DOS Programs Fail To Start in Full Screen

HP 4600 WorkstationWindows XP SP3 all latest driversQuadro FX 580 Display CardDOS command line starts and works fine in Full ScreenHowever when I try to start any DOS program, either from the start menu or the command line I get an error: "ntvdm.exe has encountered a problem and needs to be closed." Error SignatureAppName: ntvdm.exe v5.1.2600.5512ModName: kernel32.dll v5.1.2600.6532Offset: 00012fd3 Exception InfoCode: 0xC0000005Flags: 0x00000001Record: 0x00000000Address: 0x000000007C812FD3 My research indicates it's an access memory violation, probably by the nVidia driver. The ntvdm creates a 16-bit virtual environment for these programs.Iv'e tried everything I can think of:-HotFixes from Microsoft-BIOS settings-turn off DEP-Google searches-different driver versions-modify PIF settings-etc, etc.-tried nVidia support with no luck Has anyone got a DOS program to start in full screen? If so then at least I will know it can be done.Any suggestions, setting changes, etc?Maybe change display card to GeForce and those drivers. I know... why use a DOS program. Well because I need to,I wouldn't be going through this hassle if I didn't.  If I can'tget the DOS program to run in this computer then its onlygood as a door stop for me. Thanks

The security features of Flash Player are specifically
configured to
keep this from happening. The idea is to avoid someone being
able to trick
the end user into thinking s/he is using a fullscreen app, or
something
other than Flash. Note, for example, that unless you're
developing for AIR,
full screen mode disables keyboard input:

  • Youtube app videos always start in full screen

Is there a way to make the videos in the Youtube app start in normal mode, not in full screen?

Even when the app is in portrait mode, the video starts in full screen mode. I use the ipad in landscape mode and when I start a video I want the video to start with the related content to the right, not in full screen mode.

  • Firefox 12 keeps starting in full-screen mode.

Ever since upgrading to Firefox 12, it wants to start up in full screen mode. I dopn't mean the extreme full screen mode where even the menu bar is hidden. I mean the more "typical" full screen mode where it just gets as large as possible but has the same content. I tried forcing a new profile (by renaming. ~/.mozilla/firefox) and that fixed it. But then as soon as I brought back the bookmarks toolbar and exited, it was back to starting in full screen mode again. I wish there was something in preferences for this. I NEVER want it to start in full screen mode. This is Ubuntu 11.10.

    Thanks for your reply.
It does not maximize (I think that's the term I should have used) when starting in safe mode. But I think the reason is that it has a smaller window when it starts in safe mode. If I increase the size of the window beyond a certain point, then when I exit and restart FF, it auto-maximizes. If I delete localstore.rdf, again it comes up not auto-maximized. But again, if I make the window a little bigger, exit and restart, then it does come up auto-maximized. And if I make it smaller before exiting, it will come up properly. I really believe this is a Ubuntu/Unity problem. Unity has a very irritating tendency to maximize windows all on its own. When I upgrade to Ubuntu 12.04, I'm hoping there will be an easy way to tell it not to do this.

  • Firefox 14.0.1 Won't Start in Full Screen Mode

Firefox 14.0.1 for Mac doesn't appear to retain the full screen mode setting on shut down. It starts in "non-full screen" mode on start.
I've tried safe mode startup, set to full and shut down, but it still doesn't keep the setting.
    Help appreciated

This appears to be a bug in the new Mac full screen feature - https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=758249
So there doesn't appear to be a way to fix this at the moment other than waiting for this to get fixed in a future release.

  • MacBook Pro 3.1 fails on start up. Screen very pixelated and says to restart.

I have an older MacBook Pro 3.1 that has worked great for a long time. On start up the screen is very pixelated and cascades to a large power button that states my computer needs to be restarted (in several languages). Any ideas as to the cause?

  • Why will iTunes start in Full screen every time (with Resume unchecked)

iTunes and iCal seem to remember to open Full Screen in their own Space when clicked from the Dock - a behavior I expect when quitting a Full screen App . When I open Mail or Safari, they won't open full screen (their last state when quitting).

