Dose MS-7258 BIOS support FSB-800(400MHZ) DDR2 ?

Hi
I use MS-7258 Neo-V motherboard with the latest BIOS version 3.9 (AWARD) and 4G DDR2 FSB-800(400MHz).
The BIOS only recognizes 3G of RAM.
Sometime ago I used CPU-Z program and found out  that the operating frequency of DRAM is only 266MHZ !!!
The SPD of DRAM indicates support for 200-266-400 MHZ frequencies ,and motherboard manual specifies support for DRAM 400-533 MHZ ,
also in BIOS we can set the frequency of DRAM to one of 200-266-auto,
the question is that why when I set the BIOS to detect the frequency of DRAM automatically (auto option) ,it selects the lowest freqency to operate (instead of highest possible frequency) ?
Thanks

CPU-Z shows the real memory frequency.  DDR stands for "Double Data Rate" (two transactions per clock cycle), which means that 266 MHz effectively translates to DDR2-533.

Yes:
DDR2-400 (real frequency = 200 MHz)
DDR2-533 (real frequency = 266 MHz)

It has selected DDR2-533 (266 MHz) because that is the highest clock speed the memory controller of the VIA Chipset natively supports.

Even though you may have DDR2-800 (400 MHz) modules, that does not mean you can operate them @DDR2-800 (400 MHz) on a board that natively only supports DDR2-400 and DDR2-533 memory modules.

  • Does my board support FSB 800 Cpus?

    Hi!
    I have a MSI-845PE Max-L Mainboard (supports FSB 533Cpus).
Can it support the new FSB 800 CPUs? Will there be a BIOS-update?
I can't imagine, the Heatsink without an active fan can cool the nb @ such a high FSB!!!

None of the 845 based chip sets were originally designed to support 800mhz fsb.  Some board makers have found they can overclock certain versions of that chip set to run at 800mhz.  Even if the mobo maker sells it as a 800mhz board it is still overclocked.  The new 875 chip set is designed to run at 800 mhz and as such should prove to be more stable.  Also if you have an 845 series chip set running at 800 mhz it is already overclocked to the max so there is little or no room for additional overclocking.  The new 875 chip set should have plenty of additional room for overclocking since it is only running at spec when at 800 mhz.

  • 648Max:Can I FSB 800 too?

    648F Neo-L
    MSI Part No. MS-6585
    Supports Intel® Socket 478 for Pentium® 4 (Northwood) Processors
    Support up to 3.2GHz/FSB 800
    Supports FSB 400/533/800 MHz
My 648 Max is also........... MSI Part No. MS-6585
It is a 533 MHz board, but it can do the 800 in the BIOS.
    Does this mean I too can ran a 3.2GHz/FSB 800 ?

  • Does ASPIRE 7738G Bios support T9600 PGA478 CPU?

Hihave an Aspure 7738G with T6600  and want to swap it with FSB 1066 T9600. So Does ASPIRE 7738G Bios support T9600 PGA478 CPU? From what I can read the chipset 45 does support most 2 Core Duo  P socket chips. The T6600 is FSB 800  but the 7738G supports both FSB 800 and 1066. Can buy a new HP T9600  (spare part) and want to know will the Bios support it.

    KarstenE,
I do not see that we have tested that specific processor in this system, but I do see that we have some models that use 1066 FSB speed CPUs, for example: P7450, P8600, P8700, Q9000, T9550.

  • FSB 800???

How do you know if you have your FSB at 800 mhz?? in the bios i have the "CPU bus clock" at 200mhz.. and I think that would equal 800mhz because the new Intel chips are quad piped (i have a 3.0ghz with 800mhz fsb and HT on a MSI neo2).
Or do I need to manually up this?
In CoreCenter which monitors the stats it shows my FSB at 200mhz which i would assume is being multiplied by 4 making it 800?
this is my frist intel chip since my old 266 mhz (i used to be big on AMD) so im new to this technology and how it works..
    Thanks in advance!!

your assumptions are spot on 200 in bios is the 800 they talk about

  • ATA PCI card with 48 bit BIOS support?

    Hello,
I have an iMac G3 CRT purchased at the very end of 2001 (last of this model.) I am about to install a new hard drive. I am replacing an 80GB with a 160GB Maxtor (because they were the same price!) The drive box says that drives larger than 137GB require a Mac-compatible ATA PCI card with 48 bit BIOS support. Do I already have this? Is this part of the mother board? If not I will exchange the drive for a smaller one.
    Thanks.
iMac G3 CRT Mac OS 9.2.x

I forgot to mention something. Firewire cases can allow you to make use of a larger drive though. So you could keep your internal and put the new drive in a firewire case that supports large drives and get lots of extra space.

  • MSI 845PE MAX2 FSB 800???

I've got the MSI 845pe max2, and have been trying to find out if it's possible to get FSB 800 of this board like the MSI 845PE MAX3?

    Hi,
You're using the "Network access" service of the desktop box I guess? That gives you access to the Bluetooth LAN adapter being installed with the Widcomm software. If you want to make some connections out you have to configure Internet connection sharing on the desktop box as well - and ofcourse make sure that the two devices are correctly paired with sufficient permissions in the security config. I have been running about the same setup on a slightly older 845E Max2-BLR MB using XP with virtually zero issues...

  • TURBO2: We want TBred - B bios Support - Please MSI!

