an application written with Java 1.4 and EJB 2.0 (+ Hibernate 3.0, + Struts 1.3.8).
Will it work in WebLogic server as is (I suppose we would need to change descriptors?) or we will have to re-write the application in EJB 3.0?
    Thanks

I believe this should work. In fact you'll want to leave the deployment descriptors alone so they indicate the correct level of the specification that the application was developed for:

  • Why is Adobe dropping support for pre 3GS phones?!

I think it's a bad decision to drop support for pre 3GS devices. There are still many out there and if support is dropped we're forced to still use the old PFI to reach the complete audience.
It's clear that OpenGL ES 2 offers a lot more fancy stuff than OpenGL ES 1.5 does, but still, things like GPU_VECTOR or sophisticated blending are perfectly doable with OpenGL ES 1.5.
And if a clean implementation is really not possible, Adobe should at least allow to publish for old devices even if this means that not all optimization techniques can be used.
I develop iPhone apps using different technologies and AIR is attractive for me because I can target with one project a big range of different plattforms. If Adobe drops support for old phones, this advantage is heavily shortened!
What is your opinion on the this development?

Apple have dropped support for pre-3GS because to pull of the features and performance in iOS 4.3 they had to develop just for the ARM7 chip, and not for the ARM6. They probably have a good sense of the number of people that have the older devices, and think it's ok to not update the software on those devices.
The same may be true for Adobe.
I am trying to find out how to make AIR 2.6 and AIR 2.0 live together in Flash CS5. If I work it out I'll let you know.

  • OS X 10.2.8 on a Compaq Armada

    Hi,
I've got an old Compaq Armada 1560 and i wondered if i could install OS X 10.2.8 on it?
If yes, how can i do this, do i need a special app to do this,
    Thx

    Hi der reiter,
no, you cannot install MacOS X on any other computer but an Apple computer.
However, it DOES work the other way round: If you buy a new Apple computer with Intel processors you are able to install Windows or Vista on a separate partition and switch between the systems at startup. Benchmarks prove that XP runs an new Apple computers natively even a little faster than on other comparable x86 machines.

  • PCMCIA on Compaq Armada M700

    Hi
I have installed Solaris 8 x86 on my Compaq Armada M700 laptop. Everything works fine including video which I installed XFree86 for, except that Solaris does not see my PCMCIA controller.
Does anyone have any sugegstions ?
    Best Regards / Gareth

Does PCMCIA come with a Solaris driver ? I believe it needs a driver
which can recognize the pcmcia card when inserted or to talk to it.
You can look through these sites to find the hardware compatibility
list for your pcmcia card, and there are other driver related
information on these sites, which may help.

  • Can the compaq armada m300 support a 40gb hdd from a presario2000us with or without an os ???

just  would like to know if the compaq  armada notebook/laptop can support a 40Gb hdd internal from the presario 2100us laptop/notebook with or without an OS already on the hdd???

    Hi:
When I compare the specs between the two machines, even though the m300 states max drive is 12 GB, I see no reason why it won't take a 40 GB drive.
I have an old Dell C610 that came with a 10 GB 4200 RPM HDD and when the drive died, I bought a 60 GB 5400 RPM HDD, and it has performed flawlessly ever since.

  • Support for AVM ISDN PCMCIA Card in Solaris 10 ?

    Hi all,
I would like to install Solaris 10 on my Toshiba Tecra S1 notebook. Today I use an ISDN-Card (AVM FritzCard, PCMCIA) for dial-up connections under Windows XP. Are there any drivers for ISDN and/or PCMCIA-Cards in Solaris10? Does anyone have any experiences with this issue?
    Every hint would be appreciated.
    Thanks a lot.
    Kindly Regard,
    Holger

    Hello.
There only very poor support for ISDN cards in Solaris. As far as I know only the on-board ISDN card of one of the SparcStation computers is supported (this card is available as S-Bus card for other SparcStation computers).
I think there is no support for any ISDN card that can be attached to an x86 computer.
I wrote a driver for USB based ISDN modems that are based on the Winbond 6694 chip myself due to this lack of ISDN support. I tested it under Solaris 9/Sparc.