  • N810 map program fails on start

I flashed my N810 to the latest OS version today. I started the map program, but I got a "no memory card found" error, although File Manager showed both my internal memory card, and my 2Gb external, empty, SD card. This is better than in the past, when it used to crash with no explanation.
I googled for answers and I found suggestions to remove the "map" folder on the internal card, but when I tried to do that, the system told me it is a read-only folder.
I tried the "Contact us" link on the Nokia support website ( http://www.nokiausa.com/A4410063 ), selected the subject of inquiry as "Maps", got pointed to https://www.nokiausa.com/A4686840 , clicked on "Support, and got into a dead-end page of pre-canned answers that did not address my problem. So much for "Contact".
The GPS and maps were a big part of the reason why I bought the N810 (my first Nokia product), but they never worked. This is really disappointing. Now I am going on vacation and I was really hoping I could use the GPS and maps. Can anyone please help me?
    Thank you,

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Thank you! It worked. To summarize the long thread in the link above, here is what I did:
    1. Enabled Extras
    2. Installed rootsh, from: Application Manager... Browse Installable applications... All
    3. Open terminal, then typed:
    root
    lsof /media/mmc2
Nothing was listed as using the internal card. From that point on I followed these instructions . I did:
    umount /media/mmc2
    sfdisk /dev/mmcblk0
Then I was asked for cylinder sizes for each partition (4 partitions). So for the first one, I typed in 0,,b all on the same line (ex. /dev/mmcblk0p1:0,,b ), then for the next 3 I just hit enter and put nothing in.
I rebooted the device, went to file manager, clicked and held on "Internal Memory" and then I clicked format.
    Thanks again!

  • Failed to start up - blank screen!

Yesterday, when I turn on my mac the grey screen appeared but the wheel doesn't. So when 10 minutes passed and nothing happened I turn it off from the power button. After some minutes I tried to turn it on again but at this time nothing appeared but only a blank screen neither sound chime and the keyboard didn't correspond. I checked the keyboard to another mac and it's ok! What's going on? I have poor knowledge in hardware.

Pull the battery and test that. Pull the hard drive. See if you get the old "?" on startup. A corrupt hard drive can in some cases prevent booting even from any CD/DVD or alternal hard drive.
While in there, find the PMU would be next step.
If a system won't boot into Open Firmware (command option o f) I think you are close to sunk.

  • Mission control animates in the wrong direction when you start in full screen mode

When I am in fullscreen mode, open mission control, and swipe left to right the animation moves in the wrong direction. The correct space appears, but it animates as if I swiped right to left. All subsequent swipes work correctly until I close mission control and follow the same steps again.
    Whats going on?

Go into system prefs trackpad then uncheck scroll direction.

I am a user of DXO Optics pro.  It has a full screen option built into it.  I always run this application in full screen mode.  So to save on time I wonder if there is a way to ensure that every time I open it the application starts in full screen mode.  I have tried a number of things like quiting in full screen and other things I have seen in prior versions of OS X to no avail.
Thanks for any pointers in advance!

  • How do I set Firefox to start on login in full screen mode and permanently disable the tool bars?

I am trying to set up a touch screen windows 7 lenovo desktop for use by older users with no prior experiance of PC's. I would like Firefox to start on login and open in full screen mode, with all toolbars disabled. Is this possible? and if so how do I go about doing this?

If you close Firefox 4 while in full screen mode then the browser should start in full screen mode the next time. That setting is stored in localstore.rdf in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Firefox Profile Folder].
If you want to prevent toolbars from opening if you hover to the top then hide the full-screen-toggler with code in userChrome.css

  • Is there a way to auto-start applications in full screen, such as Safari, Mail, iTunes etc.?

I would like several applications to start in full screen, including Mail, Safari and iTunes, rather than starting them, then making them full screen. Is there a setting somewhere or a way of doing that? Thanks in advance.

I found it. In System Preferences under General "Restore windows when quitting and re-opening apps" has to be checked. However when that is checked it takes you back to all of the sites you had open when you quit the app. I would prefer it start full screen, but back at the home page. Do yours do that as well?

  • How do I start firefox in full screen?

I would like to start Firefox in LINUX environment from the command line. That is easy just type FIREFOX and hit enter or call a script for that instruction ios what I do.
The challenge is to start the browser FULL SCREEN, WITHOUT showing the cursor on the pages. - [In reality I want to add the F11 parameter in the start script as well as as "do not show the cursor (No idea to invoke it manually). This is a web app running on PC with a touch screen. Secondly I would like to refresh (Shift+F5) every hour or so without human intervention. (take into account the browsers shows full screen and here is no cursor available, so some kind of delete cash in the background or refresh complete website (like doing a Shift+F5)

  • Full screen mode not working for original user

    Hi,
Whenever I go to start a full-screen mode in iTunes, iCal, Mail, etc. the program makes the default error sound and doesn't enter full screen. This appears in the console, but I'm not sure how to diagnose it:
21/07/11 9:11:18.253 PM Mail: ___createFullScreenMessageConnection_block_invoke_1: Fullscreen message error: Connection invalid
Furthermore, apps like Mail and Safari get interface glitches, which require a restart of the program to fix.
However, the programs work fine in full screen on other user accounts, but I don't want to have to start a new one and move ~400GB of data between them. Is there any way of fixing this? I've also tried reseting permissions.

Resetting my user preferences hasn't helped either.