The Turbo2 is still a viable platform for the new Tbred B chips, 2400+ and 2600+. Please give us bios support!
I just wrote MSI to request support. You can too!

AMD released the new chips today, and we should expect them sometime in September on this side of the ocean. As for support for the TURBO2 ,I have faith, that if MSI feels this board will support larger than the 2200T-BRED, they will give bios support .Time will tell. Remember last time, the TURBO2 was one of the first boards to get T-BRED support. Lets all keep our fingers crossed, and if not, there are some entry level KT3 series boards in the 75-$90 range that will do quite nicely, if you don't want all the EXTRAS. Regards,BIGDADDY51 CT USA

  • Dose 845PE Max2 FIR support Solaris (Sun OS)?

    hi..
Dose 845PE Max2 FIR support Solaris 8 or 9(Sun OS)?
    please let me know it..
    thank you..

I'm still deciding whether to get the newest Solaris. I have not tried Solaris7 on mine. My guess would be that, if it installs, the onboard sound (may) not work.

  • BIOS HTT (FSB) Setting in KA790GX

I also have the problem with this board and BIOS O/C of CPU FSB reported in another thread.
When I try to increase the FSB MHz setting in BIOS 'Cell Menu' from 200MHz to anything else - e.g 201, 210, 215 it can be set OK in BIOS and saved but when booted into Windows or MemTest, it only ever shows 200MHz in CPU-ID, Windows or Memtest. However, the 'Cell Menu' in BIOS always shows the new setting although the set value does not load, it always says 200 in Windows etc and runs at 200MHz.
However, if I set the mainboard hardware OC switches to 10% (Switch 1 on, 2 off), then the resulting setting of 220MHz loads up, the system runs at that setting and is very stable.
However, I would rather fine tune the FSB & RAM settings through 'Cell Menu' than use the coarse mainboard hardware switches.
'Cell Menu' manual RAM settings work properly, if I set 5-4-3-11, then that is what CPU-ID shows the RAM running at.
I have tried all the BIOS's for this board and they are all the same so I think there may be a BIOS error for the KA 790GX system.
I have also contacted MSI directly about this through Online Customer Service.
I also have a MSI DKA 790Gx based system and on this, the BIOS CPU FSB setting does work.

I had not really being trying to achieve any massive O/C from this system, rather just getting the CPU running at it's default 2.5GHz without the RAM taking a hit.
The default CPU speed of 2.5GHz with the default CPU multiplier of x12.5 at FSB (or I suppose, correctly for the AMD based systems - HTT, regardless of what the BIOS setting says) of 200MHz results in RAM running at 714MHz with the ratio set at 1:2.
Reducing the CPU multiplier down to x12 & increasing the HTT to 210MHz then takes the CPU back up to 2.52GHz & the RAM up to 840MHz, a useful speed increase over the default settings. The HTT multiplier is also reduced down to x4 to keep the value below 1GHz.

If anything, overclocking is my strongest point.
And why do you think that?  Explain why it does?  I'll explain why it don't:
The HTT clock will calculate the memory, CPU and HyperTransport clock; having a higher or lower multiplier does not make a difference.  It works on Intel's FSB interconnect, yes, because the faster you go, the more bandwidth you get (you also increase the NB clock by decreasing the multiplier.)  Putting the HyperTransport link over 1000MHz is damaging for the board.  It cannot sustain it for long periods.
According to your theory, it should enhance the performance of these components, but I don't see how it does that?
Well Aaron i haven't spoken about the hypertransport link but only about the fsb clock called htt on new Amd processors :winked: so what you've said in your 1st phrase is my theory or sooner the well known rule by every overclocker.

  • RS480M2 BIOS with FSB adjustments soon?

I would really like to overclock my Winchester A64 on the RS480M2 motherboard. The BIOS 3.3 still doesn't have ANY adjustments for controlling FSB/RAM speeds above 200 MHz, or any multiplier adjustments.
Will MSI release a BIOS so we can overclock on it? I have two machines with this board and would not buy more if it can't overclock.

That is a load of crap.
The *FIRST* thing I did when I got this board, was email MSI directly (several times) and even fill out their web based support request form, and have heard NOTHING in over a month from any direct request to MSI.
If they dont respond here, they arent responding anywhere else either.

No one here knows what MSI will release as a Bios update or if this can even be addressed by bios. This is a user to user help forum and as such MSI personel don't come here to answer that kind of question.
I would say you are best in asking MSI directly via mail or phone. But please let us know what responce you get.

  • Setting BIOS CPU FSB clock to 333

    Hello everyone,
I recently acquired the K7N2-Delta ILSR (MS-6570) motherboard;  nVIDIA Next GF2 400 FSB DDR.   The CPU is an Athlon XP 2500 1.85 GHZ, 333 MHz.
The mainboard specs states the Socket A (Socket - 462) supports AMD Athlon XP processors @ FSB 266/333/400.  I have the jumper J11 on the board set to 'short'.
With all that said, I've tried adjusting the CPU FSB Clock Frequency to 333 in the BIOS Setup Utility yet 200 is the highest option it gives.  Does the CPU Interface have to be set to 'High Performance'?  Other adjustments necessary?
        Thanks for any feedback!

200 mhz fsb is the correct setting, DDR is just that "double data rate" so 200 x 2 = 400 mhz
